Three strikes!!! I have provided service to D'Nuez for years. First the one on Archer and then the one on Damen. I think the food is really good and the cafe de olla is amazing. However, I will no longer be providing patronage to D'Nuez on Damen. I've had small services issues before (First Strike), but nothing major so I overlooked them and kept visiting the restaurant periodically. My second strike was when they had just added a kid's section to their menu. I ordered a burger for my daughter, that comes with "orange water", according to the menu. When I got the check, they charged me $5.00 for a child's size orange juice. When I brought it to the attention of the waitress, she said the drink was NOT included with the meal. When I showed her the menu, she said that menu had not been implemented yet... Ummm... okay. The child's juice was the same price as an adult juice, but half the portion. Today on Valentines Day, was the last strike. My brother was going to treat my daughter and I for breakfast. We get there around 10:15am. The first floor was full, so they asked if we wanted to go to the second floor. We said sure and proceeded to go upstairs. First problem was that it was FREEZING upstairs. When I looked at the thermostat it was at 51° F. Looks like the furnace was heating up the area really slowly. After we were sat at our table, all the waitresses pulled a Houdini and disappeared. After maybe like 10-15 min did the waitresses re-emerge. We finally placed out order and I looked at the time 10:31am. They brought up our coffees and my daughter's milk a few minutes later. After some time my daughter kept saying, Mom I'm hungry. I kept telling her to be patient. Finally our patience wore out also. At 11:27am, we asked another waitress what was the ETA on our food, because we had been waiting already nearly an hour. She said she would go check. She came back and said the waitress was new and apparently never put our order in. We waiting an additional 20 minutes, at which point we were done waiting. We told the waitress to give us the check for our drinks, because we were leaving. She apologized again and said she would get the check and that she would ask the manager to speak with us. I spoke with the manager unbeknownst to me, because she didn't tell me she was the manager, I thought she was also a waitress. They were dragging to bring us our check, so we put our coats and walked down to go pay. Apparently they were stalling us, because as we hit the bottom step, we see them with our food, except for my daughter's. If anything, my daughter's food should have been the first thing they brought out, if they wanted to persuade us into staying. The manager wanted to comp the coffee, but my brother said, that we were not looking for a hand out. We just wanted to be provided with good service and food. We paid and left. If you choose to go to this restaurant, do not be sat upstairs, because out of sight out of mind...
Worst service ever and my six year old daughter's look of disappointment, will remind me to never visit this restaurant again. read more
