The vibe of the restaurant is a 4 star. The food is a meh, 2 maybe, 3 star. I went to chucks for a family birthday lunch, and the restaurant was super accommodating with our group and children. Service was a bit slow to get drinks, and there were no water refills, and it was a slow start to place our orders. Some of our plates did sit at the table before they were taken away for quiet sometime. Our waitress was friendly and did not rush us out of the restaurant. Whenever we asked for something she brought it. The restaurant was clean as well as the bathrooms (minus the obscene writing on the bathroom stalls from guests), I guess we can call that bathroom charm.? lol. I did read prior reviews and was not looking forward to the visit here, but the vibe was really good. I love how they had massive TV's all around the restaurant playing sports. Everyone was having a great time. The food was just basic though. The hubs had the wings and said they were OK. I had the nachos and could make better at home. The flatbread was decent. Everyone else at the table ordered burgers and fries, and the portions were pretty small. The quality of the food justifies the menu price they are charging, and I don't think the 3% honest to goodness tax should be charged. The prices are almost on par with other food establishment (think montanas, east side marios), that I do think they should just get rid of that extra "tax" I mean 15 bucks for a plate of basic nachos aint cheap. Chuck's is a place to go for a relatively cheap decent meal and a drink without completely draining your wallet. Be aware of their surcharge of % which I view as more of a marketing gimmick more than anything else and is 3% of the menu price. Ostensibly it's to keep their prices low. Check out the half price appetizers after 9p. Cocktail prices are also incredibly reasonable. We went over around 8:30 on a Friday, and the place was 98% full, so they're doing something right. It was full up a few minutes later. Big mix of people. We both had the surf and turf lobster, and a Caesar to drink. For the price we were both happy. It was a good meal. I have been eating at Chucks for quite a while, in Belleville but have been eating in Trenton since it came. I never had a bad meal until today. I usually have the Prime Rib or the Chucks Burger. I had the burger today it was terrible. Had the first bite and new they had changed there burger. It had no flavor and could tell it was a frozen patty. I could have bought this at a grocery store. It was the slowest service I have had there and they didn't bring our food at the same time. I wont go back if they are going to keep this burger. read more

Always a great meal and amazing prices. Wednesdays are our go-to. It's a little loud when full, but it's a great place.

I went after 9 pm so all appetizers were 1/2 price. Drinks are cheap as well. If you are looking for an inexpensive night out with friends this spot is great! With lots of tvs you can enjoy the game, quite busy for the time of day and location ( I arrived around 9:20 on a Friday night). Truthfully food was average but based on price and everything else it was totally worth it. Of the three I ordered the quesadilla was the best tasting. Service was slow, but it was busy and I recognize it is very hard to staff restaurants these days. I am a sucker for half priced food! I'll definitely be back. read more

Food is mediocre. The steak was very good but the sides are very limited unless you want carbs. A salad or vegetables are not options.

After a long hard week, stopped by Chuck's Thunder Bay because it's close to home. Kaleb the bartender was wonderful: engaging, friendly & focused. He suggested the Bruschetta. I ordered it along with Chuck's Phily Cheesesteak to go. The Bruschetta was stone cold & I waved over Ayush the evening manager. He said he would have a new order Bruschetta made. I told him that food didn't need to be wasted, just have my order heated up. He refused and had new sent. It was still stone cold. I asked him to touch it so he could know it wasn't lukewarm but cold. He refused. And he refused my request & when I said it's untouched take it off my bill (I also ordered Chuck's Philly Cheesesteak) He absolutely refused. The simple task of making a well-paying customer wasn't a priority. I was told in no uncertain circumstance, that I had to pay for a stone cold store bought appetizer. Wow! My bill with tip was over $100. I truly hope Ayush, the condescending, arrogant manager who wouldn't see the big picture and chiseled me over frozen cold Bruschetta is worth it. Food is always great portion, flavour and of course cost! Service although may have been between shifts was very scarce. The bartender took care of us pleasantly although did not have the time to be serving us on the dining room side. Even made a comment "I have no idea where my manager or support staff are!" The restaurant needed some TLC. No me me yes available to seat with, empty condiments on the every table for use and dining room in shambles. Great place to sit bar side and drink. Not the best to bring a family for dining experience on a Sunday afternoon. Little extra staff, side duties and manager presence would go a long way. If you like being ripped off, eat here! They add a hidden 3% fee to their bill. I asked about it and the manager tried to justify it by saying... and I quote! "We charge an extra 3% so your food isn't crap. It's just a small fee so we can keep our prices low.". So my reply was "you are swindling me out of money with a hidden fee so you can stay in business - I'm not paying it". Yes it is a small fee, but what if it wasn't tomorrow and your $20 meal is really $40? Anyway, they threatened to call the cops on me when I refused to pay the fee. Sensible management - good way to lose repeat customers. Yeah, we used to love the place, but I don't stand for dishonesty. I don't care if the fee is 10 cents or 3 dollars as it was in my case - it is illegal! Be up-front with your customers, or raise your menu prices, or remove the fee. read more

