This is our most favourite Mexican restaurant. It's a family business and a lot of people love the place so it can get very busy. It's better to make reservations before going there. Edmonton is home to a lot of incredible options when it comes to Mexican food but the amigos have been around since 2005 and are probably one of the earlier additions of this cuisine to the city's food scene. And yes, there really are three amigos - three brothers, actually. The Rosales brothers are from Oaxaca and have been treating Edmonton to their vibrant flavours for nearly twenty years. It's no surprise that the Edmonton Journal voted them as Favourite Mexican Restaurant 2023 after becoming such a long-lasting and trusted name in Mexican fare. What better day of the week to visit a bumpin' Mexican joint than on Tuesday! Taco Tuesday, that is! I highly recommend making a reservation at Three Amigos because every time that I visit I watch people get turned away at the door because the restaurant is often full. This is especially true on a Tuesday, the day of my recent dinner. You'll find Three Amigos in a strip mall in Duggan, not far removed from all of the south side hustle and bustle. You can't possibly miss them with their awesome sign with a giant lit-up number three on it. Stepping into the space is like a portal straight to Mexico! The colours! The energy! The smells! The restaurant is positively alive with the vibration of Mexico and it's a feast for the senses. No inch of the dining area is spared from a bright splash of paint, an interesting piece of art, or something else that feels incredibly authentic. I love the corrugated tin walls, the tabletops made out of metal Corona signs, and the Latin music filling the air. And I especially love the bathrooms, which you need to see for yourself. Let's just say that they have leaned into an entire unexpected Simpsons theme down in that end of the restaurant and it's hilariously wonderful. You will certainly not be short on atmosphere at Three Amigos. The servers are warm and friendly, offering a glow of hospitality that makes every customer feel welcome. Seated at my table, I was treated to an excellent view of the entire room and I watched as each and every table filled and became occupied for the evening. I could think of no better way to start the meal than with a Horchata Aguas Frescas ($5.00) and Totopos (House made corn tortilla chips, salsa - $12.00). Horchata is my forever favourite and I order it every time (if I'm not drinking alcohol). A traditional Mexican beverage made up of white rice soaked in water and then flavoured with cinnamon. It's sweet, nutty, and milky but also somehow quite refreshing. The horchata at Three Amigos is very good, however I did find that the bottom of my drink was very dense with ground cinnamon. I found the grainy sips to be a bit much and could have used for the cinnamon to have been dialed back a bit. The totopos seem simple enough but are not to be missed. The heaping mountain of tortilla chips are the perfect thing for everyone to munch on, and let me tell you, these housemade chips are addictive. You can tell that they taste freshly fried and are salted just the right amount. Nothing like the bagged kind from the grocery store. I also really enjoyed the three salsas that were served with the chips, each a different level of heat. The bright red one (Roja) was the mildest, while the darker red one (Diablo) was spicy, smoky, and full of deep chipotle flavour. My favourite is the creamy green salsa (Verde) which is medium in spice. The menu at Three Amigos is HUGE. It can be overwhelming to consider all of the options from starters to mains to tacos (an entire section all its own) to tortas. The best way to sample a lot of different things (especially if you're undecided) is to try the Amigo Plato (Empanada, taco dorado, tostada, gordita, chicken tinga taco, guacamole, crema, pico de gallo, refried beans, rice - $29.00), a sampler plate which consists of a surprising number of items. The food all arrived extremely quickly, and placed in front of us, this platter summed up Three Amigos in one single dish. Exciting, bursting with colours, each option enticing in its own way. I wasn't quite sure where to begin but I just started eating! The empanada, a stuffed corn pastry with chicken on the inside, was fried to a golden perfection. However, of all of the items, I did find it the least exciting. Next to the empanada was the taco dorado, a rolled fried corn tortilla stuffed with chicken and potato. The shape made it easy to eat, but again the overall flavour wasn't so interesting. Things kicked up a notch with the tostada, this crispy fried corn tortilla is topped with refried beans, braised chipotle chicken, queso fresco, avocado, and pico de gallo. I find a tostada pretty difficult to eat because as soon as you pick it up and bite it the whole thing often shatters and falls apart! But I love them anyway because you get the satisfaction of a crunchy tortilla paired with a fresh and delicious flavour combo piled high on top. The food was delicious but they definitely need a better venting system. When we got home we all had to get out of our clothes and throw them in the washer because we smelled like old grease. It was smoky in the entrance and the restaurant. Pricy as well. $4 for 6 tortillas and with the amount of food you get especially the Molcajete Flameado which is already $79 you should get at least 24 tortillas but you have to pay extra