This is a really fantastic store. It's certainly more niche (I think they are the only motorcycle accessories focused store in Austin), but the way this place is run and the staff is simply amazing. Prices are very reasonable, and they carry premium, name brand products and entry level products, so you can find something that fits your budget. Their sales staff are actually smiling, and want to talk to you! Most of them fit somewhere between hobbyist-enthusiasts themselves, so occasionally will have experience using the products you are looking at buying. If you go in, ask for Eric or Chris.. both are very knowledgeable and will talk you through what you're buying. Eric always has something clever to say about the gear you're looking at, so it makes it fun to shop here. Customer service is good too. I had a Dunlop Q3 tire that lasted maybe 100 miles and started to leak, and after replacing the valve stem, continued to leak. I had to get approval from their corporate office, but they called me the next day and I told them about what was happening and they agreed to refund the tire so I could buy a new one. read more

My first visit here was not pleasant at all. When I walked in, I wasnt greeted. I even walked around a bit trying to figure out what I needed/wanted for about 20 minutes and no one in the store acknowledged me. I understand each rep was with a customer, but they could have at least acknowledged me or tell me theyll be with me when theyre done. Anyways, I walked out of the store frustrated. I went online and researched a couple riding jackets. My issue is that I needed a small size but since I am tall, I need them to have longer measurements in the body length and arms. I finally found one that ladies were reviewing it was too long for the average female rider. I went back to this store and told them exactly what I wanted and showed them a picture of it on their site from my phone. This apparently made it easier. The cashier right away was able to pull it up and told me they can order it and it will be in within 3-5 days. If it doesnt fit, I can return it. He then told me that small probably wont fit me because I am too tall and generally small is for girls that are 5'3. I decided to still go with a small despite his advice. After I left the store, I got a call about 30 minutes later that the small was out of stock. He recommended me to go to a medium instead of a x-small. I asked him for the arm length measurements. So again, despite his advice, I firmly asked for him to order the x-small for me. Finally the jacket came in just after 3 days. The suspense was killing me. Did I make the wrong choice? should I have gotten the medium? Am I going to be busting out of the itty bitty xsmall jacket? I put one arm in the jacket and I immediately smiled. Then the other arm. It was a perfect fit. The cashier was so amazed. He then said he didnt think at all it would have fit me for my height and now he knows this specific brand runs longer in size compared to most others. After this experience, Im sure you are still wondering why I gave it 3 stars. The cashier was very friendly and professional. He was just giving me advice based off of what he knew. He also gave me lots of advice since I was a newbie rider. I would come back to this location but only if I had an idea of what it is I am wanting. read more

I've had both good and bad experiences at this Cyclegear and I think it honestly depends on who is working. I have bought most of my gear in person but the longer I'm riding, the more I'm willing to pay for better gear. So, I mainly come here to get a good idea for sizing so that I can order online where female riders have: a better selection of items, better price points and easy access to reviews. I have bought my Sedici jacket and gloves here where a guy was super helpful in helping me make my decision. Questions about sizing and special ordering are pretty important to me since I'm taller than the average female rider and he answered all of them. I have gotten multiple helmets here and they have honored their return policy by letting me switch sizes. Honest and helpful. However, my most recent visit to Cyclegear is where they kinda lost me. I went here to try on some motocross gear because I'm getting ready to cross over into the world of dirt. There was a couple of people working and they were both giving almost all their attention to one customer who was purchasing many items. I felt slighted a little bit because I wasn't really given the attention I had received from other workers in the past. Their selection of women's gear is abysmal and even worse when it comes to motocross gear. After I tried on both of the only pants for dirt they had, I made my sizing decisions and left to go home then order online. I really want to like this place. I really do. Woods is good for parts but they're kind of overpriced in the gear department so Cyclegear has become my go-to. Idk how long I'll keep going in person to get gear but I'll most likely always stop by for maintenance items because it's convenient. read more

