I used to go to Dadeo quite a lot and really enjoyed the food and environment there. The rockabilly-diner feel to the place goes nicely with the Cajun-style food, and they've even used parts of an old bowling alley to complete their look. The service, however, was TERRIBLE the last time I went. My husband and I went there to have lunch on my birthday. The server rushed us through our meal to the point where it felt like we should be cramming our food in our mouths and still chewing it while on our way out the door. He even took my food away while I was still eating it. I had a sip of my beer, and he took the plate while he was walking by. He didn't even slow down to take it, he was in such a hurry. And it's not like the place was packed, either. When my husband addressed this with him politely, we were greeted with a very rude response. My husband then asked for the bill, and we watched our server stomp off to talk to the owner at the front. They had a laugh at our expense. He came back, slammed the bill on the table, told us he'd taken two of our beers of the bill and stomped off. Then he and the owner smugly grinned at us as we left. I was shocked because we'd never had this happen before, anywhere! When I go out to eat, I am paying for a product. I am not there to meet a time quota for the serving staff. Boo to the owner and server at Dadeo for being such jerks! Really, if all you care about is your appearances, people are going to see through it and stop coming around. Very Disappointed with experience we had this past weekend... Three of us, not having been to Dadeo in quite some time, decided that this was a perfect place to go for a bite to eat - It was just after 5 pm when we walked into the restaurant. Upon entering a staff person asked if we had a reservation, we did not and were bluntly told by her that we could not eat there. She was quite abrupt about it without any options. That was the end of the interaction, no apology. Two of us are well versed in the F&B world and were quite shocked with the experience. There were a number of tables open as well as almost the entire counter. We do understand holding tables for reservations but there are ways about it to maximize revenues and covers. We could have been offered seats at the counter and / or been given the option of "we can seat you but you would need to be out by a certain time". Something for management and the owners to think about and possible look at as a training opportunity for staff. I know we will definitely think twice before going back read more

I've eaten here many times before and the food us quite good. Unfortunately, the service has really tanked lately. We went in last night (we were meeting our friends, so 2 of us asked for a table of 4). They told us it would be a half hour wait. No problem. To be expected on Friday night. So we go to grab a seat on this small bench near the door, that has just been vacated by another couple. The hostess comes over and asks us if "we want to go on a quick adventure of Whyte Ave, as the seating area gets quite crowded and you can't sit here." We were speechless. If you do have this rule (and maybe it's for a good reason, like it's a fire hazard), you should have a good system in place to handle such an awkward situation: everyone should have to abide by it, you should apologize when people put their name down and inform them right away, and you should have a system where you can contact the party when their table is ready (some places have pagers, will call you, etc) read more

Went here for the first time tonight for a friend's 30th birthday. Atmosphere here was great and our waitress was fantastic, though we had a random one refill our drink orders at one point and they were missing from our bill - a little confusing. Really fun drink selection! My boyfriend is somewhat of a beer connoisseur and was pleased to see an old favourite on the list. I stuck to the blue lemonade concoction they had and it was a little too yummy! We had a large group so we got to sample a LOT of food. The muscles and wings and sweet potato poutine from the appetizer menu were to DIE for, as well as the crab cakes. The fritters were tasty - we got the one of each kind order - but some flavours were better than others. I'd say stick to the cheddar and jalapeño. My boyfriend had the Mac and cheese with blackened chicken and the chicken portion was fairly small, but the dish itself was tasty. I was satisfied by our meals, but not wow'd. The bread pudding was OK, not like my mom's, but I wish they'd had the key lime pie ready. Waitress says they run out a lot and some people come there just for that. Here's a thought - perhaps make more if you know you always run out. Especially for a busy Saturday night. The only awful thing I have to say and I beg them to change is it was sweltering inside. I understand the seasons change quickly and it varies from day to day in Edmonton but the heat made me nauseous and by the end of the meal we couldn't wait to get outside. Other than that it was fun. Two twenty seven year olds walk into a bar on the eve of their fifth anniversary, a bar they went to often when dating. The bartender says to them "can I see some id?" The wife forgot her's at home. Dadeo's servers intimidate us: they are no frills and not very friendly. We wish they would all get fired or go for Service in the Food Industry Training and everyone could just start over. Dadeo's needs to work on their side dishes. They're bland and rarely satisfying. What keeps us coming back is the Po Boys and the Lemonade. We want to enjoy Dadeo's more. We really do. WING NIGHT!!! I just discovered that Sunday nights are Dadeo's wing night. I don't know if Dadeo is just being very generous with the wings (if so, thank you!!!) or if we have all been conditioned to think that 10 little wings = 1 lb, but these were awesome! For $6 you still get 10 wings - 10 big, meaty wings. We tried three kinds: hot, honey garlic, and southern fried. They all come with a sprinkling of chopped green onions, sliced red onions, and a wedge of lemon - loved that! The hot was the standard hot wing. The honey garlic was pretty much also the standard, but with big chunks of real garlic in the syrupy sauce. Although both of these looked kind of saucy, they were still nice and crispy underneath. The southern fried ones were my favourite - crispy with some delicious cajun seasoning. I kind of wish I'd ordered the buttermilk dressing sauce when the waitress offered.. oh well next time. We ordered a side of coleslaw as our healthy veggie - it was creamy and peppery - nice. Pints were also on special for $4 - total plus! [looks like they have a $9 po'boy special on Mondays and Tuesdays as well] Service was fast - they weren't too busy but the waitress was still very attentive. We didn't finish all our wings so we doggie-bagged them - they are great cold! If I lived closer I would definitely come back more often. To all you wing-lovers out there, GO!! read more

