We were visiting Maui and left Kihei at 5:40 AM for our 7:00 AM reservation at the Black Sand Beach in Waiʻānapanapa. After we finished around 10 AM, we drove into Hana to find something to eat, but nothing in town was open yet. Luckily, the little food-truck area was open, so we stopped at the Ae's Sassy Taco Truck. We ordered two fish tacos, the nachos, and a carne asada burrito. I also got a piña colada and two lemonades. Fish Tacos: Really good! Very flavorful, and the sauce was delicious. Carne Asada Burrito: Solid and filling. Nachos: The toppings were good, but the chips weren't the best. Piña Colada: Absolutely delicious -- refreshing and perfect after the long drive. Lemonades: A little bland. Not terrible, just not the best. Since most places in Hana don't open until later, this food-truck spot was pretty much the only thing available that early -- and honestly, it worked out. The area also has a coffee cart, a fruit stand with açaí bowls, a Thai food truck, a breakfast stand, and a burger truck (which wasn't open yet when we arrived). Overall, Ae's Sassy Taco Truck hit the spot after a morning of exploring. Friendly service, quick food, and a good option if you're passing through Hana early in the day. read more

We loved this spot - after a loooong day of driving, this is exactly what we needed. Service was quick and we found the staff friendly. Parking lot isn't huge, but we were able to grab a spot and wait at the picnic tables and it was great. We ordered one chicken taco, one carne asada taco, and a taco plate with one shrimp and one fish, all on fresh flour tortillas. We honestly loved all of them - the shrimp and fish come with a chipotle aioli situation that was so good I asked for a side to add to the two meat tacos. I think the shrimp took the cake, but would recommend all 4! Beans and rice hit the spot and portions were perfect, they really packed them in. Only note is they don't open until 11:30, so get yourself a snack and hit this on the way back! read more

Stopped here about 2pm on the U-turn back from Hana. It's in a parking lot located with other food trucks so parking is limited and can get a bit crazy with hungry tourists. What we swallowed: *FISH TACOS: These were small but delicious. The sauce on them was very tasty. *CHICKEN BURRITO: This was very a good choice as well. The meat was well seasoned and so was the rice. The fish tacos and burritos were great. There are picnic tables in front where you can sit but it does get crowded. read more

After hiking and touring around Hana I worked up an appetite! Walked around the food truck plaza and settled with shrimp nachos! Ordered them and my order was completed quite quickly. There were lots of flies at the stop; I'm not complaining it's nature and outdoors. I opted to eat in my car. read more

Stopped by the food truck park on the way back to Hana. Had the 2 piece fish (mahi mahi) tacos. The tacos are small, but definitely worth it. The fish was perfectly seasoned and I loved the sauce on top. If headed back from Haleakala National Park, this is a great place to stop. Plenty of seating at picnic tables. read more

We have been on Maui for two weeks, eating fish tacos everywhere. I have had some good fish tacos while we've been here, but Ae's Sassy Tacos were incredible! We stopped here after our road to Hāna drive at the beginning of our trip and every fish taco since then has been compared to these and have not measured up! If we weren't staying on the other side of the island in Kehei, I would have probably ordered from here almost every day, that's how good they were. read more

these are hands-down some of the best fish tacos I've ever had and I've had them all over Southern California... Stood waiting to order with the open sign staring me in the face, and the worker opened the sliding window and I thought I was going to be able to order my fish tacos, but instead she turn the sign around to "closed" and said they're doing a shift change for about 10 minutes or so. It would've been thoughtful to take my order since I was the only person waiting and then close down for the shift change. Got two crispy shrimp and two soft shrimp tacos. They were amazing. I had mine with the hot sauce, my partner had his without. We ate them so fast I didn't even take a picture. Wow, so disappointing. The best thing about this place was the hot sauce... from the store. Barely any Mahi Mahi in the Fish Tacos or the Quesadilla. Couldn't even taste it, and when you did, you wish you hadn't. Also the cheese didn't even go to the edges. This is the kind of quesadilla you used to make in college... great at the time, but only because you couldn't afford anything else. No pride taken in making these meals. Happy to find gluten & dairy free food in Hana, they have corn tortillas and don't use soy sauce to marinate their meat. Just made sure to ask for corn tortillas and no cheese. I'd stay away from the rice and beans, the rice has some sort of brown seasoning cooked into it- when I asked about it she just said there was no soy and it was a powdered Mexican seasoning. As a gluten free person I've learned not to trust brown sauces since there's oftentimes gluten hidden in there. I ate the beans though, they're just standard refried beans. read more

DO NOT SUPPORT. She charged me 21.00 instead of 18.00. When I asked why, she said tax. I told her I was born and raised in Hawaii, and the tax here is 4.7%. She then said it was because beef was an upcharge, which it clearly wasn't. The bottom line is that she was lying. After I respectfully confronted her, she then gave me back 2 dollars cash. She acted as if she got caught. Very shady. She tries to rip off tourists by saying the upcharge on every order is because of tax. Auwe!! read more
