I like the IDEA of the place and when I was a kid I went to places JUST like this. Visiting now I get to relive those memories. Only now I'm pickier about the quality of food I eat. I had a crab cake sandwich...it was tasty but WAY to oily. I'm guessing it was deep fried and not drained well. Order of fries for the price was not very generous. It might have LOOKED more generous if they'd put them in a small container. However the container used was bigger than the order so it looked empty...or that someone had snacked on it before it made it to the pick up window. ;) A fun outing if you are looking for soft serve ice cream but I'd keep it to ice cream. So I love dairy joy for ice cream my favorite place but unfortunately that is where it ends. We decide to have fried clams tonight and figured it would be nice to go to dairy joy where we can sit in our truck and eat and then have desert. Well we were very very disappointed we waited 40 minutes or more for them to call out number. I was standing in front of the window waiting for our number several orders came out not ours so I ask the kid in the window where my order is he completely ignored me so I went to the order window to ask the girl who time our order. The guys said I called your number several times I said no way I been standing here wait you even looked at me several times. Went at 12:30 on a Tuesday for a quick lunchtime treat. I had a frappe. It was good. My one friend had a chicken salad sandwich and enjoyed it. My other friend had the berry vanilla twist soft serve and enjoyed that. The whole thing cost me $18 bucks. Cash only. Overall, for a lunchtime treat we had a nice time. If, by some unfortunate circumstance, you find yourself at the TGI Fridays in Times Square, NY you'll notice that the menu is unlike all other TGI Fridays menus in the world, in that the prices are literally the standard ones multiplied by 2. That's the same experience you'll have at Dairy Joy. Remember that it's in Weston, one of the wealthiest towns in Massachusetts, and they clearly cater to folks who have no concept of money. On the face of it, it's a perfectly pleasant "eat in the rough" joint, with the usual fried seafood, burgers, hot dogs, "call your number" slips, sticky picnic tables, and pleasant outdoor views. But once money gets involved, you'll start to feel used and abused. First off, they don't accept credit cards, so you'll need to use their $3 fee ATM for the right to overpay for everything. I wanted a quick meal will my 2 small kids and got a plain hamburger, 2 hot dogs, a *tiny* soda, and a small fries, and it came to over $18. Mind you, the hot dogs were absolutely unremarkable, save for maybe the buttered and toasted bun. That was $3.65. The burger was clearly made of high quality meat (nice), but was barely 1/4 lb. and cost over $4 (for meat and a bun, not toppings). Want lettuce and tomato? Another $1.65. Cheese? Well, their "Super burger", which I guess is roughly like a Whopper Jr., is about 8 bucks. I thought about getting onion rings. A small order? $6.00 I'll pass. Don't plan to get the fried seafood if you already have a second mortgage. On the upside, they make their own soft serve flavors, which are very good (but will set you back about $3.00 for a small cone). Again, the burgers are high quality. I didn't try the seafood. I saw the $17.00 lobster roll - it looked good, but was hot-dog bun sized. I've gone to places like this since my childhood, and really want to support the concept, but at these prices - forget about it. We went here because my parents had nostalgic memories of going there when they first starting dating. Ahem....CLEARLY not the place they remembered from years ago...in a bad way. What an interesting and novel concept for combining two seemingly unlikely flavors..... FAIL, I mean sure it's "different," but nothing special in the slightest. Their soft serve sucks, point blank. They have a slew of astronomically over priced food offerings. A large order of clams goes for a cool $44 bucks!?!? What?!. Maybe people from Weston aren't aware of food costs and probably don't give a hoot what they spend. I just simply don't get it. A complete and utter waste of money when you can go somewhere else and get better food and "real" ice cream for half the cost. Bottom line: way too expensive for what you get. Quality seems to have eroded, too. Went to Dairy Joy for dinner and ice cream and ordered veggie burgers (for hubs and me) and a grilled cheese for the little one to keep costs a bit under control. Yes, we know it's an expensive joint. But hey, the food is great, right? Spoiler alert: not so much anymore. And their prices aren't totally obscene, right? Nope. Having grown up in Weston many moons ago, I'm a little biased about Dairy Joy aka; Cedar Hill. I'll start by saying their onion rings are the best I've ever had, I've tried to make some at home just like theirs but failed to capture the secret batter correctly. They offer burgers and dogs and fried fish and soft serve ice cream and are probably best known for the rings and fried clams.....BUT! Their prices are insanely high. They are pretty much in the middle of no where and well off the beaten path so what's up with those prices... I guess it's good to be the king eh? Dairy Joy is overpriced, uninteresting soft serve ice cream. I've been wanting to try Dairy Joy for months, and was super excited to take a ride over last night. Perhaps I built it up in my head too much, but boy was Dairy Joy a letdown. I ordered a small creamsicle cone, which is a twist of orange sherbet and