We ordered the fish & chips and a seafood fish mixed plate. Both were so good. However, if I could go back, I'd get the coconut shrimp because it was part of the mixed plate and SO FREAKING GOOD!! I took off a star only because the worker on Monday was NOT having it and was pretty rude. We stopped by around 10:30am because very few places were open. The worker didn't acknowledge us, say hi, or even look us in the eye. She asked us "ready?" while she was texting on her phone. We asked her for recommendations and she said "uh." Haha her rudeness made us conclude that she must have been hungover. We also saw her with her head down and sleeping as we were leaving. Overall I'd definitely come back! Everything was tasty, kept us full for the entire road to Hana drive + hikes, and the prices were standard for Maui. read more

Da Fish Shack - Fish and chips, seafood mixed plate - Food Trucks Near Me - Hana, Hawaii

Hidden gem! Just do it pull over, have a taco, have some shrimp, enjoy the goodness that is this local Hana hwy gem of a shack. Very friendly service, answered any questions we had, originally saw signs for a different biz that was closed and happened to be starving after exploring the beautiful Island. Coconut shrimp were the best we had on the island (1/5) the mouthwatering Mahi mahi (another best thus far) crisp juicy fresh delicious. The fish tacos were so good the pineapple salsa my goodness. Plentiful parking. They were also making snow cones! Or some frozen smoothie. Outdoor eating area available but beware of the mosquitoes if that phases you @ all. We took it to go & had a picnic at a nearby beach. Can't wait to be back in MAUI to stop by again. Mahalo! Definite fave. read more

Great meal. Very fresh. Prompt service. Would go here again when in Hana. Next to coffee truck

Amazing seafood and friendly after a long drive. Also loved the green beans, rice and sauce! Thank you and mahalo.

All the fish here is fried except for the Poke which was flavorless. You can get better poke at Lahaina safeway or even the Hotel Hana. There are better food choices in the area. read more

Hmmm so disappointed in the Fish And Chips. however, the crispy fish sandwich was very good and I will 100% be back to get the sandwich. The fish and chips however was a miss. Fish wasn't soft. Not sure what type of fish they used... but didn't hit the mark. read more

Wow this was the most incredible meal on our trip to Hawaii to date. I asked the woman in the window what to get and she said the mixed plate which was seared mahi on a bed of rice with pineapple salsa, green beans, and a few coconut shrimp. Holy moly it was incredible. Hot, juicy, flaky, sweet, and I could go on and on. The woman in the window clearly was annoyed with me asking what was good which normally deters me from a 5star review but I'm willing to take her crappy attitude regularly to get this meal. This is a MUST! Don't be nervous about the food trucks or thinking you won't get an incredible meal because this was just to die for!! This should be an official stop on the road to Hana read more

Da Fish Shack - Seared mahi, coconut shrimp, rice and veggies!!! - Food Trucks Near Me - Hana, Hawaii

Great spot to eat in Hana. There are several food trucks around town. I had the shrimp tacos which were tasty and I sampled the fish and chips which was also yummy! Definitely a good stop! read more

Thanks to all the Yelpers who reviewed this place before us so we knew where to eat on our Hana road trip! Since we knew we would be doing the full circle around the East side of the island, we wanted to find a great place for grub in Hana. After looking through all the reviews for Da Fish Shack, I knew both of us would be able to find something delicious there. They have a small lot for parking and limited street parking is also available. We headed to the truck and checked out the menu. They had a special for the day that included coconut shrimp, mahi mahi, rice, and fresh veggies. YUM! The coconut shrimp was perfectly cooked and the dipping sauce was delicious. The mahi mahi was so juicy and had a fantastic smoked flavor. The peanut dipping sauce went so well with it. The rice wasn't dry at all and the green beans were a fantastic way to tie everything together. (I'm so sad that I probably won't be able to have this again anytime soon!) The hubs got the shrimp po' boy and was similarly happy. I highly recommend Da Fish Shack for anyone looking for a delicious meal, especially if you are stopping in Hana for the day. read more

