We have been going to this restaurant for about three and a half years, and never had a problem with our food or service. I guess it depends on what kind of attitude you bring into a place. We choose to have a GREAT time wherever we dine. We really love this place. This is by far the best place to eat in Rexburg. The Tempura vegetable is what we normally order for an appetizer. There's a lot of it, and can be shared by several people. The vegetables are cooked in a light crispy batter, and the dipping sauce is the traditional tempura sauce, which is a liquid sauce, but definitely not a "watery" tasting sauce, as another reviewer described it. It is packed full of flavor. They also have a line of other sauces if you want to experiment different flavors to dip your vegetables in. The Volcano roll is my personal favorite. The sauce is simmered in an aioli sauce, it is not a spicy dish, however, you can order a side of hot/spicy sauce with your server as it describes in the menu. Wasabi and ginger is an option, and you can always ask for more with your server. Another roll that is also a favorite of ours is the Molokai roll. This is a tempura roll with a spicy crab mixture topped on each slice. From the kitchen, we love to order the Mahi mahi entrée plate which has a light crispy exterior, and a tender moist fillet inside. There are so many choices on the menu, and we have yet to try other items, but always end up ordering our favorites! We share the dessert, and like to finish our meal with the Huckleberry white chocolate cheesecake. Very good! :0) The staff is friendly, and informative with us especially on a busy night. Best sushi anywhere remotely close. I am a fat guy, I love good food, and I love this place. First the help is friendly and kind, but if you go during busy hours the service will be slower, but worth the wait. Their sushi really is the best around, and is the bar at which I grade all other sushi. They have a variety of rolls, my personal favorites are the Huleia(Spicy Salmon, Tuna, avocado, cream cheese), and Volcano(Seared Tuna, and other stuff I can not remember), though if you go and are feeling adventurous you can order the STACKER!!!! It has crab, salmon, shrimp, tuna, and fish roe, with a mango chutney on a tempuraed seaweed rice triangle. It really is pure bliss. The first time I tried it, we were there for my Birthday and we had a large group and had ordered lots of different sushi, and it was taking a while for our food to be prepared, Elena made one up and brought it out to our table for FREE because it was taking so long. It has since been a must order for me and everyone who has tried this amazing dish. It is an original creation of Elena, who also has her own roll (that they actually serve and have named at other sushi places in the area after her). Seriously if you enjoy sushi check this place out. They have other Hawaiian dishes, teriyaki this and that, I have had a few dishes, they were good, and for my friends that I cannot convince to try some sushi, they seem to enjoy the meal. I had a friend who commented that this restaurant was "stellar". So we had to find out for ourselves. The food is most excellent, especially the sushi. The ahi tuna was very fresh and tasty. (We were a little worried about it at first because of where they're located.) We asked the server about the seafood, and found out the fish is flown in directly from Hawaii. No wonder it tasted so amazing. That's about as good as it gets. Staff was very friendly, and service was great. We had tuna sashimi, and a seared tuna version that was topped on a tempura style roll, (forgot the name, started with a "P") that was addicting! My friend had a combo plate from the kitchen, that included mahi mahi, and kalua pork, that was outstanding. We then shared a Volcano cake which was absolutely decadent. (This is better shared, you'll know what we mean, its a pretty good size with a side of icecream.) We just found our favorite place in town, and will definitely be back to celebrate with more friends/fam. read more

I visited this restaurant in a party of two and was extremely disappointed with the service and overall experience. Despite the dining room being less than half full, we waited over an hour for our food. To make matters worse, a party of three who arrived after us, was seated next to us, received their food at least 15 minutes before we did. Except that party of three turned into a party of ten. The maths don't add up. The service was inattentive and poorly managed, which is unacceptable given the low volume of customers. When our food finally arrived, it was underwhelming--bland and lacking any distinguishing flavors. With so many other dining options in the area, I can't see any reason to return or recommend this place to others. Consistency and quality in both service and food are key to retaining customers, and this establishment failed on both fronts. Yucky. read more

We have been here twice in a 3-week period. The food is exceptional, made on the spot (so it may take a little longer, but well worth it). I see no reason to eat anywhere else when we're in the area. First visit we had the Bento Plate, a combination of Calif roll, teriyaki chicken, tempura...yum. Last night we got the Honolulu Sushi Sampler, which included a cooked sushi roll along with raw. Again...yum. It was hard to not eat it all & make ourselves uncomfortably full. The restaurant is very clean, and our waitress was great. We arrived 10 minutes before the dinner opening time, but they had us come in & brought our drinks anyway, while we decided what we wanted. Superb service. Don't miss this place! The only downside -- and it's not a deal-breaker for me -- is that they do not serve beer/wine. read more

