    chicken, macaroni and cheese

3.5 if I could give it that. Grabbed take out last Friday where they featured a Louisiana style meal. We chose the fried catfish and the chicken and shrimp. Kinda pricy for the amount of meat you received. In general, food was really tasty. Our favourite was for sure the smoked chicken. And I am not even a big meat eater. Very moist and tender meat with really good bbq flavour. I expected more than 4 shrimp for 35.00. It came with fried okra which was really well done and mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese didn't look like much but it was really really delicious. The catfish dinner came with two pieces of deep fried catfish, okra, Lemon herbed potatoes, hush puppies. We Were looking most forward to the catfish and that was the most disappointing. Dry batter and it fell of the fish. The cornmeal did not work for it and it made the fish dry. The potatoes were bland however the hush puppies were the best I have ever tasted outside of Louisiana. For dessert we had the Voodoo White Chocolate bourbon bread pudding and the Mississippi Mud Pie. Both were nice portions and very moist and delicious. If you like meat, I would try it out. I am not huge on meat and I wasn't super impressed on how they treated their seafood. It was okay.

    Big Daddy Combo. 2 Meats/ 2 sides.

Hadn't been here in quite a while, and a friend tipped me off that they had moved to the west end not too far from work, so a customer and I decided to give the new location a try last week. The new spot is a considerable downsize in space but is in a busy area of west Edmontons business park and should do well with the weekday lunch crowd. We got there just before noon and there were still a couple of tables available. Now full disclosure, I have been pretty spoiled when it comes to BBQ... having been to Texas a few times and experiencing world class BBQ in Nashville and St. Louis. Hell, I have a couple of buddies that have invested heavily in smokers that make BBQ better than the average restaurant. And that's what I would rate Smokehouse BBQ as... average. I opted for the 2 meat/ 2 side Big Daddy Combo. I went with pulled chicken, burnt ends, pit beans, and Cajun cauliflower (which I was really excited to try). The pulled chicken had great flavor but was a bit dry. The burnt ends were fattier than I am used to and didn't have the flavor I was expecting. The pit beans were very average... I was expecting a lot more from a BBQ joint. And the Cajun cauliflower was shockingly bland and a bit overcooked. Our cornbread never did come. Upon being served we were told it wasn't quite ready and would be out in a bit, but that never happened. Disappointing for me as I LOVE cornbread... Where Smokehouse BBQ really hits a homerun is their sauces. Both the Mustard BBQ sauce and the Applewood BBQ sauce are amazing. The other two are pretty damn good as well, but the two I listed as favorites are as good as it gets. I had tried Smokehouse before in the old location and their foodtruck and was more impressed. I've had the bacon bomb, ribs and a jalapeno turkey gumbo in the past which I loved. Maybe I hit an off day, but this visit didn't stand up to my past experiences. They are close by work, so I will try again one day...

The food truck was at the expo centre for an event and this was by far the best option for lunch. Shared a BBQ beef brisket sandwich and bag of there potato chips with my friend. Overall it was a pretty stellar lunch. The beef was tender and flavourful. I didn't even get any stuck in my teeth which is pretty standard when ever I bite into a bit of beef. To that's a sign of how truely tender it was. The sauce was sweet with a hint of heat but definitely not overpowering the flavour of the beef. The house made chips were something pretty great as well. Definitely less of a French fry and more of a true handmade potato chip. They were sprinkled with a salt spice mix that added a nice flavour but still allowed the taste of the potato to come through. I'm definitely a new fan and will be back to try other menu options.

Big Daddy combo with fried chicken, bacon bomb, ribs, mac and cheese & coleslaw. Cornbread in the middle.

I've tried a few other BBQ places in town, and we keep ending up here. I enjoy their BBQ sauces and their ribs because the texture isn't too soft and has a bit of a bite to it. I do think their "famous" bacon bomb is disappointing since it reminds me of meatloaf with some bacon (where's the bomb??) Of the sides, the potato salad and (surprisingly) the cauliflower beat out bland mac & cheese and ok fries. I also love the free baskets of chicarron they start you off with - I'll take that over bread any day! We typically share the combo with 3 meats, and maybe an extra appetizer if we're hungry. That makes it an extremely reasonable cost for two people.

