Table side house made barbecue sauces (House, Hot, Sweet)
    Gino B.

Right next to Sumo sumo is " That Bar-B-q Place " " TBBQP ", a fast casual restaurant serving southern style barbecue, fast! Upon entering, the smell of the two visible smokers entices TBBQP's meat options; while the country music is blaring on the speakers and southern themed decor and artifacts complete the dining room's ambiance. I was greeted by what appeared to be the owner, a friendly man that was proud of his cuisine as he meticulously and thoroughly took the time to explain his restaurant's menu and meat smoking process. I opted for the two meat platter with rib add-on. A few short minutes later, a large tray came out and it looked terrific! The smoked beef brisket was juicy, tender and not fatty whatsoever; as was the sliced smoked turkey. The 3 smoked pork rib add-on ($4.50) was an excellent opportunity to try a nice variety of their pit smoker's prowess! The meats are not basted or wet and three house made barbecue sauces are provided at each table. This is the first time I try barbecue this way as sometimes, In most U.S. BBQ eateries; I find myself stuck with a wet meat slab basting in a vinegary or mixed sauce that I may or may not like. Here, you get to experiment between the house- traditional, hot or sweet barbecue sauces and I indulged with all 3 - my favorite ended being the sweet, sweet!!! The quantity of sides are not typical of a barbecue restaurant; there is no Mac'n'Cheese or fried okra, for example - but it is a fast casual barbecue joint with 5 solid options including coleslaw, pit beans, mashed or baked potato and cornbread. The coleslaw portion included in my tray was heaping and tasted fresh and very light - not too sweet or vinegary... just right! . Pickles, crinkled chips and a freshly baked cornbread rounded out my afternoon barbecue experience at TBBQP! And... just like that...I wolfed everything down quickly; washing down my delicious barbecue with three refills of Diet Pepsi - to keep things on the light side hehehhehe 25 minutes and $30 later; I left full and satisfied; having chowed down on great smoked brisket, turkey and fall-off-the bone pork ribs while supporting a local small business right here in Sherwood Park; will definitely be back!

Great place if you like BBQ, menu is variety of pork, brisket or turkey. Sandwiches or platter of meat with deep friedbeans, baked potato or cornbread or mashed potato. This was my first time here, it will not be my last.

For a barbeque joint, the food is extremely affordable at this Sherwood Park restaurant. This place is always busy at lunch but they do a great job at getting everyone's food at quickly! My favourite is definitely the pulled pork sandwich with a side of garlic mashed potatoes. The pork has zero to very little fat and they have a selection of BBQ sauces for you to try. Another good choice is the pulled potatoe which is a baked potatoes with your choice of meat and beans or slaw. Even though it doesn't sounds like much, it is extremely filling!

My friend and I ventured down to Sherwood Park recently to try That Bar-B-Q Place. The family-owned restaurant serves different types of Southern BBQ (beef brisket, pulled pork, turkey breast, and ribs). The BBQ can be ordered in a sandwich or in dinner platters. For sides, you can choose from coleslaw, corn bread, baked beans, and potatoes (mashed or baked). The food gets heavy so I would suggest coming here for dinner instead of lunch. It's a fast-casual style restaurant where you order, pay, then wait for your food to be brought out to you. I knew I had to order their famous creation when I heard about it. The Pulled Potato is a baked potato piled high with your choice of brisket or pulled pork, smoked cheddar, coleslaw, Louisana mayo, BBQ sauce, and pickles on top. It also came with a few potato chips - as if you need more potatoes right?! I decided to get mine with pulled pork and no pickles. The pulled pork was tender and there was a good amount of it. The coleslaw added a refreshing touch to the otherwise heavy item. I found the whole thing to be very filling even though it wasn't accompanied with a side like the rest of the menu items. It was a bit too saucy towards the end though. The Pulled Potato was good but wasn't anything spectacular. I do recommend trying their housemade hot BBQ sauce with the pulled pork for a hint of spice. My friend had the regular-sized beef brisket sandwich, which comes with one homemade side. At first bite, he found the brisket to be very dry. I tried a bit and I would have to agree that it was way too dry to eat. He informed the owner who told us that the meats were made without sauce. He brought him a new beef brisket sandwich which tasted more moist but the dryness still lingered. For his side, he decided to go with garlic, creamy whipped potatoes. It certainly tasted homemade! I wouldn't go out of my way to stop by this BBQ place but if you're around the area, stop by and try the Pulled Potato for something different! They also offer family platters which seems like a good deal if you're with a group of people. It's located between Costco and Millennium Place, or in the same area as Sumo Sumo.

This was a new place for me. It's a modest order at the counter venue with a whole lot to look at. If you're going the vegan or vegetarian route they have baked potatoes plain and lots of BBQ sauces to try with it. We ordered the platter of three meats and two sides. The ribs were the best I've ever had. Juicy meaty and fall off the bone. The pulled pork and brisket were good too. But what made them exceptional was three BBQ sauces at the table you put on. There was a house sauce, sweet, and hot. All three were delicious.

I went to That Bar-B-Q Place when it first opened and thought it was decent, so decided to go there for lunch with a friend today to try it again. We met at 11:30 so it was very quiet when I first got there, but it did pick up later. I ordered and by the time I had paid, my food was ready on the counter. Very fast... maybe too fast? I ordered the brisket sandwich with beans and my friend got the pulled pork sandwich with mashed potatoes. The first bite was pretty disappointing. Then bun was stale and tasted a few days old. The brisket was very dry and pretty flavourless. I was able to douse the meat in barbecue sauce, so that kind of salvaged it, but I prefer to have the meat stand alone, not just be masqueraded in a sauce. There was no saving the stale bun though. I had tried the pit beans the first time I was there and enjoyed the smoky taste and brisket mixed in. This time, I could hardly distinguish them from beans straight out of a can. My friend wasn't very fond of his pulled pork sandwich, saying that it was very bland. Honestly, the only saving grace of this place is the barbecue sauce. Everything else was a big meh. I've had much better barbecue at chain restaurants than this specialty barbecue place.

