Had a Mexican friend recommend this place and it did not disappoint. Admittedly my first impression walking in was that they did everything to scream "we are a Mexican restaurant in case you have any doubt!" This includes a luchador mask wearing manikin staring at you when you walk in. However, this may be an attempt to bring some of Mexico to Edmonton and I got used to it ... though I still didn't like the way the manikin was looking at me. We might have to work it out in the ring some day. Ordered the enchilada with green sauce. Came with mexi rice and black beans. Delicious. The spice heat was perfect. Decent size as it came with three enchiladas. Though a little pricey at 15$. All in all, I loved the atmosphere, food and it features one of the most attractive looking severs in Edmonton. I'm sold. I have eaten here probably 20 times in the last five years and since restrictions lifted I've been back five times... It is by far my favourite Mexican place in the city. Adequate parking... You're not struggling for downtown parking. You don't have the rudeness of servers like another place I reviewed pre-Covid. And the food is fantastic... The chef is superb... Authentic food with generous portions. Elvis is always so accommodating. The staff is gracious and kind. I love the food, the prices are fair and they have specials all of the time serving up interesting dishes. The Thursday night taco platter is amazing... Reduced by $16 on Thursdays. It is a feast! Make a reservation because they get exceptionally busy. They have live music on Friday nights. It's just a wonderful experience. They're not charging extra for salsa and chips at the beginning. They're not using frozen guacamole. I have reviewed a few other places and am confident that this is currently the best place in Edmonton for authentic Mexican cuisine!!! I have no idea why I haven't reviewed this place before! We used to live up the road so we ate here all the time. Since we moved away from Edmonton we haven't been able to make it back in awhile. Last night we went to celebrate my husbands birthday because that's his favourite place and we were in town. The service was good, although when my drink was empty I wasn't asked if I'd like anything else, also we had to finally go up to the front so that she would bring us our bill. I had the Tacos El Pastor. So good. The food is pretty authentic. The refried beans can look intimidating but I promise you they are delicious!! All 4 of us enjoyed our meals and my mother and sister in law enjoyed the civeche. If you're looking for some decent Mexican food, give them a try! read more

The BEST Mexican food in town. I don't even know where to start for my favourites. Their nachos to starts are delicious, they use what seems to be house made tortilla chips their appetizer platter and the fire queso. I always get the Carne Asada for an entree always so delicious. I recently tried the chocolate mole, and omg. Yum. Great drinks and even better, the churro ice cream sandwich. . Only thing I don't like, the tables. This restaurant is in the strip mall on 34th street and 106 and a little difficult to locate. The strip mall makes this restaurant unambiguous. Once inside the ambience is inviting. They have a good selection of frozen margaritas which are reasonably priced around $7.99 but the tequila is seriously lacking. The chips and salsa are fresh. They have a spicy green salsa that is spicy and delicious. Don't miss that if you are into spicy food. The portion size is adequate as a meal but prices are a tad bit steep for around $15.99. I've been visiting 3 Amigos for few years now. I've ordered different entrees but I always come back to the Pastor alambre that is grilled pork with chopped bell peppers, onions, mushrooms & cheese; it comes with a side of red rice, pico de gallo, fried black beans, salsa, sour cream and guacamole. Almost every time I've been here the owner had greeting us and help us if we need more information about an specific meal. If you want spicier sauce or more like medium, always feel free to ask for recommendations. Usually before you even finish checking the menu the server will bring you some fresh tortilla chips with hot sauce on the side. If you run out of chips or salsa, feel free to ask for a refill they will be happy to help. Some days you can have the restaurant just for your group but other times it could be packed, so it's always a good idea to make reservations. The decoration is nice, colorful and good selection of music. If you are looking for a fast food place, this is not for you, this is a restaurant to have a nice meal, to enjoy the conversation and the music, to catch up with friends and to taste the delicious margaritas. If you are in a hurry, better to order ahead and have it to go. They also have a good selection of beers and margaritas. My favorite beer here is the Negra Modelo, but If you want to try a michelada, I recommend you to order it with Corona. Parking is never an issue but the restaurant is located in the middle of School Zone, so take your time, less than 30Km/Hr between 8:00 am- 4:30 pm ;) read more

