I got the grilled chicken tacos and they were good! I am absolutely obsessed with their nachos. I would honestly prefer to get nachos as my meal every time we go, haha. They're so good!

Passion fruit marg, alligator bites, curly fries, brisket tacos

Menu prices have definitely got the inflation hit so it's a little too expensive to come here frequently. I love their margaritas and we tried alligator bites for the first time - delicious! Service was good, staff are friendly. We came at a weird time so we had the outdoor patio to ourselves which was nice. Overall, it was a really nice experience.

    Fajita combo for 6
    Sami H.

Okay okay okay. It's really hard to find the right food to celebrate for Mother's Day during a lockdown and after hunting through all our favourites we landed on Lone Star's menu and the Fajita Combo for 6 special. Let me tell you, they say it's a combo for 6, but in reality you could feed 10 people easily with this meal. So we ordered the meal for take out and their website system was so simple to browse through and you could even set a time for pick up so that you can actually plan your trip instead of rushing all over the city for your meal. The combo came with all your traditional fajita needs including flour tortillas, peppers, onions and all the topics you could imagine. Salsa, Cheddar, Queso sauce and two 1L bottles of pop. As for the meat - we got the chicken and beef combo and they meat was cooked just right. The chicken was savoury and the beef was cooked medium rare - perfection. It's too bad you couldn't take the sizzling plate home with you, now that would be the ultimate take out meal. For $142.98, a dinner for 6 that really feeds 10 is a great price point. I highly recommend this place for all family meals and gatherings during this new normal we are living in.

Steak and guacamole sandwich with lattice fries

Good but, meh. My friend and I came here for a girls night dinner, fairly early on a Saturday night (around 5pm). Thankfully, it wasn't busy so service was fairly prompt. We both ordered the steak and guacamole sandwich. I asked for a lattice fries as my side, with a small side of mole (it's my favourite thing at This restaurant, not sure why but the mole is so tasty). The fries were good, and as always the mole was delicious. I'm glad I asked for it as I ended up using it primarily for my sandwich. For a sandwich with guacamole in its name, it was low on guac, low on steak, and low on flavour. If it hadn't been for my side of mole which I spread on it myself, I might not have bothered eating it. It was pretty disappointing. And soggy. I'm not sure it was worth the $19. I'm giving this place 3 starts because: the fries, mole, and chips with salsa you get in the beginning were all good. Service was also good- friendly, prompt, and attentive, and the restaurant and it's facilities were clean. There was ample parking and it's in a convenient location, so that also works in its favour. I do wish the meal had been better, though. If I come back I'll stick to the fajitas since that's their specialty.

Guacamole, lettuce, shredded cheddar cheese, sour cream, and pico de gallo

This is the location near the airport and technically considered Gloucester when you search for directions. I had dinner here outside on the patio, my first patio for dinner since the pandemic and my second patio in total since the pandemic. Glad we had a reservation because there weren't any tables left outside for dinner at 6pm on a Friday. They do ask you to sign-in using the QER code, but proof of vaccination isn't required if you're sitting outdoors. I haven't been to Lone Star in awhile, but they gave us a free plate of house-made tortilla chips and salsa for every two people while we looked at the menu and waited to order. Not sure if they still charge for additional plates like they did at one point. The chips were crunchy and the salsa was great as usual. They currently have a special "Tacos and Tequila" menu, with, you guessed it, different tacos and margaritas. I got the Paloma margarita from this menu and was tempted to get the crispy lobster tacos as well, but I figured why not mess with a good thing and went with a classic - fajitas. I ordered the regular size frozen margarita (1.25 oz of tequila) because I wanted a fancy glass for this special night out, but they also have the Texas size (2 oz) and the grande (2.5 oz). Like their other margaritas, it has Sauza gold tequila and the classic lime margarita as the base, plus "ruby red grapefruit flavours", which I don't think is real grapefruit. The house-smoked salt rim was on half of the glass and it didn't come with the lime wedge, but that was fine. I found it nice and tart, but too sweet for my taste, and I'm glad I only got the regular size. I originally ordered chicken fajitas for one but decided to change it last-minute to steak so that a friend and I could split her chicken and my steak. Their lingo confused us for a sec, so just a heads up that they say "regular torts" for the regular flour tortillas (gluten-free corn tortillas or lettuce wraps are the other options), and "buff" for Buffalo, like the buffalo chicken. I wished my steak was cut a little thicker or on the sizzling plate for a little less time since it was cooked to medium instead of medium rare, but my other friend's steak was cooked perfectly, so I think mine was just a one-off. It was still as tasty as usual, though, with great grilled flavour. The chicken was also cut very thin, but tender and moist. There was plenty of grilled onions and peppers and southwest rice, but we didn't get any beans like it said on the menu. It also came with shredded lettuce, sour cream, pico de gallo, cheddar cheese (the pre-shredded kind with the cellulose or cornstarch so it doesn't stick together), and guacamole that wasn't an extra charge. When our server asked if I wanted pickled jalapeños, I said yes, and they didn't tell me, but I should have known they were an extra charge ($1.99) - the super small side dish of them wasn't worth it for me. The tortillas were warm and thicker than I remember, so I only ended up eating 3 out of the 5. Instead of a second margarita that I originally planned to get, I decided to get an order of churros instead so that my pregnant girlfriend could satisfy a craving without having to commit to a full order of four for herself. It came with chocolate and caramel dips. The churros were on the crispier side and heavy on the cinnamon, and, in my opinion, didn't really need any dips because they were sweet enough. Service was fine, but they didn't refill our waters, so be sure to ask if you want more, and mention to them to leave all of your dishes, including your extra tortillas, if you plan on taking a to-go box home. Not sure if they're letting people use the hot sauce bottles like they did pre-pandemic, but our server didn't offer them to us and I totally forgot to ask, so if you'd like some of their different hot sauces, be sure to ask for them as well.