Mistakenly came hungry. The $15 'slider' comes w/ a 1/4 pickle & corn bread that resembled a yellow one-bite brownie- Child's menu. FAIL
    Steve Y.

I made the mistake in going here when I was hungry, but if you want a 'slider' after you have eat somewhere else the beer is reasonably cold. They even only give a quarter of a pickle with your $15 sandwich- but seriously a quarter of a pickle? The corn bread was impressive insofar as it's resemblance to a yellow one-bite brownie although adequately tasty for the scarce bite. Children's menu. Fail, Smokehouse fail, fail fail.

Second time I have been here. It is about half the size this time. Apparently they shrunk the place down. There will be a new place opening in the other side soon. The service wasn't great, she has only been here a couple days but you could tell pretty green. Only 2 tables on a Wednesday night at 630, so don't think this place is doing too well. I was invited with friends, and they love the BBQ. Ordered the combo. Brisket and ribs with the Cajun potato salad, and mac and cheese. The bbq was pretty good. The meat was a bit dry but the sauce was on the side so you can ad. They messed up the order a bit but fixed it up. The corn bread was good. Overall not a bad place for BBQ.

Pulled chicken sandwich with a side of sweet potato fries and chipotle mayo

What a great find, and only a short drive from work to boot!! My work colleague had mentioned she wanted to try this place, so this morning at 11:05 AM I called in our order for pickup at 12:15. I was a little early when I showed up, but food was ready 12:15 on the button. I was back to the office by 12:20! I had an order of the deep fried pickles and the pulled chicken sandwich (with an added slice of cheese) with a side of sweet potato fries and chipotle mayo - absolutely amazing!! The pickles were spiced and nice and crispy, the pulled chicken on the sandwich was flavorful, and the sweet potato fries were delicious!! When the person operating the front (I missed his name!) was putting the bag together, he was inquiring if we have been before and how we heard about them. He then continued to put in samples of each of their BBQ sauces (which are made in house) for us to try!! There were 4 in total, and we loved each one of them. I can see many work lunches here in the future, and I'm thinking of making the drive from Leduc to come in for dinner - I will certainly be a repeat customer.

The "2 meats" platter. Super good! You choose 2 sides with the meats (8 or 9 choices of sides).

Definitely a lot of highlights to this place. - BBQ sauce: the different sauces are real tasty. Especially the "Smokehouse BBQ Original". Great mix of sweet and tangy. - Beef Brisket: definitely a great cut. It was super easy to break off and went great with the different sauces. Would definitely get again. - Potato "crisp" chips: again, really tasty. They say they're spicy, but I'm not a huge spicy guy and they were totally fine. Overall restaurant experience: great atmosphere, friendly staff and prompt service. No complaints at all!

