Took over 30 minutes to get a Cobb salad and Chili. It was not that busy and the service was just ok. When the food came out, the Chili was cold. The Chicken on the Cobb salad was tough and not fresh. Ordered a Cuban sandwich and the fries were stale. I do not know how this restaurant is rated higher than a one. This place is very disappointing. I live within walking distance of Dad's so I was extremely excited when they opened, hoping to have a nice little spot with great food close by. I love cooking and have been to a lot of different restaurants and I love trying new places to eat, so I can appreciated good food and know what good food is. I am disappointed with the food and service EVERY TIME I go here, hoping the next time will be better. The only reason I have gone multiple times is because it's close and my wife like's the Dad's burger. Honestly that burger is mediocre at best, and I have never been wowed by anything else there. The onion rings are extremely greasy and usually come out burnt half the time or taste like they were cooked in really old reused oil. And the dipping sauce for these, which is also the sauce they smother the dad's burger in, is the worst "special sauce" I've had. It has literally no flavor and is extremely bland. I honestly think people go into this place and just expect it to be amazing because it was on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dive's, so they automatically think the food is good and are blinded by that lol. I have also heard from people that have been to this restaurant and the original one that was on DDD, and this one doesn't even come close to comparing to that one. Another thing that really bugs me about this place is that on the weekends they don't have their full lunch menu available until 2pm... Just the brunch menu. Which is completely ridiculous to me... Maybe you should start offering ALL your lunch items around umm....LUNCH. They have some serious adjustments that should be made to their food in order to live up to the DDD status. Made a second visit to Dad's. Ordered two turkey burgers and two sodas for $37.40, which included the tip. Extremely long wait with apologies every five minutes. Used the restroom while I waited - no toilet paper at all and a lady had her baby in the sink. I waited several minutes as she bathed the baby before I just reached for my own hand sanitizer. The burgers were so-so once they finally arrived. What finally got me mad was the waiter asking the male with me if he wanted more soda and not asking me when they were both empty. He got a filled glass and I didn't, even though we just received the burger and could use something to drink with it. Will never go back. read more

A terrible night here. We were asked if we would like to sit inside or outside. We chose outside because it is usually quieter and we planned on having some dinner conversation with our guests. After we were seated and had ordered, a school fund raiser party showed up with a ton of 5-7 year olds who were totally out of control. We couldn't hear each other over the noise and kids running and wrestling. We asked our server to speak to the parents, but that didn't happen. One of our party didn't receive their drink, or their meal. Three different employees came by to ask how everything was, and each was told that a meal had been missed. We finally got it when the rest of us were almost finished, and then had to ask again for the drink that had been ordered when we were seated. We talked to a manager after, and told her that we have 5 kids ourselves, but would never let them run around a restaurant like it was a playground. No exaggeration, it was that bad. I have video, but yelp only takes photos. So, if you're going to have fundraisers for young kids, don't be greedy and try to stuff some other people into the room for a miserable dinner. Block off that room for the event and let it be a Chucky Cheese zoo. Good for you allowing fundraising, but unforgivable of you to seat people in a playground without warning. Absolutely no excuse to not ask parents to restrain their kids, or offer to reseat us or comp our meals. I like your restaurant, but you absolutely need to fix this problem. The fundraisers need to have a room blocked off. Don't be greedy. read more

