Recently went here and had to come back shortly afterwards because I had to bring my family. We have missed the food from Hawaii and this completely hit the spot. Their Katsu was crunchy and delicious. The alpha steak was tender and flavorful. The pork adobo was soft and just like they make on the island. I found my place when I'm missing Hawaii to go eat at. The gentleman working the counter was sweet and patient while we decided what we wanted. We waited for maybe 15 minutes for our food to be ready and it was so much better than I expected. Since i introduced him to chicken katsu and loco moco which he loves I figured I introduce him to others and this was the place to do so. Let me tell you it was way better than the aloha BBQ on the west side hands down!!!. Regular plates are average $12.95 and for the meat plates it was a little pricey at $22.00 but the kalbi was so tender and had an awesome grill taste. OMG! Who closes there kitchen early!! So we just happen to be in the area from Canutillo due to my son having a football game. We tried calling several times to place a pick up order since 7:00pm. No one ever answered and when they finally picked up they stated that they do not take orders. Ok, so we headed over as fast as we could on to get there at 7:45pm. 1st they asked if we placed an order to go for pick-up? What? They do allow it? 2nd they stated "sorry the kitchen was closed early". Well what?? It's 7:45pm, 15 minutes before closing. She said, "don't worry we will be open tomorrow". Excuse me... we drove from the westside. Food is good but there service sucks!!! Wow I guess they are doing well enough to turn customers away. This place is very good, except that's it's never open! They were closed the majority of July, I came back on the supposed reopen date and they extended it. They close on Mondays but also are closed on Tuesdays now. Their hours are short as well on the days they are open, especially Sunday. read more

Pretty good but lacks some flavor in my opinion. Rice was perfect and macaroni salad was pretty good, but it tastes more like potato salad. We got the garlic chicken and because of another review I expected our chicken to be garnished with garlic and green onions but it wasn't! I'd heard from someone who is married to a Hawaiian woman that this restaurant was the real deal. We stopped in on a Sunday evening and met the owner. He was SO nice. We tried the spam musubi, moco loco, and chicken katsu - it was all DELICIOUS!!! He said his dad was a chef in Hawaii and that he moved to El Paso after finishing his service in the military and opened up this restaurant. Go now and fill your belly with a taste of the islands. I'm really trying to love this place but so far it's been an effort! I've read every review and for the life of me I'm just not getting it. I've been twice and both times I came away feeling disappointed. My impression of the location is great! Clean facility and very friendly staff. Easy to find with abundant parking. The customers seemed to be regulars and very nice people. Always a good sign. I ordered pulehu ribs, spam musubi and a sweet rice dessert that reminded me of mochi. The ribs were incredibly chewy! I didn't get beyond the first bite. Musubi is always a treat for me so no surprise there. I wasn't a fan of the macaroni salad. The pasta was either overcooked or over saturated with dressing because the salad was soggy. My redemption visit wasn't as disappointing but still a letdown. I ordered the chicken katsu, loco moco and pulehu ribs....again. The katsu was crisp, tender and juicy but it tasted like it was fried in old grease. The rice was not fully cooked and had a bit of a bite. So much so that you could see the white spot in the middle of the grain. The macaroni salad is still not hitting the mark for me. Loco moco was moist and delicious and the gravy was good but so little was drizzled over it and the crunchy rice just ruined it, not to mention the overcooked egg. This time the ribs stole the show!! They were perfectly seasoned and grilled! I asked for medium and that's exactly what I got. Again the sides were so disappointing that I tossed them. I'm not ready to throw in the towel just yet. Maybe the chef was off his game or whoever does the prep work was having a bad day...in any case they get one more strike.
