The waitress turned down the music but the fan noise from the vent hood in the kitchen is extremely loud. They would be wise to spend some money to fix that.

Finally got to try dine-in and confirmed, I had to roll myself home lol. Should've read my previous…read morereview to warn myself. Luckily, I was smart enough to wear stretchy pants. We went for a weekday lunch and they have beef ribs on special every Wednesday. I originally ordered a 6-rib dinner but our server advised that because beef ribs are a lot larger than pork, that a half rack of beef ribs is actually a 3-4 ribs, so I took his advice and got that. Glad I did! They were definitely huge. I asked for no beans, but got the coleslaw, cornbread, and fries, that came with it. While the sides were good, I focused on eating the ribs in-house because they were piping hot and the fries and cornbread could be easily heated later, if needed, without overcooking. The beef ribs take a bit longer, so keep it in mind if you're in a rush. The barbecue sauce had a nice kick to it, not necessarily spicy, but a kick, and also sweet and a bit tangy. The meat wasn't fall-off-the-bone and had some chew, which I didn't mind. Huge portion for sure! There was also a generous portion of fries. I call them Costco fries because most people understand what I'm talking about when I say that's the kind of breading/fry. I loved that cornbread came with the meal and wasn't an additional cost. I just wish it came with a pat of butter or something. If you're looking for a toddler-friendly meal, you can get the Buffalo fingers starter just plain, without it tossed in sauce. There are a ton of different awards, articles, posters, and signs that line the walls, including one that says they're now pouring Broadhead Amber Ale. Service was great, very attentive, fast, and friendly. We came just before the lunch rush, around 11:30-11:45am and there were plenty of tables and it was easy to order and receive our meals in a timely fashion. Family-friendly place as well, though I think they only have a couple of high chairs. Loved that it was laid back and they didn't mind our excitable little dude.

I was…read morealready starting to feel hungry, so I asked myself, should I sit in traffic all hangry or should I pull into the plaza and get something to eat? I decided on the latter. I had been to all the restaurants in the plaza before except for Chinese Dragon BBQ, so I figured why not check it out. Now I consider myself quite adventurous when it comes to food, but after reviewing the menu at Chinese Dragon BBQ, I have realized that my adventurousness is limited to spices/flavours and methods of cooking, and maybe fruits and vegetables. When it comes to unusual animals or unusual body parts of usual animals, I am much less adventurous. Pig ears, beef aortas, lamb kidneys, and duck heads? I think I'll pass, lol. I ended up ordering a plate of dumplings stuffed with pork, eggs, and chives ($10.99). The dumplings were boiled, and I got 10 of them. I was asked if I wanted soy sauce or black vinegar as dipping sauce, and I went with the vinegar. The dumplings had a good amount of filling in them - ground pork, scrambled eggs and chopped chives. The outside was nice and chewy and not overly thick. They were good, but I have had better dumplings elsewhere. However, it's obvious that dumplings are not the specialty here and it's organ meats on skewers and other such exotic things for which they are known. Service was good. They brought me a whole water pitcher for myself. I drink a lot of water, so I loved this. The restaurant is clean looking and a good size. It's in the same plaza as Food Basics, Nando's, Shoppers Drug Mart and Tutti Frutti. Lots of free parking. This restaurant is not my jam, but if you're looking for Chinese BBQ with items like those I mentioned earlier then this is your place. I have not been to any other restaurant in Ottawa where I have seen these things on the menu. After I left, the traffic had cleared up, so I'm glad I stopped in to get some food. I didn't find it fantastic, but I have no regrets! :)

Chinese Dragon BBQ is located in the same strip mall as Food Basics along Merivale, next to a…read morenoodle shop I'd previously reviewed. They're owned by the same people and often move food between the two shops. Chinese Dragon BBQ is the larger of the two siblings, being able to accommodate not only 4 times the amount of people but also a larger menu, featuring - you guessed it - Chinese (not dragon) BBQ. It also has more traditional Northern Chinese stir-frys and hot pots. Many of the options are spicier than the run-of-the-mill Chinese food (which is more of the Southern Chinese variety) but just as good. We've been twice now, once for the BBQ and the second time for the stir-frys and hot pot. The BBQ items, which come skewered, were a bit pricey, about $3+ per, and salty. Thus the second time, we focused mainly on the other items. We bought the Soft-Shelled Crab Fried Rice and a fish hot pot that didn't have an English name associated with it. They were reasonably priced and tasty. However, all of the food we ordered seem to be very greasy. My favourite was the fried rice. The seasoning was perfect with a good amount of "wok-air" but as soon as it cooled down, you could taste (and see) the amount of oil there. Similarly, a thick layer of oil could be found in the hot pot, which isn't terrible when hot but doesn't make you feel great afterwards. The service is, for the most part, attentive, making sure your water is filled and that you have everything you need. They come to check on you quite often but sometimes, you'll have to put in some effort to flag them down, especially if you're seated in a inconspicuous spot (you choose your own seats if it's not too busy). If you're looking to experience a different kind of Chinese food, it's worth a shot - we'll probably be back too since they carry dishes that few other restaurants have. It may not be the best idea for your health to go often though...
