The food we ordered was excellent. Apparently, they are doing very good online business because I watched the servers walk back and forth from the back to the front several with bags of food as customers came and went. We, on the other hand, were eat-in and waited over 40 minutes for our food. There was one other couple, one table with 3 people, and a family of four came in after us. Four tables were in play. We ordered two rolls and miso soup. We got water after 15 minutes. Soup 10 minutes after that. And our food 15 after that. I actually walked to the back and was going to ask for the check for just the miso soup and was told our rolls were just finishing. Appalling in-store service. Really bad. So, my advice is to order takeout from this place until they get better management. read more

This has filled that craving and that void, it's now 2022 and I am still in love with the food, the atmosphere and the owner is such a nice and caring guy! My husband & I grew up in California; we've had our fair share of sushi outings. We had heard of Dong's from a few people and decided to test it out! We didn't really care for it and I ended up getting rather sick from one of the rolls. We order every basic roll except for the spicy tuna & spicy salmon (caution: these rolls have very spicy sauce). We also tried the special Hawaiian roll. We love sushi. The rolls have double the rice, which makes you full faster. The only tasty portions are the spicy mayo (which isn't spicy at all). Couldn't taste the meat at all Overall, I preferred their Miso soup. The staff is very kind and the manager is a baby whisperer. I don't understand some of the more negative reviews about Dong's Sushi. It's honestly a really decent place to get sushi, at least it is the best in Rexburg. The Volcano Roll is definitely a good place to start, but I've honestly never been disappointed about any of the rolls I've had here. The wait has never been too long and the service is always great. But that's just my experience. Don't go on a fish-fast just because you live in the middle-of-somewhere Idaho. Give it a shot and it might surprise you. read more

Dong's offers very good and reasonably priced sushi. It is exciting to have another sushi option in Rexburg; this one may be the best and shows much promise. They have a diverse menu featuring more than just sushi, with other Japanese favorites like gyoza, beef teriyaki, and tonkatsu. Since it was the special on the Dealio, I tried the three sushi roll lunch special, which included free miso soup and a soda, for only $11.95 (see my photo). I enjoyed it all very much and I'm looking forward to future visits. Given it's location, I'm giving it a full 5 stars. While this is not the best sushi I've ever had (it's hard to find great sushi in a small, inland, rural community), this was surprisingly good and I would recommend it to anyone. FYI: Since this is a new place, the service was a little slow ... which is to be expected. Hopefully that will improve with time. UPDATE: I came back 4 days later and the service was much quicker. For Idaho sushi, it was ok. But I'm from California, so I had to accept before going that the sushi wouldn't be the same. The salmon Nigiri itself got a star. Which makes perfect sense since it's a river fish. The lost star was really from the wait. Not the service, but the wait. We had a pleasant experience. The wait staff was very nice and attentive. The menu has a lot of variety. We went in with the intention of eating vegetarian. There were not a lot of choices, but there were a few. We had Edamame, a jade roll, a veggie roll, and veggie yakisoba. All of the food was tasty and well presented. Honestly I couldn't tell much difference between the two rolls, but they were good. The do have tofu on the menu as an appetizer so we thought it wouldn't be a big deal to substitute tofu for chicken on the yakisoba. They told us they couldn't make that substitution. So we ended up with the chicken yakisoba without the chicken. They charged us full price. I thought that whole thing was a bit strange. Bottom line, it was OK, but I'm not sure I'll make much of an effort to go back any time soon. read more

They use plain rice! Not even seasoned or mixed with sugar and vinegar. Just plain ol' rice. Poorly rolled, the sugar/vinegar would probably help keep it together. Pros: Inexpensive and quick. It's the cutest little location right in the corner of a busy parking lot! It can be missed with all the options surrounding it but I absolutely love getting sushi here! This was one of my husband and i's favorite places in Rexburg - we came here around 5-7 times, it was never swamped with people and the sushi was always freshed! Never had to worry about browning or warm sushi! It was a little chilly but definitely worth the price and the service was always so sweet - eventually we started to develop relationships with the servers - we knew who we liked and who we didn't like so much! We used to go regularly for a couple months. Liked it. It's average and the waitress is very nice. Then my friend that ate with me there and I both got sick with the same stomach issues. I loved this place when I lived in rexburg, and I love it still when we visit. Everything is clean, waiters are pleasant, and the sush is delish. Husband and I were visiting rexburg after being gone for over a year. We stopped by Dongs for lunch and I can't say enough good things about our experience. We truly felt valued. Adam not only remembered us from over a year ago, but he was personable and treated us like life long friends. THIS is how all restaurants should be ran. Let me start with I'm not a snob about sushi. I eat grocery store sushi regularly. We went in around lunch time. There was only one server who was also acting as the hostess. She was busy, so the service was lacking, but that's not her fault. She was doing her best. However, the sushi was almost uneatable. I ordered a raw roll, and the fish was WARM! Gross. I can understand having a warm roll if it has been deep fried, but this was totally fresh fish. Then I got a spicy salmon roll. The cucumber took up the majority of the roll, and for their "spicy" they just put straight Sriracha. Not a spicy mayo. Not Sriracha mixed in with the fish. Just straight Sriracha right on top. My husband got a deep friend roll, and that was the best of the bunch, which isn't saying much. read more

This place is tasteless and disgusting. I'm from Los Angeles so I know a thing or two about sushi. I REALLY wanted to like this place and I've given it a few chances but after getting sick from one of their rolls I won't be coming back. Their fish is never fresh, salmon and tuna are always supposed to have a bright color, and every time it's been GRAY. Their "spicy mayonnaise" isn't even spicy, and they don't put any flavor or sauces/seasoning inside their rolls! THIS is exactly why I don't trust anyone's opinion in REXBURG. People here think they know food and they don't. I guess everyone is from Atlantis and eats algae becaus there is no other reason why people should think any food in Rexburg is good. THIS SUSHI was so dang boring!!! We paid $80 JUST so I could try almost all their rolls and see how they all were. All terrible. Let me explain, they are not terrible tasting, not revolting, but absolutely boring with no flavor or zing. If I'm going to pay $13 for an 8-piece Alaskan roll or mango cream cheese salmon it better taste good. But no. The rolls under their "basic rolls" are so basic. They taste like cardboard rice. The fish tastes like socks. They didn't have seaweed salad. The place looks like an office building. Not beautiful, no oriental music to set the scene. There is just nothing to this place. Pretty awful sushi. I ordered a crunch roll and I'm pretty sure they topped it with French's Fried Onions instead of tempura. Granted, I come from California so I've had pretty great sushi. But even when I lived in the middle-of-nowhere in New Mexico, I found way higher quality sushi. I also got sashimi and it did not taste very fresh.
