Sushi Time has become one of our go-to sushi restaurant in Idaho Falls. The all-you-can-eat (AYCE) option is nice if your Love Sushi. A few tips: -They're closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and they also close between 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., so plan your visit accordingly. I've made the mistake of showing up during those times. -Lunch AYCE is about $9 less than dinner, but the lunch menu has fewer items. If there's something you really want that's only available on the dinner menu, you can pay the dinner price during lunch to get access to those additional items. -If you're deciding between AYCE and ordering à la carte, I'd say the break-even point is around two to three specialty rolls. If you plan on trying appetizers, nigiri, hand rolls, or several different rolls, AYCE is definitely the better value. -If you go with AYCE, don't skip the Crab Rangoons or the Potstickers--they're both excellent. -If you've never had nigiri, give it a try. The eel nigiri is a great place to start because it's cooked and has a slightly sweet flavor, making it less intimidating if you're new to sushi. -For specialty rolls, my favorite is the Don't Ask. It's a cooked roll with a little kick from the sriracha, but if you don't like spicy food, they'll make it without the sriracha. If you're looking for something lighter and more refreshing, try the Shannon roll. My daughter's favorite is the Crunch roll. -Be sure to try a hand roll at least once. My family calls them "sushi ice cream cones." They're about half the size of a regular roll and are meant to be eaten with your hands, so they're perfect if you're still learning to use chopsticks. My neighbor recommended Sushi Time. It was such an enjoyable experience. The inside is really nicely decorated and creates a charming atmosphere. They have a diverse menu of sushi and other things. For Idaho Falls, this is the most legit sushi place in town. Their rolls are good and fresh. The menu is extensive - lots of yummy rolls to choose from - something for everyone! The ambiance of the restaurant is decent, it's clean, and I've always had good service. They have an "All you can eat" option too which is a pretty sweet deal if you're a hungry hippo. Always great food and service. I enjoy that atmosphere it's always busy. The only thing I was turned off by was the water. It had a funny taste to it that I didn't care for it all but the food was great. The owner stopped by our table checked in with us. He is a very genuine costumer concerned man. The sushi was mediocre. They make the nigiri sushi really small for all you can eat, which in my mind makes no sense. You're either going to eat 10 small pieces or 5 normal ones. The mussels were still attached to shells and very hard to eat, I've never experienced this at any sushi restaurant. Our waitress was new and didn't know a thing about sushi. The owner was on hand and stated that he just fired the whole staff and just had hired all new. I mean, it was fine. Considering that I'm smack dab in the pacific northwest, it'll pass. Is Sushi Time my favorite place for AYCE sushi? Well, no. But in their defense, I was born and raised in Hawai'i and sushi just doesn't get better than fishing it out of the ocean. The quality of the fish was okay. Actually, maybe a little better than I expected for living somewhere thousands of miles away from the nearest ocean. I am usually the type of person to never order rolls at a sushi restaurant but this time around, I kind of wish I did. The nigiri had very thinly sliced pieces of fish and an overwhelming amount of rice. In fact, I ended up pushing my rice to the side after a few pieces and adding it to my miso soup at the end. It was the only thing I could think of doing so I wasn't wasteful. The fried gyoza was okay as well. Nothing special. You may be wondering - how were the baked mussels? And to that I say, "Meh!" The sauce was severely lacking in flavor. The salmon skin hand roll was hands-down my favorite part of the meal. I definitely recommend it. Crispy pieces of salmon skin matched with unagi sauce and seasoned cucumbers...yes, please! It also had a lot less rice than the nigiri pieces. A major move in 2021 to Idaho Falls gives me the ability to explore new businesses. It is exciting for me to be able to review these offerings on Yelp. This was such an interesting dining experience. If you love Sushi Rice...this is the place for you. Their all you can eat sushi is plentiful on rice. So much so that the fish is overwhelmed by the rice. Pros: the gyoza was delicious and the food is well priced. Cons: As soon as I walked in, I was greeted rudely for unknowingly using the exit door. Our server was so kind, but smelled really strongly of cigarette, which is unappealing while eating. I went for lunch. Matt and Lathe (? Msp) were great and very helpful on choosing which rolls to order. The ayce includes the appetizers! Miso soup, tempura veggies, crab angles, unbelievable. The rolls were great. I am particularly fond of deep fried rolls. They use a panko crust, I prefer a tempura crust because it's less bready. However, the deep fried roll I had was great and very cool presentation, it was stacked with crab meat on top, see picture. Because of the soup and veggies, I could only eat three rolls but they were encouraging me to get another roll. I really appreciated I was not begging or waiting for another roll. Either way three rolls, soup, and tempura veggies is a great deal. I got a soda and it was in huge glass. I never had to get it refilled. This place really was the worst tonight. We ordered some Jalapeno poppers and when they came out the three of us all ate one. They didn't taste good at all the right after we ate them our mouths were on fire for about 20 mins. We have had them before and they are not normally like this. When we notified our waiter (who was absent the whole time and when he did come over none of us could hear him after we asked him to repeat himself multiple times) he said he couldn't take the off the check then he got the manager for us who was very rude and standoffish. She said that because we had all eaten one that she could take it off the bill, even though we all ate one but then sent it back. The jalapeños were literally black inside and tasted bad we showed her this and she said the most she could take off was 2$. This does not seem fair since they were horrible and we didn't even finish them. The rolls all came out at different times and the 3rd roll didn't come out until the other two were already gone. The waiter was not good and manager was rude and the food was not great at all. I wish I would've just gotten sushi from Broulim's. Definitely don't recommend. I went here with my friends and had such an awful experience. The entire staff was so quiet and rude and the music was very loud. My roll came out after everyone else had already finished their food and the server didn't even notice. The sushi was extremely mediocre.The jalapeño poppers were so spicy we were in tears. They said that's how they are but I have had them before and that is definitely not how they have ever been in the past years I've had them.The staff said they couldn't take them off when we didn't even finish them. When we asked why they got a manager and explained that we ate most of them. Mind you there are three of us and four pieces. We pointed out the black found in the middle of the jalapeño and they said they would try. First of all, I've been a waitress & one thing I would NEVER do! Is charge a customer for my mistake! Not only did she charge me 1/2 price for trying the food before realizing she gave me the wrong rolls, then she charged me full price for the nasty ones she brought out next. You could tell someone was upset after getting their food sent back & way over fried the next ones. I took one small bite just to see if I was overreacting & it was bad! I couldn't get anyone else to at the table to eat it or take it home for someone else & got stuck paying for something no one would eat. Very disappointing. read more

