Salsa & Chips $9.50
Kristin K.

Came out with the whole fam jam (Gramma, Hubby, and both kiddos) tonight & so disappointed :-( We were served like warm water, had to ask for silverware & napkins, and while our main server was friendly there were a couple not so cheerful ones walking around. The volume was super loud inside - think having to almost tell to hear each other. Chips and salsa was $9.50 and came with just a handful of chips. They asked if we wanted more - which we did - but didn't find out until we were paying that there was an additional $4 charge for more chips! Also, both chip portions were 50% crumbles or pieces broken to about 1/4 chip size - pretty hard to eat with salsa. My 4 year old ordered rice and beans for $4 and man were they bland. He literally asked if they forgot to put in the flavor :-( The Yucatan Pescado fish tacos (2 for $11) were the best thing we had but nothing to write home about. My daughter enjoyed the Gringo Beef tacos (2 for $11) but the price still seems high. They were super drippy as well. Chicken al pastor tacos (2 for $10) were super bland and all 3 adults in our group elected to add hot sauce to these. We also shared street corn - 3 ears for $11. This was probably my favourite item here. Service was slow and hit and miss depending on who was helping you. Overall, I'd give the food 3 stars but the value was poor. 6 tacos, 1 bowl beans/rice, 3 corns, and chips/salsa - $70 I'd rather go to Tres Carnales or Calle Mexico any day - same prices but authentic and super flavorful. Cerdos - I don't think we'll be back.

Friday's = time to try a new restaurant for lunch. Bonus, new lunch buddy! We decided to check out Cerdo Tacos + Tequila, sister restaurant to the uber popular Jack's Burger Shack because Mexican options are few and far in between this oasis we call Edmonton. Okay, technically Cerdo's is in St. Albert but come on, it's pretty much the same. We arrived around 12:15pm and the place was packed. We had to sit in the bar area but eventually were able to snag a table as the lunch rush slowly filed out. Man, I don't know if this is normally the case but service was slooooow. Took forever for us to order and even longer to get our food. I don't normally complain (that much) about service but we only ordered two dishes! Here's a breakdown of their menu along with prices (starters, huevo bowls and tacos). Seriously, I really, really, REALLY don't like when restaurant websites don't list their prices. - Nachos ($13.50) with the Saltroom's chorizo ($3.00) - corn tortilla chips, jack cheese, tomato, green onion, jalapeno with sour cream and salsa as dipping sauces. The chips were crunchy and had that satisfying bite to it but the cheese could have used some better layering skills (it pretty much was all clumped into the middle). The jalapenos weren't spicy at all but gave the dish some colour. We added some chorizo - a tad expensive for a few pieces of chorizo, although it was tasty. The nachos were decent but we felt like you could make these at home pretty easily. Factor in the price, it's definitely overpriced for what it is. - Chicken al pastor ($9.00) - guajillo marinated chicken, pineapple, cilantro and radish. The tacos come in pairs, topped with cabbage and onion and with your choice of either corn (gluten free) or flour tortillas. I don't understand their choice of offering two tortillas over the standard three. Given that, the tortillas were stuffed with a good amount of chicken. Cilantro was fresh. Pineapple was itty bitty pieces - a few small sliced pieces would have gave it a nice contrasting sweetness. The chicken wasn't bad. Overall, the taco was missing something - a kick to it, a Mexican hot sauce or something like that would have helped. We didn't see the hot sauce bottle until after we ate the whole taco though. Oops, our bad but they should have had something in it originally! It's nice to see a more diverse selection of food options available in St. Albert. I know they have mad love for chains over here so I applaud the owners for bringing something new and different. I will have to try a few more dishes to see if my opinion changes of Cerdo's. As for now, decent spot but not my first choice in town when I'm craving Mexican food.

The rooftop patio is a must for hot summer days! Their Bulldogs are delicious, but they can also just make a classic or flavored Margarita for you! The tacos are delicious and never dry or bland! I highly recommend the Carnitas or Shrimp tacos!

