My wife and I went for lunch, yesterday. She had the "Katsu Chicken" and I had the Kalua Pig". Both were cooked to perfection! The Kalua Pig was moist and juicy and full of flavor! The "Katsu Chicken" had just the right crunch and spice, and that "Katsu" sauce is one that could make cardboard a delicious meal! It is EXCELLENT, as was the friendly and professional service from the charming girl at the counter (I forgot to ask her name) and the restaurant is always welcoming, cozy, and clean! My wife and I are visiting EP for the weekend. We decided to check out this restaurant for the first time. We love Hawaiian food and love that there's a spot in East EP for us to enjoy it. We came in on a Wednesday afternoon for lunch, around 2 PM. It wasn't very busy at this time. It's small with tables mostly for 4 people, maybe a 5th if you squeeze in. It also has a "bar-style" seating option--a longer table attached to the wall with seats set in a row on one side of it. Be mindful if you're coming with a large party. Portions are HUGE so my wife and I decided to order and split a "Chicken Katsu Plate." The plate comes with katsu sauce for dipping your chicken, 2 scoops of white steamed rice and macaroni salad. The macaroni salad was deliciously creamy and I think it had chucks of potatoes in it or something--didn't expect it and it was SO good. The white rice was well cooked and soft. And the chicken was well-breaded with just the right amount of crispiness. Dipping it into the provided katsu sauce elevated the flavor. A plate like this is perfect for two people, maybe even 3 with an additional scoop of macaroni or rice. The woman behind the counter was super friendly and offered an extra plate for my wife and I without us even asking. We'll definitely be back to order more off of the menu. No. I ordered the curry chicken Katsu and it was so yummy!!! The ONLY reason WHY it isn't a 5 star is because I don't think it's safe to add hot food to go in a styrofoam container. I'm also very big on safety of the foods: Hot food (like soup, takeout, etc.): Safe for short periods, but if the food is very hot or oily, it can soften the container and leach chemicals. Heard good things about this place and finally had the time to stop by. I went in and ordered the regular chicken katsu spicy plate to go. Waited about 10 minutes and it was ready. Got home to enjoy my meal and boy was I surprised. The spiciness is an understatement, it was hot spicy but not overbearing that I couldn't enjoy it. Just haven't had the best experiences. But, in this case, I was very wrong. The place is small, long, and very smoky because I think their AC wasn't working. As soon as I see the menu I am excited. Loco Moco is first on their list. Oh how I missed them since my visit to Hawaii years ago. Then they have these shelves to recycle your glass coke bottles. That's when I knew I liked this place. The rice is drier, but it's to soak up sauces like the Loco Moco or the katsu/teriyaki sauces. The potato/Mac salad is creamy and I would've liked more of a vinegar kick but you can just add some hot sauce to spice it up. The chicken Katsu was outstanding, crispy, crunchy, and moist inside. Accompanied with the thick katsu sauce it was heaven and my daughter declared "Hawaii makes the best chicken". Um...true but this is in El Paso, baby! Service was super friendly, in true Island style, and the prices are beyond fair for the incredibly generous portions. I must have gone on a bad day, last Saturday afternoon. The young girl at the counter who took our order seemed like she was new, or just didn't realize that when someone orders food to eat at the restaurant, you should give the patrons some plates and eating utensils. I ordered two spam masubis, garlic chicken, and teriyaki chicken. The food was dry and gross, so we ended up throwing all of the food away. I was thinking to give it to a homeless person, but decided it wasn't worth anyone's time and possibly a stomach bug. They don't come close to L&L BBQ or the original Aloha BBQ place. I went for the Kahlua Pork just like I'd had in every other state however here they do not serve cabbage or any other vegetable with their shredded pork also it was very salty... Their chicken katsu is okay but over cooked so very dried out ....their macaroni salad was super questionable you didn't know if you're going to get a bite of potato salad or macaroni salad because it was all mixed together.
