The Italian sub is exactly what I want every time I come here. It is so consistently good every time! We usually pick up their homemade hot gardeneirnia which is the best in the city. We also grab some barese sausage as it is quite unique to them from my understanding. It is typically used for breakfast sandwiches, but we cut it up into sausage balls to make homemade red sauces that are quite good. Right away, it gives off that classic old-school Italian deli vibe, totally reminds me of being back home in New Jersey, which I love. Ordering was super simple, and I was helped right away. My sandwich came out in just minutes. The price for a 12-inch Italian was really good too, one of the cheaper ones I've had in the city, or honestly anywhere. I also loved that they have a little grocery section with Italian ingredients, meats, cheeses, and other items to cook at home which is a nice extra touch. I ate my sandwich at home. It wasn't the greatest Italian sandwich I've ever had, but it was still really tasty. Next time, Id ask for a few more toppings it was a little light on mayo and oil I just got it as is so good reminder when you order. The bread was great, and the portion was huge. I stopped by twice during my 3-day trip to Chicago, and that really says something. It's a small grocery store with a few standing tables if you want to eat there, but I ended up heading to the park since it's so quiet and I felt a little awkward nomming on my sandwich in the store. Make sure to go all the way to the back of the store to place your order. I tried the Italian cold deli and the Italian beef with provolone (extra $$). I personally prefer the Italian beef, it's dipped in the broth, which makes the bread soft but not too soggy, and the flavor really cuts through. The Italian cold deli is huge with a good amount of meat, though I found the bread a little dry without the broth like the Italian beef. This place is a staple - my parents were obsessed with this place when I was a kid and I understand why. As I grew up, it all made sense haha it's crazy, I've only visited this place one time in person. Fantastic beef. This was my first stop getting off the plane, and even though we went to a few places with great Italian beef sandwiches during our trip, this one set the bar. There was a line going down the aisle, but it went quickly and the folks behind the deli counter were quick and efficient. The bread was able to maintain structure after getting dipped, the sandwich was hot and filled with beef, and the vinegar from the hot peppers helped cut through the richness of the gravy. The deli is situated in the back past the rows of Italian goods and fridges of prepared foods. I wish I lived in the area; the pinwheel sausages in the deli case looked incredible! No tables or chairs, BUT there is a thin, small counter at the front where you can stand and devour your sandwich. Can probably fit 4-5 people and was perfect for us to just quickly stop and enjoy the sandwich. Was worried that we'd have to travel back to our hotel or eat on the side of the street before the sandwich got too soggy, but the counter saved us! So glad we came here. read more

One of the best Italian subs in the city. Plenty of quality meat and huge size. While they don't have anywhere to sit, grab a sub and some other goodies and find a nice park to enjoy your sandwich. A little while ago a few influencers put me on to the fact that Bari had an Italian beef, so I knew I needed to try it. For those that haven't been, Bari is a great little Italian grocer right next to that famed Chicago Italian bakery (see previous reviews). Bari has really quality ingredients and I've never been disappointed with any of their food items. The staff is always really kind. This is more of a grab and go place. I love the customization that is offered here that the other spots don't offer. The dip they put on their sandwiches is outrageous, but the bread still holds up really well. The grocery store itself is also super nice - a great spot for all of your Italian needs. They also have a good deli section. I got the classic Italian with hot giardiniera which was pretty good! So this keeps popping up on my yelp feed, my brother Phil, who is also a yelper said he loved it. It was the best beef he had . My boyfriend waited in the car and I ran in and there's a line so I called it in and they're like half hour wait so I went next-door to the grocery store that looked really good. Their bakery looked amazing and their French bread looked fantastic. I saw a policeman there and I asked him and he liked the other restaurant not brewery but that will be for another time. I already ordered my food over the phone. They said half hour wait big line you have to go to the deli to pick it up and then bring it to the cash register so you basically have to wait regardless so I opened up my sandwiches cause there was really not a place to eat unless you wanna stand up plus my boyfriend was in the car in the parking is very scarce so I had all three sandwiches. I had the beef with fresh mozzarella. The flavor was good a little salty and I like my beef sliced thinner. I had it dipped. It was good and then I had some of the meatball sandwich. It was good and the Italian sandwich was pretty good a little dry The bread the meat was excellent and then I picked up some dry goods. I probably might not go back there because I have some great stores up by me, but the people are very nice. It's really cute inside. It's just a little kind of a galley store and they have a lot of different Italian dry goods and they have a refrigerated section with their foods. I've been going to Bari for years. Their subs have completely fallen off. The Italian sub had almost no meat on it, the meatball has both my wife and I dealing with stomach issues (saved for the next day), and we got a quart of Italian beef that has literally zero seasoning.
