We were so excited to eat at Joel's food truck once we reached Hana, and the food did not disappoint. We ordered the Loco Moco, and it was absolutely delicious. Two perfectly cooked eggs with that runny yoke, two hamburger patties, onion, rice, and a generous portion of gravy. All of that combined made a great lunch. If you're not starving, then there's enough to share for two. One of the best Loco Mocos we had on our trip. They're located in an area with multiple little food trucks, and they have plenty of tables in the middle to enjoy your food. There's a little parking lot nearby - we didn't have any problems finding a place to park. Their hours are not necessarily on a timetable - I don't think they opened until an hour after what they said online. But if you can make it while they're open, then it is totally worth it. read more

So we took the road to Hana. Yeah, that road. And boy does it ever create and appetite. We we stumbled onto was a food truck spot where you have literally 6-7 different options all selling the local flair and flavor. Both the wife and I decided on Joel's and for once we both decided on the same dish. With a quick order, we were spending some time finding a seat, and looking at some of the other vendors who are also here at the trucks. This is a great and casual place to get your food on. There are a couple of other places that you can go, but the food to choose from here at least for me is just too hard to beat. When we got our food, we were happy it's the portions of both the teriyaki beef and the garlic shrimp. I would suggest that if you get the garlic shrimp, that you have anyone else whom you plan on talking to or being closer than 2 feet from you also eat the garlic shrimp. These things are delicious but will keep vampires away for quite a while. Simply put this is a great stop to get your quick food on, easily eat in 10-15 mins and you can be on the road in 30 mins or less if your in a hurry, or like us, just soak in that glorious weather and have a great meal. The portion size was appropriate and the price is typical of what you will find on the island and keep in mind that you are also in Hana so just keep that in mind. No dollar menus here!! Amidst the nearby food trucks, we were pulled in by their relatively cheaper loco moco. Thankfully we made in time at 4:30PM as their last order. Their times appeared variable as they closed the kitchen when they ran out of ingredients. The owner talked to us tersely and kept saying that he couldn't hear us and that he only had so much food left that he could give us. This was reflected in their lack of mac salad which was replaced by salad and corn. Food took about 15 minutes to complete and we took claim to a nearby picnic table while we waited. =ORDERED= They also had a small selection of condiments near the front of the truck. Sriracha, soy sauce and mustard were amongst the few. *Loco Moco: two patties and two eggs on a bed of rice coated in gravy. The patties were more well done than preferred but they were still hearty. The eggs were cooked perfectly and were buttery. Beautifully golden and gooey. The rice was on the softer side with I preferred. Gravy was average and mild tasting. Overall the loco moco was on par if not better than the other ones in the area. Notably the price was cheaper so I would stop by here if they're open. I have been waiting to review this place. I probably ate at 10 food trucks on Maui and Oahu on my trip and Joel's was hands down the best truck I visited. I hadn't read a review- no cell service and I was just hungry and they happened to be open. What a lucky coincidence! I absolutely LOVE food trucks, and as my first real dinner in Maui, I was very pleased with Joel's! Located in a small food truck stop area in Hana, Joel's was one of the options to choose from, and it features beef, chicken, and shrimp. I ordered the beef teriyaki and garlic chili shrimp combo and went to go sit at one of the tables in the middle (might want to bring your own sanitizer or more napkins since other folks eat there with nobody really cleaning those tables). The food was fantastic. The beef teriyaki was quite sweet, and the shrimp was a little more chili-forward than garlic, but what really got me were the sides. Enough rice to pair with the meats (way better than just a scoop or two like other places), addicting corn with hella butter, and some of the best mac salad I have had. The portions were pretty nice, and I ended up taking a little bit back to the hotel to eat later. Stopped by here while we were In Hana. It was the only food truck open at the time we were there. So we decided to go for it. Super nice and kind staff members. We ordered the garlic shrimp platter and the classic loco moco. The garlic shrimp was good, very fresh shrimp and cooked perfectly. Lots of