In March, St. Albert welcomed the new Cerdos Tacos + Tequila, a Mexican eatery located in the central Perron District and heart of the city. Sister restaurant to the neighboring Jack's Burger Shack, Cerdos Tacos + Tequila offers a wide variety of starters, huevo bowls, tacos and a drinks menu that will make tequila enthusiasts and margarita lovers proud. Taking over the space of the short-lived Feast & Lounge, the owners discovered that demand for the comfort food-oriented menu was less than expected what with Jack's Burger Shack right there. With a passion towards Mexican cuisine and tacos, the space was reinvented and reincarnated to give you Cerdos! Last month I spent one of my few available lunches to check Cerdos out. I recruited my friends Josh and Jesse (two hungry fellows!) to help me with the spread. The P&C Shrimp tacos (think the Chinese takeout peaches and cream shrimp) were surprisingly delicious! Shredded cabbage and slivered almonds gave the taco a nice crunch, while cold marinated shrimp was refreshing and cooked perfectly. The plantain and peach puree added a touch of sweetness, a summer-patio kind of taco if I ever had one. Despite this taco being originally high on my "errr, I don't know" list, it ended up being one of my favourites. Pork carnitas is a must order at any taqueria. It's a standard in my books. The pork was well cooked, crisp edges and the salsa verde was delicious. More salsa verde please! I don't joke around when I'm determined to order the whole menu. Chicken Al Pastor and Gringo Beef tacos were also on our list. The chicken was marinated with guajillo chiles, a flavour that I wished pulled through a little bit more. The pineapples were a nice touch but became the predominant flavour for me. The Yucatan Salmon tacos were a favourite amongst my tablemates. The spiced rubbed salmon were cut in bite sized pieces, making it easy to get a bite full every time. Ah... the chorizo. At the time, Cerdos Tacos + Tequila was using the local D'Arcy's Meat Market's chorizo, one of my favourite products from them. Loved the fresh guacamole and definitely a re-order item for me. Since my visit, they have switched to using chorizo from The Salt Room by Chef Tony Krause. Love the fact that they're supporting local businesses and restauranteurs! Our last taco for the day, the Cachete Beef Tacos. I was really excited about this one, a Mexican oregano and cinnamon braised beef with queso fresco and salsa caliente (tomatoes, habanero, jalapeno, cilantro, and lime). Perhaps my hopes were too high, I really wanted to taste every single described flavour profile! A delicious taco, nevertheless, but I'd love for a pop of cinnamon and the salsa caliente to hit me with all it's got! All taco orders come in a set of two, with a choice of corn (gluten-free) or flour tortillas. My personal preference: the flour tortillas. Tacos range from $7.50 to $12.50 and all can be made "Quesadilla style" for an extra $3. I would love to see more of the house made salsa on all tacos or perhaps put on the side for diners to add on at their leisure. Margaritas (also available as non-alcoholic) and cocktails (non-tequila lover options also available) were on point. Service and the kitchens were fantastic, given our large order and the start of a lunch rush. Overall, a great space and atmosphere for St. Albertans and a with a wide variety of tacos, something to please even the pickiest! Happy for a great alternative to the much-loved Tres Carnales (still my fav!) that can be a little inaccessible for those who don't live in the Edmonton core. When the St. Albert Farmer's Market reopens in June, Cerdos Tacos + Tequila will be a fantastic spot for a meal and a lovely addition to their downtown area. In addition to Jack's Burger Shack, the two restaurants anchor the small complex and no doubt will make the people hungry for more!