and they are small Tortillas 5" maybe. What a great find! Visited the area and without knowing what was hood stumbled across 3 Amigos. Anytime you find a little place like this with a waiting line it must be good. Took a few minutes to get in but worth it. Our table had the carne asada, enchiladas and quesadilla. Nothing was left on any plate. Service was a bit slow and our server was a forgetful (never received our chips and the soda arrived half way through the meal) which is the only reason it's 4 and not 5 stars. I've been to The Three Amigos a couple of times over the years. For their food, I've tried their Fiesta de Tacos, which contains Al pastor con piña (Pork), Tequila Limon Y Pollo (Chicken), Suadero (Beef), and Pescado (Fish - Snapper). The food has been quite good. The Al pastor con piña (Pork) and Tequila Limon Y Pollo (Chicken) tacos both stood out the most. The Pescado was also worth noting, but it had too much batter. Kinda of a hidden gem. This Mexican restaurant offers a variety of options for almost every diet. Located in the south end the restaurant has a very nice vibe and decoration inside. You can smell the restaurant from the parking lot and it smells delicious! Once you walk in you are welcomed by the bar and a beautiful Mexican space with cool murals. It definetly felt like a hip modern joint which normally is in downtown or whyte Avenue. But instead its located in a little obscure shopping complex in the southside. I fell in love with the space and it would be such a cool place to drink with a bunch of friends. I ordered the Bison tongue tacos bc they were highly recommended. I took one bite and was like....mmmmmmmmmmmmmm They were unique and so flavourful and aomething definetly worth trying as I'm pretty sure I could not replicate this at home. All the ingredients were fresh so all the flavours mixed perfectly for every bite. The accompanied rice and beans were flavourful and not so bland as most side dishes are. Next I had some churros. Which were light crispy and not overly sweet. The chocolate sauce was perfect for dipping and not overly sweet. It really was made perfect. The drink I had was phenomenal. I honestly was licking my cup bc that tamarind syrup was delicious. Lol. I could have several of these. Unique with a sweet and sour twist which was like nothing I ever had before. Ordered the chicken and beef fajitas but the chicken was too salty. The beef and the rest of the dish tasted good so I only asked for a portion of chicken to replace the salty one. Was told that no one had complained about the dish all day and that sometimes we have different tastes and that's alright. They didn't even offer to taste the chicken. I paid $40 (including the tip for the waitress because it wasn't her fault) and left the majority of the food there. I've been here before and I've always had a good experience until today. The Three Amigos is tucked away inside a strip mall. But don't let this detour you from visiting! The food is delicious and the portion sizes are generous with fair prices. This restaurant gets very busy on the weekends, so it is highly recommended to make a reservation. I usually go on Saturdays and they have live music, which is very fun but it makes it difficult to have conversations. I love that this restaurant is family friendly and can accommodate large groups. The Birria Quesadilla and Molcojete Flameado are some of my favorite dishes. The Molcojete Flameado is $65 but is meant to be shared between 2 or more people. On Wednesday this dish is on sale for $35! Great value and delicious. It is a flaming bowl consisting of steak, chicken, queso cheese with chorizo, lobster tail and prawns. Also don't miss trying their house made salsas. They are full of flavor and come in different flavors/spice levels. You can buy the salsa to take home, available in multiple different sizes. The Three Amigos is family owned and family run by brothers from Oaxaca Mexico. Can we say authentic?! So when Cinco de Mayo rolled around I knew that I had to support this taco spot! My group of friends and I have a tradition to eat tacos in the park together to chat about Mexico and how much we love their culture and miss being able to go there. I called at 2:00 right when they opened but there was no answer. I could only imagine that they were already super busy on cinco de mayo. So I contacted them via Instagram dms (probably not the most preferred method) but they're super active on IG so I knew they'd see it and they did! They called me back not long after I sent them a message. I was able to place my order and schedule it for 5:30. He mentioned they were absolutely slammed with pre-orders but they were doing their best to be able to serve everyone authentic tacos for Cinco! When I arrived at 5:45 to pick up my order (figured I would give them an extra 15 mins just in case) my order was not ready. They made it fresh when I arrived which was good. It did take a bit longer than normal as my order was ready by 6:30 but I can let that slide because it was Cinco de Mayo after all! We ordered 15 carnitas tacos and it came to $75 plus tax + tip. These tacos were absolutely FULL of meat!! They were almost hard to hold closed! Everyone was so impressed with the taste, the size, the salsas that are all made in house, that the girls all said they would definitely be visiting The Three Amigos next time they wanted tacos! So glad I could expose them to a taste of this traditional restaurant. They recently came out with