    The end result of fajitas.

Comfortable seating, lots of space, and warm, inviting interior. The servers were very friendly and accommodating but not intrusive... actually my only complaint would be that the servers were maybe on the side of not attentive enough even though we mentioned half our group was trying to make a flight and that we would need to be there no more than an hour. I had a fajita plate which was BOM!!! My friend had the steak and avocado sandwich, which was delicious and had a very tasty side salad served with them. The diet coke and coffee were excellent hits at our table for what they are haha! Clean, well-maintained washroom. This is a great place to bring family or co-workers. Also, plenty of free parking .

I had the Baby Back Ribs. They were excellent! The accompanying beans and cole slaw were fine. Not a big fan of the lattice fries. The portion of ribs was very big. Wished that there was BBQ sauce on the side. The waitress was fine - though it took her some time refill my drinks. Overall a good experience. I'd go again.

First time in a Lone Star at Ottawa.. overall a nice experience..was served by a nice bubbly young girl Arizona who greeted everone with smile.. ordered the chicken fajita which was nice.. try it with the lettuce wrap. Overall nice experience and yes free salsa and chips as soon as you sit.. thats nice Found the establishment a little pricy with respect to the chicken portion but overall a place u can visit with family ans friend for a nice lunch and dinner

The ribs was pretty good, cooked well and tender however everything else came cold. The drinks were pretty good, i like 40oz Corona that represented "everything is big in Texas".

Had a great time here.... the staff here are super friendly... I wish I caught their names. Service was a bit slow... but the food was really good. I got the rib and wings combo... came with coleslaw and I got sweet potato fries. Portions were good too.