vanilla. My husband ordered a medium java berry cone. Neither flavor combo impressed me. The ice cream is not creamy. It's reminiscent of a McDonald's ice cream cone (which is ice milk) but way more expensive and not as flavorful. I experienced no joy checking this place out for the first time today. The prices are disgusting. Bacon cheddar burger with fries is over fourteen dollars and that doesn't even include a soda. The fries reminded me of college dining hall fries they were just about to throw out at the end of the night but because you were starving you would eat anything that was edible. The burger had a gourmet bun which does not make sense for a place like this. They nickel and dime you for adding toppings. I really wanted to like Dairy Joy, as the concept is great....A little roadside shack in the middle of a very affluent residential town with no other food options. I've been there at least six times, and it's just OK. The food & ice cream is waaaaaay overpriced, but I guess it works since they're located in Weston. Now I don't mind high prices if you get what you pay for. I'm a sucker for fried seafood, and I always order the Fisherman's platter. The half-plate is something like $23, and the scallops are tiny, the clams are strips, and it's really overgreasy. I can only eat about 1/3 of it before I get that, "too much grease" feeling. It's always jam-packed with huge lines when the weather turns nice. It's nice to go there for the nostalgic sentiment, but be prepared to be underwhelmed with the food quality and pay huge prices. read more

I took my son for dinner and some ice cream. As always, the ice cream was great (Five stars). The food left a lot to be desired. His fish sticks were average, but the serving size was small and pricy. I picked the burger meal and besides being disappointed in the actual burger, which tasted like a cheap frozen patty, I was charged $1.50 for basic toppings (lettuce, onion, & tomato). Just build the $0.10 cost of the toppings into the price of the meal or better yet serve a quality product and include basic toppings. I was really disappointed with my visit to Dairy Joy. We live out in Worcester and had driven out to Tewksbury for the day and on my way home I figured I would stop at Dairy Joy since I had heard the good news online that they have dairy-free ice cream. Before we drove out of our way to get there I called the phone number listed on google and it seemed to be a dud, but we kept on our way, when we arrived it was very busy and we waited in line for what was really an inappropriate amount of time. I asked what dairy free flavors they had today and was informed that they were cleaning the machine, so the answer was none. There were no signs up, no menu items crossed off and no one to answer the phones and relay this information before we drove out of the way. I can not begin to express my disappointment, can't say I'll even be back to give one of the very few dairy free ice cream options in the entire state a chance. Also a word of advice to the business owners: you don't clean the machinery mid-shift, before and after the day starts, NOT while you are attending to paying customers. read more

They do a good job social distancing with tape on the ground but you still need to use cash...Not very clean when you have to and the person handing you your ice cream have to touch the cash. By the way there are NO CONES! I order three ice cream comes and was handed cups. There should be a sign to let you know they don't have cones. Plus the server should have told me when I ordered and paid before being handed the cup! That's bad business and not fair to do to customers. Dairy Joy is no joy at all. We stopped her after walking the dog, so we could try a new ice cream place. After a long day and a long walk we were looking forward to a frozen treat and from what I saw, there are none to be had at Dairy Joy. The parking lot was packed, but the line moved quickly. I ordered a medium orange and vanilla swirl cone and my boyfriend got the infamous javaberry swirl. His came out first and looked promising...albeit a bit pale since it was a faint pink and brown swirl. Watching as they made my cone it took three tries and the guy kept dumping the previous attempts to the side. I should have taken this as a warning. After the third try I was presented with what looked like a cowpattie precariously place on top of Styrofoam cone. The guy handing me the cone said this is the best he could do since it was so soft and that it wasn't really quite a medium size. I paid for it thinking it would sill taste good, but as I walked away and took that first lick.....YUCK! It has the consistency of cool whip and tasted like dirty lemonade. I stood there letting it melt even more and fed some to the dog before trashing the whole thing. The javaberry cone wasn't much better. While the texture was firmer, there was no flavor to the soft serve and I couldn't tell what I was eating. For starters I grew up on this place. When I was younger I thought it was really cool to wait to hear your number to be called out your car window, then bring it back to the car and eat it. But now that I am older (did I say that..older...ouch) not so much I rather bring it back to the benches and eat it there. Now, that I have kids of my own and went to my folks house in Waltham for a visit we decided to go have lunch one day here. Well it was surely like I remebered the crazy parking lot - trying to find a place to park, getting out of the car and going to the window and stand in line to give the order, gave the