    Steak Banh Mi
    Barbara B.

Had lunch at this food truck and ate at the picnic tables nearby. It took a long time to get the food but it was clearly freshly made. I had steak bahn mi which was tasty. At $15 I thought it was expensive but I think that price is typical. Dining partner had tofu with noodles that they enjoyed. There were no drinks on the menu (would have enjoyed Vietnamese coffee). Worth checking out if you are in the area.

This place rocks! Fresh and tasty Vietnamese food, and a small menu means they can do what they do well. I got the chicken with rice and it was delicious as always. I like that it comes with some greens, shredded carrots, and a generous helping of sliced cukes on the side, it helps balance the meat and rice. Add in the the crunchy peanuts and just the right amount of sauce, and it all makes for a balanced bite each time. In addition to their year-round menu, keep an eye out for the seasonal menu, too: in the winter they serve delicious bowls of pho, and I've had some tasty fruit-based desserts in the summers.

Chicken and vermicelli noodles after I had already shoveled some down

This is a food cart that we visited when it was outside of Thinking Tree. I went Saturday with a friend and brought my husband back on Tuesday bc it was so good. Simple premise: pick your protein, then pick your base (rice, vermicelli noodles, salad, sandwich). I'm a sucker for noodles, so grilled chicken and noodles for me. Came with a lil side salad and some pickled carrots- so good. Hubs got chicken and rice and he REALLY enjoyed it. On my visit with my hubs it took a LONG time to get our food. I wasn't counting but my stomach was and it was WAY longer than when I went on Saturday. So I checked back and they had accidentally marked our order as completed. So they were very apologetic and refunded one of our meals. Mistakes happen, it's how they are handled that matters, so they made me really happy with their response. Then they worked hard to get us our food as fast as they could. Added bonus that we were outside of thinking tree, so we could snag a drink. Can't wait to go back.

Been back a couple times and I've grown to like it more. Good char on the meat and generous portion. Veggies and noodles are fresh. Wish they had a pork option.

The service was normal. I feel like for a food truck it wasn't anything surprising as well. We brought the food home(we ordered a rice bowl with chicken and the 2 bowls of noodles with beef) and we're excited to see what this place had to offer since we hadn't really seen a place talking about the city of Da Nang which we assumed would mean the food would live up to the expectations of this big city. We were a bit disappointed with many things. First and foremost the house sauce was comparable to sugar water and there was little to none of it to have with the food. Not only that, but the rice AND the noodles were overcooked and aside from having hints of Vietnamese flavor, this place missed the mark entirely. The portions were reasonable and there were hints of that flavor, but we just didn't have an enjoyable experience from this Vietnamese food. Hope things change soon!

This place has some banging Bahn Mi! The baguette is perfect and the pickled carrots were my favorite!

Pho as in faux!! Absolutely the worst attempt at Pho Ga (chicken rice noodle soup).

Pho as in faux!! Absolutely the worst attempt at Pho Ga (chicken rice noodle soup). You can't put some strange broth in a bowl w/flat rice noodles and slices of chicken breast in an Asian designed bowl and call it pho. Plus I clearly specified no onions, and that was completely ignored. I'm done. Will never return. Will not recommend.

Chicken over rice noodles and a glass is white Pinot noir.
    Darcey H.

It's Friday and unusually warm for January. This calls for the on-point fresh flavors of Vietnamese, a glass of white Pinot Noir and a picnic table. Fortunately all can be achieved at Da Nang's food cart at Oregon Wine Lab. Not feeling hearty enough for outdoor seating? No problem, inside OWL is cozy and friendly. My personal favorite from DaNang is chicken grilled to perfection over rice noodles with all the toppings; fried shallots, peanuts, garlic chili sauce. The tofu in fragrant tomato sauce is a close 2nd. But honestly all options, beef, chicken or tofu over rice, noodles, baguette or salad greens are fresh, flavorful, satisfying and well priced. (Check the hours before you head over for lunch or dinner).

