a plate of tacos with a lime wedge
    Jennie L.

Not sure how to rate this. Food was really tasty. However, between COVID rules and the setting, it seemed removecd. Things thrown on platters. Fast food atmosphere. We didn't have a lot of service. We went up to order and everyone was friendly. however, there was no real follow up.The food was brought to us and we were left to eat that in plastic plates. It seemed undone. Food was good. I enjoyed the fish tacos especially. Batter was crispy. Loved all the salsas. Well done! Great selection from mild to spicy. All fresh and all tasty. If you want a casual experience where it is like a taco bell with much better food go here. But as far as atmosphere and service there are other places that would supply this. Lots of potential. Falls short currently.

Calle has always been one of my favourite Mexican restaurants! We had them cater a work event a few years ago, which everyone really enjoyed. Today I ordered the chicken enchiladas on skip and the chicken was full of flavour. I haven't had one bad experience with their food or service. Always 5/5!

Today was my first time at Calais Mexico and it ended up being on their third anniversary. What a party! The place was packed I don't know if it's usually like this or if it was just because of our large group (which by the way I would never go with again). It's the only reason I gave them four stars instead of five I wish they had mentioned the place is not great for big crowds. The food was great - I had the shrimp tacos and I don't think I've had better. The shrimp were done to perfection and the three tacos were just enough to fill me up. Apparently they only have these on Fridays so make sure to go in on a Friday and try some. We also tried the guacamole and chips. The guacamole is made to order so it was very fresh. There was also a lot of it which I appreciated - good value. I also had the lime Margarita and it was delicious. Definitely worth trying! Now I don't think they do this every time but they had a lovely band playing and the music was great. Totally added to the atmosphere. I will definitely be coming back here for some authentic Mexican food just not whole big crowd! Or I could head to West Edmonton Mall where I hear they're opening their new location pretty quick.

Still my favorite Mexican in #YEG Love that they've been able to expand their small store front to include the space next door. Everything here is delicious. EVERYTHING. My fave is still the tostadas! The family that run this gem are amazing! The salsa bar makes my heart sing and sometimes you can snag a Mexican hot mango lollipop on your way out the door! Any day ending in Y is a good day for Calle Mexico!

Been back a couple times now to Calle Mexico and it's good as ever. The restaurant is now fully expanded with plenty of tables. Like the large portraits they've put up on the walls; feels very homey. Part of the menu's been updated - there's now an appetizer & side section along with alcoholic drinks and dessert. Siiiiiiiiiick. Don't pass up on any of their specials of the day. Don't forget to stock up on the sauces. Why are the containers so small though??? Had to go back twice to refill on the guacamole and salsa verde. - Melon ($2.50) - pretty light, mild but you can tell it's made with real melon. I think the horchata is my favourite out of the three available flavours. - Nachos ($10.00) - the nachos are great; fresh, crunchy and crisp. The flavours were pretty well balanced except a couple bites the salt came through. - 2x Sopes ($4.00 each) - freaking delicious. Topped with onion, queso, avocado and here's the kicker: potatoes. Potatoes were perfect! Thoroughly enjoyed/devoured it. - Suadero tacos ($12.00) - suadero = brisket. Yes, please. I still wish their tacos included four instead of the odd three (how do you share?) but brisket was excellent. - Churros ($7.50) - 5 massive pieces, which we weren't expecting, with a side of caramel sauce to dip them in. Fresh, hot, crunchy and not too sweet. We were stuffed so only ate one each and brought the rest back for co-workers to finish off.

Best tacos I've ever had!! The fish, beef tongue and pork tacos were amazing. Ingredients tasted fresh and flavourful!! The 3 Leches cake was delicious and creamy as well!

Great as usual. Famous tostado's! Can't wait to try more grime them. Enchiladas are still my favourite.