Chuck's Roadhouse is a chain with locations all over Ontario. This one just opened up in Ottawa March/April 2021. I was really excited to see a location open up in Ottawa as I had been envious of my GTA Yelp friends and their pictures of Steak and Lobster Tail Dinners for $20 (it's mostly you, Mary T, lol). My husband and I ordered the aforementioned dinners and we were overall very pleased. So it's a 7 oz top sirloin steak with a lobster tail. It comes with a piece of corn on the cob (maybe like a third of a corn cob) and fries. You can substitute onion rings for an additional $1.99 or a Caesar salad for additional $3.50. We stuck with fries. My husband ordered his steak medium and he said it was cooked perfectly. I ordered mine well done because I find most places do their steak a little rarer than requested. This place does not joke around with "well done," it was really well done, like even too well done for my liking, lol. I will say medium-well next time, haha. It was still good though, just a bit dry, but it was totally on me for saying well done, lol. The lobster tail was grilled and a bit dry as well, but I still enjoyed it, because I love lobster. The fries were just ok, nothing too remarkable. The fries, steak and lobster were a bit too salty for my liking, but it wasn't too bad. I gave my husband my corn. I saw online pictures that this meal comes with gravy, but we didn't get any gravy :( We got half a lemon and some melted butter. We used neither. The portion size was excellent for the price. I was beyond stuffed afterwards. Since we are in the midst of the Covid-19 Pandemic, we got takeout. We called in our order and went to pick it up. Service was friendly and efficient. Of note, this chain charges an "honest to goodness tax," which is 3%. This basically means whatever the price you see, it's actually 3% more. I personally think this is silly, just list the price 3% higher and do away with the additional charge. It's also deceiving to call it a tax, because it doesn't go to the government, it goes to the restaurant. Anyway, just thought I would mention it. Hubby went into the restaurant to get the food. I waited in the car, so I don't know what the inside looks like. One day when this dreadful Pandemic is over, I hope to be able to dine in and also take advantage of their inexpensive mixed drinks, lol (like their cocktails and martinis are $4-5). My husband and I ordered food for pick up, it took 50 min for it to be ready. I almost left without it I was tired of waiting. But we're glad we stayed to wait. I ordered the peppercorn New York medium rare, the outside it looked quite burnt. Though, that didn't affect the taste, and my steak was cooked perfectly. It was actually very delicious. This review is about service rather than food quality. Lets face it Chuck's food is average at best. Why do we keep going back? Well good prices on booze and for today great service. While we have run the gamut on service at Chuck's Ottawa from really good and efficient to slow and non caring, today we couldn't have asked for anyone better. Shelly showed us how service should be every time we visit a restaurant just for drinks or for a full meal. Friendly, courteous and truly engaged with us every time he visited our table. We both left with a smile on our faces because of the great service we received. BTW, today our Caesars, beer were as good and cold as expected. Myself and a friend are regulars on and off at the Ottawa location since the pandemic. Today, Friday, August 23 went in around 2:30. I ordered steak & lobster tail with baked potato with sour cream on the side. Received mashed. I never order mashed. Had to locate the server to request baked potato. Server informed me there is no baked potato until after 5 p.m. (odd). Requested sweet potato fries. More than 20 minute later, no fries. Asked our server who returned saying "kitchen forgot". Received them more than half an hour later in total. Requested 4 take out containers. Received 3. Requested the 4th from a different staff. Had to request bill after waiting following take out container request. Bill has a charge for the sweet potato fries. Ask why I am being charged when I requested baked potato, received mashed so requested the sweet potato fries with no mention there would be a charge. Server states quite flatly "you requested mashed", I state I did not. She reiterates same while grinning. I pay without tip. I then go up to seek to speak to the manager. He states he will speak with her and nothing more. The server walks past grinning while I speak with the manager. I inform him of above. He states he will comp my meal next visit (informed him we have been there regularly on and off). Will see. I sent an email regarding my experience to the main website. I then decided to read reviews and see there is a 3% tax in addition to government taxes. I kept my receipt and looked at it once home. It is called an "Honest to Goodness tax of 3%"! In the past, have not thoroughly reviewed my receipt. I will from every place moving forward. Had to frequently call the server over as she never checked in or asked how everything was the during our meal. The server also spoke with another server while looking over at our table and both began laughing. So awesome they found it amusing. Myself and friend have been there as it is close to her place and not too pricy, but seriously, would rather spend more for quality food and service. Won't be going back after this experience. Yesterday found a fly inside my beer and when I asked for it the manager or owner, the guy just acted as though it was my mistake for asking to replace it. If the crowd gets busy they try to move you out by giving reasons like, we don't serve more than 3 glasses of beer, the oven is broken it takes more time for your order. Aweful. Burnt, dry chicken, small portion of soggy frozen fries, and dry chewy overdone ribs. Plus - they cut their racks of ribs in half lengthwise to give a tiny narrow "rack" of ribs. Buyers beware. The server forgot to punch in my ribs so they were 20 minutes later than the rest of the meal. They did comp my chicken and ribs at least. Wife ordered nachos, they had next to no salsa and we're almost entirely covered in a blanket of sour cream that rendered most of the chips inedibly soggy. Meanwhile another table behind us was seated after us, more people in their party and the ordered, ate, and left before we got our food. Never go there again. Perfectly cooked. The piece of corn that came with it was pathetic. Soggy and so small. It was flat out disgusting. The baked potato was well cooked but quite small as well. I ate a appetizer and a main and was still hungry. I found portion sizes of the sides to be rather small. And the portion of the steak to be questionable. Overall the atmosphere was good. The waiter was average. A little slow to take drink orders but polite. A few things this restaurant needs to work on is quantity. Especially since there is a 3% fee on the food??? OK so i've been here a couple times and the first two times it was amazing, we had the sweetest waitress ever, she was so nice service was amazing. but we went here today and our server was awful? like the person who sat us was so sweet, the guy who gave us the food was sweet too. but our actual server? literally ignored us the whole time we were there. spent most of his time at the bar or at other tables. like i respect the hell out of servers, i've been there and it's rlly not a great job so i cut them a lot of slack. but like he didn't come to our table at all for a good half hour while we were eating. i had an empty glass and i had to ask another server to get him so i could get a refill. she got me the refill but he came back and took my friends plate without asking. he just seemed to either hate his job or hate us i really don't know. just not personable at all, wasn't friendly or nice. bad vibes all around. the food was good tho!! like definitely still go there!! super cheap and usually everyone there is super nice! maybe just don't sit in david's section read more