This place really is good! I am so glad I stopped in. I ordered the shrimp tacos this time, and a shot of silver tequila;) looking at the menu, I believe the red snapper tacos will be my next adventure there:)

Chorizo tacos on corn tortillas

Came for a weekday lunch and was surprised they weren't super busy. The guy behind the bar was our server and he was great. Super friendly and a pleasure to deal with. We were told they didn't have chicken or fish that day, so we went with the migas huevos bowl ($12.50) and the chorizo tacos ($12) on corn tortillas. Hearty portion of chorizo in both orders, and it was very tasty and flavourful. The bowl needed a bit more flavour - I wish it was served with cilantro and a wedge of lime since I think it would take it over the top. There were lots of chips and the egg was soft and fluffy. They also didn't have fresh avocado, so they used guacamole on our orders (guess it's not made in house?). Overall, we enjoyed our meals and the service. We've been here numerous times and have always had a pleasant experience. It's a good alternative to having to drive downtown if you're towards the West end.

Today's special : Tortilla Soup & Chorzio Taco.

We enjoyed this place. It has a lovely ambiance. The tv in the corner showing Mexican wrestling was an impressive touch. It does seem more geared towards a lunch environment than a dinner environment. The music was a little loud for my tastes, but we could still talk. We both had the special. We found the food very good and very filling. Good price for what you get. Found the service to be a bit on the slow side, but the waitress was nice and friendly. Overall, we enjoyed the place and would definitely come back.

We got the tomato, mushroom and brie bruschetta. Mushroom one had goat cheese which I dislike but other table mates said was delicious. Tomato one was good. Brie was my favorite. Not easy to share with the table which made it very awkward and not everyone got to try some. You can cut them into about 3 pieces which still left 1 of us not being able to try it. I got the Spaghetti Carbonara: 9/10. Very good, pasta was cooked well, there was enough sauce. Good flavor. Boyfriend got the special which was cheese stuffed ravioli in rose sauce - 10/10. Loved that it comes with extra protein (chicken). Friend got Veal Scaloppine: very garlic-y. Friends said she would not get again. But very generous portion of vegetables - broccolini, peppers, carrots. And the half of a baked potato came with cheese baked on top which looked amazing. Friend got the lasagna and loved it, reports it is not spicy and has a lot of meat (ground) in it. They brought over a free chocolate mousse dessert with a sparkler as well. Overall very nice pasta place.

Nice place, feels more upscale, more romantic. Nice patio too but it was going to rain so we opted to sit inside. Tried the Crispy Pickles. For $11 they were reasonably priced. Enough for 4 people as a small snack. Nice light batter, did not taste too greasy. Lovely dill dip. 9/10. I got the Honey Fried Chicken Sandwich with yam fries. Yam fries were 10/10 - super crispy, well salted. Chicken sandwich was a moist and well cooked but not very flavorful. Liked the honey taste. Not enough slaw in my opinion but the garlic mayo was nice. Bun was super soft and fresh. Overall not the best or worst chicken sandwich. 8/10. Friend got the Cure. Fries were cooked well. Bottom ones were a touch extra salty they reported. gravy was very nice and light. poached eggs were WAY overcooked and totally hard boiled. Friend got the Central Breakfast sandwich. Liked this. Egg was still a touch runny which was expected and desired. Too bad it does not come with any sides so friend was hungry after. Dessert we tried the House-made doughnuts. Tasted fresh (not piping hot htough). Cinnamon sugar coating was nice. Very doughy but not raw. Dip was super watery and tasteless. Would have preferred more smaller donuts to increase how much sugar topping you get per bite. Overall I would not get again as they were pretty meh.

This restaurant, even before you sit down, tells you that your table is reserved 5 1/2 hours later (sometimes they inform you it's reserved for the next day). Very strange, I guess they want you gone even before you sit down. At first, I thought our group got that special treatment, but no, the hostess makes sure every group shares in the awkward experience. This whole interaction sets the vibe for the service to follow, and yes, it's very strange. It's like the restaurant wants your business, but then doesn't want you even there. Interesting business operations plan. The food is alright, a little overpriced for the actual quality you are getting. Personally, avoid this place, it pretends to be sort of high-end, but it has ghetto service. Go to Earls instead, a restaurant that actually wants your business.