Goddang, Da Nang, I'm always jonesing for you. Nothing cracks my whip at lunch time (or any time) like a boatful of your yummy noodles loaded with succulent steak, fresh minty greens and cucs, loaded up with all the good stuff - peanuts, cilantro and smothered with chili sauce. I'm not sure how they do it, but their marinated steak is melt-in-your-mouth tender goodness. Incredible flavor. Whenever I'm eating it I feel like a boss because I know there's absolutely nothing I could be doing that could be any better. While the noodle boats are where I jam (because I love me some noodles), the Banh Mi is the best sandwich I've found in town. A pillowy baguette loaded up with a generous pile of steak and all those damn toppings isn't losing any best-of contests to anyone or anything! Where I think Da Nang really wins is their all-star peeps that run that food cart like a championship race car driving team. They kill it day in and day out, super friendly service and they never miss a beat even when they're rammed with orders. Ordering online for pickup is a cinch through Doordash, but sometimes I just call 'em up. You'll likely encounter a line when you arrive, so calling or ordering online about 30-45 minutes ahead of pickup is a wise idea. Bonus material: this is a great spot to chill in the summer (or any season for that matter). The patio area is a little nook in the shade underneath a thick canopy of trees, and you can just grab yourself a glass of wine from Oregon Wine Lab and a boat of noodles and just hang. On a more personal note, these guys were one of the lone bright spots during my teleworking days during the Covid lockdowns. Getting out of the house and walking a few blocks and seeing their friendly (masked) faces made my damn day!

Tofu Com, pho, and rose lychee cheesecake
    Sierra B.

This food cart was one of the first I visited when I moved to Eugene, and I still visit it regularly. The flavors are fresh and well seasoned. The rose lychee cheese cake was a special for Valentine's Day, and it was the best cheesecake I have ever had. I hope they make this special again. If you are vegan, let the staff know since their dishes and sauce for the salad contain fish sauce.

I just had their beef short ribs with rice and it was SO GOOD! It was a little bit hard to eat since they were bone-in, but they were so delicious. I can't wait to go back and try some of their other meats! I had Da Nang while they were at the Food Truck Fest and they were very quick with getting my food out. I have been wanting to try them since we moved to Eugene three years ago, but I just never seem to get out and visit any food trucks. I'm glad they were at the Food Truck Fest!

But the market parking is always full, so parking is challenging here. First impressions weren't great in all aspects... there were 3 tables in total but we had to wait to order. Although we did get the complementary shrimp chips and water immediately. THE WATER TASTES FUNNY... like a hint of dishwashing liquid was still there, it was not just me, I asked the entire table and they agreed. It's a great space so definitely hip... but not without a cost... trendy location means higher burden for the business and higher prices. I didn't think I'd see a pho special priced at $24 yet in Oregon but here we are. Granted bone marrow is not cheap and it's a very unique rendition. The other problem is the volume of noodles... literally the cheapest part of the dish... there was very little for a $24 bowl. We asked for extra noodles and they obliged for $2. Also that bone marrow was DIVINE if you're into that... but yet again... it's "butter" so what do I eat it with? The tiny amount of noodles or the fried donut that has a lot of oil content as well... my answer is... MORE NOODLES! Oddly enough the bun xeo which usually is a lot of work to put together the omelette was a good value. Yet once again just the lettuce pieces. I'm comparing to pretty much every PDX joint... which gives more than 3 lettuce leaves... because honestly the omelette has enough protein to make at least 5. They need to rethink this. Certain herbs are harder to get and we're in Eugene, the palate is different but more than just mint would be nice. Flavor wise it was fine... and I enjoyed it albeit on the tame side. The Staff was very attentive on water refills and clearing dishes. A lot of potential... but some things are just off balance.