You're paying Maui seafood prices for a food truck experience, filled with just as good/better quality and solid presentation! I'd highly recommend eating here if you're craving fresh seafood while you're driving along Hana. It's probably the best option for affordable seafood especially during lunchtime. If you've been to Hana, you'll know that nothing is really "open" anytime before lunch. So for breakfast, we'd stock up on local fruits and drink hot tea and eat our energy bars, or stay at an airbnb where they'll probably have some oatmeal and plenty of fruits. We learned that the first night we got to Hana. At this area where Da Fish Shack is, there are other trucks and vendors...I remember a loco moco spot (cheaper than Da Fish) and a smoothie dude too. I went with Da Fish because I'm a pescatarian, and I enjoyed talking with the chef who was also the cashier. He made a delicious cajun fish burger for me, which I absolutely loved. The fries were on point. Crispy and just the right amount of fried. Good work, sir. I saw throughout the rest of my meal that a lot of local workers came to his truck vs the other guys, so I felt like I was definitely getting ONO food here! I'd definitely come back again and try their other items, but I was starving and the burger with fries was such a great option. There is communal seating around where people park their cars...and a little tent too just in case it rains (cuz it did when we were there in December). I was given napkins and Da Fish also has a bunch of utensils and extra sauces too. I couldn't find the tapatio, so that would've been nice. Nice, sturdy, seafood truck! read more

Da Fish Shack - Cajun fish burger. FRIES SO GOOD. - Food Trucks Near Me - Hana, Hawaii

4.5 stars This was a perfect lunch! Fresh, hot, friendly service, big portions Took a half star off because of the sauces, (see below) but would definitely come again Cheeseburger: Fresh Hana beef from happy cows. Delicious burger and fries, was gobbled up happily, easy 5 stars 'One of the best burgers of the island' Fish and chips: Perfect crispy and not greasy fry on juicy fish, excellent fries. Big portion. The tartar sauce was way dilly for my taste and there were no forks in sight for the side salad, maybe cole slaw? Also lots of dill. Would have loved a wedge of lemon and more lemony tartar sauce. 4.5 stars Fish tacos: Fish was fresh and juicy but overall didn't have much flavor at all. Came with lettuce, tomato pieces and a tiny drizzle of white sauce. Needs a salsa to punch up the flavor and to have something to dip the chips into. 4 stars read more

When you go to Maui you think of a nice restaurant and in this case it was a fantastic food truck and a picnic bench. Maybe it was just me but I had a really negative experience here. I ordered Katsu Ahi plate lunch. After asking for it to be rare I received well done Ahi tuna which is really just a fish stick. This was really disappointing after tromping around Hana and O'heo' gulch I was ready for a good meal. The rice was so sticky that it just looked like a pile of gelatin and not rice kernels. I get that rice is supposed to be sticky in HI but this was too much. On top of that there was barely any Katsu sauce on my meal. The green salad and tartar sauce were both very good. Overall I was disappointed and wouldn't go back. read more

Don't waste your time. Food is garbage, try another truck. Also, horrible customer service. My lemonade came out warm, I asked for more ice and the guy said "I can't do that for you." He also seemed very happy to deny this and has a smile on his face. I was hoping the food was better than the service but can't say the same. Pros- there is shade outside. read more

Da Fish Shack is located in a little food truck stall area. There are 2 in Hana, but both really close to each other. I got the Fish & Chips, and it was fine. Was really unseasoned, and desperately needed salt. The batter was nice and crispy, and fish was flaky but the dish lacked any sort of seasoning. read more

This is my also my first time trying this place at the kulamalu food trucks. I wanted to order the cajun ahi wrap but they didn't have ahi. The cajun seasoning made the food taste really good and i can't wait to order it again! read more