This is the best place in town to gear up for your ride. The staff is knowledgeable and very mellow even when they are super busy which they usually are. The selection is incredible and they carry just about anything you could imagine you'd need: Helmets, boots, gloves, jackets, vests, rain and winter gear; stuff for touring, town, or the track. Stuff for men, women, and children. Even parts and tools. They've got it all. I needed a set of frog togs at the last minute and they had them in stock in my size - a women's large. And speaking of women - ladies, you will get just as much respect and attention as any guy who walks through the door. They didn't assume I was a rider's girlfriend! Down side: Very crowded with stuff which you have to step over and push your way through (but then again that's why they have such a great selection); No real dressing room but you can use the bathroom; Everything is expensive, although they do have occasional sales; The parking can suck because it's near Trudy's, but at least they have two reserved spots right in front. The one thing that would give this place 5 stars is to move to a bigger location. read more

I bought a bunch of stuff and the customer service was great

Forget this place. And its not even the customer service. One employee was wonderful, the second was kind of pushy but quite nice and the third was down right disappointing. It was the business plan really. I went into the store to pick out a helmet. There was one on sale for close to 50% off of $150, how could i pass that? Well they didnt have that helmet in the store. So they offered to order it for me at no cost, nor would i have to pay full price. I was then informed that it would take 5 to 6 business days. Reasonable, it was a saturday so i was thinking either friday or next monday. They said they would give me a call. I paid half the price of the helmet as a deposit. I went home and I tried to forget I even ordered the thing. Friday came and went, along with the weekend. Monday I decided to call around 2pm, I needed to know if i was going to make a trip up there. They said it still wasn't in, call back tomorrow. So I did. Tuesday, same response. I'm starting to get a bet nervous and frankly a bit upset with the way I'm being treated. Wednesday I call in, they say they will take a look at it and call me back in an hour. About three hours pass, I have to do some shopping in the area so I decide to just stop by. I politely inquire about my helmet and they start searching the store and their databases. Ten minutes later I am told that the order was never received. My helmet is never coming in. The employee just stares at me, offers me nothing. Just a blank look like he expects me to do something about it. I ask, what happened here, how did they not receive my order? Did you just not put it through? His response: our system is very unreliable. The warehouse in California has to find the order and there is no way for us to know if they found it. We can't check up on it. Our system is not electronic, this is not an unusual circumstance. Then its just blank looks. We just stare at each other for perhaps 45 awkward seconds. He offers no way to amend the situation. He offers nothing in terms of consolation, perhaps there might have been an apology but I'm kind of doubting it. I don't want to blame the employee, I mostly want to blame the business for having such a foolish system. The result, I was given only one option by the employee, reorder the helmet, not expedited in any way, and receive it next Friday. If I found another helmet some where else in the mean time i would be reimbursed for the portion i already paid for their helmet. So that's what I did. If the helmet is not in Friday I'm taking my money back and telling everyone I know to stay away from cycle gear. Okay, plus one star, they had my helmet on Thursday. Maybe just don't order anything from them. read more

I went in to buy a helmet with about 500$ in my pocket. I guess I dont look the yuppy Harley owner type because the were so busy up-selling two of them that was ignored for 20 min's. After overhearing the salespeople lie thru their teeth about what one needed and didn't need to obvious inexperienced riders who had more money than brains I was pretty sure I had this place figured out. I tried on several models to ensure what I wanted I left in disgust that they had gone out of there way not to help me. To bad you were working so hard on selling a 300$ helmet that you let my 500$ walk away. I ordered off line and saved about 14% delivered on a nice Shoei Gt air wanderer helmet. Cycle Gear must do this in training because I have read other reviews complaining of the same customer service. If you don't know anything about motorcycles and just bought a 25,000$ one and look like your ready to go shopping at the Domain not go riding, much less riding daily then head to cycle gear they know how to part you from your money with crap you dont need and over priced gear. read more

I often say "the attitude of one employee makes or breaks a business" and this is the case at this store. I have traveled north and south to avoid this store because of the one employee that does give the impression he does not want to work or one is inconveniencing "him". I had a jacket to return and for 2 or three days consistently he said "there is not enough cash in the register" to do the return. A different day, i called, i was told "come over today, we have the cash", and when i arrived, less than 20 minutes later, the same employee told me "we do not have enough cash" and "whomever answered the phone does not know" "he left to the bank"...i asked for the store manager and he opened "the other register" and gave me the cash. I stopped here to buy a ramp so I could load my used-but-new-to-me motorcycle in the back of my pickup. Cheerful, prompt service, and a good price. As I embark on a new hobby, I suspect I'll be spending a lot of money here in the future. Next up: a helmet, maybe boots and a mesh jacket. I must have had an abnormal experience, but I've rarely been more frustrated by a sales experience. After waiting in front of the helmet display in the front of the store for 20 minutes and watching other customers (who had arrived after me) be served, I finally asked one of the sales people for assistance. I was looking for a simple black helmet, and I had found one that I liked. They didn't have it in my size, and, instead of trying to find another option or offering to order the one I wanted, the sales associate tried to sell me a helmet that costs twice what I said I wanted to spend. I just left. Wish I had the good experience that others have. read more

