The food was SO good, especially for the price. Expected to pay around 20$ per person! The service was excellent and the decor they had in the restaurant complemented the whole service nicely. I would recommend, if you're having more than 4 people in your party definitely make a reservation!
Ordered take-out. Was quoted 15minutes for my pescado (fish tacos). Took more like 20minutes but that was okay. Staff were very nice as I just waited in the entrance area. There is a small patio and I overheard that you cannot reserve it (first come first serve) and you can only sit in groups of 2. Restaurant was 70% full Tuesday at 7PM. Tacos were super fresh. Didn't really like the corn tortilla flavor but I like they use 2 wraps per taco. Fish was a good portion but $18 for 2 tacos + tax + tip it becomes quite pricey. Had to choose between beans and rice as a side and chose beans. I really liked them, good texture, great flavor. I was happy they threw in a small hot sauce as well. Tacos themselves had a little spicy kick which was really nice. I liked the dressing and slaw mix. Overall, a decent Mexican option.
Well, this was the start of a great date night. Busy so good thing wife made a reservation! We came hungary, and left barely able to breathe! Our server was SUPER nice, and the drinks and food took us back to Mexico times. Even after all the food, we had to make room for CHURROS!! D - LICIOUS!!!!! Inside decor and music also gives it the authentic Mexican vibe. Definitely my favorite Mexican restaurant I have been to locally! I didn't really care for the Bulldog, but I don't usually like margaritas, so not sure what I was thinking. Just got caught up in the moment haha... definitly not taking a star away for that though.... give this place a try!! Make sure you make a reso or you'll be waiting!
Holy smokes- I have to say, this is easily the best local Mexican joint in the YEG area. It doesn't look like much from the outside- when I rolled up I kind of wondered if I was in the wrong place. We had a 7:30 reservation- our table wasn't ready, we had to wait about 10 min. I wasn't too flustered though, the fact that they were packed on a Sunday night just reinforced that we were in foe a delicious evening. We started with the flauntas for an appetizer, which was delicious. Highly recommend. I had the chicken tacos. The flavours were soooo good. The tortillas were perfect. I will say the hot sauce is not hot. I like really hot sauces, so this was my only complaint- flavourful nonetheless. We finished off with churros and oh dear lord were they amazing. The only thing I will say is that our waitress, although she checked in on us sufficiently and made sure we had what we needed, I got a very unfriendly vibe from her. That said, I couldn't put my finger on what it was- maybe facial expression or tone... but not blatant enough to affect my score in any way! 5 stars! Maybe even 6! Will definitely be back again and again. Top notch Mexican experience!
A hole in the wall for authentic Mexican food! La patrona is a Mexican restaurant located in Sherwood park. I ordered the vegetarian tacos. They had refried beans, veggies and avocado. The dish has rice on the side. The tacos were very well seasoned and portions are great. As a dessert I ordered the churros which were delicious. Overall the restaurant is great. The only only thing would be to have more clear vegetarian options.
The food is good quality and massive fair portions. The service was efficient, available and nice. The environment was busy, lively and filled with happy smiley customers. Highly recommend this amazing place!!!!
Friendly service, a little slow but table for 14 came shortly after us. Excellent guacamole and pico de gallo. Tostados were crisp and light. I had pastor tacos w refried beans. Hubby had quesadilla special (2 chorizo, 2 beef). Really excellent. Middle of the day so we didn't have drinks but the list is extensive and looks great. Desserts look tempting but our entrees were filling. Definitely a place to try when hankering for authentic Mexican. Chef is from Mexico City. 1 app and 2 mains w 20% tip, $86.
Heard about La Patrona from a coworker of mine. I can't believe I didn't find out about this place sooner because IT'S FREAKING AWESOME. The food is top notch - good portion sizes and it tastes amazing! The horchata? Made in house, and you can totally taste the difference; no chalkiness to it whatsoever. I'd buy it by the jug if I could. They do, however, sell their sauces by the bottle. We were there on a Wednesday, which was tamales night, available in house or you can take some frozen ones home. (tamales got the two thumbs up from my husband) Nice, efficient service. The servers are Spanish speaking, which I feel lends to the authenticity of the restaurant. I would most definitely come here again, even just for the horchata. Ample free parking. Free wifi available.
I was in the Sherwood park area and found this place on google with high reviews. My partner and I were able to get a seat at their community table (a long table where you share with other customers) without any reservations. We tried the Asada Torta with fried egg and the Suadero Taco. Both were delicious!! The meat was juicy and flavourful. The sauces complemented the food. The portions were filling and reasonable for the price. It's definitely ranks high among the Mexican restaurants in the city. The only problem with my experience was the long wait time. We probably waited 30-40 minutes for the food. The server apologized to us for the long wait time and said it isn't usually like this. I hope she's right because I do intend to come back in the future.
My first time here. I love the ambiance of this place. Great music and it smells delicious. Ordered a Paloma. It was the best one I've ever had. Next time a spicy margarita. Had their chips, salsa and guacamole. I tried the tortilla soup, I found it too spicy for my taste, with all that said I will definitely go back and try some of the other amazing food. Then to end our dinner we got their churros. I love that they are served hot with a chocolate mousse. Perfect way to end the meal.

