Placed an online order for almost $50 and when I realized the location, I tried contacting BOTH Canton & Cartana to cancel it due to the location is 2 hours away from me. I kindly said I had made a mistake and asked for a refund since there would be no way for me to pick up the food. They said no and frankly were rude about it. Called again the next day and sp[oke to a gentleman who had seen my order sitting there the previous day and had wondered why. I explained to him the situation and he said he would see what he could do and call me back...well imagine that, no call back. Love this place. I grew up in Idaho Falls and I'd eat here now and then. I'm not the person to ask about authentic Chinese or Cantonese food, but I like how they structure the menus. When I visit, it's always one of the restaurants I go to because it's low key, great service, quick, and you can always house our entire group (and I come from a big family). People are nice here and we often order takeout. Just be aware they don't accept Amex, that would be my only true critique. read more

I was pleasantly surprised with how delicious this place was. I got the mandarin chicken with fried rice (lunch special for $8.75). The sauce was perfect and not too sweet. The batter was light and crispy. The fried rice was flavorful and not dry at all. Just a heads up, they do not do free refills on soft drinks. Cute restaurant in the middle of a strip mall. Hilarious how you folks who live in the Idaho Falls area seem to like Canton Chinese food. No offense but you people need to get out more, but I can understand if you like this place if you've never sampled Chinese cuisine anywhere else. I lived in Idaho Falls between 1989-1993 after marrying an IF girl and even back then I never liked Canton because I grew up in the Los Angeles area with plentiful access excellent Chinese cuisine. We've lived in Chicago for 30 years, also a place with a China Town and excellent access to quality Chinese food. While visiting family here in IF this week we went to Canton because they wanted to. I ordered the Egg Foo Young, Pork Fried Rice and Chow Mein. NEVER have I see so much Celery used in Egg Foo Young or Chow Mien, and in fact I have never seen celery used at all in these dishes from any Chinese restaurant in all my years. Worst Egg Foo Young, Worst Chow Mien, Worst Pork fried rice I've ever had. IN fact, real BBQ Pork, chopped in small chunks is the standard for Pork fried rice and Canton uses shredded bacon. The Fried rice didn't really look or taste any different than the regular white rice included with the dishes we ordered, I question if they even fried the rice at all. First thing I'm going to do when I get back to Chicago is order Chinese from an old reliable place in our town to get the horrible taste of Canton washed away from my palate. read more

We've been going here for six and a half years and never ever had a problem. The waitress is the nicest I've ever met in any restaurant and she's worked here for years. I have a lot of trouble believing the negative reviews posted here. What I don't have trouble believing is that there are some pretty racist people in this area that would want to hurt a business owned by immigrants. We live the food, the cleanliness (which I check on purpose in every restaurant), and the very nice people that work here. The serving sizes are almost more than a person can or should eat so again no problem with the pricing. And, you get a lot more food here than many other restaurants which cost a lot more these days. I have been going to this place since 2014 when we arrived from Hawaii. We are used to traditional authentic food not Americanized version. Having also visiting Japan we know what it should taste like. This place was the only place in our area we could see it was close to everything we enjoyed eating. But, they decided to deviate from the recipe using SOYBEAN oil because the traditional Sesame Seed oil used in Chinese cooking was too expensive. I noticed due to me cooking a lot and can taste flavors and told her their version did not taste the same anymore. She said that they had to make that change. And when I visited about 2 months ago I got up to use bathroom and saw they gallons of plastic jugs that clearly said SOYBEAN oil. Which is a cheap version and it's not health to people in general especially those with thyroid disease. The soy bean interferes with the medication we take. And within an hour after consuming I was in our vehicle and had to tell my husband to bring me home to sleep. I slept for 4 hours. The side effects are being tired which makes you ver drowsy. I called today July 20, 2023 to ask if I took my own oil if they could please cook my food with my oil. The Asian lady which was one of the owners said No and that they did not use SOYBEAN Oil which made me upset because she was being dishonest. She not only lost regular customers, but they are affecting people good health. I try to eat clean and healthy and it's a shame that they could not accommodate especially since I was providing the oil for my own food. We actually took in a large party which brought them close to 500.00 work in money. The lady also had a difficult time trying to understand and claimed she was very business. Soybeans are meant for animal consumption which I only buy organic meats due to what they give to animals and we find almost in all Kinds of things. And yes I do read packaging for my own health benefits. We are what we eat. I will never visit this place. I guess I will teach myself to make their food which I have learned to do so and master it. So if you value your health ask them what oil they use. If you do not get to see as I did they will probably lie. read more