Great for tires and small accessories. They are one of the only places in town that offer cycle tires with road hazard insurance. They can special order parts at very competitive prices; and the parts arrive pretty quickly. The only down side is that their gear is just a tad bit overpriced. I usually buy my oils, chemicals here. But recently i had them change a tube for me. they didn't tighten the rim lock down, so after riding, the tube spun around, and i had to put a new tube in at the track... I'll never make that mistake again read more

I recently went in to purchase boots that were on sale. Needles to say my size and color were out of stock, the new kid helping me was very friendly and eager to keep me satisfied as a customer. I appreciate his enthusiasm and courtesy, while his trainer on the other hand. Complete Jerk. The guy was an ass to me and his trainee, while we placed an order for the boots he rang them up at regular price while they were on sale. I understand sales happen and not everyone may be aware of which items are discounted. This guy was a straight jerk and looked at me like he wanted to stab me because I told him they are listed at half off. He barely helps the trainee understand how to make an order and rushes on to help another customer. A week goes by and I hear nothing after I was told it would take 2-3 days. I call in and the very helpful kid is on the phone, again extremely courteous and willing to maintain my satisfaction. I told him no sweat, I'll just wait for their phone call when my boots are in and I was just touching base. The next day I get the call my boots are in, and I go the following day again to pick them up. The kid takes a little while in the back of the shop and is very apologetic that he accidently ordered the wrong size. I was okay with this, not pleased I would have to drive back to the store a third time for one item now, but I'm okay nonetheless. I asked him if he would mind checking to see if any other colors of this particular boot may have come in with my size and if I could just take those home instead. He eagerly goes to check in the back while I browse the store. B.S. aside, I am very pleased with his customer service and had decided to purchase a few more items on my visit for my bike I found while browsing. That is, until the jerk showed up. As they walk out of the back room not realizing I am in the isle next to them, I hear his jerk manager/trainer tell him. "I don't want him taking home another color of that boot because then we either have to ship his order back or get stuck with it in our inventory. Make him wait for his pair to show up." Excuse me? What kind of customer service is that? I PAID for my item already, the fact you can't train your new staff correctly is now my fault? No Sir, I am NOT okay with this. The kid was eager to let me go home with a different color of the boot in my size and I was again appreciative of his efforts. The manager/trainer on the other hand, couldn't even look me in the face and ran off. Sorry but I am NOT going back to this store, and I hope the young man realizes how shady this business is being run. I will NOT hesitate to take my money to the competition down the street and even pay a few dollars more to have a better experience. Went in there today to buy some riding pants... Ended up looking at boots also and I was in an ATV accident when I was 13 years old and had to have my left foot amputated. I asked if I could buy 2 different sizes and they kindly told me yes so that I could wear proper safety gear and feel more comfortable riding! So glad they where able to help me. Also they did not charge me anymore than they would have if I would have bought 1 pair! Very pleased with the staff and their customer service! I come here mostly for RainEX and FogEX.. . essentials for when the weather turns cold and I can't see shit out of my helmet. I bought a Shoei RF-1000 here a while back.. for 40 percent off .. and saved a good chunk of money for a really decent protection. They have a really large selection of helmets. Their selection of women's gear is sorta small.. but it's not bad.. . it seems that this place is more geared to toward the motocross/dirtbike.. sportbike crowd. but... it offers a bit of everything. Good place to try stuff on and then order it online.. Hate to say it but you can't beat some of the deals that are online.. way cheaper than any store I've ever seen.. . oil, grease, air filter cleaner.. you name it.. they have it on 2 shelves.. Also have tires and you can order parts... which I have no experience with since I do all that directly with Urban Moto Shop.. but my friends who have a Shadow and a Ninja say this place is a good go to if you need something quick.. read more

