I would never recommend these guys to anyone. I contacted them based off their yelp reviews, but had a completely awful experience with them.
I originally spoke with the owner, Edward, to get a quote for my move. I said to him, "I don't want to expect 3 hours and it turn out to be like 6." He had his assistant, Mary, call me the next day. I told her about my apartment and the items in a garage on the same property I needed moved. She quoted me about 3 hours with a 3 man crew.
Moving day... It took a 3 man crew 6.5 hours to move my 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom apartment (plus 3 pieces of furniture from a garage). The move was only 16 miles away, so travel time was less than 30 minutes of that. Absolutely ridiculous. I also had two small, single car size garages on the property - one had 3 pieces of furniture, which they moved - the other had boxes and my workout equipment, they did not even touch this one. So it took them 6.5 hours for 3 men to move a 900 square feet apartment. It would have taken them longer, but at the 6 hour mark we asked them to just finish unloading the rest of the boxes into the living room and not to go back for the garage of stuff they left behind. After the move, even the men who moved our stuff said that Mary had told them it would be an easy job, 3 MAYBE 4 hours.
I was very upset obviously, since I had literally told the owner this was exactly what I was trying to avoid. I emailed Edward, he called me quickly, but was no help at all. He pretty much spent the whole call saying "oh well." His solution was to offer me a small discount on another move day to move the garage items... what!? I just told you that I had to pay you double what you quoted me, and you want me to give you more money? THEN, Mary calls me mad and the first line out of her mouth was, "so my crew tells me you're PISSED at me for telling you it would only take 3 hours to move." I actually have this phone call recorded if anyone wants to hear how hostile and rude she was. I've worked in customer service over 10 years, pretty sure that is absolutely no way to speak with a customer. After she finally calmed down enough to hear that all they moved in that time was the apartment and didn't even do the garage, she herself said she's never heard of it taking that long and finally apologized. Her solution was to have a crew come out and finish the garage at no cost, which I would have been happy with. Both she AND Edward told me they would call me the next day, neither did and never did anything else about it. So I had to go spend another $100 and another day off work to get a small moving truck and finish the job that they did not.
Two days after my move, I noticed on the receipt that they also had not deducted my deposit from my final move cost. I emailed them and was told I should have a check in a couple days. A week later, still no check. Called Edward and he told me it had not yet been sent and he would mail it that day. A few days later, still no check. I called Edward AGAIN, he said he would just drop it off that same day after work... he never showed up and never called again. So a few days later, I called again and offered to just go pick it up. Edward said he was out of town on a move and there wasn't one at the office (of course). So basically it was never mailed even though I was told twice that it was... and Edward continued to break his word to me. I finally got a money order two weeks after my move, probably only because I called and emailed literally almost every day until they gave me back my money.
I am happy to share phone call recordings and my messages back and forth with the company for anyone who thinks I'm exaggerating or wants to hear the ridiculousness this company put me through.
Edward and his company clearly have no customer service values. I have shared my experience with as many people as possible to warn them to stay away from D-Town Movers. I work in a large Dallas hospital so have made sure my coworkers are warned. My sister is also the office manager at one of the largest, most successful north Dallas real estate businesses, and she too has sent a message out to all of her agents to not recommend this company. I would never use them again and never recommend them to anyone. read more
