    Pizza capricciosa!
    Eduardo O.

I just heard of the restaurant through a Youtube Video. We just walked in on a Wednesday night with no reservation. They were a few tables free, but they put us on the worst table of the house. The person at the door was kind of pleasant. But the servers are pretty rude, maybe cause we didn't speak Italian. We ordered Cacio and Pepe and Carbonara. We tried a few places before and those were the best. Carbonara was delicious! The best we had in Rome. But the cacio and Pepe was too salty. We tried the pizza the day after and was delicious. Price was right. I would come back for the food. But Italians are so rude with foreigners. The tiramisu was ok.

Delicious pizza & pasta This restaurant was recommended by an Italian fellow traveller. We had a delicious lunch of pizza with anchovies and capers and cannelloni. Good food and good service!!

My wife and I sort of accidentally stumbled into Da Michele after our planned restaurant for dinner was closed, and I'm so glad it worked out that way. This place is as authentic as they come! When we walked in, we noticed we were the only people NOT speaking Italian there -- awesome sign! The house red wine was CHEAP and absolutely delicious. We split a spaghetti all'amatriciana (Rome's signature, with a tomato sauce with pork cheek bacon) and a sausage pizza, and neither disappointed. The amatriciana may have been the best I tried in all of Rome -- and trust me, I had more amatriciana pasta in Rome than I care to admit.

A great neighborhood restaurant that had a delicious salmon pasta and yummy pizza. You return and I plan on finding the salmon pasta recipe online and try to replicate it.

Seafood linguine (€13). Delicious. Highly recommended. Great portions, too.

I've only been in Italy (specifically Rome) for four days now but Da Michele is definitely in the top two restaurants I've visited thus far. Food quality + great prices = satisfaction. I ordered the seafood pasta (€13) and I'm so glad I did! The dish comes with a solid amount of seafood and a generous helping of linguini. It doesn't look like a more-than-average amount initially, but once you mix the dish around the portion reveals itself. The dish also wasn't too fishy, if that makes sense. I've had seafood pastas where the seafood-ness is overwhelming and overpowers the pasta itself; that isn't an issue here. My girlfriend ordered the veal with mushrooms and peas (€12) and I think that was definitely not as worth it as the seafood pasta, just in terms of sheer quantity. The flavor was good, albeit very salty, and the few bites I had were tasty. She did say it that she would've appreciated a starch to cut the saltiness. This restaurant had a lot of locals inside as well, so you know it's not just a tourist trap. Overall a great and recommended experience.

Looking for a place that is not packed with tourists and near our apartment, we found Da Michele. With the positive feedback from many others, why not? We timed it just right since there were tables available, we were promptly seated and attended to. Our beverages were served quickly and our order was taken just as fast. Our wait staff was friendly, spoke and understood English, and offered recommendations. Our food was served hot and just as we ordered. The pizzas were good size and great taste. The beer was cold and salad was crispy and fresh. My wife had the chicken breast and it was cooked just right. The restaurant was filled with locals and as we departed, there was line out the door. GOOD SIGN! Prices were very reasonable and the quality of the food was very good. The reviews of this place are spot-on and met our expectations.

This was our first meal in Roma and the service was excellent. We are arrived just before they closed for lunch and they gladly seated us. We had pizza and vino and it was good. They gave us a free limoncello after our meal which was nice.

Spaghetti all amatriciana and a glass of the house wine

Another day of endless walking led to another restless night at home. After looking through countless Yelp reviews, we decided to just walk down Merulana and see what we could find. De Michele wasn't far from our temporary home and prices seemed reasonable so we decided to eat here. We were tempted to go to the show at the theater right next to it which featured scantily clad women dancing in the windows, but erred on the side of good judgement. It took a while to be seated, but the place seemed to be packed by locals. Once again we had the joy of being served by someone who spoke little English. With some hardcore pointing, we were able to persevere though. I ordered the spaghettii all Amatriciana. It had a bit of spice with the chili peppers, but I definitely enjoyed it compared to plain ol spaghetti. Also had a couple of meat dishes (porkchop and beef), which were minimally seasoned, but cooked perfectly.