Not a bad place, but certainly not a destination. The tap list is solid, the food good, but at least in my experience recently, it was the slowest service for miles around. Seriously, I don't know what the servers were doing all the time they were not in the dining room. My fries were cold and dry and tough, as if they had been sitting around since the day before. Having been a regular at the Freeport Blvd. location for years, I was a little apprehensive before my first visit to their new location in Fair Oaks. How can you replicate the magic created at the original location? Well you can, and they have. If you like attentive and friendly service, delicious food, and a great bar, try this place one time and you'll be back for more. Sure, you hope to leave a restaurant satisfied with your food and the service. Dad's accomplishes that and so much more. Went on Saturday for a late brunch, sat outside on a very nice patio, spacious and shady, a great place to sit. Place was emptying out to where it was only us and another group outside, and inside was not crowded either. Typical Dad's fare, food is good, BUT... 30+ minutes from when we ordered our food until when we got it? I don't care what the waiter's excuse is, THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE! Been here 3 times and I love it. Went once after it first opened. Dishes: Cobb Salad and added steak, ordered medium rare. Loved that my steak was actually cooked medium rare. Sometimes the steak on salads is the left over end cuts and can be really sinewy, or not cooked properly. This was perfect. The salad was hearty, and the ranch was good. Fried Garbanzo beans; their version of a bar snack, or peanut. Salty, a little dry for me, but the boyfriend loved em. Onion rings; Holy fried onion donut! Not exactly sure how they get the batter like that, but they were delicious. Rich, huge, and good to share. Balsamic drizzle adds some nice acid to compliment the batter. Service was a little awkward, but they had only been open a month. Food was good enough to make me come back, and service has been improving each time. My boyfriend had the Dad's burger. Blue cheese and bacon crusted inside the patty, and it was cooked a perfect medium rare. 2nd time I had the cobb w/ steak again, very consistent. My friend and I shared the sauteed mushrooms; super simple, but I loved that they used shitakes instead of domestic shrooms. She had the chicken salad; she said it was really good; I used her spicy ranch sauce for extra dipping. We were waited on by a female bartender who made a banging French 75. I also had a sour ale, the pour was smaller, but sours are expensive, and I was just happy to find a bar that poured one! 3rd time, just a pit stop for an old fashioned and a mint julep. Delicious. Dad's kitchen has a laid back atmosphere, delicious food and great staff. I have been there twice now and both times was great! Sitting at the bar for dinner was a fun experience. The burgers, sandwiches, tacos and salads are great. Meatloaf is next for me! I don't drink beer, but the list of beers available is wonderful. I appreciate the ciders and mixed drinks. I went Dad's Kitchen with a friend for lunch yesterday, service was generally pretty good, however, I had to wait (because they forgot) for more napkins while I was eating the very messy featured guacamole burger, which I must say I only ate one half of because it wasn't very tasty :(. I love the vibe at the bar here and the food is always good. Great choice of craft bears and whiskeys. The outdoor seating area makes it a family favorite on a nice day. Kids love the street tacos for $2. My favorite dish is probably the meat loaf. Surprisingly, I prefer the standard 1/3 pound burger to the other two, which are huge. I have been there several times, but after the service I had on 4/26, it will be awhile before I go back. My wife has never been impressed with their food, but I like the burger and their coffee. The arrival service was great, food arrived fairly quickly, and there was 1 follow up visit, but that was it. I was never offered a refill on coffee, the waiter glanced at us a few times but was not paying attention ( it was 2:30 in the afternoon, they were not busy ). The waiter seemed very stressed , not sure why...and why do you let your waiters wear baseball hats !,. I normally do not post on Yelp, but their website does not allow you to contact them ( as near as I can tell ). I paid cash, and yes, left a crappy tip. read more

My family of three just had dinner at Dad's Kitchen on Sunset Ave Fair Oaks and hands down this was the worst food we have ever been served at any restaurant! We have eaten at many restaurants all over California and internationally and by far this is the worst! Burnt, greasy onion rings, mushrooms swimming in overheated butter/grease, unseasoned, tasteless carnitas street tacos, burnt over cooked cod tacos, tasteless signature Dad's hamburger! This restaurant, along with it's other locations, all are simply incredible. The classic American dishes, as well as the rustic mid-century ambiance make this location feel very welcoming and inviting. The French Dip here is, what I can only describe as incredible, just bursting with flavor. Even the most basic items on the menu, such as the Standard Burger, are perfected classics which far surpass meals at rivaling restaurants. The food, in general, has never been disappointing in flavor, quality, composition, or plating. The menu has a wide variety of plates, and the weekly specials menu always brings new and interesting FLAVORS to the table - quite literally. I can rely on this restaurant for most of my cravings, all the way from Street Tacos to cheesecake. To summarize; Dad's Kitchen is an incredible restaurant in all aspects, and you should absolutely come here often. read more

Arrived with a group of 14. Made a reservation a few days prior. I was not seated immediately but within 5 minutes or so. Meh. After one of the waitresses took our order, a brown one if I recall, she arrived with our order 6 minutes later: 2 baskets of greasy, grimy onion rings. They were really good. Although in short supply the rings were worth the $8 price tag. Despite the temperatures outside reaching above 100 degrees, the room we were seated was kept at a brisk 63. After asking the seemingly nice waitress to raise the temperature it seemed as though the temperature had dropped another few degrees. When she came by to collect our onion ring plates I flashed her my phone screen to let her know that I'm a yelper. She briskly returned to her dwelling and and the temperature slowly raised to a comfortable 72. After another 10 minutes or so our food was delivered by our waitress along with a nice young man who appeared to work in the kitchen. I ordered a Dads Burger done medium well with a side of fries. What I got was a Dads Burger done medium RARE with a side of POTATO STICKS. Neither my burger nor my fries were cooked thoroughly enough. I still ate them. And they turned out to be pretty good. In summary, the staff needed a little motivation to adequately meet my needs. The food I got is not what I asked for but was delicious non the less. Would I eat here again? Probably. We ate here about a month ago. Great food and service. We returned for dinner tonight. We went inside, it was not crowded, about 10 people. We set there for five minutes. 4 different service staff walked by our table during that time. Not one of them spoke to us or even, acknowledged us. They could have at least said just a minute but nothing was said. Two of them were standing near a service station, looked at us and did not even come over and ask if we wanted something to drink while we waiting. After almost 10 minutes, we left. We will not be back. Service is a big part of what makes a successful restaurant, not just the food. read more

Breakfast was awful. Burned omelet, cheese sprinkled on TOP, unmelted. Breakfast potatoes microwaved, hard, dry without anything else cooked with them, like onions or peppers. The "biscuit" was stale, dry inedible. French toast overlooked, dry, visually ugly and grey. Ick! read more

Came here with a friend visiting from Texas. As first timers, our server encouraged us to order Dad's burgers. My friend was a little reluctant because she doesn't normally care for bleu cheese.