So we decided to try this restaurant last night. It did not go great. The staff are very nice but NONE of them are properly trained including management. It was a family dinner of 3. We were escorted to our table and then greeted by the two servers going to help with our table one of them being trained by the other. Our Drink, and appetizer orders were taken and we then waited 10 to 15 minutes to get our drinks, When they arrived 2 out of the 3 drinks had issues. I ordered a pint of beer and received a glass of beer, my wife ordered red wine but the carafe it came in had a bug in it and the server was aware of it prior to delivering it because the server training her told her to bring it and to "pretend" she just noticed it. The glass was also filthy, She then returned with a new carafe of wine with another dirty glass. The nachos arrived a few minutes later but were ice cold and missing the guacamole we ordered with it. for the mains I ordered Wings,Rings. and Fingers with the spiciest sauce they have. They came with very mild sauce and everything was very bland. My wife ordered Bruschetta flatbread, It was a little burnt and was sparse with toppings. My son ordered the Hand carved roast beef. which I would not consider a sandwich as there was very little meat in it. it was served with a warm bbq sauce that tasted like tomato soup but we expecting something like an au jus! Nothing was a hit! We asked for the bill and to speak to the manager. My wife went into the restaurant to speak to him and explain all the issues, We were not looking for a free meal, or a discount we just wanted him to know about our experience. that's when all the excuses were spewed out. he did not even try to listen to the issues The bill came and they comped a few items. After we paid the bill and left my wife noticed a hidden 3% Honest to Goodness fee added at the bottom of the bill which we were not notified of beforehand.