A lovely gem serving the classic Italian dishes at their finest. Still yet to be found by bloggers and social media but deserves to be as nearly every dish was fantastic. We wouldn't have found it if our original restaurant was fully booked out and went to find somewhere nearby and stumbled on this place. It was full of locals and service was efficient and friendly with staff all formally dressed. Yet pricing is very reasonable being outside the tourist area. The place as more modern looking compared to a lot of the restaurants we went to in Rome. It was brightly lit, white walls against dark walnut furniture. I would say it was medium size which creates a nice atmosphere. Bottles of wine surrounded the restaurant and became part of the decor Antipasti misto from the self service buffet. Be warned to not go overboard with the self service as they will charge more if you take more than the portion they think one should have. However with quality like this I did not mind, Lovely array of fresh grilled vegetables and quiche all creatively seasoned and flavoured. Many varieties, from pickled artichokes, to courgettes grilled with cheese, buttered peas and simply boiled spinach, all tender soft and delicious. I could have had this alone for my starter, main and dessert. Risotto ball and fried zucchini flower. The best fritters I've had in Rome. The risotto ball had a really thin batter breaking into a really soft al dente umami tomato rice oozing with mozzarella cheese. The zucchini flower was so light with a lovely surprise with being stuffed with a really fresh flakey fish and all beautifully seasoned. Fettuccine della casa al Salmone This was to die for. The pasta had a lovely bite to it, an excellent slurping consistency being smooth accentuated by the lovely creamy sauce. The salmon was pretty much mashed in there blending in with the pasta but was present in its rich flavour throughout the dish. Delicious and extremely moreish. Riso ai funghi porcini Probably my least favourite dish of the evening. However it did hold that lovely al dente sticky consistency I love. It was herby but just a shame there was another ingredient or herb in there that overridden the taste of the mushrooms and wasn't particularly to my taste. Could have been more creamier but that may just be a preference thing Cotolette alla bolognese The best breaded cutlet I've ever had in my life. In this case it was veal and although deep fried, the method of simmering them in its own broth and butter afterwards, pulled in a lot of flavour into the meat. The fresh tomato gave it a nice rustic zest and lighter consistency to balance out the lovely stretchy mozzarella in top. A dish I would order over and over again if I could return. Torte di ricotta cake This came fresh and warm. I very much appreciated the thin base and crust being crumbly and moist as it didn't take away the creamy and velvety texture of the ricotta cheese. It wasn't too sweet either and made a great finish to the meal Tiramisu. The smoothest and creaminess tiramisu I've had in my life. The mascarpone cheese was like silk, incredibly soft and creamy. The sponge was light and soaked in a lovely smooth coffee without being overpowering. The flavours of the cream, coffee and chocolate on top were perfectly balanced. I was there savouring every bite. This was our last dinner in Rome and what a great way to end it. The only thing it lacked was a personal touch and a lack of charm. But that is just me asking too much as even without it service was brilliant and food was exquisite. Not yet discovered by many so you might not even need a reservation if you turn up early.

Love the quirky servers. Enjoyed watching the atmosphere. Lasagna and 2 veal dishes excellent. I'm not a 5 star person. House vino ok.

Our hotel manager had suggested another restaurant, but I was apprehensive to try, but did later, more on that restaurant review in it's own post. I rather did what I should have done throughout the trip to, which is to search google for local reviews. This tactic I found to be much better than to trust American reviews for restaurants to visit from Youtube or even here, just because the American touristy taste tends to favor bland or Olive Garden style pseudo Italian. The real Italian taste is much different and something one needs to develop. I was familiar with European Italian food, as I had said before in other reviews that Mexico has better Italian food outside of Italy. Additionally, the good restaurants here in Italy do not open before 7 PM. If it does or if someone that looks foreign to Italy is outside trying to lure you in, it's a tourist restaurant with iffy flavor. At this restaurant my husband had the Lobster pasta and I had the spinach/ricotta ravioli, and we both were beyond satisfied. We also had the artichoke as an appetizer, and trusted the waiter with his suggestion for a bottle of wine. He must have been some genius because the wine went well with our meal. The ambience was cozy and very family oriented, however, the rain outside made it romantic for us. Another key point for this restaurant and it traditional flare was that they brought out the olive oil and red vinegar for our salad and of course olive oil for our wonderful home-made bread. I'm so glad we chose this place for those of us Americans who understand culinary cuisine.

Great first meal in Rome!…read more I loved my artichoke pasta dish with bacon, it was a daily special. The amaretto dessert was delicious! Carbonara was super al dente. Seafood risotto was fresh. Grilled radicchio was like stir fried. Dinner for 3 for 77 euros, impressively busy for a Tuesday night. Friendly staff, easy for English speakers. :)