flavor too. There was something about the white rice it was on too, I just kept eating! It was our first time having the loco moco. My husband enjoyed it quite a bit. I wish I took a picture of it but before I thought of it I had already demolished the whole plate. It was fresh, super tasty, and prefect portion. Shrimp was perfectly cooked and well seasoned. I can't have corn and they let me have double mac which was deliciousss especially with tabasco on top. My new year was spent in Hana camping, and if you know anything about me you know I'm not well versed in the realms of roughing it. Sooo naturally I didn't pack nearly enough food. Chow's was the one place that totally saved my butt, being that finding places to eat in Hana on a budget can be extremely unpredictable. One morning my man and I split a Loco Moco, and holy ono it was. Dare I even say the b e s t we have ever had?? On our last night in Hana we were sure to stop at Chow's before they closed at 4pm. I ordered the Korean Chicken (HELLA BOMB) with my man ordering his go-to Teri Beef Plate. What really wowed me about Chow's, besides the incredible food, was their customer service. The young man and woman running the truck were so sweet. They chatted with us and asked all about our traveling adventures. But what put them over the fricken top, was that a couple came flying into the parking lot (after 4) in dire search of food. Being my nosey self, I obviously listened in . The two working in the food truck were more than happy to serve this couple, despite the fact that they had closed 15 minutes prior. THAT, people, is the definition of aloha. They didn't make the people feel as if they were an inconvenience at all, they were more than happy to accommodate. We need more Chow's in our lives. Honestly, we found Chow Wagon by accident since we originally wanted to get local organic fruits from the fruit stand in front of Chow Wagon. After asking the workers at the fruit stand on where to have lunch, they recommended Chow Wagon, which was conveniently located behind them. This place is a mom and pop shop food truck making yummy food. The hubby and I had the two catch of the day specials, sauteed Ono and Mahi-Mahi with the lemon caper sauce! Both were delicious although the ono was a bit overcooked. The plate came with 2 scoops of rice, a choice of macaroni or tossed salad, and corn. The godfather resorted for the cheeseburger, and he said that it was quite good too. Please note that the godfather likes everything! Note that you can call in your order if you're in a rush. After lunch, our dessert was the fresh fruit from the fruit stand, so it was a memorable lunch in Hana. This is a super solid food truck, especially given the rather random location on the Road to Hana. Chow's is a food truck in a parking lot - not much else. It's got a few picnic tables outside, making it pretty convenient, but there isn't much fanciness to it. A fruit cart outside seems to be a permanent fixture, so you could also grab fruit here if you wanted. Prices are pretty cheap for Maui. We got the Teriyaki Beef and the Korean Chicken with rice and corn for sides. All were surprisingly good - the Teriyaki Beef was rather tender and nice, even though I'm admittedly not a huge fan of the dish. The Korean Chicken was like a weird yet tasty sort of General Tso's Chicken. Honestly, this was a great find - I'd recommend it for hungry travelers especially. read more

Delicious!! We drove the back road to Hana and ended up getting to the food truck cluster where Chow Wagon is around 5pm. Thankfully they were still open!! A couple things had already run out that day, but it didn't matter because we were starving and the plates we did get, the roast pork and Korean chicken, were so good. The owners were super nice, the lady had said the gravy on the pork was heavenly and she did not lie! I was also very pleasantly surprised by the Korean chicken, the pieces were pefect bite sizes and the right amount of sweet and crunchy. 5 freaking stars for the Korean fried chicken plate. For $10 the chicken I ate was all the tasty delicious goodness of saucey garlic/korean chicken I have ever eaten BUT without the fat chunks. I imagine papa Chow squatting over a tub plucking the fat off chicken thighs meticulously night after night so that the chicken you eat is just what it should be: deep fried meat and not deep fried fat (which is usually some of what you get if you've ever gotten Fatboy's garlic chicken or are familiar with many of the kinds of asian fried chicken served in Hawaii). And I gotta mention that the sauce seeps onto the rice and its basically all you need in life after that drive. So while yes a place like Hana is a tourist trap and you will have to pay accordingly, the Korean fried chicken I ate here was definitely five stars. read more
