I love how fresh the ingredients are and how they assemble it with such care! I'm usually not a fan of oily or packed sandwiches, but the flavors just blended so well together. The oil, vinegar, and mayo pair so well with all the veggies, giardiniera, and deli meats... The service was top notch. You wait in line, and they have a no cell phone policy to give them your full attention. They make sure your sandwich is packed evenly and made how you want it! The ambiance is like a small deli, and you have the option of getting drinks or chips with your sandwich as well. It's giving an old school deli that hits the spot! Pleasantly surprised with this place as well as nearby restaurants on 95th. Cheese & bread were the star of the show. Decent price point. I live downtown & I can't say there's a worth comparison. This place is Ben around as long as I can remember. Old school Italian sub shop. I think the subs here are fantastic and they make their own homemade Italian sausage on side as well. Everything's worth a try here. They're frozen cannolis are a big surprise here far better than I would've anticipated. I'd say they are on part with just about anything you get fresh. Stopped in for subs but once we saw they had pizza slices, we got that instead. My partner got the thin sliced pepperoni, described it as "fine". Said she didn't expect it to be incredible or anything since this place is clearly about their sandwiches. I got a slice of deep dish- which i really enjoyed. The sauce was a little more bland than I prefer, but i did enjoy it. Overall, good experience. Tasty pizza, clean place, fast moving, prices are fair. Best sub in Chicago. I've had them all and this is the best sub in chicago. I travel all over the country for work and always get an Italian sandwich for lunches and every single time, this sandwich trumps the others. The bread is amazing (not their's) and their meat is fresh. I hate that I went to Bari and Vinnie's so much prior to finding Fontanos - but I'm never going anywhere else. great sandwich, very authentic italian deli atmosphere. It felt very local and historic, i loved the decor. I had the wiseguy and it was excellent, i loved the different size bread options. got that baby fully loaded with everything but cucumbers. 8/10 on the sandwich everything was great except the bread could have been less generic. also some more options for bread would be nice. The oil and vinegar was the highlight, and it really cut through the grease well and a large 10 inch sub didn't have me leaving holding my stomach. I had a pick-up order and she initially refused to grant me access to the restroom saying it was only for employees (which I knew was a lie since restaurants in Chicago with more than 10 seats are required to provide restrooms). I went to the pick up desk and asked about the restroom use, and the employee said the lady at the front (who had just lied to me) has the key. I found Fontano Subs while training nearby, and I am SO glad I did! I had the 6 inch Caputo with Salami, Mortadella, Pepperoni, and cheese. All of their sandwiches come with mayo, lettuce, and tomato. For no extra charge you can add oil & vinegar, onion, giardiniera, olives, pickles, mustard, and cucumber, and let me tell you I added EVERYTHING! They took my order with a smile, and delivered a 6 inch sandwich that legit felt like it was 3 lbs. My first thought was to take it back to my training meeting, but when I took a look in the bag I could see the oil starting to permeate the paper, and decided to eat it in the car & catch up on my shows. Let me say, I'm so glad I did! (They do have a small dining area) When I first unwrapped I wanted to take a pic, but the sandwich looked messy, and with all the toppings you couldn't see the meat, so I thought let me take a few bites and give this sandwich pic some justice. Nope! Once you start eating, you just have to commit. I slammed this masterpiece in 10 minutes, and definitely had a combo of mustard, oil, and olives running down my arm when I was finished. Thankfully the good people at Fontano Subs included extra napkins, because, baby, I needed each and every one. Needless to say, no pic was taken of my Caputo. All the ingredients were fresh and tasty, and plentiful to say the least. The bread held up well under the weight of all that tastiness. Was it pretty to eat? No. Was it absolutely delicious, and I will definitely be back to try some of their other sandwich options? YES! Street parking only, and it can be hard to find because this seems like a popular lunch time destination. If you're patient you can wait for someone to pull out, then throw your blinkers on. My husband is in the hospital near Fontano's. So i brought a gift card I received from my folks for Christmas a few years ago. But in Illinois, grift cards don't expire. I went in today, placed my order and when I presented the gift card, I was told they don't take them anymore. I didn't know that was a "thing". Seems shady. I didn't tell my mom Shw would be very upset, that Fontano's ripped her out of $25.00 So if you have a gift card for Fontano's that you haven't used yet, you're out of luck too.