Finally got to check this place out on the weekend and it was fun! It was really busy so I got to do some interesting people watching while I ate my fried clam po'boy and drank my freshly squeezed lemonade, yum. I got seated right in front of the door and it SUCKED. The door opened every 2 minutes letting cold air blow in and making me grouchy, and when I asked if we could move to an empty table I was told they were reserved...Well that's OK but its just a table, can't you give my crappy table to someone else when they come since I'm here now? Hmm guess not. The calamari is delicious and so is the green jalapeno jelly, my po'boy was pretty good except it was all deep fried stuff so it gave me a tummy ache after :( The waitress was excellent at refilling drinks and asking about the food, but still had the gall to sneer at her 20% tip on the bill, I'm sorry but I thought the suggested amount was 15%? Some peoples children... The decor was great, the music was great, I loved the one toilet washroom thing they have going on, and I like the bar scene as well buuut I think it may be a bit before I venture back. I'm not quite sure what has happened to this place, but I always remember it as being pretty awesome. The last 3 times I've been, I've had terrible experiences. I'm a pretty easy going, polite person and things don't bother me to much, but WOW what TERRIBLE customer service. My last 3 visits, they have been extremely rude.. Theres maybe one guy there who is somewhat nice, but the rest of them really need to step it up. I don't care how busy you are, or whatever, your in the customer service industry, fake it if you have to. Just this last time, we had placed an order for pickup: Making the phone call- We all knew what we were going to order, but while my friend was telling me what she wanted, the guy on the phone rudely says to me "Why don't you call back when you know what you want" and hung up on me. I was so shocked!! what the heck, we didn't even keep him waiting, maybe 5 seconds. At the restaurant- When we picked up our food, we were told the bill was 60 some $$, Shocked, we looked at the bill, and the order was messed up. We had ordered the fritter appetizer, I was pretty sure I specified which 4 single fritters we wanted, but instead we got 4 orders of fritters, 4 fritters in each order, for a total of 16 FRITTERS!!! I told them that we only wanted 1 order of them. They simply didn't care and just shrugged. The guy said "thats what he heard", and they didn't even offer to fix the order. They were super rude saying there was nothing they could do about it. Instead we had to pay for all the damn fritters. On top of all that, we asked if we could pay the bill separately, the lady was, you guessed it, RUDE saying "If you guys would have told us on the phone to make it separate bills, it would have made my life a whole lot easier" meanwhile rolling her eyes at us!! It took her maybe 1 minute longer. Perhaps we would have done that, if the guy taking our order didn't rush us off the phone =P WOW I have never, ever experienced this rude of service, I think ever! I could see and understand if we had done something to deserve it, but we never once were rude to them. The food: It used to be really good, however last year or 2 its gone waaay downhill and is a huge disappointment. Last 3 experiences the food has been either cold or bland. The sweet potato fries have always been a hit and miss, sometimes they are under cooked. Also they don't serve you as much food as they used to. Because of the terrible customer service I've had this past time, I don't think I will ever go back. I work in the service industry and I see a lot of people. I have the worst luck with Dadeo's in that everytime I'm wandering Whyte and decide I'm cravin' some cajun, it seems to be closed. I'm sure it's just bad timing on my part, but this happened three times in a row. Anyhoo, on saturday my wife and I decided to give it another try - there was no way they would be closed on such a busy night, and luckily they were open. I always get a Po' Boy and I'm slowly making my way through the selection (perhaps they need to give out a Po'Boy-passport...or Po'port...to keep track of which sandwiches you've already sampled). This time it was the fried oyster and I have to say this might be my favorite. I'm not as big of a fan of sweet potato fries as my wife is - she loves 'em so needless to say Dadeo's is one of her favorite spots to hit as their SP fries are the best in the city. I'll stick to their spicy rice as a side. My only complaints are that the sandwiches are a bit small. I like to leave a place full after a meal, and I'm always a little hungry when I leave Dadeo's....ya, I know - Po' me....HA HA!!!! Also, watch out for that sauce with the tiger on the label- it pours VERY fast. read more