After hearing about this place from a few people in our social circles, we thought we would give it a try on 7/10/2018 around 6pm. We arrived and asked for a table for 4 (two adults and two kids), immediately noticing that it was busier than we thought it would be. Like any average restaurant goer, we automatically knew there would be a wait. We accept these things. We had never been to this place before and so we didn't quite know what to expect. We saw that it was a quaint, cute little place with limited seating. All the tables were full...got it. The hostess gave us a rude smirk and said "you don't have reservations?" with more attitude than Regina George from Mean Girls. We informed her that we did not...obviously...we came in asking if there was a table for 4. We get it. You're a busy restaurant. Your delicious tacos are in high demand. But don't treat new people coming through the door like they don't belong there. Welcome your future customers, be happy and appreciative that they walked into your establishment, and even if you have to turn them away, do so with understanding and apology. They were looking for delicious tacos and fun Mexican music afterall, and they were sad to have to have their hopes squashed. Have some humanity. We were instantly turned off. We won't be back. This was my first visit to 3 Amigos and I will likely return. The service was cheerful and genuine, our waitress was upbeat and eager to please. Not needy, hovering over your table eager, but there when you need her and not there when you want to enjoy your meal without being asked 15 times how everything is. I think her name was Sarah! The food was pretty good! Not my personal favourite Mexican joint, but still good. Portions were of decent size and I wasn't left with a wasted heaping pile of food. Atmosphere was "cute", sugar skulls and day of the dead paraphernalia donned the walls. Not overboard and tacky, but cute. It was clean and uncluttered. Their homemade salsas are fantastic! Accompanied with fresh homemade tortillas and you have yourself a perfect pair! The only downfall for this place is its location. Finally went there for a family meal after our friends recommended it. We really enjoyed it! The atmosphere and friendly service set the tone. The delicious food and drinks made the evening for us. I had a craving for tamales and hoped Three Amigos would hit the spot. Sadly, our dinner didn't live up to the quality we enjoyed in our prior visit. I adore Mexican food so I was very disappointed by this evening. They were unable to keep up with the number of diners, once seated we waited very long periods to order drinks, to get drinks, to get the complementary fresh tortilla chips and salsa, to place our order, to get our order and to get cutlery for our food. it took a long time to be very disappointed by the food and drinks. We had to ask for the salsa when our meals arrived, despite requesting extra when we ordered. The mild salsa was tasteless, and the hot was hot but lacked flavour. The food hit the table luke-warm. My tamales were disappointing, the corn dough seemed old and overly dense and the stuffing was meh. Hubby's tacos dorados (which looked a lot like flautas) looked over-fried and were also bland. The drinks were off too, my gin and soda arrived gin and 7. Milk (for the hubbies broken leg) was room temperature and tasted odd, not quite sour but not right. Maybe it was powdered milk- ick. There was live entertainment - a mariachi player serenaded the room without stoping the entire time we were there (about 2 hours). A break would have been nice. It was charming but not always exactly skillful. It's not easy to play and sing for hours on end, so I'd cut him some slack. The meal came to $38 before tip. It felt like a $12 meal without the drinks. Next time i have a tamale craving I'm headed to the west end. read more