order get a ticket, then the price of the meal...OMG the prices...a bit high...then the waiting for the person to scream out the number out the window... Got to admit the burger is good but the prices does gets you a bit...then as for the ice cream..what can you really say about soft serve...it just plain ole soft serve.... Well, we have been coming to Dairy Joy for many years when I visit my daughter living nearby. We live in Southern CA and they don't have whole fried clams there. We love Legal's Seafood but really love the fired clams at DJ. Why not a five star recommendation? Well, if you read most of the other Yelp reviews you can see why. The large order of clams was $42.95! Each year they have increased the prices. The Lobster roll was good but when asked if I wanted lettuce on it the young kid failed to mention that that would be 50 cents more! And the Lobster roll was $22.95!! One would think that would not be an extra charge item. Small fries at $3.90, small onion rings at $6.00, and Lemonade at $3.50. All the prices are high. They do not accept anything but cash and we all know the reason for that! The ATM machine is close to the pickup counter and I'm sure that DJ gets some benefit from that being there too! One person in our group used that ATM to get cash to purchase our soft ice cream cones for desert and the fee for him was $6.00 to do so. They should have more shade by spending some money on umbrellas and coming out once in a while to clean off the greasy tables. We did two trips there this time but will re-think coming back in the future. The first meal this trip was close to $200 bucks and today's total was $92.23. BTW, the young dude at the order counter told me the total was $92.25 and so I gave him a quarter from my pocket and a hundred dollar bill. He gave me back 8 dollars. But he did not give me a receipt until halfway through our lunch we decided to ask for one. Why would he round up the 92.23 to 92.25?? I can see them forgetting the 23 cents but rounding up was pathetic. I don't see any responses to the bad reviews so I guess that they just don't give a xhit! This place gets points for being in a great location. Dang, it gets crowded at lunch time, and after work. And, on the weekends. And, after school gets out. So, basically, there's always a line. I don't get lunch here, mostly because its expensive. Maybe because of the location (there's not much else around), and maybe because it's in Weston, and Lord knows they can afford it. $37 dollars for a clam plate at a take-out joint? Good God. $8.50 for a small hamburger, small fries, and a small drink. Just basic food. Think Friendly's kid menu portions. Truly. But, I love soft serve, and when the mood strikes, I'll wait in the long line to score some of that. read more

Dairy joy is a really nice ice cream stand/ sandwich shop, the ice cream is amazing been going there since I could barely walk. The food depends with what you get the seafood is really really good(fried clam roll, lobster roll) the only thing I'm disappointed in is the burger, it seems like they choose a generic store bought patty and charge 10-15 dollars for them which I think is over priced if they decided to make they're own patty with some basic seasoning I would have no problem paying that price. Dairy Joy is a little slice of heaven nestled in the affluent town of Weston, MA. I grew up in the area and have been going there off and on for my entire life. So if Yelp existed in 1981, I would have written this review then. DJ is a relaxed burger/clam/ice cream stand on route 117 where you can have anything from a burger to a lobster roll to soft serve ice cream dipped in chocolate that hardens to form a shell. This place is a great escape from the city. The best scenario is to go out there on a hot, sunny Saturday afternoon in the summer with a huge appetite. Order a burger and fries and bask in the sun. Then, go up and order some soft serve. My personal fave is the marble "mahhble" twist, which is vanilla and chocolate soft serve swirled together - (in best Homer Simpson voice) "oooooooh, choooooo-cooooo-llllaaaaaate". The food is not the best you will ever have, but everything is really good from the food to the ice cream. Holy crap, my head buzzes after leaving this place, and pleasantly stuffed, too. Tip: you will not be the only one with the idea to go here on a beautiful day, and the lines can get kinda long, so either go for an early lunch or go late afternoon. The only downside is that it is an outdoor place, so it is closed from roughly October-March (obvi). read more

Located conveniently on 117 so when I was trying to avoid some massive tractor trailer crash on 128 when coming home from Waltham this afternoon I stopped in. So I've heard a lot of really high praise for this place and was intrigued to try it even though I'm not the biggest fan of soft serve. I have to say I didn't think it was anything special. First, off the prices were pretty high and the quality was good, but not exceptional. I will agree that they have more flavors of soft serve than I have seen before which was intriguing. I ended up going for the traditional chocolate-vanilla swirl which they call marble for some reason. I also had it dipped in the chocolate as I was feeling extra gluttonous. It was good, but to be honest I couldn't much tell the difference between it and something from DQ. Their soft serve is the best around (JavaBerry & Creamsicle), and they're one of the only places that i know of where you can get a raspberry lime rickey (if you know of others... don't be shy).