Pulled Potato - a meal in itself!

Unique presentation and generous portions. This is a cafeteria style experience. You go up to the front counter to order your meal. The staff is phenomenal about taking care of their guests, so don't be afraid to tip up front! The restaurant is very "eco-friendly" which is always nice to see. Your meal is served on a piece of butcher's paper on top of a small serving tray. The cups and utensils are also disposable/biodegradable. This is one of the only restaurants I have seen where you can make your own meal. You have a choice of ribs, pulled pork, brisket or smoked turkey. There is also a selection of sides. The "Two Meat Plate" was a huge portion size with two meats and two sides. My husband couldn't finish it all. He highly recommends the Pit Beans - they were very good. I had the "Pulled Potato" which is unique to this restaurant. It is a baked potato lined with apple-wood smoked cheddar, mayo, your choice of meat, BBQ sauce, coleslaw and pickles. It was a meal in itself. Very tasty! A great gluten-free option. You have a choice of three different types of house-made BBQ sauces here: House, hot and sweet. All of the smoked meat is made with BC Apple Wood. There are gluten free buns and dessert options. They have a great special for a "Family Platter for Four". This is three meats, two large sides, four cornbread, chips, pickles and BBQ sauce for $49.95. There were a few people that came and picked one of these up while we were eating. The staff checked in on us several times to make sure we were enjoying our meal. They were very attentive and knowledgeable. We will be back!

Amazing fast, friendly service. They read order wrong when we asked for brisket and ribs and got brisket and pulled pork. They then just brought us the ribs on the side. All were amazing. Especially the pulled potatoe. I recommend substituting the coleslaw for beans. So much food. Even the owner Bruce came over to bring us rake out containers..we couldn't eat it all. Amazing guy, amazing place. Bbq sauces were all homemade and so good..even the spicy! Price is right too. We will be back for sure!!

Also $5 off if you pre-order via website. Website is easy to navigate. I like the bread choices - wish they had a multigrain/one with lots of grit/seeds. Was sad to find out many items were not available - California Club, Broccoli Salad, Wicked Thai soup. All things I wanted to try. In my opinion if you can't offer it you should have a more reasonable menu that reduces disappointment (smaller menu?). I preordered at 2PM for pickup at 5:30PM knowing I would be there 5:15PM so it would be fresh. I arrived 5:20PM and it was all ready for pickup -how early it was made is debatable. As I expected bread was Super soggy and super squished. Salad toppings were already getting soggy. I got the Southwest Crunch salad $9.29 - better than I expected. I like the vinaigrette and I'm not a vinaigrette person. Lettuce was cut into great bite sized pieces and crisp. As mentioned, the Tortilla strips were already getting soggy. I got the The Dilbert on Whole Wheat $12.49 - Great flavor but with the bread being so soggy and flat it was a disappointment. The crust of the bread was really tasty and I wish the whole sandwich was that fluffy and tasty. Filling 10/10 - Bread killed it. I got the Club Press'd on rye $10.79- Same as the other bread super soggy and gross. Filling was fine but cheap with the lettuce - as you can see it was mostly white tasteless and rind. 6/10 for the filling. I also tried the Lean Green smoothie $5.79. Portion was as expected. Tasted great, very fresh and healthy. Overall was super disappointed and RECOMMEND only ordering fresh (not worth the $5 off).

" Average overpriced sandwiches with fries "…read more Jon Smith Subs just opened in the space of the old Mucho Burrito on baseline Rd in Sherwood Park. The signs say " bring your big mouth " and " love local, eat delicious ". Turns out this is a Florida, USA-based small chain, so not much for local. The decor is basic planked woods with vinyl green and grey benches. You can smell a Whiff of grease from the fryers as you open the door. Wait, what? Yes, fryers! They sell French fries and poutine in a sandwich shop lol. First impressions remind me of What Mr Sub, which happens to be located across the street, used to be like 15 years ago. The subs here start at $7.95 for a small and go up to. Around $15 for the 12in. I wanted to try different sandwiches so I started out by ordering a small " triple deli classic " which comes with turkey, ham and roast beef - only to be told it only comes in the large format, really? Ah ok... so let's move on. I ordered a small montreal smoked beef ($7.95) and the small Italian Steak ($7.95) and had the choice of white or whole wheat bread. The sandwiches were extra small and thin - the smoked beef was barely 4 inches in lenght, while the steak was about right at a skinny 6 inches. The bread was small and chewy, nothing special. Definitively, there was not enough meat on the sandwiches and I don't get the branding that says bring a big mouthful, nah! The bun for the Italian steak was flat and arched making the meat look heaping but it was just an ok average portion for this type of froid beef-ish steak-ish meat. The Italian steak sandwich overall tasted very bland, the marinara was a sauce with nothing going for it. As for the steak meat, it appeared to be made of tiny ground/ strip beef-ish shreds of the supermarket precooked variety. The corned beef was shredded, very skimpy instead of it being stacked high and definitely lacked the montreal corned beef heaping full, big mouth sandwiches that come with such an appellation in Montreal. To my surprise they sell fries and poutine on the menu. I made one of the sandwiches a combo with a fountain drink and a small poutine ($5.95). For a minute I figured they might as well sell hot dogs and onion rings.... Ah but I'd rather get those giant hot dogs at the nearby Costco with a drink for $2... ah well... ideas ideas.:/ 15 minutes and $23 later; there was nothing special about this place - bland small and thus overpriced sandwiches, with fries - is my overall impression.