their own branded beer that they brewed together with local brewery Analog Brewing. I haven't actually been into 3 Amigos is quite a few years - but I recently contacted them for a catering order for work. They were so pleasant to deal with and very responsive. I had ordered 19 taco meals. Each one came with 3 tacos, beans, and rice. It was so filling and SO delicious. Honestly - it's two days later and I'm still thinking about it! I'll be heading in to dine with them again very soon! Thanks guys :) you made me look like a rockstar when I handed out those meals! Visited for the first time for a Yelp Elite event and wow was this place ever awesome. The atmosphere is very cool, almost like going to a Señor Frogs in Cabo or Puerto Vallarta, the decor is great. The flavour of the tacos were A+, I would easily say in my top 5 for best tacos I have ever had (and I have eaten a lot of tacos). The customer service was fantastic, we went in during the pandemic so we got our food to go as we have done pretty much for the entire year at other places. The people working made sure we have everything we needed before we left. The takeout food also held up very well as it travelled from South Edmonton to Sherwood Park. Three Amigos has new vegan dishes (that aren't on the menu yet). We were absolutely blown away. SO much flavour, SO creative! Today we had the gorditas, molletes, and burrito w/added Corona-sauteed mushrooms. All veganized. They are the nicest people, and the ingredients are amazing. House made pickled vegetables & salsa, Good Stock's Prairie Melt for the cheese. Ugh it is amazing. The gorditas are stuffed with Melt & veggies with pickled veg & salsa verde, the molletes are on fresh bakery bread that tasted like it was flame-grilled because it has an incredible smokey flavour, the smothered burrito w/ Corona sauteed mushrooms is delicious. The food is tasty but our experience was disappointing. Two of the items we ordered were not available and the server had to check with the kitchen on two other items. When we first sat down the server came and introduced herself and told us that the Molcojete Flameado that is normally $65 is only $35 today because they're out of lobster tail but it was replaced with prawns. This sharing plate has 10 items on it and it's meant to share between 3-4 diners. She asked for our drink order and she wasn't sure if they had Aguas Frescas Jamaica and had to confirm with the bartender that it was available. Not the best start but we weren't planning to order the massive sharing plate and they ended up having the drink so no harm no foul. We ordered two Sopa de Tortilla (tortilla soup) and the server left to ask the kitchen if it was available. She returned happy to announce that it was in fact in stock. We then ordered two entree taco plates: Puerco Frito (crispy fried pork) and Pescado (deep fried red snapper) and a side of guacamole. The complimentary deep fried tortillas came out with two sauces that were tasty and had a spicy zing. I had ordered a Michelada Real which their menu describes as a Corona beer with Clamato and fresh lime juice with a Chamay & Tajin for garnish. I had no clue what that garnish was but the rest of it sounded like a refreshing red eye. When the drink arrived the garnish appeared to be a dry pasta noodle shaped like a straw with tajin spices packed around it like clay. I wasn't sure what to do with this cuz it didn't function like a straw and it wasn't adding anything to the drink. When our tortilla soups arrived the server told us that the kitchen was out of the crispy fried pork for the tacos we ordered. This was quite upsetting because we were not told when we placed the order. Now we were expected to order a replacement on the fly while the server waited so she could get the order in ASAP. We chose the carnitas but we were let down because that was one item we were looking forward to. I lived close to 3 Amigos for over 10 years and never went and wow, I regret all the missed meal opportunities... It's so good! What a hidden gem in the Duggan strip mall. Latin food is easily in my top 3 cuisines... we travel to Mexico frequently, and love everything about that place- food, people, culture, music. I must say that a trip to 3 Amigos definitely helped us reminisce. The decor, the mariachi singer.... We thoroughly enjoyed dining in. The food portions were very generous. The fish tacos were huge. Everything was flavourful. We liked the hot salsas a lot, especially the green ones. Everything was hot, fresh, looked and smelled great. Excellent presentation!! I was reading some older reviews on the way to the restaurant, and people had said the service wasn't great, but our server was such a sweetheart. Meh. I didn't quite love this place nor did I hate it; it was pretty much the definition of "mediocre," though many abuelitas would be very offended at the food served here. We ordered the gorditas to start, tequila lime chicken tacos, carne asada, and the Mexican hot chocolate. The gorditas weren't bad, they were very generous with the filling and the carnitas were pretty good. The chicken tacos, however, were quite disappointing. The chicken was extremely dry and you couldn't really taste the lime flavour. It was kind of bland and I wouldn't really recommend it.The tortillas were good quality though. Carne asada. I was most disappointed with this staple. The beef was tough and hard to chew, it was over cooked and dry. It was also really bland and needed some seasoning. The