Good place to eat to get authentic Mexican food. The enchiladas are amazing in store. I finally went to try the food truck. First of all the food truck app took me to the wrong place. Then I had To ask locals how to get to the place because of there wrong pin on the app which I corrected them on and they still did not fix. When I finally found them they were out of the meat. Sad. Now they opened in the west Ed mall and jacked up there prices. Way to expensive compared to other food there. I wanna eat there but I'm on a budget. I'll pass. Can't see them lasting at those prices.

Came here with two business colleagues and enjoyed what I would consider some of the best Mexican food I've ever had. One word: FRESH. Everything was very clean and fresh and just tasted extremely authentic and good. I've been to Mexico and even the food there was sometimes not as good as the food I had at Calle. We ordered a number of the popular dishes, five to be exact, and three of the desserts and some margaritas. The food came within 10 minutes and the owner even stopped by the table and chatted with us, and was super friendly. I had heard good things about this place but now that I've experienced it I can 110% agree with the good reviews.

Ordered for pick up tonight! Was delicious! Tons of flavor and great little local place with great Mexican cuisine!

    Tostada's - best ever! ($11)

Oh wow! 24 hours later, I'm still thinking about those delicious Tostadas. So flavourful and satisfying. Usually I'm not a fan of messy food but these are worth it - just be sure to have some napkins at the ready. The chicken was awesome, veggies fresh and abundant and the tortilla nice and crispy. They also have lots of different salsas you can try. The restaurant itself is small but well laid out with a surprising amount of seating. I was glad to arrive just before the lunch rush. I can see why this place gets busy! The service was super friendly and you could tell they were working their butts off in the kitchen. I was so glad to finally find myself in this neighbourhood and next time I will make a special trip for a good Mexican food fix.

    Steak tacos - so flavourful!
    Bernice G.

I think this is one of most authentic and delicious Mexican restaurants in the city. I came here with a friend who is a regular patron. We shared a couple orders of tacos and ordered a chicken sope each. The steak tacos were excellent. Tons of flavour! The meat was marinated perfectly and topped with beans with the pico del gallo salsa and avocado finished it off nicely. The fish tacos were a little disappointing as they were slightly over deep fried and therefore dry but the toppings made up for it. By far my most favourite were the chicken sopes! Can someone say fiesta? Because there was a party of flavour and crunchiness in my mouth! I am salivating thinking of them right now. Sopes are handmade thick tortillas topped with tinga chicken, sour cream, radish, feta cheese, and avocados. They are like the deep dish pizza of tacos. The crunchy taco with all of the fresh and delicious toppings are worth sinking your teeth into. We had the melon water and the horchata to drink. Both were delicious. The horchata reminded me of a creamy cold cinnamon chai. The owners are super friendly and take the time to explain the menu to you. It was nice to chat with them. Their restaurant is like their home and we were the guests. I look forward to my next visit!

    Great looking piñata!

Superiormente excelente!!!! If you want real Mexican food stay away from Julio's and make your way over to Calle Mexico. The soup is wonderful and fresh and the sandwiches are superbly filling and satisfying. You will feel like you are visiting your auntie or grandma when you arrive as they are so warm and inviting. The price is not bad for what you get either. Ignore the exterior and the surrounding neighbourhood as the place is superbly sanitary. Highly recommended to anyone.

The market itself is fun, however, this spot needs way more tables and chairs, we were lucky to find a spot. Generally speaking their menu is fairly limited. Smash burgers, fries, onion rings, little bags of chips, and some bottled water and pop. It would be nice for them to have some cheaper pop options than the expensive cans. Hopefully they will have a more permanent restaurant like space if they get more business. Food was excellent. Definitely worth the price that they charge. I went with the Oklahoma burger which was a double smash patty with an absolute tonne of fried onions. SO DELICIOUS. Perfect patties, lovely grilled bun and the toppings were so lovely and fresh. My husband went with a double smash patty. He enjoyed his burger as well. We went with an order of fries and an order of onion rings. Both were fresh and made to order. If you like onion rings, these are excellent. Really we could have split one order of rings and each have a burger and we would have been full. Service was friendly but a bit on the slow side. Don't come here if you are in a rush. Worth the trip for the burger, and see if you can find some treasures with your shopping.