Great margarita with a Corona mini

Drumroll please... Riviera -- Wow…read more This is what I'm talking about. Sexy. Sophisticated. Huge ceilings. Gorgeous bar. And a Negroni list with ten different versions. Don't miss Riviera when you're in Ottawa. We arrived an hour early before our third dinner guest joined us, so we started with a drink and a small appetizer. After several of my jokes fell flat, I told the waitress to just pick a Negroni for me based on what she'd heard from me so far. She nailed it. It was a slightly sweeter Negroni than the traditional one, with a hint of rosemary. We shared a dynamite tartare to start. Our buddy arrives and, without even looking at the menu, says: "You have to try a Negroni here -- they clearly know what they're doing." So I went for a second one -- this time a classic. Perfect. Next up: the seafood tower. Honestly, it felt like it had just come out of the sea. Razor clams, tuna belly tartare/ceviche on a mini salad leaf that was outstanding, plus lobster and crab claws that were spot on. A fabulous start. There were three of us, so we shared a steak with fries and a beautiful au jus, perfect gnocchi, and a salad with chicory, little nuts of some kind, and tons of shaved cheese -- Parmesan-ish. I can't remember exactly what it was because I'm writing this the morning after... and there may have been a few more wines involved. We finished by sharing a pavlova with passion fruit -- three spoons. I almost hate to admit this... but it was better than anything I've had in Toronto in years. Everything felt fresh, almost farm-to-table. Light, lively, and just a great vibe. In my opinion, Riviera is the perfect restaurant. Oh, and I added our waitress to my newsletter list because she wanted to try an excellent Polish water called Perlage that I think the restaurant should carry. I got the feature cocktail ($8) which happened to be a Peach Bellini that day. My husband got the Al's Lager ($6.50). We shared the Calamari ($10) and Sliders ($13). My Peach Bellini was delicious and was served with a slice of dehydrated orange and a paper straw. The hubster thought the lager was ok. The sliders were excellent. There were 3 sliders and they were a good size. The bun was a plain brioche bun and was lightly toasted. The beef patty was flavourful. It came with cheese, pickles and burger sauce. I would get these again. The Calamari were good, although not particularly unique in taste. They were battered and tender, not chewy. They came with seafood sauce. Service was courteous, although the server came back twice to verify our order, lol. Our order was correct in the end, so no big deal. The restaurant ambiance is poshy but not pretentious. Very little ravioli and you actually could not find the pasta squares under the slippery shitake mushrooms, the tremendous amount of oil and butter, the cream sauce was so overly done and sickenly rich. Why add so much to a what should be a simple pasta? I had a couple of bites and then boxed and brought home.....picture of all the toppings, too much, and look at that oil and butter! By this, I mean you show up as a solo diner and they treat you like you are not worth their time. It took me almost an hour just to park. This is a very busy shopping/dining centre, which I didn't mind, but the parking garage was packed, hard to find a spot. But I did it. Went up to the restaurant. There were four groups waiting...I counted them as I went in. Many empty tables. This was the classic case of a bunch of people standing around at the front like deer in headlights. They ignored me and two of the three walked off before anyone even acknowledged me. Finally, the young lady with dark hair wearing a green cardigan spoke to me. I was a waitress in college many years. Some of this generation (not the amazing restaurant I went to after) wouldn't know customer service if it slapped them in the face. She asked how many and as soon as I said, "Just one," she screwed up her nose and made a face and totally wrote me off. I got the copout: I can seat you at the bar. I explained I have RA and those stools are torture for me (also twisted my knee and the bar stool at Prohibition the night before was so painful I had to move). She said I could eat outside. It was 83 degrees. I told her it was too hot. She said there was a 2.5 hour wait. Bullshit. I've worked in restaurants, eaten at MANY. Four groups waiting? She just wrote me off. Too bad for you. I order appies, drinks...have a bill like a couple and tip to make up0 for it too. Ask the servers at restaurant I went to instead. So rude. No wonder so many restaurants are closing. I wouldn't go back if you PAID me to eat there. There are far too many options to treat paying customers this way. If she is any indication of the service there, I dodged a bullet! And found a gem instead. Good luck!

It's an okay/fun experience, but not sure I'd go back…read more The sushi was very good. The rest of the food that was prepared in front of us wasn't bad per se, but it all tasted the same in the soy sauce and teriyaki sauce. We had reservation for right when they opened, but one of the dishes was already not available. The staff were all very kind, although I felt a little bad for our chef who was just doing this part-time and looking for a job in his field.

Myself and 2 other guests went here on a Saturday night. We went early, due to a later commitment…read more The restaurant does have parking across the street in a small alley which is nice for a downtown place. The restaurant itself is due for a refresh without a doubt. Appears to have been last updated in the '80's. Which leaves it looking worn and shabby. Luckily we weren't there for the decor. We were greeted at the door as we came in and shown to our grill table which was preset for our arrival. We ordered some "exotic" mixed Drinks. Which were tasty but not Over the top delicious. We ordered the seafood combo, chicken and shrimp, and a chicken combo at the tapenyaki grill. Our "host" put on a chef jacket and cooked our food at the grill in front of us without the typical fanfare or show that we were expecting. This was ok with us but some might find it disappointing. The food itself was flavorful and generally properly cooked. The soup starter was supposed to be a chicken broth was tasteless and actually looked like a hot water bath with some mushroom flakes and scallions. We did find that the egg for the fried rice (which was an extra cost) was fried to a crispy rubbery texture but everything else was good with a tasty sauce that was not just soya or teriyaki. The portions were on the smaller side but enough just nothing left to take home. Overall the experience was under whelming for the price. They could easily improve by a refresh and slight changes to amounts of food. Specifically more vegetables, better soup flavor, and larger rice/noodles portions. The protein amounts were plenty even heavy compared to the rest of the portions. Overall ok, not worth a return visit though.
