This restaurant writes its own review! Difficulty parking, poor conditions for mobility issues, indifferent and surly staff are just a start. The first clue was waiting 10 minutes for a rickety table in a poor location, despite having made reservations. Then a further wait for a server, followed by a further wait for water, topped off with an incorrect drink order. Can't comment on the food, as an inquiry after an hour wait SINCE ordering revealed it would be at least another 15 minutes. At that point we left, to find fast food for the children. One of the best Mexican lunches I've had in Ottawa. The food at this establishment was nice and it was even cooked extremely fast and well. I also thought the fajitas ant chips tasted awesome and fresh and they were personally some of the best food items I've had in a long time. I also thought the service was nice because the staff were friendly and nice and the amount of time they took to cook the food was very speedy. I also thought this restaurant was very clean and nice on the inside and the ambiance is a rustic but modern design. The bill for the meal was not too high and the price fits all the items you get with your meal here. Partial order was given to wrong table, our nachos were dripping with oil even the server was shocked and took them back. Parts of our meal were okay but so many items had issues and the glassware was so sticky and dirty we had to get new clean glasses. We came here this evening for a late dinner. We had a 15 minute wait because it was quite busy, but well worth it. Had we pre-planned on a Saturday night, we could have booked a table but we decided to just drop in. My gf and I order the steak fajitas for 2 to split, and my hubby got the burrito. The burrito is huge and looked so good! The fajitas were perfect and cooked to perfection for me, but I like my meat on the rarer side. Because it was my bday month, and I signed up for their rewards program, I got a complimentary churros for desert. They got shared between us and were pretty good. I definitely recommend the caramel sauce on them. My server was friendly, on the ball, and got everything we asked for. My only complaint is that where we were seated, in the back by the big windows it's freezing. There isn't much in the way of insulation, I think the windows there might need replacing or updating. I'd recommend sitting elsewhere if it's cold outside. But besides that, it was a 5 star experience and I'll definitely revisit this location, trust me not all Lone Star locations are equal (steer clear of st Laurent unless you enjoy food poisoning). One of the original Lone stars in Ottawa I had been to the Hunt Club location on Monday which was fabulous great service great food great tortilla chips everything was outstanding Took a friend to this location on Wednesday to baseline rd because it was close to Westborough extremely disappointed the service was terrible the food was not great I was shocked that the Tortilla chips Were thick cold and totally inedible, while at the Hunt club location they were thin warm and delicious I had beef tortillas on Monday which were fabulous and I ordered chicken and tortillas here on baseline on Wednesday and they were passible, my friend shared the meal because she hardly eats and she got really sick after when she got home. So would I ever go back to this Lonestar, never and I would not recommend it everything about it is very unappetizing I would however recommend the Hunt club location when I asked my server at Baseline why the tortillas were thicker and staler than what I had eaten on Monday he said every location varies because of the chef? Really that is a very unusual answer so that means if the food is Unappetizing it's because the chef cooks it differently and what about the staff and the responses should they not be trying to make the customer happy and to come back to that location? I know when the Lonestar first opened and they have really changed their menu no more beef tacos and quite a few other things that were one of my favourites so that is disappointing Whole experience at this Baseline location was terrible read more

Dinner was a little bit of a disaster. Ordered our drinks, a plate of nachos to share and as well as a few side plates. The table that came ~10 minutes after us, were served before us (they had a full fajita dinner). We were informed that someone had dropped the bag of nacho chips and it would be out soon. A runner came to give us our nachos, and they had scant toppings; barely any beef pieces, small salsa and small queso, as well as forgotten quac. It was a 20+ minute wait for okay nachos. Our side was forgotten and came way later. No real consistency, but nice server and good food service. Edit: the server was super overworked, onions and other toppings weren't on the nachos, and we didn't get the proper size queso. read more