I like this store since it was redone to include the Dinase line of material. The slection in-store is adequate for the motorcycle community of central Texas. What I can't find in the store I know I can get online. In this day and age of higher gas prices more and more people are turning to the less expensive of life on two wheels. I'm all for a place that sell affordable safety gear to the community. I use this store on a monthly basis for all my motorcycle needs because they don't have to same markup as a dealership and they have no brand affiliations; I feel like I get an unbiased opinion when I ask what they think of a particular product. Out of all the times I have been in the store I have never been forcibly sold on a product based on some sales goal or misguided attempt to sell so many of something. read more

I don't hand out 5 stars very often, but I gotta say Cycle Gear earned it. Bought a battery (with a lifetime warranty) a few years ago at CG in Houston. Apparently this product had some returns and has since been replaced it with one carrying a 1-year upgradable warranty. Last week the bike wouldn't start after spending the winter on a trickle changer (also from CG), so I had to set about returning the battery. I first logged on to Cycle Gear's website and talked with their online chat help who were helpful but fairly insistent that I needed the receipt to make the warranty return. I followed their advice and sent them the transaction date from my bank records to research. However, later that day I decided to just stop by the local Cycle Gear shop and see if the store could just take care of the problem and I am really glad I did. I walked in, explained the situation and Eric said he'd do everything he could to help me out. He was sympathetic to my situation, even relating his own recent dead battery story...every biker knows that sinking feeling when the dang thing won't start. Anyway, Eric was able to locate my customer record with my prior purchases including the battery. We figured out that my battery was purchased prior to the warranty change and gladly took care of my exchange with no hassle or bother. Since the new battery only carries a 1-year warranty he extended it to 2 years at no cost. Throughout my visit Eric was upbeat and attentive and obviously very helpful. Cycle Gear not only seems to staff with friendly people, they are knowledgable and enthusiastic about motorcycles and the people who ride them. While they may not have made a sale with me that particular day, they made a lasting impression on me as a customer. I will definitely think of them first when next I need some riding gear or accessories. -EM PS..a few days Cycle Gear Customer Service emailed me to say they had no record of my battery purchase..which is odd because I saw it on the screen at the store. This review would have gone an entirely different way had I listened to the online customer service folks. So, even when the home office customer service team is off their game, the folks at Cycle Gear here in Austin are taking care of business by taking care of customers. read more

The first time I walked into this place I thought I was going to find exactly what I needed. Their inventory is heavy on their Bilt brand of gear. They have a plethora of gear for such small real estate. Amongst all the Bilt gear I setteled on a Dainese textile jacket. I wanted the jacket in a white version and the associate said they will have to order it. They were so busy that the sales associate said, "I'll place the order in the system when I get a chance." A day or two passed and I called to check-up on my order to make sure it went through. Thank goodness I did because they said, "We cannot get this jacket and the company doesn't carry it anymore." I checked the jacket company website and it appeared that the jacket is still being manufactured and is available in the U.S. The real question is why did they fail to communicate this to me? Is it not common courtesy to give your customer an update when such matters occur? I blew this off and decided to continue giving them my business. I continued to search and decided on a white leather Dainese jacket. I found exactly what I was looking for on the Cycle Gear website and was certain this was in stock. I brought this to the sales associates' attention and watched him place the order. He said I should expect it in three to seven days, as it is being delivered from their California store. I called on the third and seventh day and they said it is not in. I asked if it was in transit. They ignored my question and said, "We will call you when it gets it." Freaking two weeks pass since I made the initial order and I decide to give them a call. They said it came in three days ago. This was horrendous. Again...why did they fail to communicate this to me? The manager said, "Oh...I'm sorry I was so backed-up with paper work and it was put on the wayside. I'm the new manager taking over. I just want to let you know that this jacket arrived to us with a blue ball point pen mark on it. We are trying to get you a new one as soon as possible." I drove to the store to look at the blem and they said they could give it to me for a discount. I was fine with that as this transaction was taking too long. I tried on the jacket and it was the WRONG SIZE!!! I told them to order the right one and call me. They said it will take another three to seven days. I'M STILL WAITING ON MY JACKET!!! Should I cancel the order and place the order on the Cycle Gear website? The website claims it would ship in two days. The opportunity cost for the whole transaction turned out to be extremely high. As soon as I get this jacket, I will shut my doors to their business. Their failure to execute customer service is destroying their own foundations. You can have the best products, but WITHOUT CUSTOMERS THERE IS NO BUSINESS. read more