Food took a while to come out but should be expected around five o'clock on a Saturday so with that in mind, make sure to give a drink or two a go. Our server mentioned the feature cocktail enough to pique the interest of the whole table. If you're driving or simply don't partake settle into good conversation with your dining mates, because it's as cozy as can be. Location is charmingly small but adds quality intimacy, it's a tad dark and so are the menus so don't fear your flashlight if you forgo the QR code menu option. If you look to the right of the bar you can glimpse the inner workings of the kitchen, they do well to hide their secrets despite the view. In short, try it before everyone else does. They're doing big things in a small space.
Really enjoy this restaurant. The food is absolutely solid. We didn't realized on Tuesdays that they have a taco platter for $44 which allows you to pick 3 different kinds of tacos. Great way to try a few kinds for a great price. We enjoyed the chorizo, al pastor and shrimp. The shrimp is breaded just so you are aware. We picked it because we wanted lighter option but it ended up being the heaviest! Not a complaint, just an observation. We added cheese but I don't think the al pastor or shrimp needed it as they were delightful on their own! Chorizo and cheese were a match made in heaven. We had the fresh chips, salsa and guacamole to start. It made me feel like I was taken away to Mexico. Delightful flavours. We sat in the patio and it was quiet and lovely. The inside is so fun and has a very cool vibe. Service was friendly and prompt. Food came out very quick in our opinion. Will be back.

Today they were advertising their empanada Thursday special so we decided to try for lunch, we were not disappointed. We ordered two empanadas each and got free churros for dessert, it was more than enough food for the two of us. The service is always amazing, the people working are super friendly and super helpful.

Located in a strip mall by Rosie's in the Park. Was seated almost immediately as I arrived shortly before the dinner rush. Food is delicious! Ordered the Pescado (Haddock Tacos) with a side of rice. Really small portion of rice though. Not sure if that's typical for here or perhaps they were running low...? Also had the Lime Mojito. Refreshing and not too sweet. Just the way I prefer it. Service was great. Place filled up pretty fast shortly after. Just as I had finished my meal. Ambience was pleasant. Mexican music...not too loud. Prices are pretty decent but the drinks are on the spendier side. read more

La Patrona deserves a standing ovation... and possibly an award for making me forget I was full. The margaritas were absolutely dangerous--in the best way possible. That upside-down Corona had me feeling like I was solving a physics problem just to get every last drop. The food? Incredible. We had the halibut fish tacos and it was fresh, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The barbacoa, and judging by how quickly it disappeared, I don't think he came up for air between bites. The atmosphere was lively, the staff were friendly, and every single thing we ordered hit the mark. The only downside? We now have to explain to every other Mexican restaurant why they just don't measure up anymore. We'll definitely be back... probably wearing stretchy pants and pretending we're "just stopping in for one margarita." read more

I've been here twice now and even though the visits were far apart, the food has stayed constantly tasty. Today was a gathering of 3 for Christmas lunch. I called ahead to make a lunch reservation (they recommend it for lunch and I would too if you have more than 2 people) as I recall how busy I was last time I went for supper (we had made a reservation back then then too). It wasn't packed at lunch but the place was definitely busy for the first Saturday of the new year. There's raised booths along the wall and all the other seating is regular table height. This is a smaller restaurant but has tasteful decor, fast service and very tasty food. We started with the totopos (chips, guac & salsa) while we waited for our meals. There's plenty of chips served with this and let's just say no guac was left behind! We did our very best to finish the salsa by adding it to our lunch options. My friends ordered enchiladas de pollo and tortilla soup. I went with the al pastor tacos (comes with 5 smaller tacos and some beans on the side). The hot sauce on the side was deliciously spicy & sweet. They also had additional hot sauce on the table which for even me that likes spice, was definitely on the hotter side of life. So apply with caution if you decide to raise the spiciness level. My friends kept on commenting on how fresh everything tasted. We were all very happy with our selections and very full. Yet somehow found a little room to share tres leches cake. So glad we did as it was the perfect way to end the meal! Light, fluffy cake that seemed to be soaked in milk and topped with a generous portion of real whipped cream and fruit. The food and portions were really good, but I do feel that this place is a treat and not a regular restaurant I'd select for lunch due to the price point. read more

