Came by thinking that I could get a good cannoli here. I should have known I was wrong because the cannolis were prefilled. That made the pastry soggy. It was good but not amazing. It is a small deli/bakery with outdoor seating. The staff were all friendly, and even though they were slammed at the time all of our food came out within 15 minutes. I ordered the Italian panini with hot peppers, which I really liked. It was delicious. My husband and two of my teenagers ordered the turkey sub, which they all said was nothing special: bland. My third kid got the meatball sub and said it was good. The meatballs were huge. The spinach and ricotta arancini was bland. The sandwiches are big. None of us finished our subs. We all ate only half and then finished the other half for dinner. We also ordered some cannolis and a chocolate eclair. The cannoli is one of the best that I've had in Chicago, and the eclair was really good as well, but their cannolis have peanuts which they dyed green to look like pistachios- instead of using actual pistachios. Weird. Side note- I wouldn't order one of their focaccia in the case; We saw a small fruit fly buzzing around on one of them. All in all it was an enjoyable lunch. We came here after seeing some posts on socials. Needed to try the chicken parm sandwich. We arrived at noon on Saturday, there was a line just outside the door. We stood in line and waited, there were so many people in line that you really couldn't get a good look at what was inside the cases. We did see a tomato foccacia that we wanted to try, plus stuffed arancini. When we got to the counter, the young man took our order, we paid and he walked away. He never came back, as we forgot to buy drinks. I asked another cashier when she was in between customers, she actually told me that I had to wait for the guy that took our order. Made no sense. She was pretty rude as well. Finally, I got another person to grab the drinks for us. We were still waiting on our sandwiches, foccacia, and the arancini. We ordered 3 chicken parm sandwiches, one with the vodka sauce, plus an Italian sub and a meatball sub. While they seemed to be getting single sandwich orders .out quickly, ours took a while. We finally got our order, and we're able to sit down at a table in the enclosed patio area. We were surprised at how soggy the chicken parm sandwiches were, the meatball sandwich wasn't as soggy. The flavor was 5 they weren't soggy. We sort of figured that the chicken parm ones were made and sitting there while the meatball sandwich was made. A few of us said that they liked the vodka sauce one better. The arancini were good, I liked the tomato sauce that they were covered in. I didn't taste It, but the others really like the taste of the meatball sandwich. One of us mentioned that the meatballs were a bit tough. The Italian sub was good, nothing special, quality meats. I've been to D'amato's several Times; yet, I have never left a review. I guess I never left a review because I thought that everybody knows that they are 5/5. I can vouch for their pizza, arancini, and meatball sandwich which are my normal go to items. This time I switched it up and ordered the Chicken Parmigiana with Vodka sauce after seeing it all over my instagram feed. The Chicken Parmigiana with Vodka sauce itself was 4/5. The bread was as fresh as can be, and the vodka sauce was out of this world. The quality of the chicken was great (and thicker than the average Chicken Parmigiana); however, the breading fell off instantly so it tasted more like a grilled chicken breast than a fried chicken breast. I don't think that is necessarily a bad thing, but not as breaded and crispy as I'm used to. Overall, D'amatos is 5/5. Their prices are reasonable, their service is friendly, and their ambiance is reminiscent of an old Chicago Italian shop (because it is one)! Lastly, during this trip to pick up the Chicken Parmigiana with Vodka sauce I ran into the former mayor Lori Lightfoot and her security detail. I don't know if running into her was a good thing or bad thing, but regardless I was impressed that the servers at D'amato's treated her with respect; yet, didn't kiss her ass either. Really can't go wrong with anything here. Really friendly help behind the counter and get yourself an espresso drink to go along with the cookies that you might. I've seen whole sheets of pizza brought to patio parties. And basically all the subs are amazing as well. You can get yourself an amazing Caprese salad too. D'amato's is an old-school Italian bakery, established over 50 years ago, and that uses a 100+ year old coal-burning oven. It's in an out-of-the-way location along Chicago's Grand Avenue, but when I am in the area, I always have to stop. During yesterday's visit, I encountered a not surprising line of eager customers almost flowing outside the door. As you work your way up the counter, you have to walk past two, long glass cases temptingly filled with breads, cannoli, focaccia, butter cookies and other pastries. I ordered a beef sub, two focaccia (highly recommended...and the two I bought were loaded with black olives and artichokes), and a box of butter cookies. It was all fresh and delicious. It's not a fancy or charming place, and there is no where to eat inside, but the service is quick and friendly, and the baked goods are wonderful. It's well worth a visit. read more

There is a small table at the window where 2 people could sit and eat and several tables outside are available. We ordered a corned beef sandwich, a slice of pizza, and a D'Amato's combo (meatball and beef sandwich). The pizza had a nice crispy bottom with pillow soft top and was light on the cheese, definitely not your typical slice but still tasty. The subs were good and very filling. You can tell the meatballs are made in house and while they're good, next time I'd skip the meatballs and just order a beef because the beef had much more flavor. I know this place has really taken off recently with the viral TikTok videos going around, especially with the chicken Caesar salad sandwich and the vodka chicken Parm. Since the last time I was here, we decided to try the Caesar salad cutlet sandwich. I also got two boxes of cookie and some watermelon ice. Quite honestly the Caesar salad chicken sandwich was just OK. In my opinion. I actually prefer the regular chicken cutlet with just the lettuce tomato and mayonnaise. I just think that is very simple but delicious sandwich. the Caesar salad one we found overdressed in general. I wasn't too crazy about the dressing in general. The chicken cutlet is thin and crispy and delicious as always. The bread what could you say about the bread? It's delicious. It's a small place with a few seats in the windows, but there's also some side patio seating. Also have some take away items such as eggplant, Parmesan, marinara, etc. I don't think I would try the Caesar salad chicken cutlet sandwich again I probably stick with the Italian and the regular cutlet sandwich.
