Delicious and the ice cream made me feel all the nostalgia. The property also felt like an old school ice joint. I got a vanilla soft serve in a waffle cone with rainbow sprinkles and a cup of rainbow sprinkles on the side. The on the side sprinkles was like big condiment cup which impressed me. The ice cream was so delicious. The safe as well was so nice and cheery. The place was also packed. I will say the cone I got was almost $8 (likely due to the waffle cone) which is kind of steep for soft serve ice cream but everything is expensive these days so I'm not knocking them for it. Also this ice cream was everything and then some to me so I would happily go back and pay that price again. Will definitely be frequenting this place all summer because it truly made me the happiest. read more

King Kone serves up classic soft-serve favorites straight from the window in a charming, old-school way. There's plenty of outdoor seating and a well-staffed team that keeps the line moving smoothly. You'll find a wide variety of cones--sugar, waffle, and more--along with tons of topping options if you're looking to customize your treat. Prefer a cup? They've got all sizes covered. They also offer fun extras like ice cream cakes, sandwiches, and even a brownie pizza. A nostalgic spot with something for everyone! read more

We were driving by when my kid saw the big cone logo and declared it was time for ice cream. Our response - sure why not? Score one for the cone logo! I noticed the orange and vanilla twist, which I have not seen at a lot of other places. I had that in a cone. The orange part is sort of an ice as opposed to the vanilla soft serve. The pairing works well though. There are a few tables to sit at but we sat at the back of our car. The parking lot is fairly large so there is more room there. I noticed a few hard ice cream options and some ice cream sandwiches. I may venture into those next time. Also bring cash! No cards accepted. read more

King Kone is a thinly veiled Dairy Queen clone but don't let that technicality keep you home. Enjoy all things soft serve in a cone, cup or sundae boat, or if you prefer, add some root beer and let it float. This ice cream emporium is strictly old school with a vintage patina that hasn't changed since the Beach Boys were well... Boys. A nice change of pace from a throwback shack that seems more at home in a Sno Globe. read more

This is the best ice cream in the area! I have been coming here since I was a kid and have such happy memories here. It has a happy atmosphere with lots of families and children/sports teams. I love coming in the summer and sitting on a bench outside while enjoying my delicious ice cream! Ice cream here is way better than Dairy Queen or Carvel. The orange and vanilla twist is a classic. They also have great kwivers (similar to a blizzard at DQ). At St Patricks day they have green ice cream and green sprinkles which is also so much fun! Love it here! :) read more

After two decades of coming here, I am not coming back EVER again. Purely upsetting. My 80-year-old grandfather came here following his chemotherapy appointment and asked for a kiddie-sized cone with $3 in his hand. The server refused him a kiddie cone because he is not a "kid." He was asked to get a larger size, but did not have enough money and left empty-handed. I am just so heartbroken by this lack of compassion from a local and family-owned business. I think we can do better. ): read more

I've been going here since I was a kid and unlike a lot of things from my childhood (ex.: inflatable furniture, moon shoes, sticky hands) King Kone is a nostalgic blast-from-the-past that stands the test of time. Their orange/vanilla swirl soft serve has always been my go-to treat; I have fond memories of coming to King Kone after a day at the pool and getting a small orange/vanilla in a bowl. Anyway, enough waxing nostalgic - King Kone is a great local ice cream joint with plenty of seating, a friendly atmosphere, and an extensive menu. If you aren't too crazy about soft-serve, they have hard ice cream, shakes, slushies, and other frozen treats. However, keep in mind that they are cash-only! read more

Tried a slush and soft serve ice cream here two nights in a row. The service was a bit slow and they appeared to be hard of hearing/forgetful. It seems to be staffed by young high school kids who need to clarify the order with you multiple times. Personally I felt the ice cream didn't have as much flavor as other places. The free sample size was generous. The slush/italian ice felt watered down. Overall, I don't think this place lives up to the hype. read more

Even though I live in PR I've never once been to King Kone. Mostly because I've been turned off by the crowds and the throngs of teenagers. But finally, we were coming home from dinner and were passing right by so we stopped. I had a regular vanilla cone with sprinkles for a hefty $4.75. It definitely was tasty, but probably not worth the $5 price tag. It's Carvel-ish, but not quite Carvel. Probably won't go back. But, I'm not concerned about this local establishment since they do crazy business. Also, no one who works there is over age 18 so you better not ever be looking for a manager. read more

