This should have been a better experience, based on the food, but overall it was disappointing. We arrived early on a Sunday morning, and there were maybe 15-20 other customers on the terrace occupying 6 tables. We were seated and greeted quickly, our beverages came out quickly, we ordered our breakfasts, and then we waited... and waited... and waited. I could see the kitchen pickup area from my seat, and I saw meals come out pretty slowly, maybe 1 or 2 at a time. These were delivered to tables as they came out, but I never any table get all of their meals at the same time. After about a 30 minute wait, when our waitress came over for refills (thankfully), she said our meals would come out "shortly." This wound up being more than 15 minutes more, and during that time she never came back over to us with updates or made eye contact. Once our meals did arrive, my meal was piping hot, but the other meal was lukewarm. I did see several other orders of my meal come up on the serving counter. It is possible that the kitchen was backed up, because customers seated after us got their meals in a much shorter amount of time. More likely, something happened to my order - possibly wrong or mis-delivered - and a backup order was needed. All the waitresses here were very young, and maybe they were not comfortable giving unpleasant updates about a meal problem. Personally, I would have preferred an update (I worked in restaurants years ago, I understand these things happen). SImply avoiding updates is, to me, a worse thing. Apart from meal #2 being lukewarm, everything else about our meals was good, quite enjoyable and filling. When we got our bill, I noticed that I was charged for coffee, even though the menu specifically said coffee was included. The waitress did not realize it was included, apologized, and corrected it. But there is no apparent rhyme or reason as to why certain menu items include free coffee or tea and others do not. It's too bad this happened, because for service otherwise, food quality, and restaurant location, it can be pretty good. read more

Hit and miss. If you like burgers in Canada, you'll probably find their burgers fine. To me, they are overcooked (as required by Canadian law) and lean. I don't like them. They have smash burgers on the menu online but no longer offer them. The fries are drenched in herbs. If this sounds good to you, you might like them. My wife does. I thought they were awful. I asked for fries without herbs, and the replacements they gave me still tasted so herby that I could not eat them. Did they use the same bowl or something? I'll never get fries there again. Service is slow. I waited 10 minutes to get my small water glass refilled. Finally I looked for my server and saw him watching a golf game on TV. The mac and cheese is my favourite thing on the menu. It took us a while to check out Occo. I couldn't figure out the menu but a friend was suggested it because it was close. I'd go back. Service was great! Food was pretty good. Fries were delicious! Food was pretty good and flavorful. They were not lacking on any toppings and I didn't feel like we were skimped on anything. The Donair sandwich had plenty of meat and veggies and poutine was delicious. My boyfriend got a burger with the occo salad, which came with strawberry popping boba. The mini nachos were very good and made a great appetizer to share. I'm not sure what kind of sour cream they use but it was the creamiest sour cream I've ever had and oddly enough, it was the highlight of the meal for me because I keep thinking about it days later. Delicious burger and the Newfie fries poutine (comes with dressing or stuffing instead of curds) were to die for that I ate at OCCO Restaurant while on a 2-day visit to Ottawa. I had a starter of Seafood Chowder and was delicious, rich and thick. This place has cool decor, great service and great beer selection too. I was influenced to eat there by Guy Fieri on DDD and so glad I did and hope to go back before long. read more

Foreign visitors, we came here because we'd missed breakfast in our hotel, it was Easter Friday and most places were closed. The server was young and inexperienced, raced ahead to the table, put the menus down and walked off. The tables were in a side part away from the main bar which made it feel like you were in a diner rather than a bar. When she came back to take our order she couldn't explain the difference in size between the small or large size seafood chowder. We ordered large seafood chowder and fish tacos. For the price, the seafood chowder was not particularly large and had a lot of potato but not much seafood, and came with a sweet tasting, small bread bun which wasn't a good combination for my taste. I've walked by OCCO Kitchen & Bar quite a few times this summer and every time, I'm intrigued by its décor. After hearing rave reviews about the Orleans location, I was very much looking forward to visiting the (more convenient) Downtown location. The modern décor did provide a nice ambience to the restaurant. Service was pretty prompt and cordial, although our waiter seemed a bit impatient when asked about his recommendations and when I first walked in, I made eye contact with 2 of the staff (waitresses?) who just looked at me but failed to greet me or direct me to a table. It was a bit awkward but the rest of the evening went fine. The food was alright but nothing to write home about. Most of the things on the menu felt like standard pub food with a minor twist and while I'm usually excited about "twists," these ones fell short for me. I got the OCCOnda Fries and a Pork Belly Taco while my friend got the Candied Bacon Cheese Burger. We both agreed that all of our food was a bit on the dry side with my friend, having been, concluding that the food she had at the Orleans location being better. The OCCOnda Fries, while not bad, were basically a more expensive version of one of NY Fries' poutines, but drier due to a lack of sauce. Similarly, the Pork Belly Taco wasn't bad but at that price point, I've had better. Overall, OCCO Kitchen & Bar is not bad but I probably won't return. read more

Had heard that this was one of the best burger places in the city of Ottawa so we went there specifically to try it out and it did not disappoint! Very juicy taste and delicious toppings and fries. The bacon was delicious as was their housemate ketchup! Friendly service and lots of seating inside so we didn't need to make a reservation ahead of time! A friend pointed me to OCCO - so ran out at lunch to get take-out. The space is beautifully done - great for larger groups, like co-workers celebrating a birthday or retirement. The service at Occo was amazing. The staff was helpful with the menu and beer choices. We split a salad that was fresh greens and boba! The make and cheese with sausage was delicious.
