Best food in all of Springfield... possibly even all of Illinois. We drive from St. Louis twice every other weekend and are always trying to find a decent place to eat. After two years we finally found this place. It's our new "go to" for Springfield dinners. I've had the Rueben (best ever) and the bacon Gouda apple burger (delicious) and my husband has had the Sheppard's pie (he loved it) and the chili burger pony (his new fav). I give d'arcy's pint 4 stars for the food. Now, based on my personal first time experience, I would give 2.5. I expected a wait, based on the rave and popularity, but their wait area was a joke. My boyfriend and I had to sit in the cold by the front entrance doors, and because of their popularity, the doors barely stayed closed from the customer traffic. Longest 20 minutes of my life (well, maybe). Finally seated, I almost immediately got a bad impression. Every waitress that past behind me hit my chair. We were seated near the patio doors, that have no blinds, therefore the setting sun was blinding. I dealt with two forms of uncomfortable. That's fine. I wanted to try and enjoy my time regardless. We got the stuffed portabello mushrooms as an appetizer. Firstly, it wasn't portabello mushroomS, it was one giant mushroom with stuffing. Not a bad thing. It was amazing!!!!!! Excellent appetizer I've been recommeding to anyone that will listen! So good! From advertizement on Man v Food and fellow yelp-ers, I ordered the buffalo chicken horseshoe. The food is great, particularly their claim to fame the horseshoe (or pony). Their cheese sauce is one of the best in town and their Irish specialties are great. The service though is terrible, they don't have to impress or try because people just keep going so they don't do anything but the bare minimum. There is always a wait, which is obnoxious, because they built a new location, but it seemingly isn't any bigger and the waits are worse. This is THE place for a horseshoe in Springfield. My last meal (if I was ever on death row) would be the Supreme Horseshoe-so good and a nice hot sauce to kick it up a touch. Darcy's cheese sauce is what really separates this place from others, great flavor and consistency. I have never tried other items on the menu but my kids have-they seem to enjoy chicken tenders and such. My only knock on the place is the wait-but it's well worth it. Good food all around but their buffalo chicken horseshoe is hands down the best one I've ever had. I was born and raised in Springfield so I think I can say I'm somewhat of a horseshoe connoisseur. I hope they don't read this and give less portions, but I would always get one to take home, save some fries and sauce (they hook you up) and then go to County Market the next day to get a rotisserie chicken. Then I'd cook two pieces of toast, reheat the cheese and fries, and make a horseshoe again haha. They used to be five stars but now every single time i eat there the chicken is burnt because its to small of pieces. if you want a good horseshoe or burger go to kreckles custard. Clearly the fries are in large made quantities, ready to go and the cheese sauce tasted like it was scrapped off the bottom of a burnt pot, I can't say the hype lived up to the taste. I went there with my husband last week. We had both ordered a horseshoe. I ordered a naked breaded chicken one. It was served with ranch and Buffalo sauce. I can't handle the Buffalo sauce and it had spilt all over my plate. The waitress asked if I wanted a new one, but I said no because I didn't want to wait another 45 minutes for new food. It took about 20 minutes for us to get our drinks as well before we had even ordered anything. I'm just so so with this place. I've been here 6x. It's pretty standard that when they say 10-15 minute wait, it's always at least 25. The food has been mediocre to good. They sometimes go very light on their cheese sauce, then they will charge you extra to bring out more. The atmosphere is great and noisy. Obviously good times are being had.
