I felt that he made his decision prior to walking into the appt. as he did not take into consideration what I had to say about my hips, pain, limited mobilty, pain when lying down, etc. I wasted weeks waiting for the appt. He stated that my MRI was not that bad and he felt that since I did not get relief from my previous injection, the issue was with my back. I told him I knew it was my hips and that after having two back surgeries I knew it was not my back. He did not care about my level of pain. I was in and out with no help or solid plan in a few minutes. He dismissed me completley. His office kept calling to schedule my back MRI and I declined. My pain managment doctor also disagreed with him, and he's in the same office. He wrote me a referral to Stanford. Fast forward less than four months later- Had my hip replaced at Stanford by Dr. Lipof. He said in addition to other issues, tears, etc. my labram had become detached and was just laying on the socket, one of the worst he has ever seen. I had presented all of the symtpons to Dr. Meckel. Get second or third opinions until you find someone who will take you seriously and don't give up until you find the right solution for you. I hate writing poor reviews, but this was poor medical care and I deserved better. read more

It took awhile to get to this Doctor, I had to go through a couple of other referrals. He is very thorough, easy to talk to, patient and professional. If you have need for a specialist in this area, he is, in my opinion the one you want on your side. read more

This review is strictly for my first meeting with Dr. Meckel. The office was professional, and my wait wasn't too long. Dr Meckel was friendly and asked me why I wanted a knee replacement. After x-rays were taken, he spent a generous amount of his time answering all of my questions. He was patient and I walked out with a wealth of information. I'll do a little more research, but my gut feeling is I will use him. Yes, I've heard of great surgeons who are in the Bay Area, but I got to thinking...what a pain it would be to have to drive 4 hours round-trip for checkups. I think I'll stay local. read more

I recently had a hip replacement performed by Dr. Meckel. I cannot say enough about him and the way things were done. I was so impressed by the level of education he provided prior to the surgery. He gave a class for all of the patients who were scheduled for the following month. Questions were encouraged. My Mom had a full hip replacement with Dr. Meckel. While he may be a gifted surgeon, the lack of personal attention and follow through when post-op issues arise is shocking. They use an app to communicate with patients and seem to consider that sufficient. When my Mom was experiencing a terrible medication reaction, I was shuffled around on hold for 18 minutes and still never was connected with Dr. Meckel or his Nurse, James. On one of her follow up appointments (where you only see the nurse), I shared our experiences with the nurse and told him how impersonal it felt. He apologized and gave us his direct line. But then when she had a relapse of horrible pain, we experienced a similar lack of response. At first James called back, but then to schedule the tests he ordered we called repeatedly with no return calls, being told they would call her to schedule an MRI, which never happened. This clinic is about getting you in and out for profit. If you are looking for personal care and a caring physician, this is not the place for you. read more

I'm young, well at 40 I still think I'm pretty young, and I now feel like I'm in my 20's again! I used to say "I have the hips of a 90 year old" and while they may still be, they certainly don't feel that way anymore! I had terrible arthritis pain in my hips for years. I couldn't sleep through the night without waking up crying, I hobbled everywhere, even almost crashed-n-burned down stairs on a weekly basis...then came 'Superman' (at least that's what I like to refer to Dr. Meckel as). I held out for as long as I could to get surgery because they say it's best to wait. After almost 7 years, I finally took the plunge and Dr. Meckel walked me through every step of the way. His staff was so helpful and attentive. I never felt that I wasn't fully supported by any of them. By the time I came to grips that I wanted the surgery, I hoped we'd be able to perform it that very day....while that wasn't possible (obviously), I had just the perfect amount of time to prepare my home, my family, my work, and myself for the day. Even though it felt like I was waiting for Christmas to come (like I did as a kid), it really wasn't that long of a wait.
