Located near my gym I was so excited to try this place. Lots of parking infornt of the store. Not busy at 5pm on a Tuesday. Called ahead of time and they said they could have it ready whenever I wanted - I asked for 25min (5pm exactly). I showed up early and it wasn't ready until 5pm as prescheduled. Staff weren't exactly friendly but seemed nice as they made conversation with each other while I waited for my order. Cool place with great decor. Food had to survive 25min drive home. $55 Memphis Feast includes - potato salad, coleslaw, beans, BBQ sauce, fries, 3 slices cornbread Pulled pork was dry but they gave a Huge tub of BBQ sauce as a side. Ribs, rib tips, brisket, and chicken were great. Very moist. Beans were the best. Fries were a little soggy likely from the drive. Cornbread was sadly not to my liking - didn't appear to have any real corn and was more gummy than crumbly. Potato salad was surprisingly good - had a splash of ?mustard that gave it a great tang. Everything was pretty good. However it was FREEZING in the restaurant. I wish we could develop a list of restaurants that keep a comfortable temperature in their establishment. I would avoid this place in the winter. Not great ambiance. Really wide and kinda non descript. Great selection on the menu. They do a tonne of smoked meats and some fish dishes too which is great. I went with the fish platter which included shrimp, calamari, and catfish with a side of coleslaw. Food was excellent in taste, although the calamari was overcooked. The portions are generous. The potato salad was bland. Can't comment on the beans or the cornbread as neither were Gluten-free. Their bbq sauces are not Gluten-free so my only option was mustard. Stopped by with the family on a Saturday evening. We were greeted at the door by the owner and he was incredibly welcoming. He explained the menu and answered any questions that we had. We enjoyed take out this weekend and everyone enjoyed it. We ordered the Elvis platter and just to be sure there was enough food, ordered a couple of extra meals. There was absolutely more than enough! The ribs were fall off the bone tender, fries well seasoned, brisket crunchy in the right spots and I could go on. The only thing I noticed was that some sides that used to be not so spicy, were this time. The coleslaw and potato salad had a kick which I didn't mind but was hard on my mom. Tried to order the turkey and fixins for Christmas as we have done at the Millwoods location for the past four years. Get there to pick it up and there's NO stuffing... we were given cranberry sauce "free" and were told we had needed to order the fixins... In my message with Malik I clearly stated "turkey and fixins please". I contacted MB after and was told they would "look into it" but it seems I have been ghosted and have gotten zero response. SUPER disappointing, the Millwoods location obviously is more organized for their Christmas dinners. We asked how much longer no apology just a smart ass remark 10-15mins more. We walked out. 3 others who arrived 10-15 mins after us fed before us. Now the food was delicious ribs were perfectly smoked, sausage was on point and a huge helping. By the way the mustard sauce is also a great addition. Three sides, creamy slaw, potato salad ( almost like homemade; not from a prepackaged carton) and baked beans, just hit the spot, plus warm cornbread. You better be hungry when you order the meal. My husband and I were planning on ordering pizza for pick up while travelling to Edmonton. I was put on hold for so long that we decided to go for barbeque instead. We made an excellent choice! The restaurant is very casual and the drink refills are self-serve. The menu had a variety of options from single dishes to feasts for up to 10 people. The decor is blues based and music reflects the mood. My husband ordered the brisket sandwich and I ordered the pulled chicken sandwich. We both chose beans and slaw as our side and fresh lemonade to drink. Both sandwiches were excellent. The chicken and brisket were melt in your mouth. I opted for the tangy sauce provided at the table. Yummy! A very cool spot. Lots of parking in the area and its tucked a little ways into the area. With two entrances and a patio, and quite a bit of seating inside I wouldn't worry about finding a place to sit. We did notice there seemed to only be one guy doing all the cooking and so our food was a bit slow to come out. We ordered the nachos to start- with pulled pork on top they were very tasty and I'm glad we ordered them up first. Some other items we ordered an dour thoughts: cat fish salad- very good and 2 tasty sauces to compliment. Rib tip sandwich- wasn't enjoyed as much. Soup of the day and cornbread- very tasty and a little spicy gave it a nice kick. Cornbread- a delight. Combo platter- the ribs had such a nice sauce with a molasses taste and the meat just fell off the bones. They did have some unique beers as well which was a nice treat. Cool items to look at around the venue itself- hilarious meat pun shirts, a giant guitar on the ceiling, etc it helped to keep us entertained. All in all a neat and worthwhile place to check out order their platters in. We have done that before in the past and we enjoyed the platters from home. read more

