Stop looking elsewhere. Richard at Dad's is the best in the area. He does a great job and is reasonably prices. Don't try to go to the location here on Yelp. Just call the number, leave a message and someone will call you back. Dad's is completely mobile, so everything they need is in the truck. Richard came to my new home and within 45 minutes, he replaced the locks for me and provided 4 keys. It was easy to schedule, convenient and timing and quick. Best part, Richard is so sweet. I had a few questions about potential spots to put locks and he was a great adviser. Doesn't try to sell anything I didn't need. And, gave me the feel goods about he beautiful lock hardware in my home. Don't know that I'll need him again, but I wish I did. He has great customer service. read more

I visited Dad's Locksmith a while back because I had a security lock on an external hard drive that was jammed. I could have sawed it off myself, but I didn't want to pay $75 to rent a tool from one of these home improvement places and, more importantly, I didn't want to damage the hard drive inside. I brought it to Dad's Locksmith because I knew they were local (more on that later) and wanted to support a local business. As I watched in amazement, in less than 2 minutes, the locksmith at the counter (didn't catch his name, unfortunately) had the lock completely dismantled. He thoroughly explained to me that most of these computer/personal electronics security locks had plastic components that were fairly easy to break off with some sturdy tools. For 2 minutes of work, he never charged me an exorbitant fee and he answered every question I had about those kinds of locks and what I should look for in lock when I buy my next one. Hands down, this is one of the best local locksmiths I've ever used. The guy (whose name I didn't catch) may be a little bit gruff in the beginning when you first see him, but he really is a friendly guy when you get to talkin' with him. There are tons of shady ones locksmiths out there, especially those listed in the Yellow Pages. They oftentimes pay off people to use their street address in the Yellow Pages listings so they can be seen as "local". But when you call them, they're all networked to a centralized call center in New York that will RIP YOU OFF. It pays to find a local locksmith with an actual physical location so you know who to call when you have a future locksmith emergency. These rip-off long-distance agencies prey on the vulnerable and jack up the price after they arrive. I would highly recommend Dad's Locksmith to anyone. read more

It's been around since before I was a child and I've come to consider this small business one of the anchors of the Downtown Danville area. The staff is friendly, knowledgable, and extremely helpful. They've always gone out of their way to go that extra mile to provide good olé fashioned customer service. You just won't find staff that accommodating to customer needs anywhere but a family owned business. In my opinion Dads Locksmith is very reasonably priced. Yes it's true that if you really wanted to cut coupons and wait in line bright and early on Black Friday you could buy a slightly cheaper lock at a big box store but it will be just that. You get what you pay for. You'll never find the same level of service and expertise at a big box store. I've yet to have a negative experience with their in home service. They are always reliable and On Time. That's hugely important to me when scheduling any sort of in home service appointment. If you're in the market for a new safe I would recommend you seriously consider Dads Locksmith. Go in and talk to Rich or Dylan. I was told to go to Dad's by the company who is refinishing our front door. We also want to change the hardware on our front door at the same time. I spoke with the owner and instead of selling me a $2,000+ lockset for our door, he suggested we take it to a place in Livermore to have it refinished. I didn't even know that was possible! He said it would be about $400. Anyone who is willing to save me $1,500+ gets 5 stars in my book! I'll use Dad's any time I have a lock or security need from now on! I used them about 2yrs ago to add 2 new key knobs and re-key one other lock so one key fits all. One key fit all OK but I was disappointed with the quality of both knobs and one knob has now broken and needs repair/replacement. Deciding to give Dad's another chance, I called back to have them repair the broken lock and add two deadbolts. They don't keep any records so I had to call back later when I could confirm the brand of lock. When I called back, I got another guy who wasn't the least bit helpful. Neither person was what I'd call "customer-focused". I figured this 2nd call was really strike 3 at this point (1 bad install and 2 negative phone calls) so it's off to choose another locksmith. Not too pleased with this company. I am a local Realtor who had difficulties ordering locks and dummy locks for a client's front door with Lowes. Decided to make my life easier by going to an expert. I was promised the special order item would arrive. It did not, nobody called. I made a trip down there and they said they would follow up and call me. After searching through Yelp! for the best deal and service... I decided to give Dad's Locksmith a try because my handyman (whom I do trust) recommended it. Price wise-expensive. Response to service-got an appointment quickly. Quality of service-I had the guy install front entry handle and back door dead-bolt. The guy asks me if I wanted to pay an extra $5 for a matching strike plate. I figured, "why not?" Problem is that when he left the house, not only did he leave a mess on my doorstep (he didn't have a broom or vacuum), the strike plate was loosely attached to the door jamb. When I contacted the store, Rich began accusing me of sabotaging the door jamb, stating that his guy did not mess up the jamb. Either the guy is a liar or the guy has no integrity. When I told the store that this was a new house that my wife and I just moved into and why would we (owners) sabotage our own door jamb, he changed his story saying that the jamb was not fixable and a carpenter is needed to fix it. At that point, I didn't bother arguing with him. He offered to pay back the $5 for the strike plate (if I drove to Danville-waste of time and gas). I don't understand why a locksmith who goes to people's homes to re-key and install locks would not have a broom or vacuum at hand. This is good customer service period. I had poor impression of this Locksmith and I definitely would not recommend this place due to price, quality and customer service. They don't go beyond for their customer but count every single penny because they are competing with other stores such as Home Depot, Lowe's and Ace Hardware. Their employee came over to install the handle and lock even asked me to hook him up with a job. That goes to show what kind of employers Dad's Locksmith are... case and point. read more