IDAHO FALLS DINING VARIETY CHALLENGE: Having recently moved here from Boise, we realize the variety of dining opportunities could be smaller. We hope to show there are many 4-5 star restaurants of various cuisines to be enjoyed as we experience them ourselves. SUSHI - still looking for a go-to sushi/sashimi place, we thought we'd try an AYCE establishment. It was next to ICCU (Idaho Central Credit Union) where we were getting a loan for our new house, so it seemed a natural and we were quite hopeful, despite the "all you can eat" designation, which normally, in our opinion, ends up as a negative. It wasn't very crowded that early afternoon, and they were close to closing time for lunch. Checking the prices, the AYCE prices were extremely tempting compared to the ala carte pricing. There were a few items not available for AYCE that, if desired, had to be purchased separately. So, hey, go for it. We both got AYCE and a beer. We ordered our favorites available on AYCE. Given very few patrons, the items showed up quickly. Food review: the fish/seafood topping for the nigiri or rolls was quite fresh, and we were impressed by the quality. But they'd delivered a truckload of rice to accompany the freshness. AYCE is about giving the customer a lot of food, at a cheap price, but we were not surprised (had encountered this quite often) that extra rice was given to fill you up, and that the "rules" say you have to eat the rice vs. discarding it to get the AYCE price. But, this was extra extra rice. Wow. Definitely overwhelmed the seafood (in both nigiri and rolls - the rolls were bulging with rice). Still, the seafood was fresh, so we enjoyed it as best we could, then ate the extra rice to continue. We were told they were closing, so - last call. We hadn't yet eaten our fill, even with the rice, so we were in a quandary. How much rice could we eat? Or more clearly - how much more sushi to get. They did tell us we didn't have to "clear out" at closing, just the sushi bar was closing. We appreciated that. So, we ordered just a bit too much, and I also ordered an ala carte roll that was not on AYCE, because it was my favorite. The last items were delivered. To my chagrin, the speciality roll also had way too much rice with it, and too little speciality (as was true with the other items). I wanted to say something like, "Hey, I'm payin' for this one here, y'know?" Still it was all good, and we were overfull. The server said it was ok that we left too much rice, and kindly blamed it on the ala carte roll. Still, we could see at other times, this could become an issue. We were 30 minutes past closing, and most everyone was taking a break by then, so we did appreciate the time and consideration to allow us to finish at our pace. Final conclusion - nice fresh fish and seafood, way way to much rice, and this would not be our go to sushi place as everything is prepared the same, whether ala carte or AYCE. We'll come back when we are extremely hungry, otherwise will go elsewhere. read more

For the price, it isn't a bad deal. I just wish the sushi chefs were less lazy and made a crab salad instead of just shoving a whole crab stick in everything. Yuck. Even Broulims has crab salad in their rolls instead of a gross fake crab stick. But the other rolls without the fake crab stick were really pretty good. read more

I went to this place several times between 2021-2022. My conclusion is that "at least don't go during busy rush hours". I'm mostly complaining about rice quality. It's a bummer that at busy times the rice are cooked as hard as stone and literally scratching my mouth. But at non rush times it was.. um ok...by luck. I think *quality control* needs to be worked on a lot. Also, last night I saw fish pieces being hammered super thin (1-2 mm) with thick rice chunks (2-3 cm) on nigiris. No. Please don't do that just wanting to save fish. I've seen better qualities of food being made here before. Seeing that I really seriously suggest sushi lovers going out to places like Salt Lake City or west coast major cities for sushi especially for nigiris. Sushi Time is a close by place for sure but at the expense of destroying a imagination of quality sushi. read more

