Joey's Fish Shack is one of my favourite spots to get Fish & Chips plate. Cod, haddock and halibut fish are types of fish used for this dish - I've had all of them, and all are very good and very tasty, The batter is light, and crispy every time. Chips are always quite tasty as well. My other favorite dish at Joey's is the fish tacos - the fish is battered also, topped with fresh vegetables and put into a tortilla. Service is always good !! I was surprised it was as busy as it was for an early dinner. The menu consists of mostly seafood but there's also chicken, ribs, and salads. I think most people probably go for the fish n chips. I decided on the chicken and fish combo with veggies and fries. The veggies are likely the frozen kind with carrots, peas, and corn but there was a reasonable sized portion. There were 2 pieces of fish and I liked it better than other fish n chip places I tried as I found it wasn't as greasy. I barely had any chicken as I was too full from the rest of my food but it was a little burnt. It's probably more deserving of 3 stars but for the value of the food, about $14 for 2 pieces of fish, chips, veggies, and half chicken I think it's worth it. If I'm in the mood for seafood, I think I would go back. read more

Terrible experience. It has been a while since my family dined at the restaurant and we were surprised by the decline in cleanliness, quality of food and service. The place was packed but we were quickly accommodated by giving us a makeshift table near the the front entrance cash register. Ok? We would have waited but they seemed to want to clear the front door entrance to accommodate the skip the dishes people picking up orders. So having been given the makeshift table we thought we would get fast service. No not at all. A family coming after us was promptly given a proper table and I noticed that the same family was served and their food promptly delivered to them while we still waited for a menu. Terrible never will I eat at Joeys again. Humiliating and the food was crap! read more

Imagine taking a relaxing drive around the East Coast and happening upon a quiet, homey, family-oriented seafood restaurant with friendly staff, affordable prices, and comfortable surroundings. Joey's Seafood Restaurants do a great job of recreating that sort of atmosphere in your local strip mall in the Republic of Western Canada. All that's missing are the East Coast accents and the 13-15% HST. My wife and I have been to the Terra Losa Centre location a few times now and the service is always personable and fast. We like to go in the late afternoon/early evening timeframe between the lunch and supper crowd (yes, it's 'supper'--not 'dinner'--we're in the Maritimes, remember?). It's usually quieter and more laidback during this time. The only other people in the place are usually just seniors having a light meal and watching TV. By the time we're ready to leave there's usually a crowd at the front door ready to swarm the place and "Consume mass quantities!" (Coneheads reference). And just so you know, it's not all seafood they serve. I got the Chicken & Ribs for $21. It is a grilled chicken breast with Teriyaki and a half rack of barbecue ribs. All chicken and rib meals (they come in several combinations) as well as the Ocean Fare come with your choice of two sides. I got fries and veggies. The other sides to choose from are coleslaw, Caesar Salad, spring mix salad, rice, and garlic red skin mashed potatoes. Just remember to ask for a table away from the window. For one thing, seeing all the strip mall traffic spoils the mood of the "quiet roadside Mom and Pop eatery in Atlantic Canada" fantasy and when the "Consumers of Mass Quantities" (Coneheads again) show up to wait for a table they have tendency to stare at you through the glass. read more

We should come here more often. I've said before that life is too short to eat deep fried food, but sometimes you need a salty seafood crunch. There's no better place for that kind of hankering than Joey's Only. It still never seems to be busy, and I still don't understand why. The service is friendly, and the fish was perfect. I had the Seafood Platter, which included battered fish and scallops and some nice herbed shrimp. My sides were caeser salad and garlic mashed potatos and NO EXTRA CHARGE! One thing though...Could you guys turn off that ceiling fan? It was cold in there! read more

