I'm not saying this is the worst restaurant in Van Horn, TX, but they better hope the worst one doesn't go out of business. There's is a sign out front saying they pay $15 an hour. But when my wife went to wash her hands, there was no soap in the dispenser and the bathroom was a disaster. The men's was actually decent. I ordered a Double Big Mac that looked like it was from IKEA. I had to completely reassemble it because it looked like the staff had a competition to see how far from the actual bun they could put the ingredients, while still shoving it into the carton. Food came out lightning quick and the service was amazing. It was also very clean with serviceable ambiance.

I purchased 4 meals and only received one ranch and one buffalo sauce. When I requested ranch for the other two meals that require ranch,the cashier said she would have to charge me for EXTRA ranch! How is it extra if you gave me one package for 3 meals! Always happens at this location. read more

My Texas trip has come to an end as I start heading back home to California. So here on out will be gas stations and fast foods which is all good... it's all part of the traveling journey LOL. Thought I give McDonald's in TX another chance to redeem themselves. Unfortunately, no redemption was made. My Filet O Fish was very dry and the cheese did not melt at all... and if I recall, I think I got half a slice of cheese LOL (check out the pics... you be the judge of it and let me know)... at least the bread wasn't burnt. I don't know what it is... how can one go wrong with the Filet O Fish... there are only 4 main parts to the sandwich... fish filet, cheese, tartar sauce & bread. Now of course, I did ask for no tartar sauce... maybe that threw them off... don't know LOL. Anyway, I also got a 10 piece chicken nuggets. I noticed there were a couple nuggets that were stuck together... I separated them and did not like what I saw... I didn't have a good feeling about it so I threw both nuggets away... I don't like to waste food, but I had to go with my gut feeling. I also asked for a cup of water... they were going to charge me $0.25 for the cup and I was like, really... I've never been charged for water at McDonald's. I mean $0.25 isn't going to break my bank, but still. Anyway, my charm must have worked LOL because the gentleman who took my order at the drive-thru said he'll give me the water free of charge AND I got a large water... thank you sir! You just saved McDonald's from getting a 1 star... +1 star for your good service! Alright, this will be my last stop at a McDonald's in Texas. They just don't know how to make the Filet O Fish the way it should be made. Sorry, but no cigar in my book! While the outside was nice and the Service was nice as well as accurate. The place itself was sooooo dirty. There were dead flies lining the windows. Flies all around the soda machine. The bathrooms were disgusting the women's bathroom had trash cans over flowing with discarded feminine products. I heard the men's room was no better. read more

After seeing billboards touting Hatch green chile burritos, we had to make a stop and try them out on our long drive from Deming, NM to Dallas, TX. This McDonald's has mostly eliminated the cashier position and instead relies on touch screen kiosks which customers can use to place their food and drink orders. No need for a cashier (unless you're paying with cash). There is an employee to assist with ordering and cashiering if necessary, but it is otherwise a DIY operation. We quickly decided the kiosk was not for us, but being app users we tried online ordering for the first time and it was quick and easy. We selected counter pickup and our food was ready very quickly. The Hatch green chile burrito was very tasty and full of good flavor. Hash browns were hot and delicious. Wife had a Happy Meal which came with a throwback toy from 1995 or so. We did not get the salsa we ordered but a quick trip to the counter resolved that (just glad we weren't miles down the road without it). Bathrooms were really clean as was the inside of the store. Definitely a worthy stop if you are traveling through town on your way to Dallas or San Antonio. read more

I was skeptical of this Mc Donald's because of the 2.5 stars. But wow this McDonald's deserves 5. The manager i didn't get her name, she was a Hispanic girl, and she was so nice. They were still serving breakfast and had lunch ready within 3 minutes. Very nice service, and very clean restrooms. Definitely would be back when driving through. read more

Worst McDonalds fries ever, taste stale and unsalted like they pulled them out of last nights's trash. Should have gone to boots n scoops.

After reading the reviews, we almost went on, but with the distance until our next possible stop decided to give it a try anyway. First, cleanliness - it appeared pretty well kept and clean to me. (You don t know me - but need to believe I am very picky about a restaurants cleanliness- very!!) Parking was good for big rigs and RVs - albeit a bit bumpy (drive slowly). Employees were pleasant enough, said all their please and thank yous at the right times. None asked me over for dinner or to play cards - but, as an employee at a fast food chain they fulfilled their obligatory politeness to customers. We order our breakfast- it was served fast and hot. Double quarter pounder w/ cheese was cooked great, and constructed well (sometimes they're sloppily made and already falling apart). Mcchicken was also pretty good, only downside was too much mayo. Fries were just ok. Drive through was quick. There's my very dry but honest review, I feel like a lot of the reviews are pretty horrible and the place deserved some justice. On 11-22-19 purchased fish filet, fries, and premium roasted coffee. After getting home diarrhea settled in. Had nothing else any other food or drink. Last week, as passing through van horn, did purchase 2 small cheese burgers, fries, and again premium roasted coffee. Again, after getting home again diarrhea. Coincidence??? Great place for coffee when driving to El Paso, Tx! Didn't have coffee brewed, but they offered to make a fresh pot! Had to wait a couple minutes, but completely worth it for fresh coffee. read more

In a town with so few restaurant options, McDonald's is a decent default choice because you can hopefully depend on franchise standards for the food. Beware, their menu is more limited than a regular McDonald's, but what I ordered was the same dependable burger you get at any of the chain locations. read more

Typical McDonalds. Nothing special. There is only 3 fast food restaurants to eat at in the area. Burgers we super soft like the meat wasn't cooked. I took one bite and I was done. I went the next day to get breakfast, you can't screw up bacon and egg sandwich and they didn't. It was the only choice I had that early in in the morning and I needed breakfast. Go to the Wendy's down the street. Ordered a chicken sandwich with no pickle. Sandwich came with nothing on it at all. $5.00 for a piece of chicken on a soggy hamburger bun. Recently stopped at this McDonalds location on our way from San Antonio to Santa Fe. The restaurant was very clean, staff was nice and service was good. On my way out I saw the manager scrubbing the exterior walls of the restaurant, which made me reflect on how clean the interior was. Rolled into Van Horn during a long road trip. Before checking in to our hotel, we stopped at another fast food restaurant that is supposedly "Open 24 hours". It had its doors locked with customers inside. Since we were deliriously tired and hungry, we sought out another option. There in the sky were the golden arches to the rescue. I was afraid they were closed but the lights were on. I sent my son in to buy some dinner for us. The girl who greeted him was not very friend, nor happy to see him. Could you blame her? It was just after 10:30pm and they were supposed to be closed. I watched as 2 other customers came in after a few minutes. My son said the girl told the manager that someone needed to lock the door. That is when the golden arches and drive-thru went dark. But lucky for us, we received our food and went to the hotel to partake of our yummy food. Bonus, the fries were fresh out of the fryer so they were still delicious by the time we checked-in to the hotel and sat down to eat. I would definitely stop here again. read more
