A lot of towns we drove by we kept seeing the DQ sign but kept passing through. Today was the day that we stopped in Marfa, Texas. I got the medium sized green dipped cone that was advertised on their window and a Barqs root beer. Doc got a different drink from her first choice as the machine was not working at the moment . The lady told her which drink was available instead. Little things make me happy. After I ate the green mint shell off my cone I got my straw and sliced off most of the ice cream into my cup- tadah.., root beer float. Doesn't take much to delight me... once in a while. read more

Had a good burger several years ago here so I returned. Ordered a Beltbuster Combo at drive thru for $9.99. At the window they charged me $10.89 plus tax, $11.76. When I asked about the difference they just wanted to argue about how much the burger cost alone is. I mentioned the price on the menu and they angrily shut down. I have never been to a Dairy Queen but always wanted to go. When recently staying is Marfa my partner and I decided to go. It was awesome. The restaurant itself was impeccably clean. The staff were the kindest people EVER. The fries and vanilla cones were iconic. read more

Not gonna lie, this is not the best dairy queen we've ever visited. And while I don't frequent the establishment in my day-to-day life, when we are out and about on a road trip, traveling cross country, we tend to eat more ice cream. I'm not sure what psychological function that is, or what subconscious needs it fulfills, but suffice to say when I'm putting 700 miles on the old odometer in a day's driving, I tend to consume more blizzards. After a strange and existential experience at the Prada Marfa art exhibit up the road, we stopped here in town for ice cream, and a quick trip into the supermarket across the street. I found a nice long stretch of curb on the side of the highway that fit my truck and trailer, the wife and kids ran across the street to DQ, and I ran into a little market. After shopping for some camping essentials to be used at Big Bend, I came back out to the truck, loaded the cooler, and realized that my family was still inside the DQ. I walked over, and they were sort of just waiting around, unsure of what exactly was happening behind the counter. Nice to have kids at seemed, but also a little rudderless back there. No matter, we were not in much of a hurry, but it reached a point of comedy after a while, and it seemed we were not the only ones waiting around for our orders. Once we finally got our treats, it was quickly clear that nobody hurt themselves back there scooping anything extra into the cups. On the contrary, it was pretty skimpy. I've never really understood why that is, but maybe it has something to do with the fact that most of the people who order things here are probably just passing through like we were. Which is to say, this might've been a once in a lifetime road trip for our family, but it was definitely a once in a lifetime visit to this DQ. Meaning we're probably not gonna do that again On our next trip to the national park. read more

Most of the town seemed to be headed to a special event, so maybe the employees resented being on the schedule that night; the service was just the bare minimum. This Dairy Queen has shown much improvement compared to the business with the other past managers! The service is quicker, staff is friendlier, and the store is much cleaner than it was before. I highly recommend coming to this restaurant and eating here. It's Family Friendly and it's much more enjoyable. These silly goobers took 40 minutes to give us our food. They handed me my salad open and the second person to order was served ten minutes after everyone else had finished. The food was good. Hot, fresh and delicious. The service was okay. Not to many other choices in town.

I started my career in fast food and whether or not you like your job, it says a lot about the person who works hard at a entry-level job, how that person would do at a more challenging career. That being said, the employees I encountered during my visit, didn't seem to have what it takes to do a simple job. They avoided customers, walked slowly from area to area, despite there being a rush, and overall just disregarded their job duties. I would advise the management to better incentivize the employees, maybe cross-train them and staff less knuckle-draggers and more hard workers who care to see a job get done pro-actively. I would also suggest to management that you are partly responsible for not providing training and oversight to your team to keep them performing at your job and preparing them for future careers. That's what good leaders do! read more

There are DQ's and there are Dairy Queens. The DQ's in west Texas are Dairy Queens. The portions are bigger, the service better, the tables and floors are cleaner, and the grub is first-rate. Face it; when families stop in for lunch after church, something is 'Right'! The burgers are reminiscent of those thick, juicy ground beef slabs that my grandma prepped in her kitchen, perfectly done, yet moist & juicy. The condiments are placed on the burger, not tossed on as an afterthought. They consistently renew the lost art of frying french fries, getting the outer layer of every fry 'just right', yet retaining the flavor of golden goodness. This location in Marfa is perfect for a stop before heading to the end of the pavement and progressing down Pinto Canyon Road, or after emerging from the same after a stay at Chinati Hot Springs. read more