It checks all the boxes. Nice cozy dining atmosphere. Friendly staff. Good food albeit a tad more expensive, and extra to get meat with the meal, but it is authentic. Their web page menu prices are out of date. Our meals were $2 and $3 dollars more than quoted on the web page for take out. Good for couples. Mexican Music. Nice view into the stainless steel kitchen. Chile relleno is very bland and could use a bit of spice. Enchiladas medium sauce has some kick. Cocktails and beers. Popular for lunch. Even a couple small TVs if you insist on not missing a game. Has a small patio. read more

Me and my son were visiting from Southern California and decided to try this restaurant. La Patrona was excellent, everything we had was really good. We had the Birria Quesadilla, Cubano Torta, along with the guacamole and chips. Everything was excellent. read more

Chorizo Con Queso $19 w/ fried egg ($2) and habanero relish ($1) La Patrona 2 Athabascan Avenue Sherwood Park, Alberta I had the most incredible sandwich last night at La Patrona. You need this Chorizo Con Queso torta in your life. I got it with a fried egg and habanero relish, resulting in more agony for my long-suffering chittar-hole, but whatever. The standard edition comes with feta, mozzarella, avocado, tomatoes, refried beans, chipotle mayo, and Mexican-style pork sausage. I feel this thing was tailor-made for me because it's rare for a Mexican dish not to rely on cilantro and onions. Without these dreaded ingredients, I can enjoy Mexican cuisine's beauty and don't have to worry about the aftertaste of soap and brown-guy body odour. Unfortunately, my taste receptors are unresponsive to avocado, but the nutrient-rich fruit is good for my bones, vision, and heart. And it reduces my chances of getting cancer and depression. Other than the avocado, I savoured every element of the sandwich. Each bite resulted in these reddish juices, comprised of heavenly grease and salt, trickling down my fingers and wrists. Rather than cleaning my hands with a napkin, I excused myself, taking a trip to my car to lick the sticky fluids off my hirsute hands - it was delicious, and I'm not ashamed of my savagery. I then sanitized my hands before re-entering the restaurant for dessert. You have to try this torta. It's mind-blowingly good. And it was soundtracked by Enrique Iglesias's Hero, giving me all the feels and taking my breath away. My Rating: 4.99/5 read more

I'll give 4/5 stars for the food and awesome experience every other time I have come here! 4 stars because last Sunday was really bad service. Aside from taking our orders and bringing out the food, the waitress ignored us the entire time. When we needed our water refilled, we had to ask at the front, and same thing when we needed our bill. Very odd as it wasn't that busy. The food, however, as always, was amazing. read more

It's been awhile since I've been to La Patrona. I went here on a Valentine's date with my boyfriend, he'd never been before but it was just as wonderful as I remember. I ordered the shrimp tacos with a lime margarita. Both were amazing. The shrimp were beer battered on shredded lettuce pickled onion with this Mayo Chipotle drizzle it came with a side of guacamole and rice. So so good! They even had live music that weekend so it was basically like we went to Mexico in Sherwood park! My boyfriend was really impressed with the food and service and said he was happy I suggested this place for date night. read more

If i have to sum up my experience of this place, i will have only one word: WOW. This place has been on my list since long time so finally, i decided to check this off from my list on Friday by planning a dinner date with my husband. Suggestion: Please always reserve your table before by calling them because you might not get the table without reservation here. Order: Hugo Tacos: How can you miss tacos when you visit a mexican restaurant and i believe they are the heart of mexican food. We had Hugo Tacos and were really satisfied with the portion and your stomach doesn't feel really heavy as it will feel after having cubana. Cubana: Tried one of their most ordered dish from Tortas and something different. I loved the combined flavour of garlic sausage, ham, avocado, refined beans and mozzarella served in a freshly baked bread paired with delicious pickles. It was quite of a heavy meal well. Churros: There is no chance to miss a dessert (especially when it is churros) after a hearty and delicious meal. We ordered for 2 churros served with finger licking chocolate cream or sauce garnished with mint leaves and believe me, they were extremely luscious. Wow! If you want some top notch Mexican you have to go here! What a hidden gem! Amazing amazing food! Our friends treated us here with a gift card- funny enough the gift card didn't have the name of the restaurant on it just their symbol. We had a selection of their tacos and they were all fantastic tasty morsels with great flavours and unique combinations. From the refreshing pineapple cilantro to pickled onion and pork. We started with the Totopos, the fresh tortilla chips were a great appetizer to start us off. We also had the Hugo Taco which has delightful flavour and was the groups favourite. We definitely recommend it. There is parking as this place is part of a complex. This place started as a food truck but I'm glad it has a set space. It was a little tight quarters inside the restaurant itself but we still managed to squeeze in with our stroller although I wouldn't recommend it for the next person. No baby change table here from what I saw either. All in all still a fabulous joint we will definitely go back! read more