The best part? After a decade they're still probably the best food truck in the city. VUE Weekly named them #1 Best Food Truck 2018 and the show Eat St. featured them in season four. Plus they've been on the Worldwide Faves list on this website this entire time. Locals know that this is the truck that you want - especially for their legendary pork belly sandwich. (If they ever took it off of the menu I think the planet might implode? It's science.) The best way to figure out where Drift is going to be on any given day is to check their website where they've got an up-to-date calendar of their whereabouts. The truck shuts down for the winter so it's always exciting when the end of April rolls around and you know that you're going to be able to start stalking them again. I went to find the truck on the seasons opening of the 124 Grand Market in Westmount, a wonderful farmers' market. Drift does sometimes sell out, so if there's something in particular that you want to eat from them, I'd recommend arriving early. (This will also help you to avoid waiting in a giant lineup.) It's always exciting when the turquoise-painted truck comes into view. These days, the menu on offer is usually pretty standard. They've got four different sandwiches - all amazing. (Although back in the day they used to sometimes do a duck confit sandwich that you don't see anymore and I'd love to see that one make a glorious return!) They've also got some sides that are very good as well. You know the drill, you approach the truck window to make your order with the friendly people inside, then wait a few minutes until they call your name and hand you a brown paper bag filled with goodness. And they do take cards as payment these days. To drink they usually have interesting local canned beverages and they're often different from one visit to the next. I spotted the Troubled Monk Ginger Ale Soda (from Red Deer) and decided to give it a try. This craft ginger ale was quite possibly the best ginger ale that I've ever tasted. The flavour was so real! You could tell that it's made with real ginger but it also had a very unique and wonderful molasses flavour that I really enjoyed. If you see this soda around you should definitely grab some! Next, I moved in on the Sides. We were going to have a true Drift feast on this day! There were four different items to choose from and I had to try the Poutine (Made with beef gravy & fresh cheese curds - $6.50) because I think that this might be something a bit new that they're doing. First of all, their hand-cut fries are already super famous and they season them with "Drift spice" which involves cumin, fennel, mustard seed and chili. (They also do their own housemade ketchup made with cardamom and ginger, which is excellent.) So the fries alone are already something special... But then they went and turned them into a poutine. This very well may be the best poutine happening in Edmonton right now. I'm super picky about poutine (as you may already know) and this one crushes it on every level. The fries are ultra crispy and golden (likely double fried) and dusted in their delicious seasoning. The cheese curds were fresh and squeaky, piled on high. And the gravy was hot and savoury. THIS is the poutine that Edmonton needs to know about. I also ordered the Broccoli Salad (Broccoli, apple, carrot, raisin & herb aioli - $4.75), because health! Loved this little salad. This is a great way to add something a bit more fresh to your Drift meal and I loved the bright combination of veggies and fruit. The broccoli was crunchy and the apple and raisin gave it a nice sweetness. You really can't go wrong with this salad and you'll feel like you ate vegetables. And then it's sandwich time. The Pork Belly Sandwich (Chili mayo, pickled carrot & daikon, fresh cilantro - $9.00) is truly of Edmonton legend and I doubt that I'll ever be able to get myself to order anything else. This sandwich is everything. I dove in immediately and reveled in the symphony of flavours. First and foremost is the pork belly that has taken on an incredible caramelized glaze which gives it a bit of a crunch. It's sliced thin and the fat is rendered down perfectly. Next, the pickled vegetables and cilantro give the sandwich a definite Vietnamese vibe, and the slight kick from the chili mayo is the perfect way to round everything out. The bun reminds me of the soft and crusty Portuguese type. It's a perfect sandwich. Incredibly delicious and consistently amazing for a whole decade, this sandwich must never, never go away. I love Drift. They're a major part of the culinary tapestry in this city and they've certainly played a huge roll in making the food truck scene everything that it is today. They've really cracked the code by offering a small handful of items on their m