Mexican hot chocolate saved our experience at 3 Amigos. This was the best hot chocolate I've ever had. You could tell they used real chocolate and there was a hint of spice to it. This is a must order if you ever decide to come here to eat. Overall, my experience at 3 Amigos was mixed. The portions are quite small for what you pay for and the food wasn't the best. If this restaurant was downtown or on Whyte Ave I might not be so surprised by how good it was. I just didn't expect such a fine restaurant in a suburban strip mall. Three Amigos is not far from home and has been here for a while but somehow my keen eye for great places to eat missed it. The server greeted us as soon as we walked in and then checked our Covid-19 passport. I brought my wife and son along to enjoy the experience and lunch. I ordered Chorizo Tacos and my wife ordered Al Pastor Taco. They are similar except for the meat. My son had Birria Quesadilla and it looked very interesting. This was the first time that I've enjoyed refried beans. For dessert my wife ordered Halado Frito but it was my Monte Crusto that got all the attention. It looks huge but is really quite light and easy to share. I enjoyed everything thoroughly and will be back. I went to culinary school with Puerto Ricans and this reminded me of that food. Came to Three Amigos for the first time FINALLY last weekend for a quick date lunch with the hubs. We arrived early for our reservation to find the restaurant empty - no problem. But I here on evenings you can be turned away. The staff was friendly and the atmosphere was cute and quaint with lots of love and effort put into making you feel like you actually in Mexico. The food was pretty darn good. You gotta remember that I'm originally from the US so I'm used to darn good Mexican food but this is right up there with the best I've found in Edmonton. They have daily specials for $10 so be sure to ask your server. Lunch came with one complementary basket of homemade tortilla chips and salsa - Mmm... fresh is always good. I had a lime margarita and it, too, was among the best I've had in Edmonton. The burritos and fajitas were good but could've used more meat. Everything was fresh tasting. I would have enjoyed some more salsa options - especially some spicier options! It's located in a strip mall a bit out of the way - not somewhere you would pass just running around town. So if you like authentic Mexican, be sure to bookmark this place so you won't lose the address :-) I would definitely make the trip here again! Been there twice, have yet to have a good experience. Restaurant is very loud, the chairs and tables are uncomfortable and service is on the slow side. And worst of all, the food is not any better. First time had the Chilaquiles, a dish with tortilla chips that were extremely soggy with a pasta-like consistency. Maybe it's supposed to be like that, but if so, the menu description didn't explain it so I couldn't know. If I'd known they were that soggy, I wouldn't have ordered it cause it was not tasty at all. Second time had the Burritos Nortenos, two burritos in a "spicy" green salsa. Dish was very bland, and the burritos were smaller than the ones you can get at Taco Bell. So the food IS nice, not the best Mexican I have had but it's certainly ok. Maybe even worth a second visit, which we foolishly gave them. My problem with this place (and apparently the problem of MANY other people) is that the service is absolutely atrocious, and they KNOW it is. Hence throwing an automatic 18% gratuity on your bill, even though our table was only 6 people and it wasn't mentioned anywhere that this would be the case. Maybe their service is so abhorrent because they know they will pocket an above average tip regardless of how often they top up your drinks (they didn't) bring you water (they didn't) or ensure that you have finished your appetizers before bringing your mains (they didn't) I guess fool me once shame on you, and me returning to be charged 18% on top of my meal for garbage service is shame on me. Seeing as my birthday just happens to coincide with Cinco de Mayo I like to celebrate my birthday with a liitle more Mexican flare despite the fact that there isn't a trace of Mexican in my blood whatsoever. Still questioning myself as to why I have yet to be in Mexico for my birthday either? After trying this little piece of mexico in my own backyard I was ready to throw a Fiesta! I went with friends and ordered the best tasting lime margarita I had ever tasted! It wasn't the last I ordered either! We were given some warm chips and delicious salsa to dip into while going over the menu and deciding on our entres. My friends ordered up a shrimp cocktail sort of appetizer (sorry can't remember the name of it right now) and it was absolutely delicious! I can still taste the spicy goodness in my mouth and am now developing a craving for! I ordered up a plate of enchiladas and was impressed with the serving. Not piled up and not holding back either. It was a fantastic dish and I enjoyed everything about it including the refried beans! I found the atmosphere to be nice although the tables and chairs could use a bit of an upgrade to be a little more comfortable (not that they were so uncomfortable). There was a TV in the back of the restaurant playing a video of a Mariachi band to help provide more of an authentic Mexican experience. A real mariachi band would have been better, but where the heck are you gonna find one of those on in Edmonton?
