DO NOT RECCOMEND! I went to James looking for care from my car accident and was instead made more uncomfortable. He made insensitive jokes, saying that "being Black is a mindset" and kept insisting that he was African American himself. He kept asking personal questions and was overall being an asshole. On top of that, the facility was nasty. I saw people putting their bare feet on the exercise equipment. He had one man's foot propped up inside a pillow case, the same pillow cases that we as patients are all expected to put our faces on in the event that he does an adjustment. I felt rushed and like he wasn't really listening to me, something I also don't appreciate when going to the doctor. Don't expect fully focused one-on-one time with the doctors here, it's a small space and everything is open. Private information will be public, like your birthdate, what happened to you, etc. So, while you're waiting to get adjusted, he's touching someone else's foot, not washing his hands, then coming to adjust your back. read more

If you want the most knowledgeable, thoughtful, thorough hands-on therapists who treat you as an individual and not a case from some textbook, then you want to come here. Both Anna and James are incredible. They set reasonable expectations and treat the patient instead of just the condition. I am certain you will be hard pressed to find a better and more reliable team than the one at Cypress Coast PT. I will never go anywhere else and all my other doctors have been very happy to send me there. Never had a billing or insurance problem. DO NOT RECOMMEND!! When I made my new patient appt, I had a choice between a free 15 minute consultation or an appt that included an evaluation & treatment. With how much pain I am in & how much I was looking forward to getting physical therapy started, I chose the evaluation & treatment & they set up my appt with Ana. When I arrived, Ana was running a bit behind, as she was eating her salad & chatting with other employees in the treatment area as I waited (even though I was asked to arrive 20 mins prior to my appt), but everyone needs to eat lunch so I was understanding of the 10/15 min delay past my appt time (even though I thought it was extremely unprofessional to be eating in front of patients like that). Ana recommend a treatment (Mackenzie Technique), that she stressed multiple times was extremely painful, but she believed was the best treatment option as opposed to traditional physical therapy. When I expressed that I would be more comfortable talking to my doctor first & just doing the traditional physical therapy today, she became defensive & was even advising me that it was not necessary to continue seeing my doctor, with the treatment plan she was suggesting. She abruptly ended my appt & I never even received any kind of treatment, even though I was told both when I made the appt & also by Ana in the beginning of the appt that we would be doing treatment today. If we were not going to do treatment today, I would have gone in the for 15 minute consultation. Why would I pay $90 for an appt that did not even include treatment? That would make no sense whatsoever. When I called the office to express my disappointment, I was told the evaluations don't always include treatment, sometimes they do & sometimes they don't. She also claimed they don't offer free 15 minute consultations, even though it clearly states they do on their website. I was told I wouldn't get a response to my complaint for 2 more days, but luckily I did hear from Ana sooner then that, but only to say they refunded me my $, there was NO apology whatsoever or any kind of acknowledgment about my disappointment with the appt. Patient satisfaction is obviously not their priority & I would never patronize an established such as this. Very disappointed with my entire experience here. read more

James meets his patients where they are. If you're struggling in pain or need rehabilitation this is the ONLY PLACE TO GO! I like to exercise and so that's what he has me do while sneaking in strengthening so that my pain is relieved. His style of bodywork is unsurpassed. He's all hands on but you have to be willing to do the work! That's what I love! The motivation to move for pain relief- motion is lotion! Simply the best. As chiropractic patient for 40 years (with so-so results) I can tell you that James (and Anna) "convince" wayward vertebrae and other parts back into position. No cracking backs and necks, etc. Treatment is based on a deep understanding of kinetics, musculature and the human frame. Treatment is thorough and the rehabilitation exercises are precise and thoughtful. Meanwhile, in my particular case....after taking pain meds and other chemicals for months after injury, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. What a great place. Thank you James for taking care of my son. James is very knowledgeable and caring about his patients. We were recommend to James by a college pitching coach. My son went there for inflammation in his throwing elbow. We were able to make an appointment within a day when a spot opened up due to a cancellation. What I also like is that in those one hour sessions there was no waisted time. James goes right to work and and now almost two weeks later, my sons elbow is pain free. In response to Patti K's comment...I've been getting treatment from Cypress Coast PT as needed for the past 3-4 years. I've never dealt with Anna, but I have observed her on multiple occasions, treating other clients. In that period, I've overheard many appreciative comments from folks she's working on. She carries herself well, and isn't the type who's loud and crazy. If you're the type of person who needs a private treatment room in silence, then I agree with you Patti...this is NOT the place for you. The facility is one large room, with multiple stations, so there is no way to avoid the sound of conversation between staff and clients, but in all the time I've been there, no "yelling" or "hollering". Music is what I've always considered "background" volume, never been what I'd call "loud", and I'm really sensitive when it comes to noise and music volume; I don't like it, but have never been bothered, or even thought about it, here. Cypress Coast is a busy office due to their excellent treatment, so of course it can be hectic at times...why would you ding a professional on Yelp for that? Would you rather have the silence of a bad practitioner's office who can't maintain clientele cause he's lousy and no one will see him/her????? Your critique makes no sense at all. James and his staff are professionals who love their work, and want to make clients feel comfortable and at ease while being treated. It is not a formal place, sounds like that might be more your style, but that is certainly NOT a reason to give Cypress Coast PT one star. That's pretty shitty of you to do that. read more