The best part? After a decade they're still probably the best food truck in the city. VUE Weekly named them #1 Best Food Truck 2018 and the show Eat St. featured them in season four. Plus they've been on the Worldwide Faves list on this website this entire time. Locals know that this is the truck that you want - especially for their legendary pork belly sandwich. (If they ever took it off of the menu I think the planet might implode? It's science.) The best way to figure out where Drift is going to be on any given day is to check their website where they've got an up-to-date calendar of their whereabouts. The truck shuts down for the winter so it's always exciting when the end of April rolls around and you know that you're going to be able to start stalking them again. I went to find the truck on the seasons opening of the 124 Grand Market in Westmount, a wonderful farmers' market. Drift does sometimes sell out, so if there's something in particular that you want to eat from them, I'd recommend arriving early. (This will also help you to avoid waiting in a giant lineup.) It's always exciting when the turquoise-painted truck comes into view. These days, the menu on offer is usually pretty standard. They've got four different sandwiches - all amazing. (Although back in the day they used to sometimes do a duck confit sandwich that you don't see anymore and I'd love to see that one make a glorious return!) They've also got some sides that are very good as well. You know the drill, you approach the truck window to make your order with the friendly people inside, then wait a few minutes until they call your name and hand you a brown paper bag filled with goodness. And they do take cards as payment these days. To drink they usually have interesting local canned beverages and they're often different from one visit to the next. I spotted the Troubled Monk Ginger Ale Soda (from Red Deer) and decided to give it a try. This craft ginger ale was quite possibly the best ginger ale that I've ever tasted. The flavour was so real! You could tell that it's made with real ginger but it also had a very unique and wonderful molasses flavour that I really enjoyed. If you see this soda around you should definitely grab some! Next, I moved in on the Sides. We were going to have a true Drift feast on this day! There were four different items to choose from and I had to try the Poutine (Made with beef gravy & fresh cheese curds - $6.50) because I think that this might be something a bit new that they're doing. First of all, their hand-cut fries are already super famous and they season them with "Drift spice" which involves cumin, fennel, mustard seed and chili. (They also do their own housemade ketchup made with cardamom and ginger, which is excellent.) So the fries alone are already something special... But then they went and turned them into a poutine. This very well may be the best poutine happening in Edmonton right now. I'm super picky about poutine (as you may already know) and this one crushes it on every level. The fries are ultra crispy and golden (likely double fried) and dusted in their delicious seasoning. The cheese curds were fresh and squeaky, piled on high. And the gravy was hot and savoury. THIS is the poutine that Edmonton needs to know about. I also ordered the Broccoli Salad (Broccoli, apple, carrot, raisin & herb aioli - $4.75), because health! Loved this little salad. This is a great way to add something a bit more fresh to your Drift meal and I loved the bright combination of veggies and fruit. The broccoli was crunchy and the apple and raisin gave it a nice sweetness. You really can't go wrong with this salad and you'll feel like you ate vegetables. And then it's sandwich time. The Pork Belly Sandwich (Chili mayo, pickled carrot & daikon, fresh cilantro - $9.00) is truly of Edmonton legend and I doubt that I'll ever be able to get myself to order anything else. This sandwich is everything. I dove in immediately and reveled in the symphony of flavours. First and foremost is the pork belly that has taken on an incredible caramelized glaze which gives it a bit of a crunch. It's sliced thin and the fat is rendered down perfectly. Next, the pickled vegetables and cilantro give the sandwich a definite Vietnamese vibe, and the slight kick from the chili mayo is the perfect way to round everything out. The bun reminds me of the soft and crusty Portuguese type. It's a perfect sandwich. Incredibly delicious and consistently amazing for a whole decade, this sandwich must never, never go away. I love Drift. They're a major part of the culinary tapestry in this city and they've certainly played a huge roll in making the food truck scene everything that it is today. They've really cracked the code by offering a small handful of items on their m

I was very surprised to see that it was fairly empty on a Friday night (not sure if this is the norm). Despite that they had the music going on full blast. The restaurant is fully decorated with Mexican decor. I noticed that they also had a large party room with a stage and a dance floor. I'm guessing this is used for private bookings. The service is very casual. Once you are ready to order you go up to the front to put in your order and pay. A staff member will deliver the food to your table. Although the staff were very kind and friendly, we did notice that once the food arrived, no one came by to check on us. We were never once offered a water refill nor were our empty dishes cleared even though we had long finished our meal. I ordered the fish tacos and our table got salsa and guacamole to share. The guacamole was very fresh and tasty, we all enjoyed it. The salsa was watery so we didn't enjoy it as much. The chips were delicious but a little over baked. The tacos were absolutely delicious and I would get them again. I added some of the fixings from their toppings bar which made it even better. The portions are great for the price. 4 tacos for $17! Can't beat that. We were all stuffed by the end of the night. It would be nice if you were allowed to mix flavours though like maybe 2 of each.