To my fellow Yelpers, I salute you. I heard this was the place to go for authentic Mexican food and I needed to get my nacho on. I mentioned it to a friend of mine who was in dire search of a new Mexican restaurant ever since his favorite closed down. I believe I might have found him his new favorite Mexican restaurant. Upon walking in, you'll notice that they do have take out which is very assuring in case it gets too busy or you're in a rush. The dining area is quaint with deep blue walls, Mexican music videos playing on flat panel tv's and trumpets and guitars playing soothing sounds of the land below. Very nice touch indeed. Our server came by and we started off with some authentic soda, Jarrito's (which they serve at Mucho as well), and munched on some one of the finest guac and salso with warm nachos I've ever feasted upon. Glancing at their drink menus, they even carry some exotic and authentic tequila, olé! My friend ordered some tamales and I just ordered a plate of nachos with guac and chicken strips. The plate of nachos were average in size but the taste was of high calibre. The cheese was a white mozarella which was nice to see with olives and jalepenos. The chicken wasn't marinated but had a tinge of salt which tasted refreshing and heartwarming. I'm glad it wasn't too salty as I usually expect that from places like Moxies or Original Joes. With the thick guac and unique salsa, there was an edge of sincerity which did bring me back to Mexico. Although I didn't try the tamale, my friend did really savor it and claimed that Three Amigos did win him over. We drove almost all across town to come to Three Amigos. It wasn't my first choice as that was Ajucta. Unfortunately they were closed Monday and Tuesday. It wasn't even my second choice. I was going to try El Ranchero for the first time but they were closed Monday and Tuesday as well. I decided to follow some of the Yelpers and try this "recommended" restaurant. Short review, this was a huge disappointment that only got worse as the $82 bill came. Now I have absolutely no problem paying ridiculous amounts for good food. I love to eat. This was sub par, bland food at a ridiculous price. It would have been expensive at $40 and I would have felt ripped off. I'm not sure what authentic means to other Yelpers but this place was bland and overpriced. I will not go back, nor will I even mention the place to anyone I know. This is more of an actual Mexican restaurant than the gut-busting Tex-Mex places I've (unfortunately) come to associate with the genre. Hubs and I visited on a slow Sunday night. We immediately noticed a Help Wanted sign in the window, so to respond to some reviewers who commented on the poor service, at least they're aware of a need for more staff. We were instructed that they were out of steak and pozole--which was fine by me, not being a fan of beef or hominy--but I did find it odd that they were out of their Sunday night special (pozole). Even still, it was Sunday. Stuff happens. The salsa that came with our tortilla chips fell rather short of expectations, but the chips themselves were outstanding. In fact, I'd go so far as to say they're the best ones I've ever had. My husband was irritated by the small serving, but hey, we didn't have to order it, and neither of us needed to fill up on fried corn dough. It ended up being the perfect amount, at least for me (I just let him eat most of them). Our chicken entrees arrived in a timely fashion and were delicious. The chicken was succulent, and the rice and beans were fantastic. Worries about another salsa, this time a verde, coming on my entree (burritos nortenos) were put to rest--it was great. I had an awesome time at Three Amigos last night. I live pretty close by, so how had I not been here before? This place rocks. Maybe it's because I was totally starving (hello, no groceries in the house post-vacation!) but my food was killer. I had the burritos nacheros or something (don't judge me), basically two soft tortillas filled with chicken, and topped with lettuce, special salsa, and cheese. So yummy, and just the right amount of spice. The inside is really nothing special, although it was a lot bigger than I thought it would be from the outside. But great food and cold beers made the experience worth raving about. I'll definitely be back here, and I think I'll get dessert next time, too! read more

If you were to ask me, "Where would I go for the worst food in the city?" I'd direct you to this place. Decor was quaint, albeit quite dark for the daytime. They took 2/3 of their lightbulbs out for some reason. Apparently it's not sunny in Mexico?... I was CRAVING authentic Mexican food, more specifically, pupusas, and we decided to try this place out. My cheese gordita was a corn flour pancake stuffed with cheese. If by "stuffed with cheese" you mean a tiny sprinkle of it, then this is for you. We also ordered El Pastor, which is a pineapple and meat taco trio. The side of rice was so soggy and looked like it had been stewing in water for quite some time. Almost like a chinese congee. My friend asked for some sour cream, and we were not told it would be an extra charge. Just a heads up, a heaping spoonful of sour cream is $2.99. Guacamole? Leaves much to be desired. In all honesty, I've had fresher and better food at Mucho Burrito or Chipotle. They may not be super authentic, but at least they have food quality. read more