We had our staff Christmas lunch here. I've never had anything against Lone Star but it's not somewhere I would suggest if someone's going to ask me where I want to go out for lunch or dinner. It just seems over-rated and over-priced to me. But I had no say in this work lunch, so there I was. I have to admit, I appreciated that the menu now has calories by each dish. It surely made my decision much easier. I went with the southwest rice bowl, minus the beans. I'm not a fan of beans, just don't like them. I was happy to see there were no beans when my rice bowl arrived! For the price I was satisfied, the rice underneath was tasty and the avocado was fresh. The spicy sauce on top of it all really added the extra kick it needed. But it did feel like my dish was slightly overly salty and the piece of chicken that it came with seemed a bit small. I would likely have this dish again. There was nothing horrid about my experience there, the waitress was friendly and efficient. But where we were seated was very cold. Most of us kept our scarves on, and after eating we all had our coats on even though we weren't anywhere near ready to leave. I got 2 gift cards on Dec. 23 for $100.00 and $ 50.00. when we went to use the $100.00 card, it showed only $50 dollars on it. the second card also says $50 on it. I have a visa receipt for $150.00 and Lonestar took a month to respond and tell us we were wrong. this was the store on Hunt Club. Also they 'ran out' of the 'bonus' cards at Christmas. I left my phone number with them. Nobody called to bring or send the bonus cards either. At this point I would like them to honour the card I paid $100.00 for. I am never getting gift cards from them again. Food is usually good. read more

Normally this restaurant would get a 5 star rating as I have been many times in past years and LOVE IT! Saturdays are busy, we get it. We placed our names on the list and waited approx 40 min at the bar to get a table and then were surrounded with crawly, barefooted, creaming toddlers. The music was really loud this time around and we had to practically yell to hear each other. The food - I was craving enchiladas, got the chicken ones and they were OK. I was not a fan of the cold refried beans but I love their Spanish rice. Unfortunately, in the rice I found a huge piece of hard onion skin that I am glad I did not choke on which was kinda unappealing. The waitress was made aware but could care less really. He had steak fajitas and no sizzle came with the plate like everyone else's? SO underwhelming, The steak had to be cut into little pieces as it was so tough and sinewy. (also brought to waitress' attention) Not good when the meat is supposed to be eaten in the delicious tortillas. I dream of these tortillas - they were the best things on the plate, made fresh all day long. I do not feel 100% right now but I want to give Lone Star the benefit of the doubt and not give them a 2 star. Maybe my 1 margarita did not agree with the bit of food I had. BUT, like the tortillas, the margaritas are delicious and one of the best I have ever tasted within Canada. My husband and I went to this restaurant on Friday June 21st, 2019 and found that the quality of the food had gone down a lot. The chicken and beef tasted nothing like TexMex no flavor. We have been there a lot in the past and never did we ever been not satisfied with our meal. Cost a lot for the quality we got. I do not recommend any more. The best part about Lone Star are the nachos and salsa you get. The rest of the menu is meh to ok. I've pretty much tried the whole menu as this was somewhere we used to go all the time for my co-op work terms. The only thing I have not tried on a Lone Star menu is that massive steak. I'm thinking I have to accept that challenge at some point. Are there any Yelpers who want to attempt this with me? Most of the menu is pretty crappy. If you do want something from here I'd recommend the fajitas and that's about it. The fajitas come to your table sizzling hot and they give you the sides to make your own wraps...yes I know that defeats the purpose of going to a restaurant to be served but you get to make your own size portions and the items come fresh. One of the plus sides of eating at this Lone Star is that they have a patio which means you won't need an exorcist to get the Lone Star smell out of your clothing after each meal. When it comes to Tex-Mex, this place is the only place I go. Food here has always been consistently good! This place is always busy so expect to wait if you're heading there around dinner time. They start you off with a free bowl of Tortilla chips and salsa but be careful not to get too full on these while you wait for your food to come out!! As the previous yelper stated, this one was the original and to this day, has always been the best. I find the other ones such as the Kanata location and the St Laurent location, tend to lack in consistency, especially with the tortilla chips you get once you get seated. Popular spot! This evening I went with my wife and mother. The fajitas were just perfect. Our server Dixie was extremely accommodating and paid attention to what we requested. She was a gem. Out waitress was also the bartender. You can tell she wasn't completely focused on what we ordered. It took them almost 30 minutes to get us our meals and they missed up one of them. Ok - this is my second review for the Lonestar on Baseline and this time I went up a star. I visited here on family, with the family - so a different outing for me and I was very impressed. It was busy, yet my kids were happy and have asked to go back already. They were given activity pages, and the chips and salsa were a big hit to curb being hungry before the food arrives. An added bonus, despite being busy the food was out quickly - the kids ate every bite- they had the chicken fingers and caesar salad, I had my usual chicken quesadilla which never disappoints, my husband had the steak fajita and his only complaint, well not a complaint, was that it was good and he ate too much - so the serving was big, and he was happy too. Well done Lonestar - was a very pleasant lunch out with the family, and in my books is worth 5 starts everytime. read more