When in Hana, especially when it is a rainy afternoon, there isn't very much to do and even less places to eat as everything closes down early (usually by about 4pm). My husband and I were in town and had already eaten at a couple of the local places, and wanted something fresh and different. Da Fish Shack was about 10 minutes down the road from us, so we decided to swing by to check it out. We passed it the first time and had to turn around, but I'm glad we did! We rolled in about 15 minutes before they closed and ordered a crispy fish sandwich and crispy shrimp tacos. I normally am extremely wary of where I order seafood from, but figured I'd take the risk as Da Fish Shack came so highly recommended from other visitors, and options were slim anyway. My husband's crispy fish sandwich looked amazing - perfectly crisp on the outside, white and flaky on the inside, served with fries and tartar sauce. My shrimp tacos were perfectly crisp as well, the shrimp was succulent and not rubbery whatsoever, and they were layered with lettuce, tomatoes, some type of tomatillo-looking salsa and pineapple salsa. I was so impressed with this little stop on the side of the road. It is a little pricey, but based on what few options you have for dining out in Hana in the late afternoon/early evening, I would say the cost was appropriate. If you're in town and looking for somewhere to have some ono fish and seafood, be sure to stop by Da Fish Shack! read more

Came here after doing Haleakala National Park. It was the only food truck open so didn't have any other options. Got the crispy fish sandwich, the fries and ketchup was good. The fish had no seasoning. Basically fish sticks. My husband liked the catch of the day. The lady working the truck was EXTREMELY RUDE. She talked to us like we were bothering her. If you don't like your job maybe you should find something else. read more

Stopped by for a quick meal during Road to Hana, and sadly we were super disappointed. We ordered the fish tacos to share, and even with only one taco per person, we weren't able to finish because they were so dry. We ended up just throwing most of it away alongside the chips since we weren't given any salsa. I'd say service is pretty mediocre too, as the lady never really said anything the whole time and didn't even acknowledge our hellos or thank yous. I had a friend come here a few days later though who enjoyed her food, and it seems based on other reviews that there are a lot of mixed experiences here. read more

Da Fish Shack - Island Mix Grill special - Food Trucks Near Me - Hana, Hawaii

I have eaten at this truck twice recently. The fish and chips was very good indeed -- very fresh and well presented. My third visit? Not nearly so good! Yesterday I was thinking about fish and chips all the way up the Haleakala Highway from Kahului. I even decided not to stop for my regular fish tacos at Acevedo's on Alamaha Street. Fish and chips only! However, I was immensely displeased and disheartened when the lady behind the counter at Da Fish Shack told me "No fish and chips today," without any attempt at explaining why -- quite peremptory, indeed! As they were open for business, and their menu includes numerous fish offerings, I presume they had no fish and chips because they had no potatoes...but I'll likely never know. Maybe someday the aller of their excellent fish and chips will cause me to rethink this, but it may be quite a while before I try this food drug again. read more

Can I just say... the hospitality? The consideration? It was a very rainy dreary day in September... everything was closed and we were soggy and tired from our road The guy at that took our order at Da Fish was extremely accommodating and understanding of our situation. My friend has a very restrictive diet and he was ridiculously nice about it. Cleaned the grill and offered to make sure that she had something wholesome to eat. I cannot reiterate the gratitude that we felt in that moment. The true hero of our road to Hana. Please stop by this truck to be graced by the presence of this guardian angel. read more

At 3.45 pm there are limited options to eat in Hana. Thank God this place was open! We had the fish tacos and side of fries. They closed as soon as they gave us our food! I thought the fish tacos were just ok, not the crazy good ones I read in people's reviews! Better eat it fast because it's really wet and the tortilla gets soggy quickly! The salsa that came with the nachos was really good though. I I tried this place again I might have the fish and chips or the shrimp taco. The fries were a huge helping for a side and are a good filler! read more

Outstanding fish tacos. Better than the ones at the hotel restaurant I had last. Nice grilled flavor to the fish and really fresh toppings!

Save your money and go somewhere else. Poor customer service. The girl taking our order and lady in the back cooking was super rude about forgetting to provide us with utensils. The tables in front of the food truck were disgusting and clearly have not been wiped down for days. Food was also bland and disappointing, but after getting yelled at for trying to look for utensils not sure many would've enjoyed it. We threw out most of the food and went down the road to Huli Huli Chicken where everything was much better and with views you can't beat. read more
