The chicken was amazing, Mac and cheese was amazing, the brisket was pretty good. The beef ribs were okay. Corn bread was also really good. The lady at the front was very nice and helpful. My wife and I were in Ottawa and were recommended Moe's BBQ by a friend, who mentioned they had been a few times and it was the best halal BBQ spot in the area. Given the stellar review from our friend, we decided to go there for dinner and ended up ordering the 6oz smoked brisket with two sides (fries and mac and cheese) and a pulled beef burger. It came out to ~$35. The meat was phenomenally cooked. It was very flavourful and left us wanting more. It also came with some BBQ sauce, which made the meal that much better. The sides we ordered were just O.K. in my opinion, but everything else was fabulous. The interior decor was nice and cozy and it almost felt like you were eating in a small cabin. My husband and I got takeout from Moe's BBQ and overall it was really good. We got 2 orders of the Sample Platter ($23 each). The Sample Platter comes with a chicken drumstick and thigh, 3 oz of brisket, 3 oz of pulled beef and your choice of 2 sides. We got fries and mac and cheese for both orders. It also comes with 3 sauces: ketchup, BBQ, and a mayo-based sauce. Everything was packed in styrofoam, which is not my preference for both health and environmental reasons (hot food + styrofoam = chemicals leaching into the food, and styrofoam is not recyclable). Nonetheless, the food was tasty, although I'm sure it would have been even tastier had we eaten there. The smoked chicken was delicious. The flavour was excellent. Not too salty. The chicken went well with the mayo-based sauce. The pulled beef was tender and melt in your mouth. It was a bit fatty though. The brisket was also fatty. I'd say my favourite was the chicken, then the pulled beef, then the brisket. They were all good though. The fries were a bit soft when we got home, but they were still good, so I'm sure they would be amazing fresh. I love how they are hand cut with the skins still on. They were slightly sweet too and not mealy/starchy. The mac and cheese was ok, but nothing remarkable in my opinion. The BBQ sauce had a bit of a spicy kick which I enjoyed, and the mayo-based sauce was a bit rich, but tasted good with the chicken in small amounts. Service was friendly. You order at the counter and pay, then if you're eating in, they bring the food to you, if you're taking out, they ask for your name and when it's done, they call out your name. The restaurant is halal. It is in a strip mall. Same mall as Wendy's and Produce Depot. Lots of free parking. read more

I first found out about this place through a sponsored ad on Instagram. Not my usual way to find a restaurant. I read great reviews but thought they were so good the owner must have written them. I am happy to report I was wrong. It was a rainy Tuesday night and the place wasn't busy. We were warmly greeted by Moe himself. The menu is simple and Hallal ( no pork). I had the sample platter which included a quarter chicken, pulled beef and a slice of brisket. $23. My partner had the beef rib $23 (on special). On the side we had rice, Greek salad, Mac and cheese and smoked beans. Total came to $55 with tip. The chicken was perfect! The skin was really crispy and the meat was moist. The pulled beef was really flavourful with a beautiful blend of spices. The brisket was smoked for 14 hours and was melt in your mouth. The Mac and cheese was the real thing using aged red cheddar. The ribs were just the right texture and had been smoked for 4 hours then steamed for an hour then grilled. The beans were made with smoke from the brisket and were divine! Not mushy or dry. The Greek salad was nicely presented. All sauces were house made. His genuine wood smoker comes from Texas. He's a self taught smoke aficionado who started cooking at a very young age. Moe has only been in this location for two months but it is obviously his passion. Go see Moe before You gotta Eat Here finds Your tummy will be glad you did. SO glad that I finally made it into this restaurant after many, many takeout and Uber eats experiences, it's location is convenient and super cute. This spot is in a strip mall, so parking is free, convenient, and abundant. The atmosphere is cozy, clean, and rustic. With less than ten booths, it is not a huge restaurant- it's quaint, but everything has great character. I would classify this as casual dining with a fast food edge. You order and pay at the counter upon arrival, as you would for fast food- but the food gets brought to you at your table. I ordered the brisket which was really tender and juicy, and I had the rice as my side. It was tasty, but I only really tried it for variety- I'm not much of a rice person with my meat. Previoiusly I've had their mac and cheese which is SO good. I really like that this place is Halal. Mandy is great. Always in a pleasant mood, even when overwhelmed when it gets busy. And, trust me, this place is BUSY during peak times. That's how you know it's good. I admit, the first time ordering takeout was a hiccup. I called in my order since we're a 20 minute drive. When I got there, I was told my order had been lost. WHAT!?!?!?! To make up for it, I was offered a rush on my order, and some free wings on the side. Who's gonna say NO to free wings? The second time we ordered (Skip The Dishes) I arrived at the time the system said my order would be ready. Had to wait another 10 minutes. Mainly because of the number of people in line ahead of me. No problem. It'll be worth the wait. And it was! 3rd time, I decided to drive there, order there and wait. I went before the rush when it was quiet. Food was ready in 15 minutes. I gave Moe's bbq over two chances because every time I read the reviews; I thought maybe a second try would convince me. However, the food in one word would be underwhelming, they take pretty pictures but nothing else is worth the hype. I should have taken a picture of my food... I was close to tears. The ribs were so tasteless, greasy and so joined together it felt like chewing on a sponge whole (because I couldn't even properly test out the meat in small pieces. It was all or nothing ). The brisket was well done. Except it was also tasteless. Not even salt and/or black pepper could be tasted. The pulled beef, another underwhelming tasteless conjoined piece of food (absolutely horrible) The only thing with a basic 4/10 amount of taste would be their chicken and the bbq sauce. I hate the fact that I did so much research on this place and received the worst kind of food ever. Especially knowing how beautiful ribs can taste. If you can avoid eating here, I'm not trying to spoil anyone's business but I'd advice you not to. It isn't worth even 5$ of your money. Talk more the 42$ I spent. We ordered the sample platter that came with beef brisket, pulled beef and 1/4 chicken. We paid $8 more to upgrade it to 6oz of each of the beef item instead of 3oz on the menu as as sides we ordered bbq rice and fries. Now the rice was unexpectedly good mostly because it was basmati grain with not too overbearing spices. But for the fries, I think we ended up getting the small cut potatoes that's usually left toward the end of a batch. So that was little disappointing but still not worth taking off an entire star from this review. The service is fast and the staff is very friendly and has good suggestions for us since it was our first time. I was a first time customer today and I have to say, because of experience alone, I will not be returning. We get home after picking up our order and we were missing the rice. I called the place and the same girl who took our order picks up and says we didn't get the rice because they were out of rice...They never gave us a chance to substitute, just let us leave without part of our order. She tells me if we want substitute sides or a refund in cash or on the form of payment, we had to go back. I went back, asked for 50% off my chicken platter order in cash (I didn't have the debit card with me because I didn't pay), and the girl at the front gave me attitude saying I couldn't get cash because of the amount. At the end of it all, I got 50% off the before tax price of the chicken meal after speaking with the manager. I think the manager needs to rethink who their front of house is and have a better system on order fulfillment. Apart from messing up my order, there were at least 5 delivery people waiting at one time and they were calling out "out of stock" items while I was waiting in line. Luckily, the chicken and burned ends were tasty especially with the homemade bbq sauce, as was the cornbread. The mac and cheese was just ok and the fries were basic. I would have ordered from them again if it wasn't for this shit show service. I got the beef brisket which was nothing like the pictures on the website where it is cut thin and with no fat, i got a chunk of meat that was 50% unedible fat. The pulled chicken sandwich also does not look the same as the website, its just a torn apart piece of chicken breast. It was quite overcooked and hard as well.