I was very excited to see this place near my hotel as it was legendary in BC back in the 80s. The fresh tortilla machine when you walked in, fajitas with all the fixins and unlimited tortillas at a reasonable price. Free chips and salsa It was amazing. Then they all disappeared from BC. The years however have not been kind. Got some fajitas for takeout. First off there was an $8 charge for chips and salsa which I believe are free in the restaurant? At least they used to be. Then it was over $20 for fajitas -,this consisted of 4 very doughy small tortillas, some peppers and onions , exactly 9 medium sized shrimp, 1/4 c lettuce, 2 tablespoons each of pico, sour cream and cheese plus 3 tablespoons of not fresh premade sour guacamole. There was also a bit of rice that had some awful Spice in it and was not eaten. No beans. Waaaaay over priced and very disappointing. My longing for line star is over. And if I had to eat in I would not have lasted 5 minutes with the super loud baaad fake country pop music they were playing. This place is an experience that everyone in Ottawa must have, simply because the Lonestar chain is local, and because it's fun. Throw all your foodie pretenses out the window - here the servers all go by nicknames like Dynamite, Thunderstruck or other cheeky things. I've always been impressed by their staff - I find they have some of the friendliest and bubbly people working there. As Coy mentioned, the homemade chips and salsa are definitely my favourite thing about the place. Be careful though - while they are free they often try to up sell you other things like con queso without mentioning that they are indeed, nonfree. I've tried a lot on the menu, and I'm not a huge fajita person so I can't really speak to them, but the shells are outstanding - super warm and fresh. I like their salads as well, mainly because they're massive and piled high with ingredients. This is a great spot to bring kids - it's noisy and fun with a total country vibe. I have been here a few times and verging on being a regular. As mentioned by other reviewers the sizzling fajitas are amazing. I have also had their pork ribs and the meat just melted off the bones into my mouth. The complimentary chips and salsa are a must to try and their nachos are probably the best restaurant nachos I have eaten. The kids menu offers a few options that you can find at other restaurants such as chicken fingers and fries but they are tried and tested and loved by at least two kids I know. The service has been great anytime I have gone. The atmosphere is fairly loud when busy but not too much to be annoying. The servers all seem full of energy and are friendly and helpful. The only criticisms I have would be that this location needs to be larger and that the wait times on the weekends can be a little long unless you get there early before 5:30pm. read more

I love Fajitas, and I particularly love fajitas from Lone Star. The tortilla wraps are so fresh and addictive, and the hot skillet serving up your veggies and meats smells so good as it approaches your table - and the food does not disappoint! Along with all the amazing smells and tastes, I must say that one of my favourite things about this restaurant (and all Lone Star locations) is the service. Ottawa, Kingston, new location or old, the staff hired to work at Lone Star are absolutely lovely. Always smiling, happy to help, do their best to accommodate almost any request, and will patiently listen to long-winded customer stories even during the busiest of times (and yet somehow, the food is always served promptly). I'm not a huge fan of "chain" restaurants, but the Lone Star seems to be in a category of it's own. I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone; couples, families, those with dietary restrictions (you can eat your fajitas in a lettuce wrap), and anyone looking for some good food and a fun experience. My experience here was really great. Came out a few days ago with my sister, fiance and grandma for my grandma's birthday. Our server's name was Dusty and he really went above and beyond. His service is definitely 5 stars. He was attentive and cracked jokes which made the experience very nice and friendly. As previously mentioned, their complimentary chips and salsa are great, and perfect for curbing your hunger while waiting for food. I had the Trio of Margaritas, lime, blue and strawberry flavoured, and they were all very excellent, their traditional blue being my favourite. The presentation was lovely, as well. We ordered the beef nachos as an appetizer and they were very