Shared the feast ($55) which was every type of meat and sides....it says it serves 2-3 and I'm pretty sure it could serve double that and still be very satisfying. We had leftovers for days! The sides: 1) potato salad, which I didn't love since all I could taste was salt, but my dining companions liked it. 2) corn bread was very dry and boring - we actually left these on the plate. 3) coleslaw was ok, with thick cut cabbage and lots of dressing. 4) fries had a really great seasoning and were hot and crispy. Meats: 1) ribs were tender but still had a bit of bite, which I really liked since I don't love them super soft and falling off the bone. 2) chicken which came out in two large quarters - very tender and moist. 3) pulled pork was my favourite and smoky tasting. 4) rib ends were good; basically half the size of regular ribs. 5) brisket was very tender and flavourful. 6) sausage was delicious and not too salty or fatty - we really liked it! The platter came with a portion of BBQ sauce which tasted a bit sweet and a bit smoky. There was a bottle on the table of a spicier but less flavourful sauce. We mixed them together and it was perfect! It's a bit of a self serve place where you order at the counter, then sit down. There is a station with take out containers to pack things up yourself. Service was friendly but pretty hands off. I'd go back for the sausage and the pulled pork - those were by far my favourites. read more

Why is good BBQ so hard to find in town? On a friend's recommendation, we decided to check out Memphis Blues Barbeque House's newest location waaaaaaaay up on the north side. They have two other locations (Milwoods and Sherwood Park), which I've never been to or heard of until now. They claim to be authentic, southern style barbeque house. We dropped by for lunch on a sunny Thursday and the place had a few tables occupied. Looks like a lot of construction workers drop by for take-out. They're located in the same strip mall area as Halong Bay Noodle House. The inside is clean and spacious with two doors/ways to get into the restaurant. The menu is split mainly into sandwiches, meals and platters. Holy jeebus, the platters are expensive. $179.95 for the Priscilla platter, that better feed a kingdom! Having just ate at MEAT the day before (BBQ back to back just happened), I was hoping for their authentic claims to ring true. - Calamari po'boy ($12.95) - comes with one side (choice of BBQ pit beans, slaw or fries). We went with fries for our po'boy. The calamari portion looked meager but it was tasty. I wish they warmed up and toasted the bun though. Small, simple things like that would make things so much better. The fries weren't anything special as it lacked any real crispy texture. - Barbeque chicken meal ($18.95) - came with corn bread, BBQ pit beans, slaw and choice of potato salad or fries (we went with potato salad). The portion of BBQ chicken was quite generous with a mix of wings, drumsticks and thighs. The smaller pieces were flavourful and tender but once we go to the bigger pieces (aka. the white meat), it was another story. The meat was dry. Gross. Nowhere near being authentic. The sides were hit and miss - corn bread was SUPER dry (Super Dry) and tasteless, pit beans were decent but the slaw and potato salad was a bit better. Overall, Memphis Blues was okay but I can't see myself going back anytime soon. The meat was dry and everything just screams mediocre-ness. True, I didn't try everything a la meat sampler style, but from what we ate, I get the it's your typical average Edmonton restaurant. read more

We were having a Cowboy themed Christmas party and were looking for someone to provide a BBQ supper. Our social committee went to Memphis Blues for lunch to try it out. They loved it! We talked to the owner Justin and he gave us lots of good advice on the selection we should choose for the party. You can tell that Justin has a passion for BBQ and wants everyone to be 100% satisfied. The night of the party Justin came with the food and set everything out on the table for us. We had it buffet style with brisket, pulled pork, smoked chicken, baked beans, potato salad, corn bread and salads. It was an absolute hit with the staff and their dates. People were going back for thirds. We still had lots of food at the end of the night so we put the leftovers in our fridge at work. People were still eating BBQ three days after the event. We went to Memphis blues barbecue on the northside today and it was truly amazing!! My wife and I had the brisket and I never tasted anything so good. We go out to eat quite often and this is one place that we will definitely return to. We live on the far south side of Edmonton and we will definitely travel all the way to the north for this restaurant. As for the food all I can say is wow truly amazing!! The owner was there when we went for lunch and he was great to deal with. He knew what he was talking about he explained how many of the items are done and I couldn't believe it when he said everything was made in house. It was our first time to this barbecue house and the owner even brought us samples of different things on the menu at no charge. He was so friendly we wanted to ask him to join us for lunch LOL. I am very hard to please and this barbecue house exceeded any and all expectations!! I noticed some bad reviews on this place, the only thing I could think of is some people just don't really know what Southern barbecue is all about. read more

