I'm a local Hawaii girl that gets homesick way too often, especially for comfort foods I miss from the islands. Da Real Aloha BBQ is the only reason I lasted this long in El Paso & haven't spent an arm & a leg on flight tickets for back home yet to stuff my face Everything they make tastes just like home. My top 3 favorites are the Hamburger Steak, Kalua Pig & Chicken Katsu plates. The portions are HUGE and can easily be two meals on some days. Everything is fresh & their Mac salad hits every single time. I hate when a Mac salad has too much mayo, but Aloha BBQ makes it perfectly. Add a Hawaiian Sun drink & you'll get a Kanak attack in no time. Whether I pick it up in person or order on DoorDash, the quality and service never changes. I ordered the Korean BBQ chicken and hoped it would be something to remind me of Korea. It wasn't. I wouldn't try it and recommend calling they call it something else. The food was just okay, barely. The price seemed a bit too much for what boils down to plain white rice and bland macaroni salad. What was very disappointing was the cleanliness of the place. The floors were visibly dirty and sticky. The table we waited for our order at was sticky as well, and the benches were stained and dirty. Take a look at the air vent at the back right of the ceiling, it is filthy. The fly buzzing around the restaurant was more attentive than the service. We want to support local businesses, but we will not ever return to this place. read more

My wife and I are visiting EP for the weekend. We decided to check out this restaurant for the first time. We love Hawaiian food and love that there's a spot in East EP for us to enjoy it. We came in on a Wednesday afternoon for lunch, around 2 PM. It wasn't very busy at this time. It's small with tables mostly for 4 people, maybe a 5th if you squeeze in. It also has a "bar-style" seating option--a longer table attached to the wall with seats set in a row on one side of it. Be mindful if you're coming with a large party. Portions are HUGE so my wife and I decided to order and split a "Chicken Katsu Plate." The plate comes with katsu sauce for dipping your chicken, 2 scoops of white steamed rice and macaroni salad. The macaroni salad was deliciously creamy and I think it had chucks of potatoes in it or something--didn't expect it and it was SO good. The white rice was well cooked and soft. And the chicken was well-breaded with just the right amount of crispiness. Dipping it into the provided katsu sauce elevated the flavor. A plate like this is perfect for two people, maybe even 3 with an additional scoop of macaroni or rice. The woman behind the counter was super friendly and offered an extra plate for my wife and I without us even asking. We'll definitely be back to order more off of the menu. I love Hawaii and Hawaiian food so when I saw this place while passing by..I knew I had to stop. Glad I finally did! I got a two meat plate...only complaint, the char on some of the ribs was too much. Otherwise it was great! My wife and I went for lunch, yesterday. She had the "Katsu Chicken" and I had the Kalua Pig". Both were cooked to perfection! The Kalua Pig was moist and juicy and full of flavor! The "Katsu Chicken" had just the right crunch and spice, and that "Katsu" sauce is one that could make cardboard a delicious meal! It is EXCELLENT, as was the friendly and professional service from the charming girl at the counter (I forgot to ask her name) and the restaurant is always welcoming, cozy, and clean! I'm so glad they are here! Can't wait to go back and try the "Lau Lau" (pork belly), one of their best sellers, next to the "Katsu Chicken"! Great job guys! Hi my names Kai and I go around tasting and observing many restaurants of their foods, customer services, and cleanliness. Food was good! Was it the best? No. I ordered the curry chicken Katsu and it was so yummy!!! The ONLY reason WHY it isn't a 5 star is because I don't think it's safe to add hot food to go in a styrofoam container. I'm also very big on safety of the foods: Hot food (like soup, takeout, etc.): Safe for short periods, but if the food is very hot or oily, it can soften the container and leach chemicals. It's a shame because I really liked the food but ordering to go I would not recommend to anyone. Would definitely come again but not too often. Thank you! read more