Simply the best-Run by a great bunch of people and family! Pretty and perky girls and friendly polite guys always happy to help. Has long surpassed the Dairy Queen in Montvale as the place to get your summer ice cream fix. They open for St Pats parade and earlier and already in this early time are getting a nice crowd. Sometimes just jammed but brings you back to a different time. You have to try the orange and vanilla swirls!! But everyone loves whatever they get be it a shake or hot fudge or swirls. Maybe it's just me , but I get the feeling that they only like their kind at this spot. I drive infront of this place every day and for some reason I only see 90% of one specific race hanging around here. Now people might say well it's because the population of the city is that specific race. Yes that could be true. But I have also noticed some weird behaviors when they were serving me couple of times in the past. For some reason they seem to have only teenagers working here, which is fine . But for some strange reason, they all seem to be "deliberately incompetent" when I am trying to order something. Granted these kids haven't been to college yet, so they don't have any idea about how to be nice with people of other races, but why be "deliberately incompetent"? That's what I don't understand. I actually had a cousin of mine and his family who had to leave because of the harassment his little girl was receiving at the Pearl River elementary school. I don't want to go deep into it. But it seems like Pearl River is a predominantly white neighborhood and I get the feeling that they like to keep it that way from my experiences and what my cousin had to go through with his child. No child deserves to be treated like that. read more

The flavors were excellent, everything tasted great, and the cones were big and solid. My next visit dropped to three stars because service was painfully slow with only one employee working, and then we discovered that our cones had hollow centers. So we came back and gave them another chance. This time, service was speedy. There were three people working, everyone was friendly, and we got our orders quickly. The ice cream tasted great all around too. But... the products are still inconsistent. Two people had the ube cones, and those were solid. Three other people received hollow centers in their cones and cup. It's just disappointing. Everything was also extra soft this time. The ice cream was much meltier than what we've experienced here before. Not bad tasting, just noticeably different. So yes, this visit was better. Much better service and great flavor, but we still didn't walk away feeling the same way we did after that first five star visit. At $9 per cone, I think they need to deliver a more consistent product. The flavors are good and there's clearly something worth coming back for, but when the experience can vary this much from visit to visit, it's hard to justify that price.

When I visited, it was pretty quiet, and the staff appeared to be local high school students who were friendly and kept things moving smoothly. I tried the peach ice cream. It was good, though it didn't particularly stand out compared to some other peach ice creams I've had. Still, it satisfied the craving and was enjoyable enough. One thing I liked was that the setup feels well suited for groups. With a variety of frozen treats and a laid-back atmosphere, it's the kind of place where everyone can find something they enjoy. Overall, a solid neighborhood ice cream shop that's worth keeping in mind when you're in the mood for a sweet treat.

There's no aftertaste to their ice cream like a lot of the other ice cream places in the county. Service is good, but sometimes the portions can be a little inconsistent, but that also usually depends on who's serving. It doesn't happen often though. The place is a little small inside, but they have chairs and tables to enjoy your treat outside. It may not be all perfect, but I will take their ice cream over anyone else's.

Van Dyk's Ice Cream

Van Dyk's is one of those classic summer traditions for my family. We usually make a few trips here…read moreevery summer, and it's easy to see why people keep coming back. Their homemade ice cream is delicious, and they offer a huge variety of flavors. We stopped by on a Friday afternoon and lucked out--it wasn't crowded yet. If you've ever been here during peak summer hours, you know that's a rarity. This place is a local favorite, and long lines are pretty common later in the day. I was really hoping to get my favorite, Bailey's Cream, but they were sold out. That's one thing to keep in mind: while they have a ton of flavors, they aren't always all available. I ended up ordering the Black Raspberry Chip with free rainbow sprinkles (my go-to), and it definitely hit the spot. Someone in our group got a milkshake and absolutely loved it, while another ordered the Cappuccino Oreo and enjoyed it as well. Portion sizes: A single scoop (their small) is surprisingly large. With prices having increased over the years, I'd love to see a smaller, more affordable option for those times when I just want a little ice cream. I also wish they'd let you choose two flavors in a small cup instead of requiring a double scoop (medium) if you want to mix flavors. A few things to know before you go: Van Dyk's is cash only, although they do have an ATM inside if you need it. The shop itself is very small, with no indoor seating or restrooms. There are only a few places to sit outside, so most people end up standing around or grabbing a spot on the small wall. Parking can also be a bit of a headache. The lot gets hectic, especially when they're busy, and better signage would definitely help. We've found it's often easier to park on a nearby side street and walk over. Even when the line is long, the staff does a great job keeping things moving. One employee usually takes care of an entire group from start to finish, which helps keep the ordering process efficient. Everyone we've interacted with has always been friendly and helpful. Even with the cash-only policy, limited seating, and hectic parking, Van Dyk's is still one of our family's favorite summer traditions. The homemade ice cream keeps us coming back year after year, and hopefully next time they'll have my favorite ice cream, Bailey's Cream, in stock.