good. Lots of toppings and came out quickly. I must mention that our nachos were free, as I had signed up for the lone star mailing list and got a free appetizer for that! My man and I shared the steak fajitas for two, which were great! My only complaint would be the portion of the fixings. All fajitas come with salsa, sour cream, lettuce and cheese, but small amounts. You can also choose two extra fixings, we chose the queso and refried beans which were excellent but came in relatively small cups. The amount of steak and sauteed veggies, however, was generous. My grandma and sister both ordered the cabo tacos that consisted of chicken, pico, a chili sauce, bacon, avocado, beans and cheese served with rice. You can choose two or three tacos. They both LOVED their meal and the portions were fantastic. At the end of the night the staff gathered around our table and did their birthday chant/song and it was very nice. I visited the Baseline & Fisher location. There is usually a wait, but I tend to go to the bar. Grabbed a seat and got a Corona. The neck was warm and the beer was not cold enough. Even though the ice bucket is kinda neat, I would suggest putting the beer in the fridge. It's hot out, and cold beer is delightful. I ordered fajitas and chips & salsa. Everything was fresh and tasty. Although somewhat delayed, I had finished the chips & salsa and was still waiting for my main. I'm usually served while still eating the opener. The place had been hopping but the tables were just flipping, so the kitchen may have been slammed. When the fajitas were served, I asked for a glass of water. It arrived 5 - 8 minutes later, I was at the bar remember... the server was definitely distracted, whether she had too many tables along with the bar, or maybe she was just not into her job, I don't know. The food was good, chicken perfectly cooked, toppings were fresh and mostly plentiful. The guacamole was just one wee scoop, I could have used another, but the server wasn't nearby. I asked for the lettuce wraps only, and they brought out tortillas as well, which I sent back (I eat gluten free/ low carb). But overall, I enjoyed my meal. Based on my last visit to Lone Star, I'm not a fan of this restaurant. We went on Father's Day, and admittedly it was very busy. But, service was quite slow, taking a long time to bring drinks and return for dessert. The food was pretty mediocre - I'm not sure what the fuss is about. It has grown into a semi-chain, but this is the original. Walk in the door and the first things you see are pictures of years gone by. Lone Star staff, pictures of celebrities etc. Your first steps in give the place a sense of character. The bar is the next exhibit and it is a nice one. It's long, full of taps and full of its own character. Random bumper stickers decorate the beer fridges as various lit up beer signs make the wall glow. It would almsot be cliche if it wasn't a place that had been around for years. The dining area is a good size with plenty of tables. There is also a section taht can be blocke doff for private parties and events. But the best part about the dining area is off to the side where the tortilla making machine is always on the go. What can I really sit here and say about the Lone Star? There is all too much to say about this place but doesn't really need to be said because saying "I'm going to the Lone Star" conjures up everything that the place is without describing it. The Lone Star opened a few years before I was born, and growing up in the Fisher Heights neighborhood directly behind it - I was a customer from a very young age. I can remember being 6 years old and sitting in the Willie Nelson booth with my mother and her friends. I can remember meeting my mother here after a long hard day at St. Rita's and have some fajitas that made everything alright. Time seems to stand still at this old roadhouse. With all the pictures up on the walls of the entrance of past staff and patrons from the 80's and 90's. The salsa is the exact same as it was when I was born 23 years ago - and I like it that way. I have since moved away from Ottawa - and everytime I come and visit - I can be found sitting at the bar having a cold pint, eating some great food, and remembering the different stages of my life which were spent enjoying my time at the Lone Star. read more

I don't really like fajitas so Lone Star for me kind of sucks. They have your basic Tex-Mex options like burritos, enchiladas, chimichangas and some other things like ribs and steaks. This place is really popular among my friends so I'm dragged here a lot, therefore I've tried their chicken burger, their burrito, chimichanga and enchiladas, none of which were good. It has a few things on the menu that are quite good though... For example the margaritas are fantastic, pricy but delicious. They also have great nachos and fresh salsa you can fill up. They also have a dessert called an apple sizzler which is one of my favorite desserts. The stuff I've ordered off their dinner menu deserves 1 star but the nachos, dessert and margaritas bump it up to 3 starts! If you are a fajita fan, all of my friends order them EVERY time they're there and they're apparently the best you can get. read more