I want to come back to give it a 5 stars after I try their spicy katsu or the beef because I know these folks will knock it out of the park! We've been to Hawaii before and our expectations for Hawaiian cuisine in other places outside of Hawaii are pretty high! Who would've thought, Da Real Aloha would be Da Real Deal in El Paso, TX. From the friendliness and kindness of their staff - thank you for giving us an extra plate for me and my husband to use while we shared our meal , to the portions and deliciousness of the macaroni salad. So so good! I give this place a 4 because I wanted more from the chicken katsu. Don't get me wrong, it was beautifully cooked and a flavorful bite with the sweet sauce that the dish came with, but I was still hoping for something more. My favorite part was the macaroni salad, it was so creamy, fresh and light! We should've gotten an extra side of macaroni salad for us to enjoy, will do so next time! It's definitely good. It was super salty and lacked the smoke flavor I'm used to from this dish. Nonetheless, it was very tasty and VERY filling. I couldn't finish the pork. So I suggest getting one plate for two people and asking for extra sides. Very friendly and the place has plenty of seating space. Very comfortable. 7.4/10. Heard good things about this place and finally had the time to stop by. I went in and ordered the regular chicken katsu spicy plate to go. Waited about 10 minutes and it was ready. Got home to enjoy my meal and boy was I surprised. The spiciness is an understatement, it was hot spicy but not overbearing that I couldn't enjoy it. The flavor was delicious and I enjoyed every bite. I ordered too much but I had leftovers for the next day. I'm glad this place is in my neighborhood, I'll be back again. read more

Holy cow, talk about surprises. I decided to stop by to grab a quick bite and am so glad I did. Keep in mind that I am somewhat biased against eateries in suires of large commercial complexes. Just haven't had the best experiences. But, in this case, I was very wrong. The place is small, long, and very smoky because I think their AC wasn't working. As soon as I see the menu I am excited. Loco Moco is first on their list. Oh how I missed them since my visit to Hawaii years ago. Then they have these shelves to recycle your glass coke bottles. That's when I knew I liked this place. So I decided on Korean Chicken for my son and if I hadn't picked up lunch for me I would have grabbed the Moco Loco. My son, who is, shall we say, very selective, loved it! I hate that this place exists....on the Eastside. Seriously I'm sitting here silently seething and also thankful that it's not close to me because I swear I WOULD BE HERE EVERYDAY. This is Da Real Aloha BBQ, and it's the real deal. If it wasn't gloomy as all heck outside, I could be fooled into thinking I'm back on the islands with the music, smells, and funky furniture. The food is incredibly flavorful, the gravy on the Loco Moco, I can probably put it on cardboard and it'll still be bomb. The rice is drier, but it's to soak up sauces like the Loco Moco or the katsu/teriyaki sauces. The potato/Mac salad is creamy and I would've liked more of a vinegar kick but you can just add some hot sauce to spice it up. The chicken Katsu was outstanding, crispy, crunchy, and moist inside. Accompanied with the thick katsu sauce it was heaven and my daughter declared "Hawaii makes the best chicken". Um...true but this is in El Paso, baby! Service was super friendly, in true Island style, and the prices are beyond fair for the incredibly generous portions. The pictures are of mini sizes, especially with the protein, they give you a lot for the money. It's all "ono" (delicious). I had the loco moco and a spam musubi. The loco moco was really good but I f'd around and got the regular size and found out that it's like 5lbs of food! The spam musubi was extremely good. If I just had the musubi that would have been the worth the trip. I'm from CA and there's a bunch of Hawaiian bbq spots there, so to find that there's like only one in the EP area and that it's really good is pretty awesome. read more

Jake was on point with his service & recommended the daily specials - which included the "meat"ball sub sandwich with salad. I also opted in for the Mac & Cheese appetizer because it sounded great. Ordered a manzanita drink (drink selection is a little different than many other restaurants). The Mac & Cheese appetizer was delicious! Actually, my favorite part of the meal! The sub sandwich came with a simple green salad that was a nice combo. The sandwich bread was soft & warm and included meatballs covered in sauce & melted cheese. Not bad at all but due to my own personal preference the meatballs weren't my personal favorite. In the future, I think I'll lean toward options that don't feature "meat" because of my preference but for those who look for or prefer vegan options, go visit Jake & check out this new downtown El Paso eatery!

I was born and raised in Hawaii and moved to El Paso a month ago. They have authentic local Hawaiian style plate lunches served in styrofoam take out plates, just like back home. The chicken katsu is crispy and juicy, the katsu sauce is spot on, the rice is cooked to perfection and don't get me started on the potato Mac salad. I could eat that everyday! The Aloha steak is soooo tender and the flavor is amazing! The Kalua pig is juicy and delicious! I honestly dream about the food here. I can't wait to go back to try more of the menu. If you're from Hawaii and you're craving local food, this is the place to be! Even if you're not from Hawaii or never tried Hawaii cuisine, you must give this place a try! Da Real Aloha BBQ is truly a hidden gem in El Paso, offering some of the best Hawaiian-style BBQ in the area. Portions here are generous--big enough to satisfy even the heartiest appetite, though I rarely manage to finish it all in one sitting.