Three Amigos (not to be confused with Tres Carnales) is a small Mexican restaurant that has delicious, delicious food. I came here with some fellow yelpers one evening and we all enjoyed our meal. I went with the tamales here and thought they were pretty good and filling. Tamales tend to be a bit high on the carb side but they did a good job putting a reasonable amount of delicious chicken to make the tamale most flavorful. Served with a side of beans and salsa, this makes for one delicious evening meal. The ambiance here is very relaxed. Somebody said it's like a Mexican dive in Los Angeles. I love that comparison. I don't know if the food is 100% Mexican homeland food but that certainly doesn't bother me. They serve up burritos, tacos, quesadillas, tamales, entree-style dishes and a lot of affordable snacky options as well. They have a small list of beers, including Dos Equis. I'm not a huge beer person, so I went with a margarita. Just two varieties - lemon and strawberry and I went with the lemon. Come here expecting a modest restaurant with a few options. I like that the place is also reasonably quiet inside. There isn't too much noise. One big downside for me (and hence the three stars) is that I think they're a little expensive! The entrees are filling but not super filling and cost roughly $15. If you're hear to share some appetizers, get an entree and a drink expect to spend about $25 per person. I don't think it's ridiculously expensive, but just a tad. I'd have been happy to have a meal under $20. read more

The staff was nice and the food was a decent portion for the price. But as previous reviewers mentioned, its not the place to find Tex-Mex style. The tacos use corn tortillas and are filled with meat and pico de gallo instead of cheddar cheese, "taco sauce" and lettuce. But the food was fresh and flavorful without the need for sodium and sugar filled canned sauces. If that's what you are expecting, go to Taco Bell instead. read more

Chris: Aiya... not many good things I have to say. Prepare yourself. The decor is blatantly Mexican. It's like they crammed everything that's classically Mexican onto the walls. The soccer jerseys pinned to the walls are a little tacky. Service was a little too casual. The waitress was nice but she wasn't very attentive to ours needs. But the worst is yet to come... One of the starters is your choice of 2 of the following: chicken wings, chicken fingers, jalapeno poppers and mozzarella sticks. For $8.99 we got a total of SIX pieces, three poppers and three mozza sticks. That's about $1.50 per stick. Merriam-Webster should use this example as part of their definition of "rip-off", because if that's not the epitome of it, please humour me. Once we polished off the sticks, we soon discovered a plastic label in our marinara dip. Whoever prepared the food didn't bother removing the cilantro label and chopped it into the cilantro. One, that probably means the cilantro wasn't taken apart and washed, and two, bits of the label are likely floating elsewhere in other people's dip. When we brought this to the attention of our waitress, she stared at the dip funnily while waltzing away. Didn't apologize, didn't say anything. She brought back another container of dip. Um, why?? We already finished the appetizer, we don't need this cilantro label-infused marinara. The entrees came, and the food was just average. I had the Huevos Rancheros, which contains two fried eggs over some tortilla wraps, topped with salsa. I asked for hot salsa, and it tasted as if it was mild. Taco Bell has hotter salsa. Come on now. The eggs were overcooked, and overall it wasn't very authentic. Along came the bill once we were finished, and I noticed that a lot of the entries were called "XTRA". I don't think that's proper, because they can throw in another line of "XTRA" and you wouldn't know what you'd be paying for. The waitress also decided to go ahead and charge us for that appetizer, despite receiving a piece of plastic label in our dip. Our friend Blaine did us the trouble of telling the waitress that they should have considered taking our appetizer off the bill because of the cilantro label. She did so afterwards and apologized. I don't work in this industry, but my common sense would immediately tell me to comp the appetizer. Needless to say I will not go back. Try it once for curiosity, but once may just be enough. David: When we walked in, our ears were immediately bombarded by a Mariachi singer. In theory, this is a great idea, however, at Three Amigos it was just annoying. As the night went on, he seemed to sing louder and louder and at one point we weren't able to talk amongst ourselves at the table. You'd expect authentic Mexican music as well; this was not the case. Two examples of this were: "Sweet Caroline", and "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye". Another great form of entertainment here was the TV, which, while we were eating, was tuned to some survival show where a man's leg was in a bear trap! The Sangria was mediocre at best. The fruit tasted old, looked dry, and had an unfruit-like stench to it. The one good thing about it, was the $30 pitcher was split seven ways so we didn't end up paying too much for it. read more

Don't get me wrong, the food here is good. I had the shrimp quesadillas and while it's not the best Mexican food I've ever had, it's not the main concern here. The restaurant is very uncomfortable. The chairs are too large for the table and you can't slide in comfortably. There is no room to move your legs and you are right next to the person beside you. The service at this restaurant is also beyond slow. We came in for a 5 pm dinner reservation and after our drinks were ordered, we didn't get to place our food orders until well past 5:45. The chips and salsa weren't brought to the table in a timely manner either to distract our hunger. This restaurant is over priced overall. The food is expensive. My sparkling water was $4.50, but stated $3.50 on the menu. There is also an automatic 18% gratuity which was undeserving in my opinion. I will not be making a second visit to 3 Amigos. read more

