Table set up- menus, buns and gloves! No utensils here!
    Sophia H.

My husband and I were looking for a fun date night and I've wanted to try this place for a while, so the timing finally worked out! When we arrived a very chipper host told us about a short waiting list and offered to take our cell number and call when a table was ready if we didn't want to sit and wait. Our table was ready in about 10 minutes. The table was set up with a table cloth of more or less cardboard paper towel, two sailor themed bibs and two pairs of gloves! We ordered the sangria to share and our waiter explained how the menu works and our options for ordering. We decided on shrimp, with the captains spice, and medium heat with the corn and upgraded for $3.50 okra. My hubby ordered the muscles with the garlic and again medium spice but with rice and upgraded for broccoli. Our food arrived with in 10-15 min and was piping hot! We put on our gloves and thoughoughly enjoyed the different dinning experience! The food itself had great flavour- mine especially with the captains spice and a medium choice had a nice level of heat!! It took a little while after we were done to get out bill but nothing too troublesome and we still had sangria to enjoy. Overal experience was a lot of fun and tasty food! definatly reccomend for a fun date night or dinner with friends- even for a group of you plan ahead as space is limited!

First time at this branch and had dinner with friends and our experienced was very good. The place was very busy so we waited 40 minutes to get seated. Staff are friendly and attentive. The food was very good and the sauce was perfect. Serving time is okay. The place doesn't have a hand washing area so you have to go all the way to washroom to wash your hands.

This is a super fun date night or family dinner! Various seafood from crawfish and shrimp to crab and lobster are boiled and served in biodegradable bags with your choice of sauce and heat. Add in some veggies, or sides like the delicious Cajun seafood rice. No utensils here! Slap on your bib and gloves and get to cracking! Price is anywhere from $16-$50+ for the seafood. Snow crab is $28, and the day I went king crab market price was $55 for a massive leg. Honestly very fair pricing for the quantity. And if you go with someone who doesn't like seafood, they do have a couple chicken options! For a fun evening out, you won't be disappointed at Captain's Boil! I can't wait to return.

Mussels, Captain's Boil flavour, medium spice

Mixed review coming up from the boyfriend and I: The boyfriend loved it. He's a seafood lover. I'm kind of the wrong person to actually review this place, so take MY thoughts with a grain of salt. Boyfriend: -Had Mussels (Captain's Boil flavour; medium spice) -We shared the Seafood Fried Rice as a side. -Quote: "Best mussels I've ever had... but there's no way this is at all healthy... So. Much. Oil. " -He loved the concept of getting the food in a bag and eating it right out of the bags using gloves. -He loooooved the "Captain's Boil" flavour. He thought it was delicious. Me: -Had the Chicken Slices (Captains Bool flavour; medium spice) -So slimy that I questioned whether it was cooked. -Some bites had me genuinely concerned due to the rubbery texture, as it seemed not well-cooked. -So. Much. Oil. -I told the boyfriend that if he wants to return he should take his buddies, who are seafood lovers. Not me. :-) The star review is based on the boyfriend's appreciation for this place... I did not factor my review in, but thought my comments may help non-seafood lovers who may HAVE to go.

Seafood fried rice. Can you spot the seafood?

Average. I was excited to try this place but for the price the seafood was mediocre. It was a little too fast foodish atmosphere for the price you are paying. Our server was friendly and efficient. We decided on the the sailors feast. We went with one pound of clams and one pound of shrimp. I didn't think the shrimp was quality at all. I think if they used unshelled headless shrimp the marinade would taste way better. And why would I pay for a pond of shrimp when halfa pound you discard? Really leaves a bad taste in my mouth. The clams were good. Really large portions. And I really enjoyed the lotus. Delicious. Seafood fried rice was decent and large but not a lot of flavour. I enjoyed the corn, it was fresh and sweet but the potatoes were bland. Shrimp basket was tasty. Basically hot and miss. If you want to eat a large quantity of seafood for a cheaper price, fine. If you want fresh seafood and quality flavors go somewhere else

The menu the crazy steps to ordering your captains boil!

Tried the Captains boil for the first time after some recommendations from friends. As a seafood lover, I was pretty stoked to find out that a place like this existed in Edmonton. When I arrived I quickly noticed how busy it was, luckily we got seated and were served pretty quickly. The menu was very different, there were steps that you had to follow to order your bag of cajun seafood boil. Basically each person at the table gets plastic gloves and a plastic bib - apparently this is all biodegradable plastic... Which I was glad, since I was a bit concerned with the amount of plastic waste this might generate. So you get a menu and you get to follow steps, you pick your catch - seafood protein, this can be crab legs, lobster mussels, shrimp and you get a pound of this stuff. You then select your flavour this can be cajun, lemon pepper, garlic or the signature captains boil (which might be a combination of the three). Then you select the heat of your boil, non spicy, mild, medium and spicy. You will then select the sides and any add ons. The sides were lotus root, broccoli, corn, okra, sausage and potatoes. Sides were your typical fried rice, fried and chicken tender etc. I ended going for the mussels, with the lotus root and the captain boil with mild sauce and fried shrimp and fries on the side. You can always split the sides too.... Cause this ended up being alot of food!! But it was quite delicious. The mussels were huge and the portions were quite alot. I quite enjoyed the experience. Next time I am back it'll be alot of sharing of the food. As this was alot to take on by yourself. I recommend this place to anyone who enjoys seafood and getting down and dirty with the seafood experience of eating with your hands.