GREAT sushi, the fish is very fresh. The tuna we asked about is actually flown in from Hawaii. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of seafood, particularly for this area. Love the rainbow roll with it's assortment of fishes. I like more of the traditional rolls they have there. My friend is crazy about their tempura rolls, with their signature sauces. They are all good. Prices are very reasonable for the amount of food you get. The rolls are pretty sizeable, and actually fills me up. The desserts look tempting, but I'm pretty full at the end of my meal. There's a large range of folks that come into this place, weekends are packed with college students, families, and parties. This place is one of a kind!! The whole thing is an experience from the food, to the decor, to the music. It is by far my favorite resturant. My favorite thing to get here is the Paloke Sushi roll. It is amazing! The nice thing about Da Pineapple Grill is that they have something for EVERYONE!!! They have sushi, burgers, hawaiian food, salads. There is something for everyone at Da Pineapple Grill!! Some of my other favorite things to get is Oivins Plate, Teriyaki Chicken, The Loco Moco, Musubis, curry, and Eleena's Special sushi roll.. Went there recently, and had a great time at Da Pineapple Grill. Not a huge sushi fan yet...however, the Big tiki burger was pretty damn tasty. Amazed at how good this burger was compared to other places that specialize in burgers. Like the way the menu is pretty diverse for people like me who are not yet into the sushi scene. They have a wide variety of burgers, sandwiches, and grilled meats. Will be trying the pulled pork sandwich with fries next time I go in. Was greeted with a smile at the door. That's a plus for me. Maybe when I get a little braver, I'll try some sushi. Saw they offered some "cooked" ones. I noticed those who were eating sushi were inhaling it. I try to stop here whenever I am in town. The sushi is great and there are excellent variety in their selection. You can find the traditional rolls but there are also finely crafted and unique rolls that are just delicious. Also, if you are a burger lover, I would highly recommend you try their teriyaki burger. It is large and juicy and is one of my favorites. This is a family owned restaurant and has been around for many years. The service has always been excellent for us as well, even when they are short staffed. Like in other college towns, there is a lot of reliance on students which creates a high turn over rate for employment. "Da Pineapple Grill" was an exquisite authentic Hawaiian experience far away from the home of the islands. The restaurant not only provided a phenomenal tropical atmosphere, friendly aloha service with sense of "ohana", timely manner of food prep and prices, and most importantly an amazing selection of traditional Hawaiian delicacies! I truly thought it impossible that "the best" of the islands could reach as far as Rexburg Idaho, yet was ecstatic at the true authenticity and deliciousness of "Da Hawaiian Grill". I've eaten sushi at a lot of places but none have been better than Da Pineapple Grill. Restaurants come and go in this small college town but this place has been around a while now and for good reason! In fact, it's one of the few places we go regularly. It has a warm atmosphere with the aloha spirit. Most of all, the food is amazing. You can tell they only use high quality ingredients. At a lot of other places sushi rolls sort of fall apart or just seem a little off. Never had that problem here. Some of the negative reviews focus on speed. It does take a little longer, but its worth the wait and nice to relax. I'd be suspicious of a super fast sushi place. Highly recommended. read more

Having lived in Hawaii for two years and comparing Da Pineapple Grill to resaurants there and similar restaurants in Southeast Idaho Da Pineapple Grill wins hands down. I have been enjoying the food ever sinced they opened. Fresh cooked food takes time to prepare and I enjoy talking to my friends and enjoying the hand painted murals. I am more than willing to drive to Rexburg for a great meal. Having tried every place that makes sushi from West Yellowstone and Driggs to Blackfoot (that I know of except for one establishment), only Da Pineapple Grill, and two others compare equally to sushi I have eaten in Hawaii and in homes of my Japanese friends. read more

This place is Absolutely AMAZING! The music in the background is so good as well. Our waitress was so great! I believe her name was Bria, and she made sure that we were taken care of at all times. It got really busy and we were waiting for our food, she still check on us often and explained to us that it might be a little longer than usual. That right there is true service!! These sort of restaurants aren't to common in a small college town such as Rexburg. Ahhh yes, you guessed correctly a restaurant with food that is enjoyable and you feel as if you got your moneys worth. College towns restaurants are always a hit and miss but I was surprised with Da Pineapple Grill and their quality of food. It's a great restaurant to come with a group of friends. Someone wants sushi? They have it! Maybe you want a burger? Ahh yes they have that as well! No fuss over selecting a place with a good selection of food. The Pineapple Grill is great! Most of the time when I eat sushi, it's mediocre sushi from the grocery store... If you want REAL sushi, Da Pineapple Grill is the place to go! I've always eaten their sushi and every time I do, I'm super satisfied and impressed with the quality of sushi they offer. Not to mention they have about 20 different types of sushi to pick from! So you have a variety, which is so helpful. Also, I love the Pineapple Chicken. Probably my favorite entree as of right now. Oh and the Pau Hana sushi roll is SO good... I was very impressed with the overall service at this establishment. Our waitress was professional and performed her job exceptionally. The food was more than delicious! Our mouths were watering like Niagara falls at the many options they had to offer. The sushi chef was also very beautiful which added to the lovely atmosphere of the restaurant. This was one of my favorite restaurants to go to during the time I was a college student at BYU-I. I may not be well versed in what makes good sushi but I'm surprised at the reviews below as I didn't think the food was that bad at all. When my wife and I came down to Rexburg, I insisted we go to Da Pineapple Grill and my wife loved it as well! Make sure to get the Pau Hana or Idaho Moo sushi. Those are my favorites! My family and I love this restaurant!!! I especially love the Molokai sushi roll. The guava sauce adds just the right flavor. We also order the Loco Moco ,which tastes just like home!!! This place is great! Authentic good with people the know how it's supposed to be! The music they play set the vibe to just enjoy your time there. Staff is great an fun for the most part. But people are entitled to have bad days. I'll be going to this place everytime I get the chance! I like the sushi selection, get it raw,cooked or fried!