I'd like to respond to "Patti K."s review from April 18, 2018: I am a patient of this physical therapy business and have been for a couple of months now. I have had chronic (and at times severely debilitating) left hip and back pain for almost 2 years that went misdiagnosed for a long time. After having numerous procedures and tests done, everything was normal so I was sent to a physical therapist (a different one than Cypress Coast) to see if they might be able to figure out if there was something mechanically wrong with me. My first therapist did not listen to me, nor did she bother to try and actually treat my problem. Instead, I was met with lectures about how wearing heels was the reason for my pain, I played on my phone too much (???), and if I just went to see her (paying $30 each visit btw) for shock treatment and ultrasounds 3 times a week, I could just live my life with this pain. I was not happy about this, so I sought treatment elsewhere. Enter: Cypress Coast and Anna. This is where "Patti K"'s review is really confusing to me because I feel like I am reading the review of a different establishment. I have two major points I'd like to make: 1. From my perspective, there is some light background music playing from a small stereo on one side of the room, and usually 2-3 other patients in there at the same time who are each doing their own therapy sessions. Yes, people talk and laugh with each other at times, but I have never ever encountered any disruptive "hollering" or "yelling" in my time at this place. It's actually a very pleasant atmosphere. Physical therapy is painful and uncomfortable, and personally I like having light music playing and nice people around me. It makes the experience manageable. My last physical therapy establishment (that I mentioned above) had me in a room by myself with no music or socialization for an hour. I was left to do nothing but think about how much pain I was in and counting the minutes until I could go home. Cypress Coast is a much better place and I would recommend this establishment to any of my friends or family in the area who needed therapy in a positive and caring atmosphere. 2. Part of "Patti K."'s review said that "Anna has not moved past the same two stretches". I would like to point out that during my entire time with Anna, I have only done ONE stretch with her. Yes, that's right! Just one stretch! During my first day with her, she asked me loads of questions and took a very detailed approach to carefully determine where she thought my pain was really coming from based on how I was explaining it to her. (I would like to point out that I was an emotional wreck during this initial visit - what can I say, I have been in pain for way too long - and she was still able to gently communicate with me through the questions and tests to get to the bottom of it.) She introduced a method called the "McKenzie Method" which she felt very confident would work for me based on what I was presenting to her. The thing about this methodology of physical therapy is that after your therapist determines the best stretch/movement, it is on the patient to continue these stretches (hundreds and hundreds of times!) as a self-care regimen after Anna gives you tons of guidance (and often corrections) on perfecting the stretch. Google it - you will find dozens of research journals that have real scientific evidence that validate this kind of therapy. After ~3 months, I am finally for the first time in 2 years seeing real relief and was even in tears just last week because I felt ZERO pain (for two hours!). If you are a potential physical therapy patient and are lurking on Yelp right now, please do not be swayed by "Patti K."'s review on April 18, 2018. Anna is a lifesaver and obviously loves her job and cares deeply about all of her patients. Her *one stretch* has saved my sanity and I'm excited to be pain free eventually with her help and guidance. read more

James is a miracle worker. I've come in multiple times over the years for enigmatic injuries that I was led to believe would be chronic. I recommend James at Cypress Coast SO very highly that I don't have enough adjectives. Super-knowledgeable, intuitive, personable, caring. Deeply kind. Effective and professional. I've had a lot of injuries and good physical therapists in SF & Berkeley. When I needed fairly standard rehab in P.G. post-knee surgery, I tried and was unhappy at my lack of progress at three different places in Pacific Grove. Lack of personal attention at one (a five-minute "evaluation"); a lack of anatomical knowledge at two ("I don't know those muscles, just do the moves") and a huge gap in confidence; I was surprised when no one could answer my questions, and I was simply getting a set of canned moves that weren't working for me. James figured out what was missing right away and gave me distinct strengthening and stretching exercises; I was walking better than ever in a couple of weeks. The Best, hands down, including the great PTs I've had in the SF Bay Area. P.S. No one likes to have to go to physical therapy, but the staff at Cypress Coast make it enjoyable and maybe even fun! Anna was my therapist, and she was excellent. She listened to my concerns and examined my knee to properly diagnose and treat my pain. After a few weeks I could return to normal activity and no longer needed crutches or my brace. I would still be getting treatment here (I reinjured myself ) if I weren't moving across the country. I spent about a year at Cypress Coast Physical Therapy. I love love love this place. I had the pleasure of working with two different Therapists. James is an amazing person who knows the inter workings of the human body. His staff his friendly, helpful, and all have the same purpose...to get you back to "normal". The first therapist I had at Cypress Coast was a traveling therapist (I honestly forgot his name). He was by far my favorite therapist from ALL of my therapists ever. He was able to read my express and body language and changed up my therapy sessions based on my day at work. If I was having a particularly rough day, we would hit the gym. If I was having a particularly good day, we would stay in and work on resistance bands. The staff is there to help you. I also worked with Anna in aqua therapy. She was able to get me in the pool and out within an hour. The pool is indoor and heated which allowed me to work through therapy in a low impact setting during the winter months. After trying several different therapy methods, Anna and the Cypress Coast Aqua therapy helped tremendously. After almost two years with a head,neck, and back injury, Anna was the therapist who was able to get me to a "semi normal" lifestyle. read more