Fantastic service and really great food. Somehow they can make it look better though as you get your food in a plastic bag. I felt like a garbage man rummaging through someone's garbage for food. But it was super delicious. Very expensive though. Definitely not a regular destination for me. 2 adults, 1 pop, 1 water, dungeonesse crab, king crab, seafood rice. $150.00. Sorry, the food came and I had to dig in and by the time I remembered to take photos, it was too late as it was a super mess.

Ahoy! Welcome to the captains boil, where it's a different experience compared to any other restaurant. The food came in bags with the choice of what type of seafood (or chicken) and a choice of 4 flavours. When I went the flavours we got were Cajun, garlic butter and captains boil (a combination of all 3 flavours). All were delicious (especially the Cajun, that was my all time favorite!). Although, I was hoping for the garlic butter to be more stronger in garlic. The service was great as they were quick with seating us and making sure we had beverages. Our server was kind and patient, making sure we had everything we needed and giving us enough time to decide what we want. The interior of the location is very nautical. I really enjoyed the colour scheme that was placed. Filled with natural wood colours and navy, super chic! Overall, this place is great. I would only be coming here on special occasions, just because it is a little pricy. Then again, it is seafood!

Service was great, as soon as we walked in, we were greeted with a smile and asked if it was our first time there. Special attention was given, even though it was extremely busy. This place was bustling as we went on a Saturday around 6:30 PM and had to wait for a table. People seemed happy and the fish and chips just kept flying out the kitchen. The atmosphere was interesting to look at while waiting for your food. There were British style telephone booths everywhere and lots of UK/London style pictures and decor that added to the experience. I would definitely recommend this place!

Sooooo many fries. I would highly recommend get the code combo for 2 people and just order additional fish. I tried the side of beans - was good. Side of coleslaw was also good, very crisp. It was Mother's Day, but we had a reservation for an early dinner. We arrived on time, but despite having a reservation, we still had to 5-10 min for a table to be cleared and ready. From what I could tell, the restaurant was only half full, but not fully staffed. Much like the location in Kamloops, this look like a high-end steakhouse. The kids were impressed with mist covered entrance. Once seated we got our menus. It took a while for our server to come by, but as mentioned, they looked understaffed. The first thing she asked is if we want sparkling or still water. We chose still, only realizing later it was Evian water, not tap water. This was a common practice in fine dining restaurants decades ago, but I think the industry realized that it made feel customers cheated and so I haven't seen this for awhile. I feel it's the roughly the equivalent of being asked to tip for everything now - customers are feeling bad being forced to say no, and feels like a poor business practice. After taking our orders, we were served the complimentary bread. It looked good, but the moment I started to tear it apart, I could immediately tell it was not fresh. The outside was a hard dried-out shell, and the inside was barely warm - like it was sitting under a hot lamp for too long. The kids at the table also mentioned that it's not as good as they remember. We mentioned it to the server, and she thanked us for the feedback. I tried the following: - Prime Rib - Mixed review. The prime rib itself was good. I asked for medium rare, and that's exactly what I got. But It wasn't freshly carved, so it was luke-warm at best. Yorkshire pudding was hard and cold. The potato and kale/spinach pure were fine. The red wine jus had completely congealed. I forgot what it was, so when the plate was placed in front of me, it look like BBQ sauce, and not red wine jus. - New York Striploin - Not good. We asked for medium rare. It was clearly medium - and ended up dried out. I informed the server, and she was willing to replace, but I also encourage my family not to waste food, so we kept it, even if not at it's best. - Truffle & Parmesan Fries - Good. Very large portion size, so couldn't finish it. Service was spotty. Server was nice enough, but just didn't really have the tools or energy to help us with our problems. When we complained about the striploin, she did offer free dessert, but it was a big steak, and we were too full to take it. So what does that mean? I had to pay for still water, cold bread, cold prime rib, overcooked sirloin - at full price. I admit that the overcooked sirloin could have been fixed with a replacement and/or free dessert, but I don't think it would've made up for the entire visit. A place like Atlas aims to provide an ultimate dining experience, and once a mistake is made, it's an uphill battle to recover, and it certainly didn't here. I would have doubts coming back to this location, and possibly other locations too.

The selection is smaller than you might find in a city, but they make up for it in originality and variety. How about three kinds of noodles? And Italian meatballs, prawns, chop suey, deep fried scallops and tempura fried fish. Those last two really impressed me, because they were both fried just enough to allow their delicate flavors and textures shine through. Someone paid attention. On their salad bar, you'll find a different variety of vegetable and fruit salads, alongside simple but excellent fruit slices like papaya, mango, and lychee fruit. Again, someone paid attention to the details, instead of just hacking up some tossed salad and a bunch of melon. I LOVED that they had sushi! It was simple stuff, mostly cucumber, avocado and shrimp, but it was beautiful and tasty--not going to complain! Desserts were simple, but there's something for everyone. Two kinds of cake, chocolate and lemon--I had one of each, plus the lovely custard. What I thought was really cool was the wide variety of ice cream they had available. They had the standard vanilla, but also mint chip, oreo and more. Service was superb. They are quick and soooo nice there. Excellent! I'm pleased with the whole experience.