I came here for the first time a couple weeks ago and I enjoyed the food. When we came on Monday it was half off of Margaritas and guacamole. The guacamole was very good and it came with a side of warm crunchy tortilla chips. I can't remember the name of the dish I had but it was a mixture of beef and cheese and came with a side of tortillas. I like how I had a generous portion of protein. For dessert we had a fried ice cream. It was a pretty good dining experience at Three Amigos; the food was really good and the customer service was okay. Finally made it to this hidden gem. We arrived early on a Friday night and were quickly transported away. The place feels like a neighbourhood stop in Mexico miles away from the tourist strip, and that is a good thing. The food is not tex-mex - nothing is coated in melted yellow cheese and that is another good thing. We started with tortilla chips and sauce -- not really a salsa as it was just liquid and served in a kitchen thimble which made dipping impossible. It did have good flavour and a nice kick. My enchilada with mole was good. The marinated meat was lovely and the beans were good and the rice unmemorable. My son had the beef tacos and thought they were good, not great. The amount of food for the price seems reasonable. Part way through dinner, a strolling singer/guitarist started playing. He was quite good and it did complete the scene. All in all, a nice find. Might not drive across town for it, but would pick this over a chain place any day. read more

So I've drove by so many times and have wanted to stop in. My wife always said no. Finally... After years of convincing she's game. She had a terrible experience at a Mexican restaurant in the past so she was very hesitant to try. Well we get inside and the girl greets us. She was very pleasant, in the background the owner is there and waves with a smile. Not going to lie I like this already. So we are seated at our table, the place is very different. From the outside you'd never know this place was so awesome inside! It's cozy, warm and interesting as far as the decorating. Again not going to lie I really like this place already. So now we're seated at the table. The girl waiting on us was very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. We did say we've never visited before so she was happy to explain our options and the specials. So now on to the drinks, I had a beer and nothing special but the wife has a raspberry margarita and wow that one is dangerous! So damn good! Just one of those drinks that could be the start of trouble. BRAVO! Then we get fresh chips and salsa to start and man was that salsa good! We get our food and my wife had enchiladas, not her favourite but very flavourful none the less. She had wanted some more fresh salsa. She was happy she ordered it but did say she'll want to come back and try something else. Myself I had the tamales. I've watched Guy Fieri all the time and get so jealous when he eats a tamale. Finally I get my opportunity to try one. Guess what folks, I'll be back for tamales in a heartbeat! I went for the chicken enchiladas, and found myself fairly disappointed. The enchiladas themselves were fairly dry and flavorless, even with the sauce on them. It came with beans and rice - the rice was fairly dry as well, and I found the taste and texture of the beans not to my liking. We enjoy the food and the atmosphere at Three Amigos. Reservations are recommended. Saturday nights they usually have someone playing guitar in the restaurant. This is authentic Mexican cuisine. We love this place and have been going there since about 2010. The food is real Mexican food and is the best place to get it in the city. Hands down! Every time we go there we're so impressed with the additions they have made to their building. They've come a long way and we're so happy to see them succeeding! The ambiance is great. We ate there on September 15th and it was our first visit since the birth of our daughter. I was very disappointed to go to the restroom to change her only to find no change table. Been twice so far, Small, busy, loud place. One of the better Mexican restaurants I've been to in the city. Very colourful and festively decorated inside. Service is slow, I don't think they quite have enough staff on the floor for such a busy spot, but the food is great and the entertainment makes me feel like I was in Mexico again. First time I had the chiliquiles, which were awesome, added a fried egg on top. I also ordered a lime margarita but it lacked flavour. Second time I had the enchiladas, delicious love their house made salsas and sauces. Average pricing, overall good experience both times. read more

Mmmm. Love their Bulldogs and fish tacos. First authentic Mexican restaurant I've been to here in Edmonton. I've tried their chicken enchiladas and haven't been let down either! If you want to try these guys, they always have a Groupon available. read more