I recently used Dad's Locksmith to re-key the locks and install a new door lock and deadbolt on the house we just purchased. Rich gave me an estimate over the phone and told me what the various charges would be. He also let me know to check the various types of manufacture's locks (e.g. Schlage, Baldwin, etc) that were at the house and which would work with the same type of key. This allowed me to know which locks I would have to change out if I only wanted one type of key for the whole house. I then went to Home Depot and picked up a door knob / deadbolt set before hand and he installed it when he showed up. He arrived exactly on time, was courteous, professional, and had the job done within an hour. read more

UNRELIABLE - DESERVES TO GO OUT OF BUSINESS! I wasted 5 trips to Dad's in Danville. I was trying to replace a lock that is no longer made. First trip, I got there shortly after 1 PM on Saturday and Dad's was already closed (one hour wasted plus I had to re-install the lock). I went a 2nd time during the week. I got there at 9:45 AM. Posted hours say they open at 9:30 but there was no sign of life inside and they were not answering the phone. I was two hours late to work that day. I called the 3rd time and yes they were open. I showed them my old lock and the pieces I needed were no longer made so we talked about the options and none of which were great so I went home to think about it. We finally made the decision to replace all the entry locks to the house and I went back to Dad's a 4th time to get the four new locks I needed. They did not have "dummy knobs" for the non-operating doors but would order them. I got a call a few days later saying my ordered parts were now in. I tried to get there again during the week but could not get away from work before the weekend. Imagine my surprise when I pulled up on Saturday at 10:30 to find a note on the door saying the business was closed for the next two weeks so the owners could go on vacation. It sure would have been helpful to have that bit of information when I got the message on Thursday that my handles were in. I could have asked someone to pick up the locks for me. By this time the lock on my front door was completely non-functional. At this point, I went to a local ACE Hardware and bought new locks and had them all re-keyed. Normally, I like to try and do business with a local business, but this one is just not open when customers need them. My advice to others - GO ELSEWHERE! Don't waste your time like I did. read more

Went to Dad's when we wanted to install new hardware on our newly-finished front doors. They told me I could only use a specific size of handle set, but when I asked again about another size they told me that yet, I could actually use the size I wanted. Then I asked them if I should order it or if they would. They told me the one I wanted was discontinued and I should look for another handleset. I contacted the manufacturer myself and found out that it was still being made. I ordered online and had the handleset delivered to my house. I will not be using Dad's for the installation. Called them up, they got me an appt. the same day and came out on time......with no window to wait. The guy has a super dry sense of humor, says something without even a smile so you could misunderstand his humor easily but you could see he was an honest nice guy. I went to Dad's to check out a low profile doorknob for 2 interior bathroom doors. The current doorknobs stick out too far so the cabinet doors, in the bathrooms, won't open all the way. They had not a clue what I was talking about. I explained in simple terms, but they still didn't get it. I knew there was a 50/50 chance this wasn't going to work because I had called them and they didn't understand. So I just told them "apparently you don't have what I need" and walked out.