Worse cycle gear i have ever been in (and i've been in plenty throughout my travels). First off it extremely small and not a wide variety to choose from. But the lack of customer service takes the cake. I went in for simple question and ended up waiting for over 10 minutes before someone at the counter acknowledged me at all. I had to sit there and listen to some tall blonde employee go on and on about her "cool" bike..blah blah instead of tending to the customers walking around aimlessly with no assistance in sight. I would recommend a different motorcycle shop for those who care about customer service and variety rather than the employees own bikes. read more

I've shopped here more than a few times. They have a pretty decent selection of helmets and other gear that ranges from entry level budget helmets and such from Seven Zero Seven, MotoBoss, Frank Thomas to higher end stuff from Dainese, Alpinestars and other high-falutin' eye-talian makers. Every day prices aren't too bad for a brick and mortar shop (sure you can find it cheaper online, but you can't try it on and take it home same day if you buy online) and their sales are pretty decent (picked up a nice Dainese Laguna Seca jacket for a little over 300 including tax, haven't found one cheaper yet). Their return policy is very friendly, had a couple pairs of gloves that didn't work out (stitches coming out, numb thumb) and they took them back even though it had been more than a few months since I bought them. Can't speak to their tire install services but they seem to have the occasional good deal on tires. All in all, a good store. Sometimes it can take a while to check out when they have more than 3-4 customers in the store, but since they are attentive to customers that makes sense and I can live with it. Protip: Those 2 spots in front of the store with the motorcycles painted on the pavement that say "motorcycle parking" are just that. Please don't be a jackass and park your cage there if you drive it to CycleGear. Parking a car in motorcycle only parking in front of a motorcycle oriented shop is both fail and face palm. read more

I've had mixed feelings about this place. Sometimes you go in and get great service and sometimes it's horrible. New management will hopefully bring it back around. The organization needs help only a saint could provide. Summary: The place carries things that are convenient to have locally but their customer service needs work. Plus the Bilt brand is the worst. Friendly staff, but big downside is that they don't stock that much womens gear. (And what they do have doesn't look too good.) Their in-store brand BiLT is iffy at best. I bought a $20 pair of leather BiLT gloves for my motorcycle class, and by the end of the 4 hour field session, the backs of my hands were red and irritated from the inside stitching. Terrible design, I cannot wear those gloves again. Not a bad place, but there are better shops in town for sure. read more

Visited the Austin store this week--I typically avoid Cycle Gear due to their high prices and lousy service, but I was desperate for some maintenance supplies I can't get at an automotive store. I have been to the Austin store a few times now over the years and have noticed an overall decline in the appearance and attitude of the sales associates. No one says "hello" when you walk in and no one asks to help despite it being obvious I was walking around looking for something. Shelves were not stocked neatly, and items on the shelves were intermixed, so you had to carefully look at what you were buying because what you saw on the shelf label did not necessarily correspond to what was actually there. Caps and spray tops were either missing from some of the aerosols or where cracked. I got the impression no one there really cared about the place. Upon checkout, one of the guys working the cashier just stood there behind the counter looking at me (I had my credit card out ready to pay), and only checked me out when another guy working behind the counter told him to check me out. Hey, I get it---these are not professionals and my expectations were probably too high in the first place. Only go here is absolutely necessary and are between a rock and a hard place. read more

Visited the store this morning for the time. The five stars are based on Eric (friendliness and knowledge) and the fact that they had exactly what I came in to buy. Had done a little research online prior. I needed a new summer jacket, a certain Dainese, and some cooling gear. The buyer I am, I tried on and compared with some other jackets, while Eric provide Intel on the pros and cons of each. I also needed new summer gloves and he scored a perfect pair, with a great price too. Did a four hour hill country ride this afternoon and I couldn't be happier with comfort level and look.