The place is under new ownership. Service is friendly faast and helpful. Food is MUCH better than previous. Meat is not as heavily smoked and the cuts are far moister. Tried there sampler plate for two. Has all the meats and all the sides they serve. About $55 bucks and way more food than the two of us could eat. Brisket was GREAT, as were the Ribs, Chicken was good and so was the pulled pork. I liked the corn bread, and they now have honey, but the rest of the sides could use some development in the flavour area. The beans and coleslaw were ok but not spectacular and the rest of the sides lacked a real good flavour profile too.. I will definitely go back but I still think this place needs to add burgers, steak etc to round out the menu so the non-BBQ fanatics have some choices as well. read more

I have been eyeing this place for years. I finally went in a few days ago and I was SO disappointed. I've never had a bad brisket. I usually go for brisket at Meat just off Whyte Ave. And it is delectable there!!! This was obviously pre-cooked. I actually saw them remove it from the warmer in plastic wrap. The fries were great. But everything else...the cornbread, the coleslaw, the beans were all obviously batched cooked and some point, sat for awhile and then heated up not freshly cooked. Sorely disappointed. Went for lunch and was very pleasantly surprised. Brother and I usually go to another BBQ place but decided to try something new. I had the BBQ beef ends and he had the brisket sandwich. We were both happy with our choices. The meat was flavorful and tender; but the sauce was a little over powering. Not quite the flavor we were used to but we would go back for more. The coleslaw was good -- now covered with a ton of mayo. Beans had some meat in them and a little different flavor from the BBQ sauce -- good choice. Growing up in the states, I have had my share of bbq. It differs from region to region, I like some of them and dislike some of them. So living in Edmonton, I do still like to visit the occasional bbq joint to refresh my memory of how good bbq meats taste. Well, visiting Memphis Blues did not do that. I arrived for a late lunch, it was shortly after the lunch hour but not overly so. The waitress (she is all alone) on duty could not be any less enthusiastic about serving us. Most of the tables were dirty but I saw no one cleaning up. We sat there for almost 30 min. waiting for our food watching some generic sports show on TV when we are the only table in the whole place. Oh well, you don't go to a bbq joint for the service, you go there for the food! I order the beef brisket platter. A simple sandwich wouldnt do, I wanted meat, a big pile of meat; that why I was there. When the food arrived eventually arrived, disappointment! There was no big pile of meat, for a $21 platter, there was less meat than most other bbq joints sandwich. My buddy's sandwich was even more disappointment, less meat than a McDonald's kids meal burger on a totally uninspiring generic bun for $13. Okay, the quantity wasnt there but may be it tasted amazing. Another disappointment, the fries were room temperature and limp, the coleslaw room temperature and yuk, the beans tasted like it came straight out of a room temperature can (it fact, it is so watery that I am certain that it came straight out of a room temperature can); what was the common theme? Everything tasted like it was assembled on a room temperature assembly line using pre-assembled room temperature ingredients. The worst was the cornbread, so dry, it definitely have been cubed and sitting out for a long time. BUT what about the brisket? I know, I know, I am at a Memphis joint, shouldnt order the beef but I did, sorry about that. The meat itself was okay, it was tender enough, It appears to have enough fat (hey, YOU NEED FAT in bbq, that is a given). Turn off those calorie counters when you go to a bbq joint because the two simply dont go together. But it tasted dry, it tasted like it has been sitting for a long time under a lamp, it simply dried up. I guess, I should have turned off the sodium counter too, because the thing as a salt bomb, so many burnt pieces and they were SALTY. There were some good pieces in the pile but way too many burnt pieces for the meal to be truly delightful. And then there is the sauce. Memphis sauce is suppose to be a simple vinegar/mustard based with a bit of a twang and smoke! It is not a thick sauce like other regions. The sauce at this restaurant has twang but nothing else, no depth, no smoke. Very disappointed. The food here is simply not up to the standard of calling itself a bbq specialty place. The staffs also must learn that hot food is supposed to be served hot and cold food is supposed to be served cold; serving everything at room temperature is simply not acceptable and not to mention, potentially dangerous. It may have been an off day, I may eventually brave another attempt. In the meantime, probably will not be returning. read more