Terrible experience! Ordered 2 lunch specials, 3 large pork fried rice orders, and a Pea Pods with Beef dinner. I received the food to-go and the Pea Pods with Beef container had celery, carrots, water chestnuts, onion, mushrooms, and Pea Pods. The menu stated this meal was only Pea Pods, mushrooms, and Beef. First, I can't have celery and second the majority of the dish was comprised of just all the veggies I listed. I called the restaurant and was told that I apparently need to "verbally say what I Don't want in the dish". Ummm...okay. So there's lots of things I don't want in this, like ketchup, mustard, mayo, avocado, etc. However, I do want all of the things that are LISTED ON THE MENU!!! Had to go back a second time to receive what I ordered, no big deal. When it gets back to me (I'm at work so my 21 yr old kiddo is running for me in my car), they threw the box in the paper bag not sealed. It leaked and pooled in the paper bag making it soggy, falling apart, and the bag is stuck to the container. To top it all off, the to-go container isn't even 3/4 the way filled. I am furious. I stop working, drive over to the restaurant (now 3 trips back and forth with gas at $4 a gallon) and show them. I get a refund. That's it. They should've remade it AND refunded me. They both ordered meals & inquired about substituting sweet & sour chkn for seasame chkn & was told that it would be $1-2 max if any for the change. Not only did she not bring the seasame chkn she brought an order of cashew chkn that wasnt ordered. When we got the bill it was basic as possible & we had two additional charges. When i went to the front to pay & inquire about the charges she became very rude & agrressive. She then tried to belittle me by saying it was only a $7 charge & she doesnt make the charges she just adds them. She does add extra charges all right. Everything was pretty much what you would get at any Whitey-McWhite Chinese joint in California, except with perhaps less chili when it called for it, and cheaper and better quality meat that ran abundant in any dish (the same can't be said for the seafood, however). Back in the day, one could get a heaping portion of fried rice and a huge Chinese takeout carton filled to the brim with a choice of entree for a lunch special of under five dollars. I would almost always get the Mandarin Chicken, which consisted of fried thin filets of chicken breasts accompanied with sweet-and-sour sauce. Hey guys, no matter how much you blot this, you're still killing yourself softly with each bite. Oh, but the exquisite pain, the sheer pleasure of these lunch specials! Acceptable Chinese food in Idaho Falls? Could it be? I have been skeptical for a while now, and having a non-Asian waitress added to that skepticism. What could I expect from this town, right? Still, the cravings for rice were overpowering, and I decided to give this place a shot. Plenty of parking - it's in a little strip mall across from the Grand Teton Mall. I had the Beef Tomato with Green Pepper. My request for Light on the Onions was not ignored, and it was a wonderful meal. Lots of beef, lots of tomatoes. I had leftovers for the next day. And for those of you not into Chinese food and still want to step into this place, there is American food as well. Onion Rings, Steak, Salads to go with the Fried Rice, Egg Fu Yongs, etc. I can't speak for anything aside from the Beef Tomato with Green Pepper though. This is perhaps the most missed eatery of my youth. This is where I learned to take comfort in deep fried food after I stopped living with my mother at the tender age of 12, and where I learned what good fried rice is supposed to be like. I used to convince my third period teacher to let me leave class 10 minutes early just so I can take advantage of their 4.95 lunch special of Mandarin Chicken and bbq pork fried rice and be back in time for fourth period during 10th grade. In this same class I chose communism in China as my group project topic just so I can serve food from this place to my classmates as part of the "multicultural experience" (which was a required element of said project). Fo realz. Not only is this one of the cleanest Chinese establishments I have ever been to (and I have been to so many), it is also one of the best that I've been to. Be as it may their food might be boring, a little simple, and a little bit of the same thing throughout the entire menu, but what they do well, they do so well. My favorite fried rice will always be cooked here, sizzling in that greasy wok, hot, with bits of crispy pork, eggs, green onions - made as it would be the right way without the aid of peas, soy sauce, and carrots and other crap that are just a distraction. Their sweet and sour sauce is rich, thick, and full of pineapply goodness without actually having raw chunks of pineapples, onions, and bell peppers. Their meat is always fried to a crispy, greasy perfection, and served in heaping portions aplenty. And the prices!?! oh the prices. Ridiculous. So cheap. Also try the sesame chicken - which is chicken breast coated in seasame seeds, deep-fried and served with sweet and sour sauce; great egg rolls, fried prawns, cashew nut chicken, sweet & sour chicken, and lo mein. We have been ordering from the Canton for several years and this last time, had issues with an incorrect order and the amount charged. When we called to let them know and tell them that we were disappointed, they continually told me how wrong I was, argued with me, hung up on me (to which I immediately called back) and told me to bring back the food and they would replace it. I told them had a large group to feed and couldn't come back and were eating the food. They then told me they weren't going to do anything about my concerns. And were demeaning and rude. I then told them that I would write a review about my experience, and she told me that they didn't care. Lots of attitude. We won't be going back again. They have lost our business. read more

We ordered takeout from Cantons for Christmas Eve. The food was tasty. Some of the food leaked out of the box due to the container not being sealed tight enough. By the time we got home much of the food had spilled into the cardboard box. This led for less food for our family to eat. The vegetable dish we had was fantastic. The sweet and sour pork was a bit crunchy but still pretty tasty. The fried rice was delicious. Overall it is a very decent Chinese food restaurant in the area. read more

Make sure you go when they are busy or you get food that the owners have scraped off others peoples plates all day long. I have been told that when people dine in and don't finish their food the owners scrape it all into buckets or some sort of holders in the back and they will give that food to people towards the end of the night. I did not believe this until this happened to me. This used to be my favorite Chinese place. Now I recommend people find a different place to go. Trust me, when you pay for fresh food and order it to go, when you order the same thing every time, you can tell when it's been sitting around all day. So I love Chinese food and we'll last night we ordered take-out. I love egg flower soup and since it's cold I wanted to warm up my bones. We order chow mien and sweet and sour chicken with my soup. Well...so this is the first time I had to order noodles separate with my chow mien and they didn't ask if we wanted any when we ordered. So we just a small box of the sauce. And my soup wasn't eggy enough. In fact it seemed watered down. I still enjoyed the spring rolls and the sweet and sour chicken. I love this place. The food is always hot and fresh and delicious. The serving staff is pleasant and accommodating. Best Chinese food in town. Only one small quirk, bring cash or your checkbook, they are one of the few hold outs in the world that doesn't take any credit or debit cards.