Honestly, I do love their creole fish po'boy and their jalapeno jelly but I think their service could be better. They have a $12 po'boy special on mondays and tuesdays so my husband and I decided to go on a monday. We thought we'd share a few things but we were told that if we wanted to share a po'boy, then we wouldn't receive the special price and would have to pay the full price. This really didn't make sense to me because we go to lots of different restaurants and try their specials and this was the first time I was hearing of something like this.. I mean the restaurant is still making only ONE po'boy and it is on special, why would we be penalized for 2 people wanting to eat it, that should be up to us. I used to love Dadeo and went there often, not anymore. I ordered from Uber eats and it was bad... the eggplant on the po'boy was undercooked, so it was hard and half was inedible. I also got the crab cakes- one was okay, but one bite into the second one and I felt a hard crunch... it was crab shell. Of course I am going to give Dadeo 5 stars, because it's a 5 star kind of place. Cozy booths, upbeat and yet not-too-loud music and the yam fries!!! Definitely best in the city because they do them right! Fresh yams, breaded and deep fried, then dusted with cajun seasoning. The crab cake po'boy is always my go-to favorite and I have it almost every time I am there. Hot and fresh, and the bread is on point. They also have wing specials on Sundays so you must try the honey garlic wings. They are huge, and definitely do not disappoint. The cheddar mini biscuits with the jalapeno jelly gets always gets me drooling too. I love this place! read more

For my first review on Yelp, I can't think of a place more fitting than my favourite restaurant in town, Dadeo!! Dadeo is a New Orleans-style diner that is unlike anywhere else in the city. It's my favourite place to go for a relatively cheap but super tasty night out. The best time to go is either Monday or Tuesday when they have their po'boy days! They serve po'boys (New Orleans style sub sandwiches) every day, but they are a couple dollars cheaper. Get the Blackened Catfish po'boy with sweet potato fries, and thank me later. The catfish melts in your mouth. I've tried almost all the po'boys, and many are quite good, but I keep on going back to the catfish. There's a reason why Dadeo always wins awards for their sweet potato fries - an amazing and unexpected spice mix. I always like to wash it down with a freshly squeezed lemonade. Great location smack dab on Whyte ave, but it can be easy to miss if you aren't looking for it - it's between Roots and Lululemon. Things can get quite busy in here, so your best bet is to make a reservation if you're coming at a popular time. Last thing, don't forget your ID! They only allow 18+ in here. I've seen many parties being turned away because not everyone has their ID on them - even if they don't plan on drinking. Enjoy!! read more

I really like the Eggplant Parmesan Po'boy here, with sweet potato fires on the side, good with either a freshly squeezed lemonade or an Alley Kat chili beer. This place rocks true southern food at it's best .The Fried Chicken is the best ever and the fritters are to die for. But if you really want to indulge Diabetics beware This one is real sweet I strongly The Banana's Foster which is cooked table side. It is pure decadence. The .Service is great prices are good The decor and ambiance is great . Only draw back is the parking very limited in this part of town. Very slow service and the owner/manager seemed not to concerned with are problem, that was the last visit and we said we won't be back due to the very poor customer service from the owner. Now lets talk about this visit. The place was very quit and we sat down and ordered right away. Oysters they were not to bad very small not worth the $14. We both had po boys Philly steak and cheese was good but to much pepper. The other one was a crab cake po boy it too was good but was a bit dry and we ask for a bit more mayo, we were charged for it.