I set my expectations low since I live in the SF Bay Area, where there are multiple cities with "Little Saigon" districts. Upon entering, we had to wait a bit before any staff person saw us to and get seated. They didn't seem overly, busy, so I'll attribute it to being short staffed, growing pains and still relatively new. The restaurant was very open and spacious. We were eventually seated at one of the taller tables in the front of the house many of the other patrons were seated at tables in the back of the house. Once seated though, our server provided an overview of the menu, recommendations and his personal favorites. We were given a small dish of shrimp chips...a childhood reminder for me and it was a nice touch. They were freshly fried, crisp and not greasy. We ordered the pho bo tai ($19), bahn xeo ($17) and the com chien (fried rice). Firstly, the com chien, a family recipe, was amazing! I was really impressed with this dish and would order it again. The banh xeo was a bit lacking--it wasn't bad, but nothing really memorable about this dish. While it was generously stuffed with bean sprouts/veggies, pork and a couple pieces of shrimp, the downside was it made the batter a bit soggy and the crispness vanished--pretty at presentation, it did not hold up well and fell apart while eating. The Vietnamese coffee was strong but it had a strange aftertaste--kind of soapy. The pho was alright--nothing stand out about it. There was plenty of meatballs, sliced beef and lots of broth. With the exception of getting seen & getting seated, service was good. Our server was attentive, checking on us regularly. Overall, I may check it out again and try other menu items on my next trip to Eugene.

The veggie banh mi had a good amount of avocado and was flavorful and filling. The small spicy beef pho was pretty good. It came with a couple of fully cooked beef slices and the broth had some chili oil in it. For the toppings, they had cilantro instead of the Thai basil that I'm used to, but it tasted fine since I like cilantro. Some tables were a bit dirty, and it looked like they hiked up the prices of the dishes compared to the photos of the menu on Yelp. The combos were over $20. The service was fast. I came here on a Sunday afternoon and the restaurant was bustling. We got seated right away at a booth with a window view. My waitress was an older Asian lady. She was very nice, not too talkative, but she was on top of her things. I was craving soup and decided on the highly recommended tom kha with tofu. To start, we had thai tea, thai coffee and the shrimp triangle. For our entrees, we decided on the pad see eu (they spell it pad se eu here), panang curry. The shrimp triangles were very yummy. Definitely get those. The thai tea and coffee was good, but just a little watered. I expected the taste to last in my mouth for a little bit. But it didn't. For the soup, I was excited to taste the soup! It smelled really good and it was boiling hot. My thought after my first sip of Tom Kha was, ok, this is good, they got it, but it just wasn't quite there. I couldn't pinpoint what was missing. Then I figured out that they didn't use full coconut milk. It was just a little bit and it was the lighter version. How disappointing! I wanted the robust tang, spice and coconut like how I have at home. The entrees made me sad. I really, really wanted to love it. The panang curry should be rich, thick and creamy. Instead it was soupy. I was really expecting and wanting the curry to stick to my rice, but instead it made soupy curry rice. My daughter pointed out that the curry and the tom kha soup was the same color and consistency. I didn't want to believe, but I think they used the same base and added the appropriate toppingss and seasonings to make a soup and a curry. My saddest dish was my last one that came out. It was the pad se eu. The wide rice noodles was wet and in broken pieces. I'm Asian and I'm from Vegas via Hawaii which means we have a lot of Asian cuisines, we know our food and have friends who work in high end Thai restaurants. (Think Lotus of Siam) When rice noodles break into smaller pieces, it means the noodles are probably not fresh and got hard. To soften, the cook used extra water and the heat was not high enough to cook, so it stuck to pan, making the cook mix it around more...broken wet noodles that doesn't brown. Overall, I really wanted to love this place. It has potential. Maybe it was an off day but on that day I went, it didn't give me the wow I expected. Most of the items has the taste on point. Please don't water down the curry or use lower fat coconut cream. I'm not used to having regular brocolli in thai food either, but I guess this is what Eugene likes or what we can get. And people, share your food! Thai food is family style! Share it! Put it in the middle of the table and let the other person have some! I was people watching around my table and my table was the only one that didn't have our own entree per person. lol