Went on a Sunday evening and picked up take-out, there were people left loitering in the entryway for over 5 minutes before a waitress took the time to notice that they might need directions on taking a table. I purchased the Pulled Pork platter and the Beef Brisket platter, when I got the food home, I opened the bags to discover that the corn bread was missing and I called the restaurant. The waitress gave me simpering apologies that they were "sorry" but they were REALLY busy... there were 4 tables occupied, that is not busy. Then I asked to speak to the manager and got more of the same, which I really didn't want to hear.... lesson learned check your order before you leave. Now on to the food, the pulled pork is a bit dry and the brisket was too fatty, the portion size for both is small for what you pay for. I didn't get fries as this was a take out order and the fries would have been cold by the time I got home so I got the potato salad that was so salty it was not edible. The cold slaw that came with the meal was limp and flavourless and the beans tasted like they came out of a can and had BBQ sauce added to it. I can't comment on the corn bread because I didn't get any. Conclusion.... skip this place, there are much better BBQ restaurants in Edmonton. Try one of those first! read more

Came here for the first time tonight with my son (14yr old). The waiter explained the "good" stuff (it's ALL good, but he told us of the popular items). We ordered the fire dusted calamari, brisket and ribs. OMG! Everything we tried was amazing, including the home made mustard. Meals came with slaw, BBQ beans, cornbread and choice of fries/potato salad. We just found our new BBQ place! So decided to try out Memphis Blues BBQ House, as we noticed it was being built, as we live and shop in the area. Upon entering we got a instant vibe for the type of eatery it was, very Americana pit stop type feel, with a Canadians take on Southern Americana. The walls were covered in all types of Southern American musical influences. When you enter you have seating to the left and to the centre, there is a cash register and employee to take your order. To the right is a fridge unit where you can get some soda, we opted for delicious Boylan sodas. There are two menus in the location. Above the ordering area is the food menu while off to the right, above the fridge, is their alcohol menu. Let me say that if you are a fan of bourbon, this is the place for you! HUGE bourbon selection of all types. My wife and I were in the mood for fish so we grabbed the fried catfish po'boy. It came with their BBQ Pit Beans and slaw. The catfish was nicely breaded/seasoned and the actual fish was delicious. Our one year old son even LOVED the beans and the fish that we almost had to buy a third po'boy just for him. Memphis Blues BBQ House is not quite a fast food place, nor is it a typical restaurant. It comes with a higher price tag than a typical fast food place. Yet you don't have the ultra heavy customer service you get in proper sit down restaurants. I will say though that the gentleman bringing the food to the tables was very nice and gave the right amount of customer service I like. That being the kind where they allow you to eat in peace instead of hovering all over you. He offered water as well as various other typical server expectations, but wasn't over-bearing with it. All in all it is a great addition to the area to combat the generic fast food options that plague the Albany/Newcastle area. We will DEFINITELY be back. read more

