Brisket, pulled pork, ribs & sausage. Coleslaw, smashed potatoes and gravy, jambalaya rice, mac & cheese and baked beans.

I had no idea this place existed in Nisku and was pleasantly surprised to try it out. Everything is made in house, including a huge range of sauces - there's a list on the wall of what each one is, but you can try a little bit of everything if you wanted! Lots of choices for sides and meats and it's decent value for the pricing. I found a few things to be a bit dry or the flavour wasn't super pronounced (maybe needs more rub on it?) but it was all a-ok. The best part was the service - SO nice and helpful, especially for a first timer like me. Loved watching their interactions with their regular customers but also that they were just as friendly to people like us who they have never met before. Felt super sincere and welcoming. Would definitely come back to try more things.

Wow! Incredible, hidden gem in the heart of nisku! The smoked meat and the value of your meal is great. The staff is friendly and welcoming. Atmosphere is classic, blues bar feel. The brisket and pull pork are mouth watering, I came here 3 days in a row because I couldn't get enough! Highly recommended for lunch and catered events!

This place is a gem, the food is some of the best I ever had. If your around the area don't waste anytime head on down. You won't be disappointed.

Damn good value for bbq. Why should I say any more than that? Because I can steer you in the right direction because I know good bbq. The place feels like a southern bbq joint with a covered patio by the parking lot and music coming from all sides. I got the 3 meat plate that comes with 2 sides. I got the brisket (these guys nailed the brisket, it was moist, had a perfect hang and was nice and beefy and tender.), the sausage.... this tasted home made. It was excellent and packed with flavor. The ribs I'd probably pass on and get the chicken or pulled pork next time... they were good but the other 2 meats outshone them by a mile. For sides I got the mac and cheese and beans, both were excellent. I rarely get a drink when I go out but the lady behind the counter very politely kept demanding to "wet my whistle" and got me a glass of water, it was pretty friendly and funny so I obliged. I had a friend help me finish this mountain of food and I paid for his lunch special. All in lunch was only $39!!! Last week at a rib fest I paid that much for a rack of ribs 2 sides! This was great value for sure. I got to leave with a "wet whistle" a full belly and will definitely be coming back.

I find it difficult to find an authentic southern BBQ place in these parts, but Cookshack does a pretty good job. The decor is perfect... Looks like an authentic BBQ joint. Picnic table cloths, big rolls of paper towel, and the food is served on a tray. Yup, that's what I like to see! The prices are excellent (finally!!). One meat with 2 sides starting at $13.50, 2 meats for $18, and 3 for $22. This was refreshing to see, as some places in e-town charge $20 for one meat selection. So props to this place for being reasonable! Onto the food! We ordered the brisket, chicken, and pulled pork. If I compare only to other barbecue places in Edmonton, it's great. But man, I just can't seem to find much for amazing brisket around here, and I unfortunately I don't classify it as amazing. It's okay though. The sides we had were the mac'n'cheese, smashed potatoes, and cream corn. Oh and the jalepeno cornbread. All sides were tasty, but I most enjoyed the cornbread. They also have an abundance of sauces... 7 different flavours! Overall, it's a respectable place. If I compare it to all the BBQ places I've been to in the states, this is not a 4 star place. However, compared to what we have around here, it deserves the 4. I think they would do very well if they opened for supper and not just lunch.

Love this place so much! The mac & cheese is so unique and different, probably my favorite item on the menu. The brisket and pulled pork are my go-to meats, always good and pair great with the homemade sauces. The staff are ridiculously friendly and welcoming too! My only complaint is that the food is never quite hot enough but I can overlook that given how delicious it is.

It's a farm to table type of restaurant and everything is locally sourced I was told. Has a pleasant atmosphere with plenty of indoor and some outdoor seating. Arrived shortly after 5pm and already the tables were getting filled. I opted for one of the specials which was a 6oz Denver Steak, carrots, asparagus and potato croquettes. Very tasty but the steak wasn't the best cut and a bit difficult to chew. Washed it down with a Blueberry Basil Mule. Which was very refreshing and tasty. My server, Amanda was very pleasant and attentive. Had highly recommended the Lemon Meringue Cheesecake for dessert and boy was she right! It was so creamy and delicious...yum!!!! Not too sweet, just the way I like it. I'm not a huge dessert fan but this was amazing. Took most of it home. The downside is there's a unisex bathroom and it really needed a good clean. Not what I would expect from a higher end restaurant. Be prepared to spend a bit here. The food is tasty though and they do grow a lot of their own vegetables. There's a little garden right outside. I didn't end up getting a picture of it as the weather took a turn for the worse all of a sudden.

The staff were really great and observant and saw that when more people arrived for our party they moved from behind the counter and moved tables together for us so we could all sit together. We ordered The Queen $16.99 on the black bun $2.99 (extra)and it was very juicy, definitely something you want to eat right away because it was rich in sauce and juice. The black bun was interesting. We also ordered sweet potato fries $5.99 (not cooked crispy enough for my liking, cactus cuts $6.99 (really crispy but tasty), and regular fries $4.99 (perfect crispy level and very lightly if anything tasted like non-salted, which I kind of liked more). I also got to taste The Colonel $10.99 - which I liked this crispy chicken burger quite a bit and this is what I'd come back and order). Friend also tried the butter chicken poutine $9.99 and commented that it wasn't too spicy even though they don't like any spice- so might even be a good kids option if your looking for one. I picked The Farmer's Feast and my guests both selected the Oilers burger. I can't say that I could see any connection between the names and the burgers but that's okay. My burger was quite tasty and tender. This was definitely not a fast food frozen beef paddy. Surprisingly it wasn't even very messy. We ordered yam fries and onion rings as well. Ambiance was non-existent but perhaps that's why the prices were so good. If you are looking for a good burger at a very good price then check out Meat The Bun. I recommend it.
