I wish this wasn't a two star review. I wish I had a better time, but I can't lie. I had such high expectations for Dadeo, and have been wishing to try it since I started my first year at the U. Unfortunately, tonight, I was surprisingly disappointed.
Went tonight with a friend, who had been there before. Decor was exactly how I imagined and was really quaint. I loved the booth style seats! Very nice and subtle touches here and there.
The biscuits were a good aperitif, and the jelly was interesting and unique. Wouldn't buy it in the store, but was something new to try.
We thought we'd start our meal off with the cajun calamari. I heard excellent reviews and I love a nice crispy calamari! But that's exactly what it was not. The calamari we got was soft and mushy - not even the littlest crisp to it. Some might even dare say it was soggy. My friend and I could barely eat half before the sogginess just got worse and we gave up.
I ordered the blackened chicken po'boy with potato hash and coleslaw. The 'hash' was more of a 'mash' to me, but I love mashed potatoes so that seemed good to me! The first few bites of the po'boy were good. The roll was really soft, chicken was extremely tender, but then the heat hit me. Normally I can tolerate a decent level of heat when it comes to food, but the heat from that chicken just didn't sit well with me. I couldn't taste anything after those first few bites. I ate the coleslaw to try and cool myself down, but I was only given probably less than a 1/4 cup worth of it, so it was gone fast. After another couple bites, and a cup of water, I tried the hash, and to my immediate surprise it was just as spicy as the po'boy. I understand that cajun was supposed to be spicy, but was unpleasantly surprised by how it settled in my mouth and stomach. I only finished about half the po'boy before I was turned off of the food. I had expected something different, which lead to my disappointment I suppose.
I had two disco lemonades and those were the highlight of my night. Probably the yummiest drink I've ever had at any establishment. I'd consider coming back for those alone!
Service was average, it took a while for them to clear some plates. I assume they're used to people licking their plates clean, but it just wasn't for me. One of the servers was actually really loud and obnoxious, and the one moment she came over, she seemed pretty aggressive, and that turned me off. Our actual server was great though! :)
I think I'll give Dadeo another chance and order different things next time, but I'll have to wait until this burning subsides. read more
