We went to the downtown Three Amigos location on a Friday at 11:45. We were seated immediately, but had to wait for one person to join us at 12:00. In the meantime, we were served drinks. The last member of our party, who I will repeat was there at NOON, didn't receive a drink until our order was taken at 12:45. So from the time our whole party was seated, it took 45 minutes, I repeat, 45 minutes (!) to place an order, despite repeated efforts to flag down a waitress. Both waitresses were so negligent, we thought they were pointedly ignoring our side of the restaurant.
By the time our order was taken, one member at our table was unable to order the ceviche, as they had run out, so she settled for chips&guac. After our order was taken, we waited ANOTHER 45 minutes to get our food, despite 3/5 dishes being things that would have been prepared ahead of time (tamales, chips&guac, and empanadas). To add insult to injury, two members of our table were asked to change their orders 20 minutes after we ordered, because since our order was the last to be taken in the restaurant (despite being the third table seated), they had just run out of food. Then, when the food came out, the chicken empanadas that were ordered came out as beef empanadas!
When we paid our bill, the waitress was using every excuse in the book:
1. Sorry guys, we are really busy (at this point, there was only one other table seated in the restaurant, aside from us).
2. Everyone comes at one time, and we get slammed! (Yes, this is downtown Edmonton on a weekday at lunchtime....)
3. Sorry the wait was so long, but since the food is made to order, it can take a while (My understanding is that this is the way all restaurants work, unless anybody can tell me of a telepathic restaurant where they know what you want to eat before you walk in the door). I simply could not bite my tongue any longer at this lame excuse, and suggested that our order should have been taken quicker than 45 minutes in then.
The food was alright, but most certainly not worth the pain of the wait or the service. I'm willing to say that this restaurant appears to be poorly managed - there was only two servers and one cook for a lunchtime rush. Not a manager or supervisor in sight.
To the owners of this restaurant: I am very disappointed. I used to go to D.S. MacKenzie, and would go to your southside location all the time for lunch. Please manage your staff better in hygeine (hairnets should be worn in the kitchen for long hair!!!), appearance (I do NOT want to see a servers breasts because her strapless jumper is falling off), and accountability. A shameful excuse of a restaurant.
Any diners craving Mexican food downtown, I would highly recommend Tres Carnales - much quicker, tastier, cleaner, and WAY better staff! read more