Fish is a hard sell in Alberta. Pride in Alberta beef (mediocre in my opinion) and distance from the coast play a part in neglecting this healthy protein option. When I received a great coupon for this particular Joey's, I was reminded that we do like our fish in this house. We intended to go there with another couple but sickness meant that we were only two that Saturday. If location is everything, Joey's is at a disadvantage. It's hard to see from the street - I recommend using a GPS to locate. The entrance is also difficult to access because of a concrete walled patio (useless on a cold winter night. Once inside, the restaurant is roomy, well-lit with a large screen TV on the north wall for those addicted to Hockey Night in Canada. The staff are friendly and service is initially quick. My only quibble with the service is that I had to go to the kitchen to ask for coffee and dessert when we were finished our mains. We never know how we feel about dessert until we finish the first course. However, the owner served coffee/tea and dessert as well as took our payment. The waiting staff seemed to be busy with cleaning up, which made us fell slightly rushed. How was the food you ask? My wife had the halibut with mashed potatoes, pronouncing the mash great but the halibut too dry. I must take her word for it because I learned to dislike mashed because that was the only way my father wanted potatoes served and because I ordered the endless shrimp plate. I was full with the single serving so I couldn't sample my wife's halibut (which disappeared despite the bad review) or eat any more shrimp. For dessert, we shared the mud pie, delicious. The coupon worked because we plan another visit some time in the future. read more

A couple days after Father's Day I brought my wife and my three daughters for some fish and chips. Omar was our server and I believe he probably was the manager aswell , Omar went above and beyond for myself and my family , he is outstanding , friendly & honest server. Some of the best service I've ever had and the perfectly cook fish ( not greasy) food matched Omar's quality of a person:) Here I am a couple weeks after Father's Day and Im still thinking about that 3 piece halibut / chips . It was only ok.... I checked this place out for the second time for dinner on Saturday. The decor would be appealing to fisherman, or maybe our friends from the east coast provinces. There are a few fish tanks with some cute little fish to entertain you, otherwise the place is a dark. I felt like I was dining on the inside of an old pirate ship...which isn't a bad thing I suppose. It took a while (4 minutes) to be greeted, then another 2 minutes before we were seated. The waitress was busy but friendly and apologetic...but didn't bring us menus for another 5 minutes or so. So we were antsy and thirsty for the first 10 minutes of our arrival. I ordered a Cajun Blackened Halibut Sandwich with fries ($15). My guest ordered a 2 piece combo of battered Haddock and fries (also $15). The food came out quickly...but we were sadly disappointed. My sandwich had a very small fillet which was drowned out by thick bun. The sauce (not dry blackened seasoning which I expected) and was very messy. My guest's plate looked like a child's combo. Very small pieces of fish, and literally 16 fries (we counted). He is a big guy....so he suggested that we go for a quick burger after supper to fill up. We quickly finished our meals, and the waitress offered more fries...which are apparently bottomless....which was news to us. So of course we ordered another round, which didn't come for another 10 minutes. There is tartar sauce readily available on all of the tables...but it tasted like room temperature mayo, and the bottles are crusted with old sauce on the tops..and just not appealing. My guest is from Nova Scotia, and sadly Joey's didn't come close to his expectations for fish and chips. I didn't mind my sandwich, but it wasn't worth $15 for the portion, the wait, and the general ambiance of the place. P.S. Their specialty fish is Pollock! Which is just sad. They don't even mention on the menu that it is Pollock, we asked...and passed. Cheers read more

The staff stood at the front, and chatted while a couple others stood next to our table by the kitchen entrance and also chatted. The place was not busy, but we were ignored. This was my first time at a Joey's, being an east coaster I'm shocked I haven't had this amazing seafood before. We went as a family which included our very active 5 year old son. From the moment we walked in the service was incredible! Our server a young man, who's name I didn't get but I sure hope someone is reading this and gives him something for being so good. He was very kind, very friendly and really good with the eager 5 year old who wanted to ask lots of questions. It impressed us! There was also a young lady working with him and she was also amazing! They worked together as a team and that was refreshing, even during a busy dinner rush. We couldn't thank both of them enough! So impressed with the food, service and really there entire experience was one I will brag to my friends about! We will be back! Thanks for making it awesome! read more

Don't know why there was bad reviews about this place, girlfriend and I went there and had a great time. Service wasn't the quickest but it seemed like they were shortstaffed at the time. Run by a bunch of punks who don't care who they give your order to nor if it's complete. Had to wait for them to remake my order as they handed it out to someone else and then I'm assured my order is complete but it wasn't. Really don't have time for people who refuse to spend a few more seconds checking orders for accuracy and completeness. Not all Joey's are the same. Bought groupon to use in this Resturant as I never been in before. Was disappointed. There was only one waitress to serve the whole Resturant. Wait a long time for the food, then she has no time to bring the ketchup. The hamburger kids have were terrible. The meat was so dry and the bread smell stale. Won't recommend to anyone. read more
