    Sweet and sour chicken
    Ruben S.

I was very disappointed! I'm a General Tso's chicken person, and I was hoping to find a decent plate here since my favorite Chinese place closed down. Nope! It didn't even look like General Tso's chicken! My kids are also sweet and sour chicken kids and their plate was full of dried pieces of chicken. Their crab rangoon had very, very, very, little crab and cream cheese in them and we could barely taste anything other then crusty shell. The egg rolls looked and tasted store bought and were not good at all! I do not recommend this place! Go to Panda Express! Just saying!

I'm on the hunt for GREAT Chinese food in the Idaho Falls area. Great Hunan wasn't it, even though their name led me to give it a try. Don't get me wrong. They were okay. If I had tried their food and then been given the opportunity to name the place, I'd have named it, "Okay Hunan," but "Great" is a little presumptuous. It's a place I might go to again, but it won't be my first choice. Here are the reasons why: 1. SMALL PORTIONS. We had a fairly sizable group, therefore we opted to order "dinner" sized plates and to share "family style." Anytime you order a dinner sized portion, you will not only pay more, but should expect a much larger portion. When they brought the plates out, I thought they had mistakenly brought us small lunch portions. They were extremely conservative with the amount they dolloped onto the tiny plates. 2. Flavor. The flavor was okay, but nothing to dance and celebrate over. Their egg foo young was really weird. It looked and tasted like an omelette. All of the other dishes weren't nasty, and they weren't amazing - just Americanized versions of Chinese dishes. 3. Temperature. It's snowy, icy, and super cold here in Idaho Falls. Please don't turn on the air conditioner. When we walked in and were seated, cold air was blowing down on our table. Why?? Who walks into a restaurant and starts sweating when it's only 10° outside? Who says, "I'm hot. Please turn the air on."?? One table away and 30 minutes later, it was still on the cooler side. So, nothing scathing, disgusting or absolutely horrific. Just an okay experience. Therefore, I shall give this restaurant the honorary name of "Okay Hunan."

Delicious ! We've been looking for food Chinese in the area and this fits the bill. Pan fried noodles, sesame chicken we're both delish.

Delish! Good size helpings of the pan fried noodles. Good sesame chicken. Clean, nice server. It was good, we'll be back. Best we've had in the area so far.

It was GREAT! Unfortunately they have closed the restaurant and retired. Their family was great and this restaurant will be missed.

I tend to like authentic chinese, and this place is indeed american chinese, but I thought I'd give it a shot. There were a lot of menu items I avoided - I knew I wouldn't like anything that screamed american chinese, but I found they had hot pots and a few spicy dishes that I might prefer. I said I wanted their spicy beef - extra spicy (the hot pot I wanted to try as was). When asked "1 to 10?", I said definitely 10 - as hot as you'll go. Well, it arrived at what I would call a 2, and barely that. But they were very good at bringing out some chili paste, and that made it a very nice medium spiced dish. Both dishes were very tasty, and I told my spouse I would be quite willing to come again, especially since it is just across a street from out business mailbox.

Knowing we would get home way too late to start cooking, I googled for Chinese restaurants, and this one came up on my phone with good reviews (note, on my computer the reviews were only 3.0, but on the phone, they were over 4). The menu was very small, and a little on the expensive side, but we already walked in, and wanted to get going home, so we decided to order rather than try and find another place to pick up food. BIGGEST MISTAKE! We both love spicy food, so I ordered the Spicy Hot Diced Chicken (Diced chicken, mushrooms, bamboo shoots, water chestnuts, green peppers, celery and green pear). and my boyfriend ordered the Spicy Hot Pepper Beef (Choice sliced beef with green peppers, onions, mushrooms, bamboo shoots in spicy hot sauce). We each ordered the small fried rice, mine with no pork. Where do I start? Neither one of the descriptions say carrots, but both had them (mine diced, his julienned). Mine was supposed to have bamboo shoots and green pears, instead it had peas and almond slices. The pieces of chicken were not diced, but the veggies were (not a complaint, but definitely not as described on the menu!) They were both supposed to be spicy, but the only flavor, let alone spice, was the crushed red pepper. Now lets talk about the fried rice. To start, we ordered small fried rice, as that was described to us as what would normally come with a meal, rather than a larger fried rice, which usually is it's own meal. Small is an understatement. I wish we had measured it before putting it on the plate, because if it was a third of a cup, I would be surprised. There was absolutely NOTHING fried about this rice. It was white rice, with scallions and a little scrambled egg (and pork in my boyfriends as ordered). No soy sauce, no veggies, no flavor, whatsoever. Because the portion was so small (it did not come with any other white rice), we will need to make more to finish the amount of food that came with the dinner portion of the meal. Fortunately someone knew that there was no flavor in their food because they put enough Soy Sauce in the bag to drown out the taste of just about anything. I also ordered a side of Spring Rolls, which is 6 of the smallest fried dough with barely any veggies in it. I chose to snack on one in the car, and it was horrible. I thought maybe I would try a second dipped in the duck sauce- MISTAKE! My bad because the car moved, and I spilled some on my hand, but it was HOT, and I totally burned the palm of my hand. Who serves HOT DUCK SAUCE? YUCK! I truly feel bad (or envy?) all of the people that wrote reviews indicating this is amazing Chinese food, because they clearly have never tasted good Chinese food. The best part of the meal? The pre-packaged fortune cookie. Literally the only thing that tasted like Chinese food should.

Some meals don't need hype. They just need a spoon and your full attention…read more The chicken yellow curry here is the kind of dish that makes you slow down mid-bite. Rich, creamy coconut milk. Warm, layered curry spice that builds without bullying. Tender chicken that clearly wasn't rushed or treated like an afterthought. Potatoes and carrots that have soaked up the sauce like they understood the assignment. And then there's the rice. A perfectly cooked scoop of white rice. Fluffy, clean, and disciplined. Not soggy. Not dry. It exists for one reason only: to carry that curry from bowl to mouth without wasting a drop. By the end, you're scraping the plate, not because you're hungry, but because leaving sauce behind would feel disrespectful. This isn't flashy food. It's confident food. Comforting without being boring. Familiar without being lazy. The kind of meal that reminds you why small, unassuming places often cook with more heart than anywhere else. But, I absolutely COULD NOT DECIDE between chow mein or fried rice. The cheerful food server said "you can do half and half, no extra charge." Wow. So, I got the half and half. It worked! But I do have a sneaking suspicion that the food server offered the half/half as a way to get me to the check out stand quicker, not that it was crowded, there were a few people eating and I was the only one in line, but it was 11:30, perhaps she was anticipating a big rush. On the other hand, the Drive Thru was doing a brisk business with a bit of a line.... The had a honey walnut shrimp entree, I was offered a sample. It is DELICIOUS! But it cost, I think... $1.75 extra as an entree, so I passed. I ordered Kung Pao Chicken and Beijing Beef. The Kung Pao was spicy, needed water after every bite. (I like it that way). The Beijing Beef, well, I want to say "where's the BEEF?" as it tasted more like chicken or pork! But it was good. And again, I liked the half/half option on chow mein and fried rice. Deciding to go check inside and ask about my order it seemed it was already bagged and ready. Noticing she shared a knowing smile with one of her coworkers and proceeded to laugh. As she brought it to the front of the register. Did they have me wait on purpose? Would I have received my food at all if I hadn't walked inside?
