River's Edge Cafe - Chips with queso and salsa

River's Edge Cafe

We swung by River's Edge Café inside Prairie Flower Casino for a quick Saturday night bite, and let…read moreme tell you--it totally hit the spot. We wanted our food to-go, and the staff didn't even blink. Everything came neatly packed with utensils, making it super easy to grab and go. Honestly, whether you dine in or take it out, it's all served the same way--do with that what you will. We kicked things off with the chips and queso. The white queso had green chiles and just the right amount of heat, with a side of salsa that made it even better. Were the chips basically Tostitos? Yes. Did I care? Not one bit--they were still delicious. For $7, the portion was generous and perfect for sharing (or not). My husband ordered the Prairie Flower Burger and fries ($15), a double patty blend of ground beef and brisket topped with caramelized onions and your choice of cheese. He polished it off without a single complaint. It was hot, fresh, and exactly what you want in a burger. And the fries? Crispy, golden, and plentiful. I went with the club sandwich and house chips, and wow--that triple-decker meant business. For $12, the value was fantastic. My only tiny complaint? I wish they'd used full lettuce leaves instead of chopped--it got a little messy. But those house chips? Fresh, crispy, and borderline addictive. I'm officially hooked. Bonus points: you get a front-row seat to the casino floor while you wait. It's like dinner with built-in entertainment. Plus, the staff were all friendly and upbeat, which made the whole experience even better. The best part? We live just five minutes away, so everything was still piping hot by the time we got home. Their All Day Menu runs until 11 PM on weekdays and goes all the way until 2 AM on Fridays and Saturdays--perfect for night owls or anyone needing a late-night bite after hitting the slots. If you are a veteran, don't forget to tell them--you will get an extra 10% discount! I'll definitely be back to explore more of the menu--and I've already got my eye on breakfast next time.

Hadn't been to Cracker Barrel in literal years, and with some folks craving breakfast for dinner,…read morewe decided to give it a whirl. We were seated right away and told about the specials, which was a nice touch. Our server was friendly and took our drink orders while we looked over the menu. Not much seemed to have changed since my last visit, which is both comforting and a little nostalgic. I went with my old standby: grilled tenders, carrots, green beans, and hashbrown casserole. We also got adventurous with the mini pecan sticky buns. Cute presentation in a tiny cast-iron skillet, but unfortunately, the buns were lukewarm and more runny than sticky. When our meals arrived, the first thing I noticed was that portions seemed smaller. The chicken, carrots, and green beans were solid, but the hashbrown casserole lacked flavor. Some of my dining partners found their breakfasts a little on the cool side with gravy starting to congeal. Not bad, not amazing, just a little disappointing. We did not leave hungry, but it did not quite hit the spot. On the bright side, a stroll through the store was as fun as ever, with old-time candy, quirky gifts, and treasures galore. We be back, probably just to shop.

I could have had a corn bread muffin but opted to skip that. Everything was delicious. My friend had momma's breakfast with sausage patties, two over easy eggs and three buttermilk pancakes. Friday night dinner at IHOP--can it get any more festive than that? I think not! We had my…read morebreakfast-loving dad in tow, and whenever he can get breakfast for dinner, he's all in. So, we decided to try the new IHOP in Manawa. When we arrived around 5 PM, there wasn't much of a crowd, just a few tables with customers. We did have to wait a couple of minutes to be seated, but no big deal. Once seated, we were greeted by our server, who, bless her heart, had the worst case of hiccups. She could not get rid of them no matter how hard she tried and had to chat with us through the whole thing. She had already worked a full shift earlier in the day, so honestly, she deserves a medal for keeping it together! The restaurant itself had a clean and inviting atmosphere with cheerful pastel-colored chairs, which definitely added to the light, fun vibe. It was fresh, bright, and a pleasant place to enjoy a casual meal. We ordered drinks (coffee, iced tea, and a Diet Pepsi for me...(living on the wild side) and started looking over the menu. It had been literal YEARS since I've set foot in an IHOP, and I couldn't remember why! I was trying to pick something, but, as usual, I ended up second-guessing myself. My dad got the classic breakfast platter of eggs, bacon, and sausage. My husband went with the steak omelette, and I picked the House Scramble from the House Faves section because it seemed like a smaller portion, and I wasn't that hungry. It was a bacon, egg, and cheese scramble with hashbrowns. My husband promised I could try some of his pancakes when they came out, so I opted to skip the pancake route (WHY can't I just stick to my first choice?!). The food came out. My dad wasn't super impressed. He ate it but said he wouldn't want to return. He did, however, enjoy the coffee. My husband had no complaints about his steak omelette. He said it was hearty and filling. My scramble looked fine, and the hashbrowns were cooked crispy just as I ordered. But when I cut into the scramble, the cheese and eggs were mushy, grainy, and a bit gritty. I couldn't eat it. My husband tried it and said it was fine, but I wasn't having it. He ended up taking it home and finishing it the next day. I did enjoy the hashbrowns and half a pancake, though. That pancake was so good--light, fluffy, hot, and slightly vanilla-flavored. Everything I love in a pancake! If I ever go back, I'll definitely be sticking with pancakes. After all, it is in the name, right? Overall, it was a decent experience with friendly staff, a clean atmosphere, and cheerful decor. If I return, I'll keep it simple and just order the pancakes!

We always have wonderful experience when we come to this restaurant. Plenty of specials and always plenty of desserts to tempt you! I love the fact that there's a 55 and over a senior discount menu for folks that don't want the larger portions and quite frankly trying to be a little more economical these days. So glad that they're open around the clock as they are one of the few in the area to offer this service.

This location always runs on a skeleton crew, but we've come to expect it--and honestly, it adds to the experience. Our server, Julie, greeted us quickly and took our drink orders. They have a Coke FREESTYLE machine, offering infinite options, but I'm a purist--Coke Zero with lemon for me. My dad and husband, however, were in it for the long haul with a bottomless pot of coffee, polishing off two full pots between them. Dad's Order: The Triple Egg Dare Ya--three eggs, three bacon strips, three sausage links, two pancakes, two slices of French toast, and hash browns. Does he eat the pancakes or French toast? No. Does he give them to us like we didn't order our own meals? Absolutely. Why doesn't he order something smaller? Because he's been eating this same meal since the dawn of time, and change is not on the menu. Husband's Order: The Hearty Man's Combo--two eggs, smoked sausage, two bacon strips, two sausage links, hash browns, and a choice of pancakes, a muffin, or toast. He went with pancakes and extra toast because you can never have too many carbs. My Order: The Triple Decker Club with tots (hold the mayo, add honey mustard). My phone failed me, so there's no photographic evidence, but trust me--this sandwich was picture-perfect. Golden toast, crispy tots, and for once, reality matched the menu photo. And then... tragedy struck. The Pie-Inspired Donuts were sold out. I was too heartbroken to settle for anything else, but my dad powered through and took a slice of wildberry pie to go. Total bill? $118 after tip. But Perkins isn't just about the food--it's the ambiance. Warm lighting, the soft murmur of conversations, and the comforting clatter of silverware make it feel like an old sweater or your favorite diner booth. The scent of fresh coffee lingers in the air, mixing with the buttery aroma of pancakes sizzling on the griddle. It's cozy, familiar, and exactly what you want when you're in the mood for comfort food. Would we have loved to end the night with those elusive donuts? Absolutely. But even without them, Perkins delivered a meal that felt like home--and that's why we'll be back.