What started out as a popular food truck (Casa12Doce) became an actual restaurant in 2017, helmed by a chef who was born and raised in Mexico City. Sherwood Park's La Patrona is another great example of the vibrant Latin community that the Edmonton area is fortunate enough to boast. Voted #1 Worth the Trip: Sherwood Park 2018 in VUE Weekly, I was really looking forward to making the (short) trip myself. The restaurant is located in a particularly nice and rustic-looking shopping area where a lot of beautiful wood is used on the façade and as beams. The inside is alive with colours while also maintaining a very cool exposed-concrete-and-tin kind of industrial look. There are nods to Mexico everywhere, from the beautiful Día de Muertos skulls to the amazing music playing through the speakers. I loved the hanging string lights and the overall lively atmosphere. The staff was incredibly warm and friendly and made us feel right at home. The vibe of the restaurant demanded a Traditional Margarita (El Jimador, Triple Sec, fresh lime shaken over ice then strained - $9.00)! They have a bunch of great cocktails on the menu and of course plenty of cerveza, but it had to be the margarita for me. They offer it in four different flavours (classic lime being the original) and they also rotate a special flavour of the day. On my visit they were doing a spicy mango one and I had to give that a try. If you ever see a margarita made in one of those slush machines - just know that that isn't the way that a real margarita is made. At first sip this drink was like a punch to the face! It was both boozy and spicy and didn't shy away from being packed full of huge flavours. I loved the spicy rim and the actual pieces of jalapeno floating within the drink. The juicy mango flavour worked really well to create that coveted spicy/sweet combination. Not for the faint of heart, this margarita is the real deal. They also serve horchata, one of my favourite non-alcoholic drinks. I look forward to trying their version in the future. The food menu was full of lots of things that I wanted to eat and I began with the Para Empezar section to get started. They've got a tortilla soup, which I always love (must try next time!), but I had to select the Queso Fundido (Melted cheese in a piping hot skillet served with wheat tortillas for dipping and fresh salsa Mexicana - $21.00) which literally translates to "melted cheese." You know that you want that. It comes in one of those sizzling cast iron skillets that will definitely burn you. But I can think of nothing better than a bubbling pan of hot melty cheese with golden brown crispy edges. I absolutely loved the ultra-fresh tortillas, which are very clearly housemade and have a beautiful light flavour. The molten, oozing cheese was surprisingly herbaceous and I was caught off guard by all of the delicious seasoning that goes into this dish. The bright salsa was a wonderful way to bring in a fresh component. Each bite was a delight. If you're a cheese lover (who isn't?!) this is most certainly the dish of your dreams. La Patrona is well stocked with many types of tacos and tortas to choose from. They've got eleven different tacos and eight different tortas, each one sounding delicious in its own way. Most people probably select from this part of the menu and I'm sure that it's a solid choice every time. However, I was interested in the De Mi Casa section of the menu which seems to be where the true authentic offerings are found, straight from the chef's home and heritage. The chile relleno sounded absolutely incredible and it's what I will be ordering on my next visit. This time I went with the Enchiladas de Pollo (Corn tortillas stuffed with seasoned chicken topped with your choice of Salsa Tomate (mild), Salsa Verde (medium) or Roja (spicy) sauce. Baked with cheese and served with onion, tomato, avocado and cilantro - $24.00) since I loves me an enchilada. A classic Mexican dish, I always enjoy this saucy, cheesy, savoury mixture of hot and fresh flavours. I had mine with the medium salsa verde, which added a beautiful green hue to the entire plate. The corn tortillas had a nice bite to them, enveloping the shredded chicken within. I enjoyed the heat and freshness from the salsa verde very much and made sure to cover each bite with plenty of it. The melty, gooey cheese was one of the best parts and the tomato and avocado did a nice job of balancing out the dish. The portion is large and the flavours feel quite authentic. The dessert menu at La Patrona is awesome because they've got all of the hits! Churros? Yup. Tres leches cake? My favourite! But the most unique item is their Chocolate Jalapeno Cake (House made chocolate cake layered with jalapeno jelly, chocolate ganache and a coffee crumble.