We came here for my mom's birthday, and everyone was pretty excited as we had heard great things. I wish it would have lived up to expectations. No one in our party had been to the restaurant, or any of it's other locations, so no one knew what to do. We weren't greeted by anyone (and there were at least 4 servers/wait staff standing at the counter talking). I had to stop a girl and ask if we seat ourselves or wait to be seated. We had a party of 5, and there was no space available (it is a very small space for what it is, more the size of "to-go" restaurant like subway or pita pit). We finally got a table, and again, as we had no idea how the place worked we had to stop someone and ask if someone takes our order or we order ourselves. My dad had a question about the catfish and the girl helping us said "I don't know, I'm not really good at explaining stuff...". Eventually we went up to order, had to grab a pitcher of water ourselves, since we had STILL not even been served the bare minimum of water to everyone. Even getting the food to customers was a chore. Since there are no table numbers or anything (like at Famoso, where this formula actually works) they ended up just calling out people names. Except there were two Debbie's and two different Brad's and peoples orders kept getting confused. Eventually we got the correct order at our table and by that time we had already been underwhelmed by everything else. The food was just okay, not bad, but not anything to rave about. I had the pulled pork sandwich (which was not "smothered" in bbq sauce as the menu suggests, more like a sad little squirt of bbq sauce), corn bread was more salty than anything else and the fries were actually so salty they were hardly edible (except the one batch that must have been deep fried with the catfish, because those ones did have a certain fishy flavour that masked the salt). We had never been to Memphis blues before, and decided to give it a whirl. Needless to say, we won't be coming back. When we walked in, we were not immediately seated, instead, we stood in line, assuming you had to order food at the counter. When we were finally seated, and the drink orders were taken, we waited quite a while to actually get drinks. How long do iced tea and water take? As the waitress came to take our orders, one member of our party was hoping to substitute the beans for one of the other sides, but the server attempted to explain that "You can't substitute beans" and offered to bring the manager out for the same complaint. Our table was later told by the manager that beans can't be substituted because "It's a franchise thing" and offered an insincere apology. As for the food, it was sub par. The brisket came in large, fatty chunks and was not served with BBQ sauce, the fries tasted like eating out of a bag of salt with a spoon, as did the rub on the brisket, the coleslaw and the beans. The only thing that wasn't salty was the cornbread, and it seemed extra mushy. I definitely wouldn't recommend. read more

Had the catfish po'boy and my wife had the pulled pork. Buns were cold and the catfish was clearly a frozen pre-battered product. The side dishes were coleslaw which was bland and the baked beans tasted like they were from a can. We ate here before once and it seemed better. I know the brisket was! Also when your meal is done we weren't presented a cheque and a waitress finally noticed us looking awkward and told us to pay at the cash register. Looking for good BBQ in Edmonton? I'd love to comment on the food here, it looked and smelled delicious....but that's the closet I ever came to getting any. My wife and I had never been here before, and always wanted to try it. We arrived on a busy Saturday but we're greeted by a guy behind the counter. We were told to grab a table that was close by. We liked over the menu and decided on some food. So we waited......and waited......and waited. Nearly 20 mins as waitresses walked around us and a bus wan was near by clearing tables. After nearly waiting a half hour my wife asked the bus girl how long it would take to get an order taken. In a rude tone she said "We're busy, it'll be faster if you order at the counter".....and she just walked away. This ticked me off. We know some places you have to order at the counter. That's not the issue. We sat there for 30 mins and the guy that greeted us from behind he counter could easily told us to come up and order when ready. Or that bus girl could have been nicer. We ended up walking out as it was clear customer service was being tossed out the window that day. The only plus to this visit was it allowed us to find a great Lebanese place nearby. You need someone here during busy times to greet people, offer assistance with menus, and show some customer service. read more

Because my man was excited about the photo of a meat platter on the SUTP coupon, we had dinner here tonight. I had actually never even heard of this place until I saw it in the coupon book. I'm definitely glad we tried it! As others have said, it wasn't overly cheap but I personally thought you got your moneys worth. The environment was fun and it seemed as though the service staff didn't have set sections, so they all help you. They were very friendly tonight, great service! We got the platter with all the different kinds of meat and it was SO much food! We took over half of it home (they have a little section where you can pack your food yourself - I liked that!), but it was delicious! I don't mean to generalize, but I felt like this place was a mans dream! ;) Memphis Barbeque - I do agree with the review that your corn bread was very dry (so sad, I was looking forward to that!), but the beans were AWESOME! Potato salad, coleslaw, and fries were good too. I think I'm going to be craving vegetables all day tomorrow, but I would definitely come back again! The service has declined, and the food isn't what it was on our initial visit. They seem more disorganized, not less, which doesn't make sense to me. Sigh. For the prices, and with the lacklustre sauce selection, combined with the high quality BBQ we get at home, I don't know that we will be frequent fliers. read more
