Visited Smoke BBQ + Bar just before an Oilers game--needless to say, it was busy. Despite the rush, we were seated right away, which was a great start. We ordered the fish tacos, brisket, and a chicken sandwich with fries. While the food took over 20 minutes to arrive and drinks were slow as well, the quality of most dishes made up for the wait. The fish tacos were outstanding--perfectly cooked with just the right amount of spice. If you're going, these are an absolute must-try. The brisket was also cooked to perfection and packed with amazing flavour. The chicken sandwich was decent; the chicken itself was moist, but the breading was overcooked, which affected the overall taste. That said, the fries served with it were fantastic. Overall, the brisket, fries, and fish tacos more than made up for the slow service and the slightly disappointing chicken sandwich. No good parking. Waitress was nice but place was busy so it was slow. Burnt ends were good but pretty fatty. Sliders were 9/10. Potato salad was 10/10. Corn muffin was 9/10 no real corn in it. Overall I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. Lots of tvs to watch the game too! Very dark where we sat - no windows no sun. Nice location close to hockey rink and hotel/mall. Had to sit at the bar even though I didn't really want to. But I was solo so I get it. Unfortunately my seat was right by the open-door bathrooms and it smelled like piss/cleaner. Food was really good though, ton of different sauce flavors, and bartenders were friendly. Went here before a concert. We're greeted really friendly and sat right away. I will say our service was awesome it's one of the only reasons I would go back. Our portions were weird. My friend ordered the beef brisket it was 4 pieces of brisket on a metal tray. No side not even a slaw. The beef brisket was also not very well smoked. No smoke ring, no crust (if you smoke you know). I had the garlic Parm ribs and they were good but I think they would be better shared. I will say we didn't wait to be asked for another round. I did wait with my empty glass but she was already on here way with another The atmosphere is what you would think before a 50 cent concert they did have good tunes playing kind of getting you hyped. This place must be new, I've lived in YEG for 40 years and always thought this was a shanty corner of town. I have been gladly schooled today and learned that this is not the case! My nursing buddy recommended this venue since there was a HCW promotion for January 2022 posted on their Instagram. Parking is standard for downtown, we went on a non-game night on Sunday evening which means free street parking. This place looks unassuming on the outside, but once you enter, it can easily compete with the neighbouring restaurants on the same strip. Decor is rustic but classy modern, dimly lit but clean and not overcrowded and spaced well between parties. There's also coat hangers for your coats if your table is close to a column or wall or even right underneath the bar counter at your seat. There's also USB adapters under the bar counter seating too... very well designed in my opinion. Service was great too! You can make advance reservations online via open table app. And vaccine QR codes and ID are inspected upon entry. The servers were lovely and very attentive, they were even able to accommodate re-seating us to a booth since I was having trouble balancing on a barstool with all my winter gear and purse on my lap. I believe we even met the manager/owner who noted to have worked with food distribution with Covenant health prior to this business. I'm glad he took the leap with this restaurant bar because the food is amazing here! Didn't take long for the food to arrive either and the portions are well matched to the prices. I had a meat wagon with lemon pie and it was bliss! I couldn't finish the main course (cuz 1lb is actually a lot of meat) also each meat in the sandwich was very distinct in flavour- it was like an all in one meat sampler and perfectly cooked as well! Their fries were something absolutely new to me, they almost looked like mini churros and were very crispy but soft on the inside and nicely seasoned. Thank goodness they have takeout boxes for leftovers so I had room to eat dessert. I also tried the beignets with the Dulce de leche sauce which was hot & fresh and so delicious. The lemon pie was also a lighter & refreshing to balance all the heavy meat. All in all, I had a great time with amazing food and I'm happy this local gem was introduced to me. Food was mediocre at best small portion sizes for the money. CFR event Smoke should have been better prepared. Many menu items were not available cole slaw , jalapeño poppers Rye whiskey at 5 pm on a Saturday. Staff was friendly but not enough people on shift had to flag down our server to get service IE wings were cold when they arrived items ordered never arrived and then told were out when we requested the missing items. Had to flag server to order more drinks and then drinks took along time even when place was not full. I don't recommend Smoke BBQ too bad as place looked good. read more

Very disappointed in this place compared to previously when it was Rub'd. They have the same sauces and it seems like the menu is similar. But the prices have increased while the portion sizes have decreased. Now you get three tiny pieces of brisket for$15 before that you could get a meal with a side and some fries for $21. They also changed the size of the cornbread so instead of getting a square loaf you get a smaller cupcake size. And they don't have any honey butter or at least we didn't get any in our order. They also used to have full coiled ring of sausage where you would have twice the amount of meat. Now they give you a single link that's maybe 4 inches. The food is OK. But knowing how much better it was before makes this place disappointing in comparison. read more

Service was pleasant and friendly. The sides (we had coleslaw, baked beans, and mac & cheese) were delicious. The meat? Not so much as it's supposed to be the star. I question how the meat is smoked as the brisket had no smoke ring (still tasty, though) and the chicken meat was white. Smoked poultry has a pinkish tinge. Ordered dark chicken with dry rub. Was served white, DRY AF. Told the server, and was brought dark meat slathered in sauce, straight from the refrigerator, I mean COLD, not room temp. Sent that back and was served the SAME piece only slightly warmer on the outside. The ladies room was horrendous, no toilet paper, one stall out of order, one doesn't lock, no paper towel, no hand dryer, just a filthy mess. To be fair, we were given a discount, but still, not a great experience and I wouldn't recommend until they improve. read more

We visited this hip, happening location during the Edmonton Oilers play-off run. The place was a buzz with people who were truly enjoying themselves. The servers were extremely knowledgeable about their menu and made all the right suggestions, which helped us enjoy the BBQ experience. Their brisket was smoked to perfection and had the perfect amount of bark, yet the meat was tender and juicy. This venue was surprisingly a trendy place located in an older building but such a fun place to be. read more

It was just ok. Food tasted ok but the portion sizes were very small. Not worth the price.

The good: the beans, dirty rice and the coleslaw. The meh: potato salad, lovely dressing but deep fried potatoes in potato salad; eeks! That's a taking a dump in my MeeMaw's salad. The bad: I tell ya', the monstrous blobs of fat in that brisket. Pretty sure that brisket came off of the winner of 2022 Fat Bear contest. And I pity the tough old meatless pig who died for my meal. Saturday night was my first time out in a couple of years and I knew nothing about what's happening in Edmonton. I briefly visited 6 places downtown before I landed in the warm haven that is Smoke at the corner of 103 Ave and 103 Street. Here was the best customer service I can even ever remember receiving. This bar has been completely transformed from the dance club that it once was, to the coziest and classiest restaurant/bar in downtown Edmonton! When I say the food is out of this world, I am not exaggerating. Having grown up on a beef based farm all my life, I have always been surrounded by beef, pork and all things BBQ; but the food this kitchen produced is some of the best I have ever had! The brisket literally melts in your mouth, the pulled pork is the perfect amount of sweet and smoky, and the sauces will leave you needing to come back to try more! Don't even get me started on the mac&cheese or the fries (seriously the BEST EVER)! The menu is unique, diverse, and will leave you feeling truly satisfied (possibly more than your Grandpa's grilling does). The cocktails are truly one of a kind...