I recently moved back to Idaho Falls after spending the last 17+ years in Seattle and so one of my first tasks was to find something here in town which resembled the Sushi options in Seattle. That was not a success. It doesn't exist. However, I did find Sushi Time and you simply can't beat the all you can eat price for what you get. The sushi quality is fine. For an all you can eat style place, it's fantastic actually as opposed to going somewhere you pay $15-20 per roll---you'd expect more. Again, Sushi Time is not that. It's good (not great) sushi and a very fair price if you do the all you can eat. My docking of stars has to do with the last 3-4 times I've been there. The service has fallen off a bit of a proverbial cliff. I don't know if they're nature staff revolted and they had to hire a whole new crew but anything short of that, I'm confused as to what happened. It took 25 minutes to get the drink I ordered until I finally flagged my server down and reminded him. Crew is nice enough and I have no issue there, just would like them to get the service speed and overall quality figured out and I'll happily update my review if that occurs. But as far as a food, it's good stuff. If you have expectations of a large city sushi joint, leave them in the car and you'll enjoy this place like I do. read more

If you are on the fence about trying Sushi Time, save yourself and roll over to Blue Hashi or Fuji. Seriously, Sushi Time was a disaster, to put it delicately. If you decide to go, just know when you walk in you will feel like you've walked into the back hall of some store, right into a messy desk area with a computer, a long hall and yes, shower curtains or drapes obstructing your view from the main dining area. There is no seating here if you are waiting for a table, probably because there is no room. It's bad. I should have known that I was in for a rough dinner when the first words out of the employee's mouth were a quick burst of aggressive statements, mildly interrogating me as to why I had chosen to come to dinner right now when their chefs and kitchen staff were in a meeting. I was told I could not have food and would need to wait quite a long time. I chose to wait, but upon being led through the protective shower curtains I discovered that there was no meeting. I'm still confused. After all of that I was ready for a drink. Hah! If you go for a drink, be prepared to play a game of go fish as they have not made a menu for drinks, BUT "we know all of the drinks we carry, so just ask us if we have a certain drink and we will be able to tell you." What happens if I don't know what I want to drink? I guess I'm out of luck. Haha! If you still end up going, they have a large selection of rolls and the $25 all you can eat is a pretty good deal, but the quality is all pretty subpar. Honestly I have had better sushi at someone's home who was a sushi hobbyist. I'm still not sure how I feel about the naming style on some rolls - one is called "Don't Ask." As in don't ask for this roll, don't ask us about it, don't ask for a drink...? There is also the World War I and World War II roll. You know, just in case you felt like commemorating world wars by eating sushi. Seems VERY normal to me but hey, I could be wrong. Throughout my ordering process some of my rolls never showed up that I ordered, the water had a chalky taste, like maybe a cocktail of fresh spring water and Sheetrock dust were shaken, not stirred. Thankfully, adding some lemon to the water helped me get it down. In the end, I ate a bunch of mediocre at best sushi, spent a little money then grabbed a burger on the way home to feel like I had something good for dinner. It was our third time visiting. Decided to give them one more try. Nothing new, so I decided to update my review. The first time was mediocre, no real complaints except for the waitresses not knowing what they were doing. The second visit, we came in were rudely told they are not open and closed for an hour until they reopen again. Last night we went around 830, it was somewhat crowded but nothing near folk Pacitti. The waitresses were absolutely horrible. Both visits that we ate there we had to ask for a plate with wasabi and ginger. They simply came to our table lay down the sushi and walked away. Both times this happened. Last night we ordered sake, again they came to our table plopped down the bottle on the table and left without giving us anything to drink it out of. Again, we had to ask for something to use for drinking this sake. One of the waiting staff came to our table asking how it was, and said her mouth is burning because she ate too much wasabi. Yeah, real professional when you had a piece of wasabi on your face while you're supposed be waiting tables. My wife went to the restroom, and on her way, saw two waitresses stuffing their face and laughing in the side room while eating, we still waited for our cups to drink our sake with. The three or four guys behind the sushi bar were very unprofessional, cracking jokes, nothing like a real sushi place where everything is typically professional looking and definitely not waitresses eating food while they're serving food. Made an order for pick up and was told the wait time would be 30minutes. 30 minutes passed and I went in to check on the status and it wasn't done yet. 15 minutes passed and they bring out two out of three of my order. Waited another 20 minutes. Only to find out they never sent my order to the kitchen . So now I'm waiting for fried mussels , so after an hour and 15 minute wait I finally get my order. Upon coming home only to discover the crunch roll was not crunch roll, the fried mussels was not fried mussels and the food was extremely cold from waiting over an hour.
