[potato salad ] i can tell it's made from scratch because it had bits of green bell peppers and it was delicious. 10/10 [medium sauce ] sweet with a little kick. I got a side of the HOT level and that made my scalp sweat a little but in a good way. I was still able to enjoy my meal after having it. Awesome stuff 10/10. [ Hot link ] beef and well seasoned. Thinly sliced 1/4 inch thick if you like that. I'd prefer thicker slices tbh. 8/10. [ Ribs ] smokey flavor and cooked just right with that competition style bite. Dad's BBQ has good flavor but they are soooooo inconsistent! Tonight, we spent $60 on (2) two way combos and a bowl of gumbo. My plate consisted of four ribs and tri-tip. Two rib pieces was all fat and the other two was all bone. The potato salad tasted "funny" ... like on the verge of spoiling. The beans and tri-tip was cool, but not enough to put a dent in my hunger pains. My husband was disappointed in the gumbo (no seafood). When you catch them on a good night .... It's good!! But the problem is that BBQ is too expensive to still be hungry with 1/2 your order inedible. I don't think I'll be gambling on Dad's again ... at least not anytime soon. read more

The green beans were from a can, sure they seasoned them and the flavor was good but they still have that canned bean texture, potato salad was ok and the ribs were ok but I expected better. This review is for their food truck that was situated at Rotator Taproom this past weekend. We ordered their fried catfish, fries, mac and cheese, and BBQ chicken. Generally speaking, the food was decent - specifically the catfish and mac and cheese. However the chicken was very dry. The 3 stars is due to the hit or miss of food, but also based on the vibe the person taking our order was giving. He was a bit short and unfriendly. The food and service here can really be hit or miss. I usually order the chicken, but more often than not, it ends up being pretty dry. There have been times when I've been impressed by the generous portions--like, wow, this is a lot of food! But other times, it feels like my plate is mostly scraps and bones. It's inconsistent. Never had pork n beans passed off as bbque beans and it's hot ass hell in there. It was 103 degrees outside and I waited outside. Also they sell room temperature sodas with no ice. Tried Dad's BBQ for the 3rd and final time. Ordered "Mama's Gumbo", some hot links and mild links, and a lb of tri-tip. Jumbo was an absolute joke. First off, it's $18 bucks for a cup, probably 12oz if I had to guess. Definitely on the higher price point. But I figured if it was good, it would be worth it. I understand the price of everything is up, and they have to make a profit. Not to mention, in the description, it shows the gumbo with lots of crab meat and shrimp and sausage, looks quite yummy. Also appears red in the pic. What I received was watery, green liquid. It's about 2" of rice on the bottom, and 3" of green "gumbo" on the top. Absolutely zero crab and shrimp, and 3 small pieces of sausage. Taste is mediocre at best. Also, there was a new girl working, preparing food, and she asked how to heat it to a coworker, who stated "I normally just microwave it". Thought that was strange, but maybe that's normal. Pics/video attached Next was the links. Got 2 hot and 1 mild. All three links were sliced when I got them, really really burnt on the outside, and drenched in bbq sauce. Like 1" of liquid bbq sauce in the small tray they come in. The sauce I'm sure was to either hide the burnt flavor, or to disguise the fact they probably weren't cooked that day. Either way, very disappointing. The tri-tip was decent, but also covered in bbq sauce and cut already into strips that were probably the height and width of a pencil. The sauce was okay, but kinda watery/thin. Only major complaint with the tri-tip, was that every thin strip had a lot of fat on each end of it. Some pieces had 1/4" of fat, some had a full 1" of fat on both ends. Some people prefer that, I don't care for it. All in all, for the items above, was $60 bucks, and fed 2 adults and a small child. I feel like if they cooked their food more fresh, it would be more desirable, more busy, more successful. Easier said than done, I know. But I was the only person in there for 10 minutes(food was prepared in that time). Hope they can make some minor changes, otherwise I'll continue to visit Kinders and other spots outside of the area. It's a little hit & miss for me but they satisfy the immediate need for fast BBQ. I like the medium sauce is on the hotter side but it was a bit spicier for some folks that I offered food to share. Dropped by on my way home for the first time today. Purchased 2 combo meals. Tri tip/chicken & ribs/sausage. Both meals were ordered with green beans and mac & cheese. The down and dirty: Meat: Not fresh, previously overcooked and refrigerated. Reheated and covered with a sauce when served in an attempt to mask their lack of pit skills.. (Sir, Would you like that sauce on the side?) Quality: Was given the fatty end cuts of the tri tip in lieu of slices. Flavor: Not there. Anyone with a Weber Original and charcoal can do better than this. On my way out with my order I asked the cook when they were going to get brisket on the menu, he stated that tri tip and brisket was the same thing... This is some good BBQ!! I come from Napa, CA and my dad is from Shreveport, Louisiana and he knows bbq and I have yet to find a comparable place and I found it here in Antioch! The tri tip was was delightful and had a perfect bark! The sausage was smoked to perfection with a nice char on the outside and super juicy. The chicken was amazing! It was not dried out like most places and the mild bbq sauce had such great flavor! The potato salad was amazing and had the perfect amount of Mayo and chopped boiled egg! The beans were good too! Nice and sweet in a thick sauce! The only disappointment on this plate was the cornbread muffin. It was burnt and dry! I expected better but maybe this was the off time to get a fresh cornbread? I wasn't impressed with this at all. All in all, if you want some great bbq with amazing sauce and the best flavors in town, I would highly recommend this place. This is the best bbq I've had in California. I was a little iffy on eating here because my bbq standards are pretty high as a North Carolinian but I was surprised and super satisfied with the food. It's the type of bbq that makes you dance afterwards because you enjoyed it so much. I came here on a Sunday with a group. They are only allowing to go order at the moment. When we walked in, there was only one person ahead of us, and it didn't take long to order. I had the entree which comes with a meat and two sides (but i added an extra side because I tend to overeat). I had the potato salad, baked beans and green beans. They ask if you want your sauce to be spicy or mild. The spicy is really spicy, really good. The potato salad was a tad bit peppery, but still really good. They give you a good two scoops. The baked beans are cooked with pork, but the meat is taken out before served. The greens are cooked with smoked turkey and I think it's made with fresh greens and not from a can. The green beans are cooked with potatoes and no meat. The green beans were very tasty, but my favorite side was the baked beans! I also tried the cornbread and it's alright. It's not sweet (because cornbread should NOT be sweet) but I didn't love it. As a try bbq spot, they give you slice bread--two slices of wheat bread. Yum! This is the second time I've tried Dad's. Both times the meat was cold. The potato salad isn't consistent, the 1st I liked it the 2nd time, no flavor. I received 3 tablespoons of very cold baked beans. I asked for medium sauce and received the sweetest sauce ever. The sweet potato pie filling was overly sugary. The pie crust wad flaky but had a weird after flavor taste leading me to believe that it may have been store bought or not made with butter. I think I'll pass on a third try. read more