Its just a Dairy Queen but I'm giving it high marks for being the only genuine west Texas restaurant in Marfa. Prior to landing here, my siblings and I had spent the previous hour wandering the streets looking for a "proper" restaurant. What we found were places that were closed for no apparent reason despite displayed hours claiming otherwise; places with insanely long waits (2+ hrs); places with insane prices; and nearly all these hot spots filled to capacity with pompous posers and Andy Warhol wannabes who side-eye and turn their noses up at normal people like they're garbage. I've been all over this country and I can't think of another town that put me off and pissed me off as quickly as this little town of Marfa. People use a lot of words to describe "artists". "Friendly" is rarely used. Now I know why. Luckily, Dairy Queen was there to make Marfa real. As we pulled up, some high school kids sitting in a window booth near where we parked smiled and waved at us. No reason other than being nice. At this point in the evening that actually meant a lot to me. Ordering was easy, food was fast, cheap, and on par for the price. Customer service wasn't exactly cheerful, but rather typical fast-food worker-bee disposition. Detached efficiency might be a good description. I was fine with it. The place was clean...ish. I decided to try this Dairy Queen and the service was horrible when we were ordering you can tell the workers don't want to be there, the cashier Angelica Silvia was very rude towards my family for absolutely no reason we asked a couple questions about the combos and she instantly gave us a bad look and talked to us like we were dumb. I see no reason for someone to be acting like that. The only worker that was actually working hard and was nice was a younger lady who was cleaning each chair by hand. I'm giving this location 5 stars to balance out the negative reviews. I was reading things like "this is Marfa! I expect better" and yeah, Marfa is an art town, but at the end of the day you're going to a fast food restaurant in the sticks. They're gonna be out of stuff and the people working the counter are going to be bored at best. I went here once and the experience was alright. I ordered a hot fudge Sunday and they were out of hot fudge so we compromised with chocolate syrup. The cashier was nice and the food tasted as good as any other Dairy Queen I've been to. Next time I'm in Marfa, I'm sure I'll be back because it will be the only place open on a Monday after 4pm. read more

Traveled to Marfa to stay @ El Cosmico and ended up stopping by here for a late dinner. You're better off eating one of the dead animals you see on the side of the road rather than eating this junk. I'm laughing remembering how terrible this Dairy Queen was. My cousins insisted on giving this place a chance and nothing else was open yet in Marfa... Not like there's much to choose from. Anyways, the burger patties were burnt to a crisp and dry, the buns lookef like they'd been punched, and the toppings were as sparse as the landscape of east Texas. Even though there was hardly anyone in the restaurant, the one cook and two girls moved at the pace of snails. Orders were left sitting on the counter to become cold. The cook, a young gentleman, went to take a smoke and pick-his-nose-and-eat-it-break in his truck. I'm not even kidding. Two of us witnessed it. So listen. Just don't eat here. Ever. Not even with a gun held to your head. You will sorely regret wasting your money and time! This happened in December and there are even more recent bad reviews of this place. This place is garbage. I don't even know where to begin. The customer service is non existent. The employees are always rude and act annoyed when taking your order. There's always something broken and they're always out of something. All in the same week their card machine has been broken and they're only accepting cash. Their soda machines were broken. The ice machine was broken. There was even one day they were out of ice cream. Ordering anything at the drive thru is a nightmare. You're going to be stuck in line at least ten minutes minimum. And at night they like to turn the sign off early to make it seem like they're already closed when it's not even closing time yet. They recently remodeled the building but it doesn't matter. This Dairy Queen has had a major and I mean MAJOR overhaul and it is now probably one of the best if not THE best DQ's in Presidio county. My uncle has been working Border Patrol in Marfa for 22 years so I come and visit often (in the old days from San Jose, now from NYC) I was blown away from the new design, the clean and tidy look and the attention to detail. An Oreo Blizzard will always just be an Oreo Blizzard but to be able to enjoy one in such nice surroundings is a real treat. This restaurant is a hub for meals after school games, family functions and holidays so it's a nice place now that the people of Marfa can enjoy. read more

Seriously I cringe to write a less than good review about Dairy Queen. I have grown up loving this chain. I find it rarely disappoints. However, my visit to the DQ in Marfa left a lot to be desired. When I walked in, I was happy to see clean floors and a wide open area to wait until you were ready to order. I was excited to get to eat my favorite---Steak Finger Basket. I have always loved them. But my luck turned bad when they said that they were out of steak fingers. How the heck can they be out of steak fingers?!?! So I settled on the Chicken Tenders. They were good and the fries were good, hence the 2 stars rather than one. But the service was deplorable. The workers seemed un-interested in something called customer service. Maybe they were nearing the end of their shift but either way, i found that they moved at the pace of a sloth. I'm not trying to be hard on them. I can't imagine how taxing it would be to put those kind of hours in at that type of job, but at the same time, how hard is it to smile or at least look pleasant while taking someone's order. Ok, it started out rough. I couldn't tell if they were open or not. When I drove up to the menu in the drive-thru no one said hello. Then when I went through again, the intercom was messing up so bad, I thought I was being pranked. BUT inside was a different story. The two ladies in the front were nice. One was taking the orders & the other was mopping and cleaning the tables. Ordered my food, everything came out right, and it was good! In fact, it was the best food I had in Marfa during my stay. I ran into someone who was also staying at my campground. The cold weather & one of the only places open at 8PM on a Sunday brought me & different groups of travelers together for a satisfying meal. My friends and I walked in for some ice cream the afternoon of 10/24/20 and not only did we watch 3 employees walk by while we waited to order at the counter but then my ice cream cone sat on the counter a good 5 minutes (slowly melting) while the employee went to the freezer or store room twice. Instead of being served, we went to the counter ourselves because of the melting ice cream. To top it off, we noticed the male employee behind the counter continually lowering his mask and then wearing it below his nose. We asked that he wear it properly, which he did-for a while. As we left, I went to him at the counter and said as a food server he is required to wear a mask correctly. He half heartedly apologized but then as we were leaving, he mimicked my voice and what I said as I walked out the door. We will not be back-if this is what one employee gets away with, I can only assume little of this pandemic or customer service in general is being taken seriously by the location owner. read more
